The Five Heartless Scumbag Alphas Turned Against Each Other Because Of Me - Chapter 96
Tan Hua felt that saying “two or three” couldn’t possibly cover everything, but giving that kind of answer to Sheng Yiheng clearly wouldn’t do either. So, she gave a sheepish smile and said, “I was just joking.”
As she spoke, she made a show of getting up, attempting to change the subject. “I need to go check on how my friend is doing.”
Mu Wanyi still hadn’t returned, and with her surgery scheduled soon, as her best friend, Tan Hua of course had to wait outside the operating room.
Otherwise, if Wanyi was wheeled out to find no one by her side—no one to care for her—how disheartened would she feel?
Tan Hua was firm in her attitude. Although Sheng Yiheng knew she was trying to avoid the earlier topic, he still gave in willingly and followed her lead without resistance.
He even reached out to help her off the bed and offered, “I’ll go with you.”
Tan Hua thought about it. It wasn’t a bad idea—another person meant another pair of hands. Worth it. After some consideration, she looked over at Zheng Jinyu and asked, “President Zheng, would you like to come with us too?” She paused, then asked hesitantly, “Are you still busy with work today? Would asking you to come along delay anything important?”
Zheng Jinyu snapped out of her daze at those words. Her mood and mental state were far from good, and after a brief moment of consideration, she gently declined Tan Hua’s offer. “I still have some unfinished business to take care of, so I’m afraid I can’t join you.”
Sheng Yiheng’s heart lifted with joy, thinking he’d just secured a rare opportunity to be alone with Tan Hua. But in the next second, he heard Zheng Jinyu add, “So I’ll just wait here for you both.”
Tan Hua had no objections. “Alright, then. You go ahead with your work—we won’t disturb you.”
With that, she pulled Sheng Yiheng along as they hurried to the operating room where Mu Wanyi’s surgery was about to begin. One taller and one shorter, the two figures moved quickly down the hallway. Lu Huaixu paused his steps slightly, squinting for a moment as he watched them before finally looking away.
He glanced in the direction Tan Hua had rushed toward, then turned his gaze back toward her original hospital room. A second later, he pivoted and walked directly into the room.
Zheng Jinyu was zoning out again. Her mind was a mess, her thoughts scattered, her spirit defeated. She couldn’t concentrate at all.
Today, both Cheng Yuan and Tan Hua had delivered a heavy emotional blow to her. The new truths she had learned brought immense pain. At this moment, she genuinely didn’t know what the right thing to do was—how she could ever make amends to the two Omegas whose hearts she had broken.
Zheng Jinyu was at a complete loss, and that only made her start doubting herself uncontrollably.
Was she really as capable as she believed? Everything she had done—everything she had pursued—had it really been the right path? If so, how could she have made such an irreversible mistake without even realizing it?
She raised her head unconsciously, then clutched her head in frustration and pain. Her chaotic thoughts overwhelmed her entire mind in that instant.
It wasn’t until Lu Huaixu’s familiar voice rang out above her, “What are you thinking about?”
Zheng Jinyu looked up instinctively, her eyes meeting Lu Huaixu’s with a gaze full of confusion and self-doubt.
Seeing her friend’s unusual state, Lu Huaixu walked over and sat down in the single armchair across from her. He slowly lifted his right leg and crossed it over his left. “Want to talk?”
Zheng Jinyu hesitated only for a moment before speaking. “I really never meant for things to turn out this way.”
She desperately needed someone to talk to, and Lu Huaixu was, in her heart, someone whose character and integrity she completely trusted. Now that he had taken the initiative to ask, she found herself unable to turn him away.
“But I did. I ended up hurting both Cheng Yuan and Tan Hua without meaning to.”
If she could go back to six months ago… no, even further back—she would never have been so fickle, so reckless, never would’ve confessed her feelings so thoughtlessly to two different Omegas.
Some emotions don’t need to be spoken out loud. Because once that thin veil is pierced, there’s no going back to how things were. Everything would shift—become awkward and off-balance.
Regret, remorse, and a tangle of negative emotions churned in Zheng Jinyu’s heart, leaving her eyes slightly misty.
After quietly listening to everything she had said, Lu Huaixu remained silent for a few moments. Then, in a calm voice, she asked, “So tell me—who do you care about more now, Cheng Yuan or Tan Hua?”
“I don’t know anymore.” Zheng Jinyu looked at Lu Huaixu with confusion in her eyes. “I really don’t know.”
She had genuinely fallen for Cheng Yuan, and at the same time, had truly come to love Tan Hua. But if she had truly loved Cheng Yuan, then how could she have ended up falling for Tan Hua during the time they were apart?
Zheng Jinyu felt like a fickle, heartless woman—so indecisive and weak that even she herself was disgusted by it.
As expected, her answer didn’t come as a surprise. Seeing her like this, Lu Huaixu didn’t continue trying to console her. Instead, she asked directly, “Wanna go get a drink?”
Zheng Jinyu blinked. “Right now?”
“Yeah,” Lu Huaixu said, locking eyes with Zheng Jinyu’s surprised and hesitant gaze. “Right now. You heard me.”
Rather than wasting breath offering comforting words, Lu Huaixu figured what Zheng Jinyu really needed was a release. Getting thoroughly drunk—blissfully unconscious—was more effective than any kind of soul-searching pep talk.
Still, looking at Zheng Jinyu now, she couldn’t help but admire Cheng Yuan and Tan Hua. They must have serious firepower to push someone as gentle and steady as Zheng Jinyu to this point.
Zheng Jinyu hesitated for only a moment before agreeing.
Drinking couldn’t fix the problem, sure—but it could help her feel just a little bit better. And at this point, that alone was enough for her.
Lu Huaixu was never one to waste time. She got up immediately and drove Zheng Jinyu to a nearby bar.
Before Lu Huaixu could even speak, Zheng Jinyu had already grabbed a bottle of liquor and tilted her graceful neck back, pouring it down like she didn’t care if it killed her.
The music playing in the bar was soft and mellow. Zheng Jinyu took out a small box of ladies’ cigarettes from her bag. “Back when she was around, I didn’t dare smoke. I was afraid she’d be disgusted.”
“And now that she’s pregnant, I obviously wouldn’t smoke anywhere near her,” Zheng Jinyu added with a bitter smile. “But luckily, it’s just the two of us now.”
She held the box out to Lu Huaixu, a silent question in her eyes—Want one?
Lu Huaixu looked down at it for a couple of seconds, then finally reached out and pulled one out. Zheng Jinyu chuckled at the sight. “I remember you didn’t touch this stuff before.”
As she spoke, she took a cigarette for herself too, holding it lightly between her slender fingers. Calmly, she lit it.
The cigarette flared red, like a bloodstained star. In the dim light, it looked especially dangerous.
“There are always moments when life just feels off,” Lu Huaixu said, taking the lighter from Zheng Jinyu and lighting her own cigarette with the same calm grace. Her elegant demeanor, shaped by years of refinement, made even this mundane action look like something out of a movie.
Zheng Jinyu just smiled in response, her thoughts and gaze drifting away again.
Yeah. Everyone has those off days.
Suddenly, she snapped out of it. “Wait, you…?”
Lu Huaixu didn’t answer. Instead, she raised the bottle in her hand toward Zheng Jinyu. “Cheers.”
Zheng Jinyu stared at her longtime friend for a long moment before suddenly letting out a soft laugh. But the smile on her face was full of bitterness.
“Alright.”
After finishing the bottle, Zheng Jinyu slowly turned her head to look out the window. She could feel a bit of a buzz settling in—maybe she was already a little drunk.
That didn’t make sense. She usually handled alcohol well.
Mu Wanyi’s surgery was a success.
After two hours of waiting, she was finally wheeled out of the operating room. However, the anesthesia hadn’t worn off completely yet, so she was still unconscious and deeply asleep.
Tan Hua followed her all the way back to the hospital room. Once there, she arranged for a personal caregiver to look after Wanyi, then transferred a large sum of money to her through her phone.
Mu Wanyi had finalized her divorce from Du Yunshuo. She walked away with nothing—no property, no money, not even personal assets.
At this point, she had no home, no spending money, and was essentially starting from scratch. She was broke. On top of that, her birth family wasn’t much better than Tan Hua’s original one. It certainly wasn’t a safe place for her to fall back on.
In fact, there was a good chance her parents would turn against her entirely. They might blame her for throwing away a life of wealth and privilege just to divorce her husband over something they’d call “emotional nonsense.” They could easily cut ties and disown her altogether.
Tan Hua understood all too well how cruel people like that could be. And since it was at her own urging that Mu Wanyi had made the decision to leave, she felt it was her responsibility to support her now.
She knew Wanyi had always lived comfortably, so she decided to transfer ten million yuan to her in one go.
As long as she stayed grounded—kept away from gambling, drugs, or sketchy business ideas—that money would be enough to support her for quite a while. As for where she’d live… Tan Hua thought maybe she could arrange a room next to her own place.
It was cheap—well, that wasn’t the point—it was close. That way they could stay connected and keep their bond strong.
But if Mu Wanyi really couldn’t stay idle and insisted on starting a business, then Tan Hua could consider helping out with another ten or twenty million. Any more than that though… She suddenly cast a suspicious sideways glance at Sheng Yiheng.
Sheng Yiheng immediately noticed and raised her guard.
“What are you plotting now?”
The Alpha frowned, clearly alert and on edge.
Tan Hua was caught off guard for a moment, then quickly tried to shift the narrative.
“Do I really seem that sneaky and untrustworthy to you?”
Before she could even finish, Sheng Yiheng nodded without hesitation.
“Yes. You do.”
She had lived long enough to know—she had never met anyone like Tan Hua. This woman had more tricks up her sleeve than Sheng Yiheng had eaten meals in her lifetime. If she didn’t stay alert, she figured Tan Hua would probably scam her out of everything, including her underwear.
“Go on. What do you want?”
Sheng Yiheng wasn’t buying the sudden friendliness. She knew there had to be something behind it.
Since Sheng Yiheng had already seen through her, Tan Hua didn’t bother hiding it anymore.
“Do you think my friend has any talent for business?”
“She does.” Sheng Yiheng didn’t even have to think. She answered directly.
“A lot of it.”
Tan Hua immediately perked up and sat up straighter, clearly interested.
“Oh? Why do you say that?”
“She’s ruthless,” Sheng Yiheng said seriously.
“She’s so determined, she was willing to have her own gland removed. Do you know what that means? Without her gland, she’s no longer a fully functioning Omega. That kind of decision limits her in a lot of ways—for life.”
“Most Omegas would never even consider something like that. They’re terrified of pain.”
“And she’s your friend,” Sheng Yiheng added, matter-of-factly.
“You know what they say— ‘You are who you spend time with.’ Since you’re already this kind of person, I doubt she’s much different.”
Tan Hua: “…”
Well, that just killed the conversation.
Still, she had to admit she agreed with the first part of Sheng Yiheng’s comment about Mu Wanyi. Ruthless people might not always succeed, but they rarely end up completely defeated either.
Plus, after everything Mu Wanyi had just gone through, Tan Hua believed she would now face future challenges with more calmness and clarity. She wouldn’t easily become one of those naïve, love-blinded girls who were too easy to manipulate.
Tan Hua felt a bit more at ease.
She glanced at the time—it was getting late. So she turned to Sheng Yiheng and asked,
“Do you want to go back and rest for now?”
“I’m staying here for the night,” she replied.
Sheng Yiheng refused without hesitation.
“No need. I’ll stay with you.”
Old Tang’s birthday banquet wouldn’t end until tomorrow night, and there was still plenty of time left during the day. Staying here with Tan Hua for now didn’t seem like a big deal.
“…Alright then,” Tan Hua agreed.
She wasn’t about to argue. Mu Wanyi could wake up at any time, and if she had to sit here alone in the middle of the night, her mind would start conjuring all kinds of creepy ghost stories.
Alphas were said to have strong “yang energy,” and Tan Hua couldn’t help but sneak a few glances at Sheng Yiheng. She figured that presence alone would be enough to ward off any ghosts.
Sheng Yiheng was already used to the strange little looks Tan Hua gave her, so she didn’t bother asking anymore. Instead, she looked around the room and only then realized two people were missing.
“Where’s Zheng Jinyu and Lu Huaixu?” she asked, frowning.
Surely they weren’t off secretly forming some “Pursuers’ Alliance” behind her back, were they? The more she thought about it, the more restless she felt.
As soon as she asked, Tan Hua also came to the same realization.
“Oh right—where did they go?”
The two locked eyes. Tan Hua immediately pulled out her phone and dialed Zheng Jinyu’s number.
No answer.
With a sigh, she switched to calling Lu Huaixu instead.
The phone rang a few times before someone finally picked up.
“What’s up?” came the reply, the woman’s voice thick with alcohol.
“Where are you right now?” Tan Hua asked, hearing the heavy drunken slur in her tone. She instinctively pressed her lips together.
“Is Zheng Jinyu with you?”
“She is,” Lu Huaixu answered lazily.
“We’re drinking.”
“Drinking?” Tan Hua couldn’t help raising her voice. Her brows furrowed tightly.
“Send me your location—right now. I’m coming to get you both.”
Lu Huaixu didn’t argue. She simply gave a slow, almost lazy “mm,” thick with intoxication, and then hung up.
A second later, Tan Hua’s phone lit up. It was the location pin from Lu Huaixu, marking the bar they were at. She opened it, glanced at the address, and immediately stood up.
“They’re at a bar. I’m going over there.”
Sheng Yiheng stood up too.
“I’m coming with you.”
“No, you should stay here with Mu Wanyi—”
“You think you, with your pregnant body, can carry two drunk adult women all by yourself?” Sheng Yiheng cut her off flatly.
Tan Hua went silent for a second.
“…Fine, you’re coming with me.”
She hesitated again, glancing toward the hospital bed.
“But what about Mu Wanyi?”
“I’ll have the hospital staff keep an eye on her,” Sheng Yiheng replied calmly, meeting her eyes.
“If you’re really that worried, I’ll have one of my family’s caretakers come over right away to look after her.”
Tan Hua nodded.
“Thanks. I appreciate it.”
Once they had Mu Wanyi’s care arranged, the two of them rushed out and drove to the bar. Luckily, it wasn’t far—it only took about ten minutes.
Tan Hua walked ahead while Sheng Yiheng followed close behind. As soon as they stepped through the doors, both of them immediately scanned the room.
It took less than five seconds for Tan Hua to spot the Alpha slouched in the corner. From the entrance, she could see the low table in front of them—completely covered in empty bottles that glinted under the dim lighting like glass shards.
Tan Hua gritted her teeth and stormed over, her steps quick and furious.
Lu Huaixu looked up lazily when she sensed the Omega approaching. Her expression and tone were both indifferent.
“You’re here. That was fast.”
Fast? Tan Hua was already feeling queasy from the overwhelming mix of alcohol and cigarette smoke hanging in the air. She instinctively pinched her nose.
She glanced down at Zheng Jinyu, who was completely passed out on the couch, and turned toward the only one still conscious.
“How much did you two drink?”
Zheng Jinyu could usually hold her liquor. For her to be out cold like this meant things had gotten out of hand.
“Not that much,” Lu Huaixu replied casually, leaning over to stub out the cigarette between her fingers.
Not that much? Tan Hua’s expression darkened as she looked again at the sheer number of bottles on the table. She immediately flagged down a staff member.
“Check, please.”
But Lu Huaixu glanced up lazily.
“No need.”
“This place belongs to me.”
Tan Hua: “…”
She had nothing to say to that. Turning her attention back to Zheng Jinyu, she reached out and tried to pull her up—no luck. She couldn’t budge her at all.
She looked back over her shoulder at Sheng Yiheng.
“Give me a hand.”
Just as Sheng Yiheng was about to step in, Zheng Jinyu suddenly opened her bleary eyes.
She stared at Tan Hua for a long moment, as if trying to be sure she wasn’t hallucinating. Then, without warning, she yanked Tan Hua into her arms with startling strength.
“Hua Hua… is that you?”
Sheng Yiheng’s temple throbbed with rage.
“She’s not Hua Hua! She’s my Omega. Your sister-in-law!”
Tan Hua: “…?”
Furious, Sheng Yiheng reached forward to pull them apart—but Zheng Jinyu clung to Tan Hua with a death grip. She wouldn’t let go. In fact, her arms only tightened, holding the Omega even closer, until her nose was completely buried in Tan Hua’s scent.
Zheng Jinyu felt completely, undeniably sober in that moment.
She knew exactly who was in her arms. She knew exactly what she was doing. And somehow, she had never felt more clear-headed.
She felt so wronged. The ache in her heart was unbearable, and she couldn’t stop herself from wanting to pour everything out to Tan Hua.
But when she opened her mouth, the words that came out weren’t what she had planned. They came out on their own—clear, desperate, and painfully vulnerable:
“Hua Hua… can we start over?”
“…Please.”
Tan Hua (in her head): Excuse me? Hello? Am I invisible here?
