The Five Heartless Scumbag Alphas Turned Against Each Other Because Of Me - Chapter 87
“Because I figured you’d be relatively free,” Tan Hua said calmly, without the slightest hint of guilt. “Miss Tang has been so busy these past few days…”
“So in your eyes, I’m not busy at all?” Sheng Yiheng’s eyelid twitched violently. She couldn’t help but raise her hand, pointing incredulously at herself. “Do I look like some idle loafer wandering around aimlessly?”
Tang Yanrou nearly laughed at the sight, but when she saw Sheng Yiheng’s bewildered and slightly wounded expression, she managed to hold it in.
In that moment, she stopped wondering why Tan Hua hadn’t messaged her. Instead, she found herself quietly enjoying Sheng Yiheng’s dramatics, even feeling a hint of sweetness well up inside.
Hua Hua really was thinking of her. She cared.
“I didn’t say that,” Tan Hua muttered, then abruptly turned the tables. “But you haven’t seen me in so long. Didn’t you want to look for me? I’ve been gone right under your nose for quite a while—didn’t you worry about my safety? Didn’t you think to call or message me to ask where I was?”
“I did, but—” Sheng Yiheng started to explain, only to be cut off by Tan Hua.
“Exactly,” she declared.
“If I only messaged you, wasn’t that exactly what you wanted?”
A win-win situation—yet here she was, being accused for no reason. That’s the unspoken message Sheng Yiheng read clearly in Tan Hua’s eyes.
She gritted her teeth, her face twitching from frustration. “Fine. Fine.”
No point arguing—she couldn’t match Tan Hua’s quick wit and sharp tongue. And considering Tan Hua was newly pregnant, Sheng Yiheng decided to let it go. Let it go, she silently reminded herself.
“In that case, now that I’ve found you, you’re coming with me.” Sheng Yiheng stepped forward, firmly grabbing Tan Hua by the wrist, ready to pull her away from Tang Yanrou.
Tang Yanrou instinctively reached out to stop her, but before she could touch her, Tan Hua turned back and asked, “Miss Tang, are you busy? Want to come with us?”
Sheng Yiheng turned her head, visibly annoyed. “Why would she come with us?”
“So are we about to…” Tan Hua hesitated for a moment, then asked with a teasing lilt in her voice, “…do something we can’t let others see?”
Sheng Yiheng stopped in her tracks, face expressionless, and spoke in a low voice. “What do you think?”
“I think we are,” Tan Hua replied without missing a beat—and just as quickly received a frosty glare from Sheng Yiheng.
Tang Yanrou, still unclear about Sheng Yiheng’s intentions, couldn’t help but worry after hearing Tan Hua’s remark. “I’m not busy. I’ll come with you.”
Mainly, she simply didn’t feel comfortable letting Tan Hua go alone with Sheng Yiheng.
Seeing that there was no getting rid of Tang Yanrou, Sheng Yiheng could only swallow her frustration and dragged Tan Hua back to her own room.
“Stay here and don’t go wandering off,” Sheng Yiheng ordered as she shut the door behind them.
“Understood?” Her tone was stern, her expression serious.
Tan Hua hesitated. “Did something serious happen outside?”
“No,” Sheng Yiheng answered without a moment’s thought. “I’m just afraid you’ll overdo it and end up having a miscarriage.” She lowered her eyes with a half-smile. “What else do you think it could be?”
Tan Hua immediately went quiet and obediently sat down. “Fine.”
She really did have trouble controlling herself sometimes.
Hearing that, Tang Yanrou gave Sheng Yiheng a second glance. She hadn’t expected her to actually show some conscience—thinking about the Omega’s well-being.
After a moment’s thought, Tang Yanrou said, “I’ll have someone send over a game console or two to help pass the time.”
“When it’s close to dinner, we’ll come get you. Or we can have someone bring the food up.”
“No, no,” Tan Hua quickly interjected upon hearing the latter part. “You two can come get me for dinner. If not, I’ll just go down myself—”
“No,” Sheng Yiheng and Tang Yanrou cut her off in unison before she could even close her mouth.
“You absolutely cannot leave this room without permission.”
Tan Hua: “?”
How is this any different from house arrest?
She tried to reason with them. After haggling with the two Alphas for quite some time, they finally reached a compromise: Tan Hua wasn’t allowed to leave the room, but she could invite people over to keep her company.
Tan Hua immediately smiled sweetly, looking the picture of obedience. “Okay.”
Tang Yanrou had a feeling something was off with Tan Hua’s expression. Sheng Yiheng, however, cut straight through the act. “You’re not allowed to call more than four people over at a time.”
“…”
Tan Hua’s patience snapped in an instant. She stood up and directly shoved Sheng Yiheng out of the room.
Tang Yanrou didn’t know what to do for a moment. In the end, seeing how furious the Omega seemed, she offered a few words of comfort and slowly stepped out as well, giving Tan Hua the space to cool off.
At the door, Sheng Yiheng and Tang Yanrou met eyes briefly before turning and walking off in different directions.
Tan Hua slumped onto the sofa, a headache forming. She idly scrolled through her phone for half an hour, quickly growing bored, then called Ning Xi.
“Hey, where are you right now? Come hang out in my room.”
Ning Xi had just gotten out of a car and bumped into Cheng Yuan. As soon as she heard Tan Hua’s request, she felt a jolt of panic and hurriedly refused.
“No way.”
“Why not?” Tan Hua didn’t understand. Then, picking up on the panic in her voice, she frowned and asked, “Did Guo Lanyi get to you again?”
“No,” Ning Xi lowered her voice, first glancing apologetically at Cheng Yuan, then stepped aside and whispered, “I’m at the airport. Yuan Yuan just landed.”
Tan Hua fell silent.
Right. The female lead was returning today. How had she forgotten something so important?
“So are you two heading home, or coming here first?” Tan Hua grinned, trying to sound as friendly and harmless as possible. “Why don’t you bring Yuan Yuan over to hang out?”
Ning Xi always wanted to roll her eyes whenever Tan Hua casually referred to Cheng Yuan as “Yuan Yuan.” But this time, she restrained herself and coldly refused.
“No. I’m taking her home first.”
“She’s been traveling all day. She needs to rest.”
“Alright then…”
Her plan to invite Ning Xi and the heroine failed. Tan Hua could only hang up the phone in disappointment, then flop onto the sofa and stare blankly at the ceiling.
After the call, Ning Xi cautiously tucked her phone away like she was hiding stolen goods. She took a deep breath, composed herself, and then turned around with an exaggeratedly cheerful smile.
“Let’s go, Yuan Yuan.”
Cheng Yuan didn’t move. She looked at Ning Xi with a half-smile and said nothing.
Under Cheng Yuan’s gaze, Ning Xi’s heart pounded wildly and her whole body felt stiff. She averted her eyes, about to change the subject, when Cheng Yuan asked lazily,
“Who was that?”
Her tone didn’t betray any anger, but Ning Xi still hesitated before giving an honest answer.
“Tan Hua.”
Cheng Yuan’s eyes narrowed instantly.
“You two close?”
“No, no, not at all!” Ning Xi waved her hands, flustered. “It’s just that yesterday was Old Tang’s birthday, and I saw her a couple of times at the banquet, that’s all.”
“I’m really not close with her, I swear. Yuan Yuan, you’re my best friend—there’s no one else in the world I’m closer to than you.” Ning Xi was practically ready to raise her hand and swear an oath to prove her loyalty.
Cheng Yuan smiled.
“I was just asking casually.” She added with amusement, “Why are you so nervous?”
Ning Xi was at a loss for words. After a pause, she mumbled,
“I was just afraid you’d misunderstand and think there’s something going on between us. I didn’t want you to be upset.”
“What could you possibly have going on with her?”
Cheng Yuan’s lips curled into a slight smile. It seemed like a casual remark, but it made Ning Xi’s heart skip a beat.
This side of Cheng Yuan was simply too overwhelming. Despite the gentle smile on her face, she gave off a strangely intimidating presence that made one’s scalp tingle and heart race.
Ning Xi started to hesitate. Should she confess everything that had happened between her and Tan Hua? If it were in the past, she would’ve reported every detail about that vixen to Cheng Yuan without a second thought. But now, she wasn’t so sure.
Still… Ning Xi thought, even if she kept silent, Cheng Yuan would eventually find out anyway. Maybe she already had. Maybe she was giving Ning Xi a chance to come clean.
After wavering for some time, Ning Xi finally closed her eyes and made a decision.
“But… while I was keeping an eye on her, I discovered a secret.”
Silently apologizing to Tan Hua in her heart, Ning Xi swallowed hard under Cheng Yuan’s amused yet unreadable gaze and slowly said,
“She’s pregnant.”
The smile on Cheng Yuan’s delicately made-up face froze. “?”
“What do you mean?”
The smile vanished from her face, leaving behind a blank, unreadable expression.
“Exactly what it sounds like,” Ning Xi replied, head lowered and eyes fixed on her toes. “The pregnancy was just confirmed today.”
“I happened to be with her and witnessed the early symptoms myself,” she added. “I saw it with my own eyes, and both doctors confirmed the same result. There’s no faking it.”
Cheng Yuan remained expressionless. Her usually soft eyes had grown so deep and unreadable that Ning Xi began to feel genuinely afraid.
She fidgeted with her fingers and continued,
“But we still don’t know who the father is. Judging by everyone else’s reaction, it doesn’t seem like the child belongs to any of them.”
“Later, I also saw her digging out a stack of service agreements from her home—things like assisted reproduction, assisted pregnancy, and childcare services.” Ning Xi paused.
“I don’t know the exact contents of those agreements.”
Having selectively shared what she knew—half-confession, half-concealment—Ning Xi stood frozen like a wooden puppet, motionless and silent, like an NPC that had dropped out of the storyline.
Cheng Yuan didn’t respond for a long time. The string of bombshells left her reeling. Her brows unconsciously furrowed. That Omega… is pregnant?
How could that be possible?
She finally asked, “Has she been marked?”
“No,” Ning Xi answered almost automatically, jolted into reaction by the question. “She’s never been marked by anyone.”
Cheng Yuan stared at her steadily, her gaze probing.
Ning Xi had already told her everything, so she no longer felt guilty. She met Cheng Yuan’s eyes calmly, without flinching.
Cheng Yuan believed her. Not only because of their long-standing friendship, but because there was no reason for Ning Xi to lie. If she wanted to deceive her, she certainly wouldn’t make up something like this.
Silence filled the air again. Ning Xi, unsure of what to do, lowered her head and resumed staring at her shoes.
She heard Cheng Yuan sigh faintly. Then, in a low voice tinged with disappointment, she said,
“So that’s why none of them came to pick me up at the airport.”
Ning Xi wanted to comfort her—Wasn’t I the one who came running over in a panic? But on second thought, she knew full well that she wasn’t the same as Zheng Jinyu and the others. So she chose to remain silent.
“I waited from dawn till dusk, and not a single one of them showed up,” Cheng Yuan said with a soft laugh.
The sound made Ning Xi uneasy. She couldn’t help but try to ease the moment.
“Yuan Yuan, let’s go home. Let’s not wait for them anymore.”
“If they happen to arrive after we’ve left, let it be a punishment for being late,” she added with a small smile.
Cheng Yuan knew Ning Xi was just trying to make her feel better. She smiled in return, though her expression gave nothing away.
“It’s fine. If they’re not coming, then so be it.”
“Let’s go…” she said as she turned to step into the car—only to be stopped by a familiar voice.
“Cheng Yuan-jiejie!”
Cheng Yuan paused in her tracks. Both she and Ning Xi turned to see a tall young man—Wen Chuan—running toward them with a large bouquet of white roses in his arms.
“I’m sorry I’m late,” Wen Chuan said awkwardly. One hand clutched the bouquet tightly, while the other—hidden in his sleeve—trembled slightly.
Cheng Yuan was momentarily dazed before she smiled gently.
“I’m already very happy that you came, Xiao Chuan. There’s no need to feel guilty.”
She lowered the foot she’d just lifted and accepted the bouquet of white roses Wen Chuan handed her. Then, raising her hand, she gently patted his head.
“Why did you come all this way so late at night?”
When Cheng Yuan reached out to him, Wen Chuan instinctively wanted to pull away. But for some reason—perhaps a thought flashed through his mind—he stopped himself at the last second, forcing himself to stay still. Trying to distract himself, he answered softly,
“I just got out of class.”
“I rushed over during dinner break.”
The light in Cheng Yuan’s eyes slowly began to brighten again. Still smiling, she teased,
“Trying to get out of evening study again, aren’t you?”
His little scheme exposed, Wen Chuan looked slightly embarrassed. His gaze flickered.
“…No,” he murmured. “It’s just that your return is such a big deal—I didn’t want to miss it.”
Then, lowering his eyes in confusion, he asked,
“Didn’t you land this morning, though? Why are you still at the airport?”
As soon as those words left his mouth, Wen Chuan noticed a faint shadow pass over Cheng Yuan’s expression. Realizing he might’ve said the wrong thing, he quickly changed the subject.
“I was worried I’d be late. I only rushed over after calling the housekeeper and confirming you hadn’t gotten home yet.”
Cheng Yuan’s hand, which had paused mid-pat, resumed its gentle motion.
“Xiao Chuan is so sweet.”
She didn’t explain why she was still at the airport. Wen Chuan, sensing it was a sensitive subject, didn’t dare to ask further. Like Ning Xi earlier, he turned quiet—standing there like a silent NPC.
Cheng Yuan could sense that both of them were hiding something from her. But she was exhausted, and didn’t have the energy to dig into it.
“It’s already dark. Let’s go home first.”
Her gaze swept from Ning Xi to Wen Chuan. But the moment her eyes met theirs, both instinctively looked away, avoiding eye contact.
Cheng Yuan lingered for a beat before finally withdrawing her gaze.
“Let’s get in the car.”
Ning Xi and Wen Chuan got in one after the other, suddenly unsure of what to say. After a moment of awkward silence, Ning Xi tried to make conversation.
“Yuan Yuan, you came back so early—do you have any plans for what comes next?”
“Not really.” Cheng Yuan opened her eyes. “I’ll just rest at home for a few days and take it from there.”
“So… you’re really giving up on your graduation trip?” Ning Xi asked, a little regretfully.
She remembered how Cheng Yuan had spent years planning that world graduation trip. On those rare nights when they stayed up chatting, Cheng Yuan had proudly and excitedly shared every detail of her itinerary.
Ning Xi had been so moved that she swore she’d find a way to escape Guo Lanyi and tag along. But who could have predicted how things would turn out…
“Looks like it,” Cheng Yuan replied, her eyes unfocused as she stared ahead. Her voice carried a faint weariness.
“I’ll deal with everything here first.”
But everything in the country seemed fine—Cheng Shulan and Dai Yueqing were both well, and the Cheng family’s company was running smoothly. Aside from Tan Hua’s unexpected development, Ning Xi couldn’t think of anything that needed to be “dealt with.”
She pressed her lips together, unsure what to say, and turned to look at Wen Chuan instead.
Wen Chuan’s body stiffened. Then, avoiding Ning Xi’s gaze, she lowered her head without hesitation.
Ning Xi: “…”
What’s up with this kid? Weren’t you the one who used to cling to Yuan Yuan the most?
Why are you acting like a mute today?
So she asked directly,
“Xiao Chuan, why are you so quiet today? Is something bothering you?”
The moment Ning Xi said that, Wen Chuan felt Cheng Yuan’s gaze swish sharply in her direction. Her facial muscles tensed instantly. Under the double stare of the two Omegas, she finally replied, slowly and stiffly,
“No… It’s just the pressure from school. It’s been a bit much.”
Cheng Yuan immediately followed up,
“Then have you been keeping up with your studies lately? No more skipping classes or ignoring the teachers?”
“No,” Wen Chuan answered honestly. “Ms. Wei hired a tutor for me—one-on-one lessons. So now I can barely keep up with the teachers and classmates.”
“Xiao Chuan is amazing,” Cheng Yuan said, finally smiling. But Wen Chuan lowered her eyes guiltily. In front of Cheng Yuan, all she could think about—uncontrollably—was Tan Hua’s every expression, every movement, every smile.
It had been so long since she’d heard anything about Tan Hua.
Even longer since she’d last seen her.
She missed her like she’d gone mad. She thought about her during class, during meals, while reading, while trying to sleep. Her mind was filled with Tan Hua—relentlessly, obsessively. It was driving her insane.
She tried desperately to suppress it, thinking herself twisted. But the more she resisted, the stronger it bounced back. It tormented her, consumed her.
She wanted to go look for Tan Hua. She had, several times—showing up at the bar where Tan Hua lived. But she always came up empty. It was as if Tan Hua had deliberately disappeared from her world.
And when Wen Chuan had begged Ms. Wei to help her get information—just a lead, any lead—Ms. Wei would always reply, “Alright, I’ll have someone look into it.”
But that was it.
Nothing ever came after.
Wen Chuan was frustrated and helpless. If the other person was truly determined to stay hidden, how could she find her so easily?
The neglect was driving her to the edge.
Today, she couldn’t hold back any longer. She almost rushed straight to Shengyuan Group—but then, by chance, saw a new post on Cheng Yuan’s Moments feed.
After a brief hesitation, she bought a bouquet of flowers and hurried over.
A part of her couldn’t help but wonder:
If Tan Hua knew I came to see Cheng Yuan, would she be jealous?
She desperately wanted Tan Hua to see them together—to feel that sting of jealousy. That sense of petty vengeance, of twisted victory, gave her a rush.
While she was lost in her own thoughts, a sudden “ding—” broke the silence. A new text message had arrived.
Both Wen Chuan and Ning Xi instinctively looked toward Cheng Yuan.
Under their intense stares, Cheng Yuan lowered her gaze, staring at the notification on her screen. After a long silence, she slowly entered her password.
Once the phone unlocked, a line of bold black text appeared, clear for all three of them to see:
“Is the baby in Hua Hua’s belly yours?”
Cheng Yuan: “?”
What the hell?
Wen Chuan: Baby?
What baby???
Female Lead: You guys are out of line.
Tan-jie: Doesn’t matter whose it is, you’re still welcome to be the baby’s other mom (just kidding… or not).
