The Film Queen’s Little Bunny Wife - Chapter 42
There were 25 minutes left until the performance. Ling Hanyan told the accompanying PD that she was going to the restroom.
The venue was too crowded and movement was inconvenient, so she asked him not to follow her immediately.
Then, hugging Tu Jiaojiao, she wove through the crowd, like a whale swimming against the waves in the sea.
After walking a few steps, Tu Jiaojiao realized something was wrong; that wasn’t the direction to the restroom.
“Gugu.” Yanyan, are you hungry again?
They had eaten a lot of food with those girls in the afternoon she shouldn’t be hungry enough for this.
“It’s nothing.” Ling Hanyan stood outside the doorway of the “Scarlet Sand Beach” venue, looked left and right, and quickly walked into a women’s clothing store.
With limited time, she didn’t browse much, casually grabbing a large, oversized black T-shirt and small sized short denim shorts, a pair of sandals, and a dark grey baseball cap.
When paying with the money she earned at the Cat and Board Game Bar today, Ling Hanyan was amused.
The entire outfit cost less than eighty yuan.
Looking around at the large expanse of leopard print pants, tiger head shirts, and dresses printed with brightly colored floral patterns, she belatedly realized she had entered a store specializing in middle-aged women’s clothing.
And the few pure black items she held were the most low-key things in the store.
Because they were low-key, they were unpopular with the older women, and the shop owner was forced to sell them at a one fold discount.
Seeing that the clothes Ling Hanyan had chosen were a size smaller than what she usually wore, Tu Jiaojiao was slightly confused.
Was she buying a “night suit” for Little Tiandou, planning to let her escape during the concert later?
That shouldn’t be right!
Wait, those seemed to be her clothes sizes. Tu Jiaojiao faintly guessed her intention, and her heart began to pound.
“Gugugu.” Yanyan… are the clothes for me?
She asked in a small voice, a hope in her tone that she herself didn’t even detect.
“Mm.” Ling Hanyan raised her hand and stroked Tu Jiaojiao’s ear. The warm, elastic feel captivated her.
But with time pressing, it was clearly not the time for ear-stroking.
“Gugugu.” Wouldn’t that be risky, Yanyan? I think it’s risky! With so many eyes and so many cameras, the sudden appearance of another girl will definitely be noticed.
Although she was very excited, the thought of being discovered still worried Tu Jiaojiao, and she grumbled.
“You won’t be discovered.” Unexpectedly, Ling Hanyan stuck to her idea, leaning down to kiss Tu Jiaojiao’s ear.
She carried Tu Jiaojiao and the clothes back to “Scarlet Sand Beach,” this time actually heading to the restroom.
Ling Hanyan placed the clothes and Tu Jiaojiao inside a toilet stall, leaving a single instruction: “There’s no time, you better be quick,” before turning and leaving.
Even through the restroom door, Tu Jiaojiao could hear the audience’s unrestrained laughter and the sound waves emanating from the speakers. The fear of being discovered was ultimately overshadowed by her anticipation of enjoying the music.
She transformed into her human form, put on the clothes piece by piece, and stood in front of the mirror, finding the person inside somewhat unfamiliar.
Most of Tu Jiaojiao’s clothes were light colored or white, she hardly owned any dark colored clothes, let alone an all black outfit.
Thinking for a moment, she ripped off the one finger wide black satin trim from the hem of the T-shirt, wrapped it around her neck, and tied a knot at the back, faking a choker.
Nodding at her reflection, now she looked more like someone attending a concert.
Tu Jiaojiao put on the baseball cap and walked out of the restroom, trying to blend into the crowd.
When she emerged, the atmosphere seemed even more frenzied than before. The music’s intro sounded somewhat familiar, but she couldn’t immediately recall what it was.
Everyone was facing the stage, screaming and cheering, the atmosphere so chaotic it was practically lifting the roof.
Tu Jiaojiao turned around and looked toward the stage as well. Seeing the person on stage, her heart pounded wildly.
Ling Hanyan, who had originally said she had no plans to perform, was standing on the stage, substituting for Dou Tian.
She was wearing a wide, iridescent outer coat. Every gesture and movement was like a gracefully dancing butterfly.
Her stage makeup was enhanced, and sparkling, crystal rhinestones were pasted on her cheeks, making her seem to glow under the lights.
The moment she saw her, Tu Jiaojiao knew: the background music was the theme song of the movie, Jianghu Wu Yao (No Medicine in the Jianghu).
Ling Hanyan had chosen to draw all attention to herself to cover for Tu Jiaojiao. This was a job she excelled at, and she was doing it well.
Seeing Tu Jiaojiao finally come out, Ling Hanyan looked at her and smiled slightly. The inherently aloof person suddenly became warm, provoking another wave of screams from the audience.
Tu Jiaojiao didn’t rush toward the front. Rushing to the front might lead to her being discovered, wasting Yanyan’s kind intentions.
She stayed in the farthest place from the stage, quietly watching Ling Hanyan, her eyes filled only with her.
Ling Hanyan’s voice gradually rose with the music. As the song echoed in their minds, everyone was once again transported back into the movie Jianghu Wu Yao.
Those who originally came for Dou Tian now only had “Jiang Wuyao” (the character Ling Hanyan played) in their minds.
The lyrics were originally written about the female supporting role’s friendship with the female lead, but when the hot and passionate words came from Ling Hanyan’s mouth, Tu Jiaojiao felt as though she was being confessed to.
An immense sense of happiness burst in her heart. This live performance would be eternally recorded in her memory.
As soon as the song ended, Ling Hanyan’s expression became composed, and she handed the microphone back to Dou Tian.
She didn’t leave the stage, instead sitting on a high stool, letting everyone’s gaze fall upon her, like a backup dancer enhancing the atmosphere.
Tu Jiaojiao hid herself in the crowd, fully enjoying her first-ever live performance, which Ling Hanyan had sacrificed herself and exposed herself to the public to provide for her.
She thought that was the end of it, but a few songs later, Dou Tian was so hyped up that she started randomly selecting audience members to join her on stage for a duet.
The spotlight shone on Tu Jiaojiao’s head once more. Her face slightly changed, and she almost instinctively tried to flee.
However, amidst the envious expressions of the crowd, she managed to force a smile and slowly walked onto the stage.
The duet song was a classic old song, one that Tu Jiaojiao, a little rabbit demon who traveled from three hundred years in the future, had also heard before.
But even if she didn’t know how to sing it, it didn’t matter. The atmosphere in the venue was so warm and surging that the collective audience singing had already drowned out the microphone.
As they reached the climax, Ling Hanyan stopped being a wallflower. She stepped down from the high stool, walked over to Tu Jiaojiao in her high heels, and placed her hand on Tu Jiaojiao’s shoulder while leaning close to her in the moment she was stunned.
Thinking Ling Hanyan was about to kiss her in front of everyone, Tu Jiaojiao was startled. Luckily, it was clear to anyone with eyes that Ling Hanyan only wanted to share the microphone of the “lucky audience member.”
Tu Jiaojiao sighed in relief, but a strange sense of regret inexplicably rose in her heart. She secretly wished the kiss had actually happened. Tu Jiaojiao looked up at Ling Hanyan, trying to flirt with her through her eyes.
However, Yanyan was gazing intently at the audience below, not even sparing her a side glance.
This wasn’t Ling Hanyan’s fault. Her action of walking over had been an impulse, but as she approached the little rabbit, she regretted it, terrified that she might unintentionally reveal excessive intimacy in full view of the public.
So, she had no choice but to maintain her current posture, look straight at the audience, suppress the layers of love in her heart, and create the illusion that she was performing the song for everyone.
She was also afraid Dou Tian would get too carried away and cause another scene.
After finishing the duet, Tu Jiaojiao practically fled from the stage.
Once a few more lucky audience members were selected to go on stage and the attention was no longer on her, she found a secluded spot, transformed back into her rabbit form, and happily waited for Yanyan to take her home.
