The Five Heartless Scumbag Alphas Turned Against Each Other Because Of Me - Chapter 85
“You heard it wrong,” Sheng Yiheng insisted stubbornly, refusing to admit anything. She even tried to argue, “I was just asking on behalf of a relative’s kid. She’s just turned eighteen—her bright life is only just beginning.”
“Why else would I be this upset?”
“And besides, Tan Hua isn’t even in a relationship. She hasn’t been marked by anyone. How could she possibly be pregnant? Do you think getting pregnant is as easy as eating or drinking these days?” Sheng Yiheng said irritably.
“As for where she is now, I haven’t seen her in hours. Who knows which handsome Alpha she’s sneaking off to date again?” Sheng Yiheng was halfway through her rant when it hit her several hours had passed since Tan Hua had said she was going home to rest.
And during that time, there hadn’t been a single word from her.
Sheng Yiheng paused, frowning. Ning Xi went with her… so there shouldn’t be any danger, right? Still, she couldn’t shake off her unease. Without thinking further, she prepared to end the call with Tang Yanrou and go check on Tan Hua herself.
But Tang Yanrou’s voice stopped her.
“When people lie, they tend to talk too much. They ramble, avoid the point, and try to distract others.”
Sheng Yiheng: “?” What’s with the sudden psychoanalysis?
“And right now, that’s exactly what you’re doing,” Tang Yanrou said quietly, her voice low and steady. “If you don’t want to tell me about Hua Hua, that’s fine. I’ll find out myself.”
She let out a soft, cold laugh. “If you think you can hide everything about her, go ahead and try. But until I find out the truth, I’m not backing down.”
The line went quiet. Sheng Yiheng fell silent. She had only been trying to protect Tang Yanrou, to stop her from getting dragged into this mess. Why couldn’t she see that?
If Tang Yanrou found out the truth, she’d be just as heartbroken. Sheng Yiheng had actually done something kind for once, thinking of someone else—but in the end, it was just wishful thinking.
Still, now that she had accidentally tipped Tang Yanrou off, it felt like she’d created another competitor. That thought made her feel slightly annoyed. But then she shrugged it off—
One more Tang Yanrou or one less makes no difference. It didn’t change anything. She had no choice but to accept it.
Besides, having someone else investigate wasn’t a bad thing. At least for Tan Hua, it could be a good thing. The sooner they found out who was responsible for her pregnancy—the careless Alpha who left her like this—the sooner they could beat that jerk up and vent some anger.
Everyone had always loved and protected Tan Hua, never even raising their voice at her. And now, without anyone realizing it, she had been taken advantage of. Sheng Yiheng was so angry she could wake up in the middle of the night just to curse the guy’s ancestors.
She put down her phone—Tang Yanrou had already hung up—and after a moment of thought, Sheng Yiheng decided to put the search for the culprit on hold. First, she had to find out where Tan Hua had gone.
No word from her since she left… Could something have happened?
Tang Yanrou held her phone tightly. A cold, heavy feeling crept across her face. Her mind was blank, her ears rang, and her head spun.
Sheng Yiheng must be joking, she tried to tell herself.
There was no way. How could Hua Hua be pregnant? How could she have been so careless, to the point of carrying someone else’s child?
As her thoughts slowly cleared and she came back to her senses, Tang Yanrou couldn’t accept it. She refused to believe it deep down.
She even forced herself to believe Sheng Yiheng’s excuse—that this was all about some niece of hers who had been wronged, and that’s who she was defending.
That version of the story was much easier to accept than the idea of Hua Hua being pregnant.
But once a seed of doubt is planted, it starts to grow. Tang Yanrou became overwhelmed with anxiety. She couldn’t even focus on her father’s instructions to entertain the guests.
Her mind was in complete chaos, like a tangled ball of yarn she couldn’t begin to unravel.
She felt suffocated—like a heavy stone was pressing down on her chest, making it hard to breathe. The feeling was unbearable. She shut her eyes tightly and took several deep breaths before finally making a decision.
She dialed the number for the family’s private investigator.
“I need you to look into something for me.”
“As fast as possible—the sooner the better. I want answers within ten minutes.”
After assigning the task to the detective, Tang Yanrou stood by the window, gazing out at the garden where flowers bloomed in vibrant competition. A deep, overwhelming sense of helplessness rose within her without warning.
Do I really want to uncover the truth?
And if I do… do I truly have the courage to face it?
Wouldn’t it be better if she didn’t know anything at all? That way, Hua Hua would still be the same innocent, untouched girl—pure and unscarred.
And Tan Hua wouldn’t have to be hurt all over again because of her investigation.
At that moment, Tang Yanrou felt as if the delicate, wild lily she had carefully cherished—admired by no one but herself—had been cruelly plucked by someone else. One by one, its beautiful white petals were torn apart, leaving it bruised and broken.
Her eyes turned red with sorrow. She couldn’t stop herself from wondering: Why couldn’t I protect her? Why didn’t I meet her sooner?
If only she had entered Tan Hua’s life a little earlier—couldn’t this all have been avoided? Would Tan Hua have been spared this pain?
Tan Hua had worked so hard to get to where she was now. Was her future, her career, really going to be destroyed by this one child?
Tang Yanrou felt a stabbing pain in her chest. She didn’t want to accept this cruel reality. Her heart ached—for Tan Hua, and for the injustice of it all.
Lost in a daze, she stood still for a moment before suddenly making up her mind. She picked up her phone again and called the detective.
“Don’t investigate that matter anymore,” she said firmly. “I don’t want to know the truth.”
“Just find out where Tan Hua is right now. That’s all I care about.”
Tan Hua had been locked up again by Zheng Jinyu—but this time, not in Zheng Jinyu’s home. She was being kept inside the Tang family’s castle. Zheng Jinyu had casually locked her in the same room where she’d stayed the night before.
“You’re not allowed to go anywhere else but here,” she said calmly.
“But I’ll be bored,” Tan Hua protested.
Zheng Jinyu clearly saw that coming. The corners of her mouth curved into a small smile. “I know. That’s why I’ll stay here and keep you company while I work.”
Tan Hua: “?” Could you act like a normal person for once?
She wanted to refuse, but Zheng Jinyu had already brought in her computer and set herself up to stay. Her tone was firm, and her eyes were steady. Tan Hua’s desire to argue faltered and eventually faded altogether.
Left with no choice, she gave in to reality. She reached for a snack from the coffee table, lazily slouched onto the sofa, and looked up at Zheng Jinyu.
“Seriously, I’m starting to suspect there’s something wrong with you,” she said, munching on a cookie. Her words were muffled but sharp. “Otherwise, I can’t figure out why you keep locking me up all day without ever actually doing anything.”
“Or… maybe you’re just a twisted control freak. Maybe you get off on watching me tremble and beg for mercy, just to satisfy some sick little fantasy of yours.”
With every word Tan Hua said, Zheng Jinyu’s expression darkened.
By the time she finished, Zheng Jinyu’s face was completely cold. The atmosphere around her grew so heavy and chilling, it was as if the air itself had frozen.
Zheng Jinyu clenched her fists, trying hard to hold herself back.
Tan Hua was pregnant now—she couldn’t treat her the way she used to. She couldn’t just lose control and lash out. But that didn’t mean she was going to sit there and do nothing while this Omega let her imagination run wild, slandering her with every careless word.
Zheng Jinyu began to move, slowly closing the distance between them.
Tan Hua casually munched on a cookie, completely unafraid. “Are you planning to do something to me?” she asked with a bright, teasing smile. “If you’re one hundred percent sure I can’t escape, then by all means—do whatever you like.”
She even pushed herself up and leaned in closer to Zheng Jinyu. “Otherwise, I’ll report you and ruin your reputation, Zheng Jinyu.”
Zheng Jinyu’s leaning motion paused slightly. Her eyes lingered on Tan Hua for a long moment before she finally said, “I don’t believe you’d really do that. You’re not that heartless…”
“I am,” Tan Hua replied bluntly. “If you don’t believe me, feel free to try.”
Now that the female lead had returned to the country, Tan Hua was determined to prevent the tragedy in the original story from repeating—and from affecting her as well. She felt it was her duty to straighten out these morally bankrupt Alphas. After all, this was a novel world, not some lawless frontier.
The moment Zheng Jinyu dared to test the boundaries of the Omega Protection Act, Tan Hua would expose her without hesitation and drag her name through the mud.
Tan Hua couldn’t help sighing. “I never thought we’d end up like this,” she murmured to the system. “At the beginning, I was doing everything I could to win her over.”
“Turns out human nature really is like this. The more unreachable someone is, the more they’re desired. But once they’re within reach, they’re discarded like trash—never cherished again.”
Reflecting on her own behavior, she admitted her current attitude toward Zheng Jinyu was a little harsh. So she made an effort to rein it in, softening her tone as she said sincerely, “So I really hope you can be a law-abiding citizen, and always remember that the law is not to be crossed.”
Zheng Jinyu: “……”
She honestly wondered if Tan Hua’s pregnancy had affected her brain. Otherwise, why was she talking complete nonsense all day?
Still, after Tan Hua’s self-righteous lecture, all the darker thoughts that had clouded Zheng Jinyu’s mind seemed to vanish. She gave Tan Hua a long, unreadable look, then sat down at her laptop with a blank expression.
Zheng Jinyu began to work.
Tan Hua stared at her for a while, then quickly got bored and took out her phone to entertain herself.
The room fell into a calm silence, broken only by the rhythmic clacking of Zheng Jinyu’s fingers on the keyboard. But the peace didn’t last long—the doorbell suddenly rang.
Zheng Jinyu looked toward Tan Hua. Tan Hua peeled her gaze off her phone screen, shrugged, and said with innocent confusion, “I didn’t call anyone.”
Even if she hadn’t, it was probably still about her. The doorbell kept ringing, so Zheng Jinyu reluctantly got up to open it—only to find an uninvited guest: Tang Yanrou.
The moment Tang Yanrou spotted the Omega on the couch, she stepped forward, clearly intending to take her away. But Zheng Jinyu calmly stretched out an arm and blocked her path.
A faint, distant smile tugged at Zheng Jinyu’s lips. “Miss Tang, what are you trying to do?”
Tang Yanrou shifted her attention to Zheng Jinyu, her gaze unwavering as she spoke in a low, firm voice, “Please step aside, President Zheng. I’m taking Hua Hua with me.”
“No.” Zheng Jinyu didn’t let her finish. Her smile faded slightly. “Please go back, Miss Tang. She’s not leaving with you.”
“Why?” Tang Yanrou’s brows furrowed. She couldn’t understand it.
But her tone quickly turned steely. She enunciated each word slowly and forcefully: “What if I insist on taking her with me?”
Zheng Jinyu lowered her gaze and chuckled lightly. Several seconds passed before she looked back up and replied, mimicking Tang Yanrou’s tone word for word: “I said—no.”
Tan Hua: Excuse me? Am I not a person? Do I not have legs? I can jump right now into the arms of whichever pretty Alpha I choose! (x)
President Zheng: Deadpan stare. Face darkens.
