The Fox Spirit Survived as an Alpha by Consuming Pheromones - Chapter 9
Under the influence of the external environment, Bai Muqin’s glands throbbed restlessly, and her pheromones began to leak out uncontrollably.
From the chaotic blend of scents in the air, Jiang Li specifically picked out Bai Muqin’s fragrance. Though breathing it in was difficult amidst the mess, she managed to get a “half-full” meal. In her private thoughts, she believed her Master’s scent belonged to her alone; no one else was worthy of smelling something so wonderful.
At Bai Muqin’s request, Jiang Li summoned her strength and shoved two of the half-naked men aside. Shielding Bai Muqin, she reached the dressing room door. Finding it locked, she pounded on it and shouted, “Open up!”
Inside, Li Lan realized this was her chance to turn things around and rushed to the door without hesitation.
The door cracked open just enough for them to slip inside. From the crowd, Bai Muqin called out, “Qin Nian!”
“Get inside!” Qin Nian yelled through the commotion. “The guards will be here any second. I’ll handle things out here.”
Bai Muqin pressed her hand over her mask, taking deep breaths only once she was safe inside the room. Perhaps because Jiang Li was beside her, the agitation of her heat eased slightly, but it was far from enough. She had no energy to care that there were others in the room; she leaned limply into Jiang Li’s embrace, her expression lazy and seductive. Her cheeks were flushed crimson, and her watery eyes held a hazy shimmer, like mellow wine that could intoxicate anyone who looked.
“A-Li, hurry…” she rasped, her voice thick with suppressed desire.
Jiang Li trembled. She felt something deep inside her ready to break through the soil. She wanted so desperately to touch her lips to her Master, to drink in that delicious essence and satisfy both body and soul. But without permission, she could only restrain her hunger. She leaned into the crook of Bai Muqin’s neck, greedily savoring the exquisite scent.
Bai Muqin bit her lip, trying her best to remain silent. But Jiang Li’s nose brushed against her gland intermittently a cool, tingling sensation that made her shiver uncontrollably.
Jiang Li noticed it. Every time her nose grazed that spot, her Master would shudder, and the pheromones would release even more freely. Wanting to feast as much as possible, Jiang Li mischievously increased the frequency of her touches…
Li Lan signaled her assistant, who immediately understood. The assistant pulled out her phone and began secretly recording. Even though the two women were fully clothed and weren’t making any large movements simply holding each other and occasionally rubbing together the scene was incredibly erotic. Even as a Beta, the assistant found it hard to look away.
The passion fruit scent eventually drifted through the room. Li Lan covered her nose, fearing the Alpha pheromones from outside, but she still caught a whiff of the internal scent. She assumed Bai Muqin was being marked by the beautiful “Alpha” before her, yet the concentration of Alpha pheromones in the air didn’t rise; only the Omega scent fluctuated.
Just as Li Lan was pondering this, Bai Muqin gently pushed Jiang Li away. Her cool face was now as calm as a still lake, as if nothing had happened. She turned to the full-length mirror to straighten the clothes Jiang Li had ruffled.
Jiang Li knew the heat had subsided. Being pushed away left her feeling a bit dejected. She was about to call out “Master,” but seeing the others present, she corrected herself to “Miss Bai.” She asked urgently, “Are you still uncomfortable?”
Tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear, Bai Muqin gave a faint smile. “I’m fine now.” She turned to Li Lan. “I hope Miss Li will act as though she saw nothing of what just happened.” Her tone was soft, but carried a weight that invited no refusal.
Li Lan took the hint immediately. “Of course.” Seeing Bai Muqin staring at her with a knowing, half-smile, Li Lan felt her skin crawl. She barked at her assistant, “Give it here.” She took the phone, found the recorded video, and deleted it.
Only then did Bai Muqin look away. “I know what you’re afraid of, Miss Li. I’m not so foolish that I can’t see someone else set this trap. You’re a smart woman I understood that the moment you opened the door. So, as long as no one else finds out about what happened here, you have nothing to worry about. I will find out who is behind this.”
Li Lan breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you for your understanding, President Bai.” She asked tentatively, “And our collaboration?”
Bai Muqin smiled thinly, feigning confusion. “Do we have a collaboration?”
Li Lan froze. It seemed there was no room for negotiation. She couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret for her earlier “diva” behavior. She laughed awkwardly. “Then perhaps another time.”
Soon, a familiar knock sounded at the door. Recognizing Qin Nian’s rhythm, Bai Muqin signaled Jiang Li to open it.
“Sister, are you guys okay?” Qin Nian asked, her voice full of worry. She looked back and forth between the two of them twice before sighing in relief. “Good, you’re safe.”
Bai Muqin walked over to Qin Nian and brushed a piece of confetti off her shoulder. “Don’t be so reckless next time,” she said, pursing her lips. “Don’t forget you’re an Omega too; you’re susceptible to those pheromones.”
Qin Nian grinned. “I wasn’t being reckless, don’t worry.” She patted her bag. “You know what I carry with me every day. It finally came in handy today.”
A small smile played on Bai Muqin’s lips. She nodded. “I’ll credit you for today.”
Beside them, Jiang Li tugged on Bai Muqin’s sleeve, her bright eyes shimmering with anticipation. “Mas, Miss Bai, what about me?” she asked excitedly.
Looking into those pure, innocent eyes, Bai Muqin finally broke. For the first time in front of her staff, she showed a doting side. She rubbed the top of Jiang Li’s head and praised her, “You did very well. I’ll credit you, too.”
Jiang Li squinted happily. She began calculating what “crediting her” meant. Did it mean another feast? Or perhaps finally being allowed to use her mouth to drink that sweet, heavenly nectar?
The entire studio was sprayed with pheromone neutralizers. The acrid smell wasn’t pleasant, but it cleared everyone’s heads. To prevent a repeat, Bai Muqin ordered neutralizers to be installed in all key areas of the company.
The half-naked men were given suppressants and patches as a double precaution. They kept insisting they had simply come to the wrong place that they were hired to perform at a party and release pheromones to liven things up.
The intercepted reporters claimed they had received a tip that Li Lan was hosting an orgy. Though the tip seemed wild, they had come just in case. They hadn’t even caught a glimpse of Li Lan, but they had certainly seen the eldest daughter of the Bai family.
Qin Nian confiscated the camera cards and ran a background check. It appeared someone was maliciously targeting Li Lan, but the culprit had kept their hands clean, leaving no trail.
“Sister, it looks like this wasn’t aimed at you,” Qin Nian said, glancing at Li Lan in the distance. She sighed; she had hoped this collaboration would bring her closer to her idol, only for it to end like this. She asked Li Lan, “Have you offended anyone lately? Someone really went all out to ruin you.”
Li Lan thought for a moment, nodding then shaking her head. “I have too many rivals. I might have offended someone without even knowing it.”
Bai Muqin looked at Li Lan thoughtfully. “The timing is far too convenient, don’t you think, Miss Li?”
Li Lan opened her mouth but found no words. She sensed a deeper meaning in Bai Muqin’s words but couldn’t quite grasp it.
Bai Muqin continued: “The incident has already happened, and innocent people were caught in the crossfire. Even if you are blameless, you cannot be exempt. Effective immediately, the Qinbai Group will cease all future collaborations with you.”
“Don’t worry,” she added. “The Bai family won’t overextend our reach; we won’t interfere with your other contracts.”
Li Lan bit her lip and whispered a reluctant “Thank you” before leaving with her assistant.
Once they were far away, the assistant grumbled indignantly, “That President Bai is so unreasonable! You were a victim too, how can she blame you? She said not to worry, then went back on her word. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have deleted that video!”
Li Lan hummed dismissively. She knew the chance of working with the Bais was now non-existent, but she saw Bai Muqin’s move for what it was: a strategic mask. By letting Li Lan take the fall publicly, the mastermind would let their guard down, making them more likely to slip up.
After the farce ended, Bai Muqin called a meeting to discuss a new spokesperson. Worried that her sister might experience another spike in heat, Qin Nian had Jiang Li wear her mask and sit beside Bai Muqin, effectively taking the assistant’s seat.
The sudden arrival of a mysterious, beautiful stranger at the President’s side one whom neither the President nor Assistant Qin introduced sent the gossip mill into overdrive. The beauty’s eyes never left the President, her gaze full of deep affection. The staff couldn’t help but wonder: Has our long-single President finally found love? Some whispered about a rumored Alpha fiancé could this be her?
Bai Muqin, oblivious to the gossip, worked with her usual efficiency. She selected several candidates and had the promotion department contact them, but unfortunately, none of them were available.
“President Bai, something’s wrong,” the promotion manager speculated. “Being our spokesperson used to be a coveted spot. Why is everyone making excuses now? Are they worried about the incident earlier?”
Bai Muqin rubbed her temples. If that were the case, finding a replacement would be difficult. She caught Jiang Li staring at her and mouthed: Stop looking at me.
Jiang Li pouted. If she couldn’t look at her Master, she didn’t know what to look at. Following the principle of “if someone looks at you, stare back,” she began making eye contact with everyone in the meeting.
The staff felt their hearts skip beats under her gaze. Jiang Li’s natural “fox eyes” made every glance feel loaded with unspoken meaning. It made people feel itchy inside—and a little unnerved.
Noticing the shift in the room, Bai Muqin looked at Jiang Li again. Good grief, she’s practically electrocuting everyone!
The product manager, meeting Jiang Li’s eyes, mistakenly thought she was angling for the job. Seeing that her gaze held both a seductive charm and a youthful purity perfect for the product’s image and knowing she was close to the President, the manager decided to take a chance.
“President Bai, since those celebrities are unwilling, why don’t we try something different? I think the lady beside you would be a perfect fit.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, the room erupted in agreement. Everyone suddenly “realized” so that’s what those looks were for! They’d been overthinking it!
