The Film Queen’s Little Bunny Wife - Chapter 15
Back on the set, the manager Wen Su saw the car arrive and rushed to greet it. Seeing Lin Yingxue sitting in the car, she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Oh, my ancestor, where did you run off to! Why are you so worked up about something that hasn’t even been finalized?” She grabbed Lin Yingxue and started lecturing her.
Wen Su was not only her manager but also her aunt (mother’s sister-in-law). After finding out she ran away, she was more worried than anyone else, and her assistant had been scolded countless times.
“I just went out for a walk to clear my head…” Facing her aunt’s anger, Lin Yingxue shrank her neck and dared not tell the truth.
Knowing Wen Su’s competitive personality and tendency to dwell on things, Ling Hanyan stepped forward to intervene. “It’s okay, she only walked a few steps before running into me.”
Only then did Wen Su see Ling Hanyan and the petite girl behind her.
She nodded: “That’s good then, thank you both. I was so worried after I learned Xiaoxue ran off.”
Tu Jiaojiao felt a little strange in her heart. If she was truly worried, why didn’t she go look for the person herself?
She smiled, showing her bunny teeth, and asked in a seemingly innocent manner: “What exactly happened? That made our Ice Princess so angry.”
Wen Su’s gaze fell upon her. The girl had meticulously refined features and an inherently wealthy aura. Given she was with Ling Hanyan… she was likely the rich second generation of some family who had just debuted, right?
Therefore, she answered politely: “During the festival a while ago, Xiaoxue was asked to attend a dinner, wasn’t she? Mr. Chen wanted her contact information, but Xiaoxue didn’t give it to him. Mr. Chen felt disrespected, so he withdrew his investment from the Crane Spirit Empress production.”
This… sounds like he got angry and retaliated after a failed attempt at an unsolicited request, right?
But Wen Su stated it so lightly that Tu Jiaojiao wasn’t entirely sure.
She turned to look at Lin Yingxue, who was hanging her head. Her expression was obscured, but she was likely unhappy.
“Did he invest a lot of money?” Tu Jiaojiao asked.
“Almost half of it,” Director Li sighed and said, “It was Mr. Chen’s first time investing in a film, so we originally wouldn’t have given him so many shares, but someone else introduced him, so it was hard to refuse.”
At the end of his statement, he was quite furious, “I never expected him to have this intention! He said he wouldn’t withdraw his investment if we replaced the Ice Princess, but Xiaoxue, don’t worry, I won’t agree to that!”
“So, is the crew short on money now?” Tu Jiaojiao understood the situation and asked cautiously.
Director Li smiled bitterly: “Yes, we are.”
Seeing Tu Jiaojiao look eager to help, Ling Hanyan’s heart sank.
She recalled that when they first met, the little bunny had told her that her family had a small investment in this film.
But since she only did it to meet her, the investment was probably small, a few million at most.
Did this little bunny know how much money it takes to shoot a movie?! No, she couldn’t let her continue to act rashly!
Ling Hanyan interrupted her train of thought, directly hooked her arm around Tu Jiaojiao’s, and pulled her away.
“Jiaojiao, the director has been in this circle for so long, he definitely has a way,” she said once they were out of earshot.
The implication was to keep Tu Jiaojiao separated from this matter.
It was meant as protection, but it also felt distant.
Sensing that Yanyan didn’t want her to get involved, Tu Jiaojiao felt particularly disappointed.
She looked up, only feeling that Ling Hanyan’s expression was too calm. She opened her eyes wide and looked closely, but found she couldn’t discern any joy or anger.
It seemed that today was indeed not a date… How could so many irrelevant things happen on a date?
Unable to deceive herself any longer, sadness suddenly surged into her heart. Tu Jiaojiao nodded obediently with a hum, and released the arm that was linked with Ling Hanyan’s.
She was still smiling on the surface, but her smile was pitifully weak, “Hehe, I forgot I was still holding your arm.”
Silence descended like a pouring rain. The street light overhead flickered on and off, and a sizzling sound of poor contact came from it.
Suddenly, it reached the end of its life and went completely dark.
In a completely unfamiliar environment, having one’s sight taken away is very frightening.
The Moon Rabbit bloodline was at work. Tu Jiaojiao wanted to walk out of the darkness, but the profound fear made her unable to move.
A warmth came from the back of her hand. The dim moonlight bloomed in Ling Hanyan’s eyes, like a bright lamp.
A gurgling, watery sound arose near her ear, causing a hot, ticklish sensation in her ear canal, “Did you call a car? You should go home.”
Just one sentence, one look, one action.
The gloom in Tu Jiaojiao’s heart was blown away. She gently held Ling Hanyan’s warm palm in return, “The driver has been waiting, we can leave anytime.”
“Then let’s go,” Ling Hanyan’s lips curved into a warm smile.
In her heart, she thought: Leave me, leave this place, don’t look back.
Director Li’s words almost fully explained why the crew had been in such a state of panic recently, and the darkness hidden within the situation.
As soon as Ling Hanyan heard it, her blood pressure shot up, and her fists clenched hard.
She had only thought before that Wen Su was unsuitable as a manager because she was too worldly.
But now, she resolutely believed that Wen Su did not deserve to be a manager.
Who knows how much Director Li promised her, that she would be willing to send her own niece out like that.
But with her little fan by her side, she suppressed the gloom in her eyes.
Immediately after seeing Tu Jiaojiao off, she returned to her residence.
She turned on her computer, logged into her long-dormant account, sighed, and sent a message with a trembling hand to her only friend on the list.
[You there?]
The reply came back instantly, [Yanyan? You finally logged in!]
[Sister Xuan, it’s me. I need you to help me investigate someone this time, Chen Jinru.]
[Sht! Is someone after you again? After last time, I thought no one would dare to make a move!*]
[Don’t be angry, Sister Xuan, it’s not me this time, it’s a young girl in the crew.]
[No way, that still makes me angry! I’m telling you, stop making movies. The people in this circle are all messed up.]
Here we go again… Someone who is almost forty acts like a tinderbox every day.
Ling Hanyan smiled helplessly, [Chen Jinru, forty-seven years old, works in engineering, that’s all I know.]
She closed the computer before Sister Xuan could reply again.
She knew the other side might have already started transmitting a virus to this computer, so she wouldn’t contact her unless absolutely necessary.
Tu Jiaojiao finished her cultivation and went directly to Ling Hanyan’s place; her second destination was her own home.
Although she hadn’t been home for almost two months, the cleaning lady had kept the house in perfect order, just as it was before she left.
Floping onto the soft bed, she idly scrolled through her photo album. Although there were no photos together today, she had taken many landscape photos.
These were all precious memories.
When she paused at a picture of her rabbit form, she froze.
It was a great thing that Ling Hanyan was a rabbit lover, but there were no rabbits in her house!
If Ling Hanyan suddenly wanted to pet a rabbit one day, she couldn’t just transform on the spot, could she!
