- Chapter 18 - Are You Sure You Want to... [Revised] — Back to School After Recovery
Fu Qingya looked at Director Luo, remaining silent.
Under his gaze, Director Luo felt the temperature in the boy’s eyes drop sharply. His heart skipped a beat, yet he maintained his composure and continued.
“In exchange for this intrusion into your privacy, I will transfer ownership of a custom parts factory to you. This includes the original master craftsmen and the entire transportation and logistics line. Whenever you need something, a single word to the dedicated manager will get you basic or even highly specialized parts custom-made and delivered to you, wherever you are.”
Having long been accustomed to being protected, Fu Qingya was somewhat surprised that Director Luo’s private deal involved such matters. He couldn’t help but look down at the open contract beside him.
This resource was incredibly tempting.
Fu Qingya possessed extraordinary talent for mechanical research and hands-on construction. He could dismantle any machine he encountered, including the mechanical lifeforms of the A48 Galaxy, and his hands could create countless high-difficulty technological marvels.
He didn’t lack advanced technology, what he lacked were special materials, energy sources, and a steady supply of basic components. This factory, capable of mass-producing parts, would solve the third problem that had been plaguing him for a long time.
As for the first two, they couldn’t be found on Earth. He had to rely on scavenging materials and energy from A48 mechanical bodies.
Of course, Fu Qingya hadn’t forgotten the research into emerging energy sources that he had been working on for decades. He aimed to give Earth independent energy soon, something not restricted by the A48 Galaxy that could support the operation of era-defining technology.
“Are you sure you want to trade something so valuable for just two promises from me?”
Fu Qingya closed the contract and looked at Director Luo. Trading an expensive factory for two optional promises, was the man sure he was in his right mind?
Director Luo noticed that when the parts production line was mentioned, the boy’s eyes seemed to light up. His heart settled slightly, though his face remained solemn.
“I’m sure. Once you sign the contract, the factory and the personnel will be handed over to you immediately.”
Fu Qingya gave him an unreadable look before picking up a pen and signing the documents.
“Then, it’s a pleasure doing business with you.”
Fu Qingya tucked away his copy of the files. “Anything else? If not, I have another ‘Hidden Mine’ to dismantle.”
Of the two mines, Fu Qingya had only taken apart one. He planned to finish the other before going home to upgrade his personal equipment.
The traces left by the A48 Galaxy’s vanguard were becoming more frequent, and Fu Qingya had to constantly strengthen himself.
Luo Mingyuan massaged his forehead in exasperation. This guy had just received such a massive windfall, and he didn’t even know how to engage in polite small talk. He was in such a hurry to leave already.
He wanted to remind Fu Qingya of his manners, but he saw that both his old-fashioned father and the Sovereign shared a look of approval.
Fine, whatever. Since the main parties didn’t mind, he wouldn’t interfere. Besides, he wasn’t a fan of meaningless social pleasantries himself.
“There’s nothing else. Go if you want. Just remember to notify me before you leave, I’ll have someone escort you back.”
Director Luo nodded. Through several conversations, he had come to understand Fu Qingya’s single-minded obsession with his work. If he were refused, the boy’s mood would visibly sour.
Fu Qingya was now a living treasure that the country had bet heavily on. To keep him in peak condition, Director Luo didn’t mind granting him special privileges within reason.
The elegant Sovereign was even less concerned with social etiquette. He knew better than most that geniuses blessed by heaven often had their own sets of principles and quirks.
Being blunt or disliking unnecessary socializing was no big deal to him. As long as Fu Qingya’s friendly attitude toward Country A remained unchanged, the Sovereign would always tolerate his aloofness and whims.
Forget simple pleasantries, as long as what Fu Qingya did benefit the country, the Sovereign would even be willing to follow his lead or act as his assistant.
The high-ranking officials of Country A all knew that Sovereign Huo Zhimin was a man who could set aside his ego. He had no air of self-importance outside of state affairs. In his presence, one could always feel his deep, selfless love for the country and his sincere devotion to its protection.
“Let Qingya do whatever he wishes,” Huo Zhimin said with a chuckle, his expression free of any dissatisfaction or suspicion.
Knowing exactly what kind of man Huo Zhimin was, Fu Qingya didn’t bother with further politeness. He turned and headed back to the inner room to continue dismantling the mine.
This kid really is a fearless newborn calf!
To make requests so freely in front of the Sovereign, and to act as if it were only natural—as if he expected every demand to be met with unconditional support and compliance.
His attitude toward the Sovereign was incredibly casual, as if the person listening to him wasn’t the famous leader of a nation, but rather a doting elder who would give him anything he wanted.
Luo Mingyuan was secretly impressed. He gave a slight nod to his father and the Sovereign before turning to follow the boy.
Half an hour later, a well-trained special police unit followed Fu Qingya and quietly stationed themselves outside his villa.
Accustomed to such things, Fu Qingya gave a slight nod to the police captain watching from a distance and dived straight into his basement. With a smart robot handling his food and needs, he didn’t step foot outside for several days.
If he hadn’t received a hesitant, formal call from the principal of No. 2 High School reminding him to attend class, Fu Qingya might have stayed in that basement until the end of time.
The next morning, a drowsy Fu Qingya, his eyelids drooping, walked out of the villa under the curious gazes of the police unit. He headed straight for No. 2 High School with clear intent.
Unlike the other exchange students who returned to class right after the welcome party, Fu Qingya had taken a leave of absence due to “illness.” Consequently, the students who were already intensely curious about him hadn’t seen him for a long time.
The students of Class 1, Grade 12, had originally planned to visit him. However, the principal, the head teacher, and the student union all advised against disturbing his rest, so they had to give up.
Today, hearing that Fu Qingya had recovered and was returning to school, they all sat in their seats, peering around for any sign of him.
About three minutes before class started, a youth with lowered eyes and a hazy, sleepy expression walked in and sat accurately in his seat.
As soon as Fu Qingya sat down, he slumped onto his desk, looking utterly exhausted.
