- Chapter 20 - Extreme Tug-of-War (Revised) — Do You Realize What You're...
Right now, he desperately wanted to punch this old fox, but the final decision rested with Fu Qingya. Even as Fu Qingya’s uncle-in-law, he had no right to interfere, so he could only stand there cursing under his breath while gazing at the boy expectantly.
“You old fossil, keep dreaming! No. 2 High isn’t going anywhere, Qingya can come here whenever he likes, he doesn’t have to stay here for good!”
He hadn’t actually planned on having Fu Qingya transfer to No. 2 High. He simply wanted to keep him around for a while to ensure he recovered his health and rested his mind, and, incidentally, to get a front-row seat to the daily life of this monstrous genius.
This old guy was constantly up to no good, copying others by overthinking and making wild guesses. It was exasperating!
Fine, he could guess all he wanted, but he kept interrupting his friendly bonding time with young friend Fu!
The Principal of No. 2 High finally couldn’t help but glare back at the Principal of No. 1 High.
“Stop making a scene, I’m just inviting young friend Fu to stay for a couple extra days! Why are you meddling?”
Then, he turned his attention back to Fu Qingya.
“Young friend Fu, we’ve established a specialized technology interest workshop. The activity room is equipped with professional scientific research equipment. Would you like to head in there and experiment every day? Though the equipment isn’t priceless and the precision could be better, it’s convenient and easy to operate. Are you interested in taking a look?”
Based on the testimonials he’d heard from tech giants, in the eyes of a research-obsessed genius, scientific equipment was a peerless beauty capable of making them lose all track of time.
Fu Qingya’s eyes lit up visibly.
Fu Qingya had first encountered technological research in the third year after the A48 Galaxy invaded Earth. At that time, humanity was surrounded by desolation. All research equipment was retrieved by soldiers who left the underground cities and traded their lives on the surface to bring it back. Back then, if you had something that worked, it was a blessing, you didn’t get to be picky.
Since his rebirth, Fu Qingya hadn’t made any major moves for the sake of his own safety and to keep his secrets. All his research tools were parts he’d scavenged from the market and brought home to assemble himself. Many of them possessed the strange, utilitarian aesthetic characteristic of the Star Era.
Consequently, in the eyes of today’s scientific elites, Fu Qingya was a purely “wild” scientist. All his research and manufacturing bypassed existing scientific protocols, growing rapidly in a raw, untamed fashion.
Neither before nor after his rebirth had Fu Qingya ever received systematic guidance, nor had he used the complete, beautiful, and orderly research equipment that existed before the A48 Galaxy invasion.
Thus, the Principal of No. 2 High’s words struck a chord deep in Fu Qingya’s heart, causing a flicker of genuine interest to appear on his face.
Sensing that Fu Qingya was about to be lured away, the Principal of No. 1 High was puzzled as to how his rival knew the boy liked tech research, especially since Fu Qingya had never shown such a leaning even around him, but he still reflexively raised the stakes.
“I can give you the keys to the science activity room. You can go whenever you want, and you can use the equipment however you like!”
“Well? Am I generous enough? As long as you tell this old fossil right now that you’re a student of No. 1 High, I’ll give you the keys!”
He knows absolutely nothing, yet he dares to be this reckless!
The Principal of No. 2 High was truly fed up with this unreliable firecracker from No. 1 High!
It was obvious Fu Qingya was a research fanatic. Covering the cost of his equipment consumption alone would be enough to bankrupt a person!
He watched the Principal of No. 1 High, who seemed quite smug about his own proposal, and his eyelids twitched violently. He honestly didn’t know how to argue back.
After all, he knew he didn’t have a large enough personal fortune to supply Fu Qingya’s research needs.
He couldn’t find a single word to further increase his offer.
“You, you don’t know anything, so stop meddling! Do you have any idea what you just promised?”
The Principal of No. 2 High choked for a long moment before pointing a finger and questioning the smug Principal of No. 1 High in a low hiss.
The Principal of No. 1 High indeed knew nothing, but he knew perfectly well that if his rival of over a decade was using the expensive activity room as a bargaining chip, there must be a significant benefit involved.
“I don’t know, but the fact that you’re trying to poach a student from our school is absolutely not happening!”
Fu Qingya watched his unreliable uncle-in-law begin to act like a petulant child, his face covered in metaphorical black lines. He gave a faint, imperceptible sigh.
Then, for once, he took the initiative to step toward the overexcited Principal of No. 1 High. “Alright, I’m not leaving. Stop talking.”
The Principal of No. 2 High let out a sigh of deep disappointment. He had finally found a chance to get close to Fu Qingya, only for it to be ruined by this guy who insisted on interfering in everything.
He lowered his gaze, looking utterly dejected.
But at that moment, Fu Qingya pulled the Principal in the floral shirt behind him and turned to look seriously at the very perceptive Principal of No. 2 High.
“Principal, I’ll be in your care for the next few days, then.”
