The Film Empress White Moonlight Wants To Be A Salted Fish - Chapter 37
“Dad…” Xie Shuyao’s voice trembled. Wen Shiyan looked up at Xie Shuyao and said in a cold voice to the person who often followed Father Wen: “Prepare for the funeral.”
“Put Shiyan’s words aside for now, let’s talk about Big Brother’s shares first,” an elder said, tidying his cuff as he looked at Wen Shiyan.
Another person falsely said, “Niece, you’ve been busy filming. Why don’t you give the shares to your uncles? Your uncles can manage them for you.”
Wen Shiyan scoffed, “Shares? Why don’t you go ask him for them yourselves.”
“What? Is that how you speak to your elders!”
“Besides, his shares were sold a long time ago. Don’t you know who bought them?”
After Wen Shiyan finished speaking, she saw them looking at each other suspiciously. She said to Xie Shuyao, “Let’s go, home.”
Xiao Yu was waiting for Wen Shiyan and the others outside the hospital. Before coming, she had already seen the message Lu Yiran sent her.
After Wen Shiyan got into the car, Xiao Yu saw her looking pale and sick. She worriedly asked, “Shiyan, can you hold on?”
“It’s nothing. I just took my medicine,” Wen Shiyan said, closing her eyes and leaning back against the seat.
Feeling out of place, Xie Shuyao weakly asked from the side, “Is… something wrong?”
Seeing Wen Shiyan shake her head at her, Xiao Yu didn’t tell Xie Shuyao. She said to Xie Shuyao, “It’s nothing, nothing. We’re going home now.”
When they returned home, Xie Shuyao saw her mother waiting for them at the door.
“Shiyan, how is your dad? Some people came to the house just now and wouldn’t let me go to the hospital…”
“He has passed away. Auntie, those people didn’t do anything to you, did they?” Wen Shiyan said, only to see the woman in front of her hug her and start crying.
Wen Shiyan was hugged so tightly that her entire body was exposed outside the umbrella.
“Mom…” Xie Shuyao said worriedly, only to see her mother look at Wen Shiyan with heartache. “Good, good girl. The three of us are a family now.”
It was still raining outside, and Xiao Yu was afraid Wen Shiyan’s cold would worsen. “Auntie, let’s go inside first,” she said. The woman in front of them quickly nodded. “Right, right, let’s go inside and talk.”
Wen Shiyan went inside and changed her clothes. “Auntie, did those people say anything else to you?” Xiao Yu asked. The aunt thought for a moment and said to her, “They asked if Shiyan had returned home, but I didn’t answer them.”
Xiao Yu sighed after hearing that and said to Wen Shiyan, “It seems they can’t wait.”
Wen Shiyan looked indifferent. “So what? Let them fight among themselves.”
Just then, the elder from the hospital pushed the door open and shouted at Wen Shiyan, “Wen Shiyan, aren’t you even sad that your father died?!”
Wen Shiyan looked up at him and said, “Where are the security guards? Why didn’t they stop him?”
“Sorry, Miss Wen. We thought he knew Mr. Wen, so we let him in. We’ll ask him to leave right now!” The security guard said, then told the elder, “Sir, please leave immediately.”
“You!” The elder could no longer maintain his initial amiable facade and looked at Wen Shiyan furiously.
Xiao Yu smiled and said to the elder, “Hurry up and go find your brothers. Do you know what they’ve been doing behind your back?”
The elder looked at the others, but still took Xiao Yu’s words to heart, turned, and left in a hurry.
Watching the elder’s retreating back, Xiao Yu sneered, “Heh, these old guys probably haven’t even figured out what their own people are up to.”
Wen Shiyan’s lips were colorless. The light made her figure look even more fragile. “Uncle Zhang, I’ll have to trouble you later…” With that, Wen Shiyan numbly went upstairs.
Seeing Wen Shiyan’s distraught look, Xie Shuyao wanted to follow her upstairs but was stopped by Xiao Yu. “Don’t worry, just let her be alone for a while. She’ll come down later,” Xiao Yu said, looking at Wen Shiyan going upstairs alone.
Closing the door, Wen Shiyan spoke to the wall, “Why? Why is it different this time?”
[Did I ever say it would be the same? But when did you remember? Ah, that’s not important.] It muttered to itself.
[We are allies, believe me, this time we can definitely save…]
Wen Shiyan was expressionless, but her reddened eyes betrayed her. She leaned against the door, gasping for air, her hand clutching the fabric over her chest.
Can it really be done this time?
“Yiran, what’s wrong?” Director Zhang asked, seeing Lu Yiran spacing out.
“Ah, nothing,” Lu Yiran said, looking at the photo of Wen Shiyan that Xiao Yu had sent her.
In the photo, Wen Shiyan’s eyes were only slightly red, and she seemed fine.
But she seemed to have sensed something just now, suddenly feeling strange, as if something was about to happen soon…
“Yiran, Shiyan said she’d be back in three days. Let’s go to the town and wait for them for the next few days,” Director Zhang said. Lu Yiran thought that doing anything in the countryside would be inconvenient, so she nodded in agreement with Director Zhang.
“Big Brother! How could you just leave like this!”
“Big Brother, you haven’t even seen the company develop again yet!”
“Big Brother, what will we do now that you’re gone?”
At the funeral, several people kept wailing loudly. Xiao Yu was annoyed by the sound and impatiently asked Wen Shiyan, who was dressed in black beside her, “Shiyan, is three days enough?”
Looking at the noisy hall and the several hypocritical people, Wen Shiyan sighed. “Enough… Three days is enough…” she said, then glanced at the photo placed in the center of the hall, and Xie Shuyao and her mother standing next to it.
In three days, Wen Shiyan bid farewell to her father.
At the airport, the elder led his brothers and blocked Wen Shiyan. “Wen Shiyan! You can’t just leave like this!”
The voice was so loud that the people around, upon hearing the name “Wen Shiyan,” all turned to look at her.
“Wen Shiyan? I didn’t hear wrong, Wen Shiyan is here?”
“The one standing in front of them must be Wen Shiyan…”
The whispers were numerous, and although very quiet, Wen Shiyan and the others could still hear them.
“I already said, my father did not give the shares to me.” After saying that, before the surrounding people could approach, Wen Shiyan and Xiao Yu left and boarded the plane.
Looking at the downcast Xie Shuyao, Xiao Yu comforted her, “Uncle Zhang and the security guards are at home. They won’t let those people harass Auntie again, don’t worry.” Xiao Yu said, nudging Wen Shiyan with her arm, hoping she would say something.
“Yes, don’t worry.”
After saying that, Wen Shiyan did not say another word.
After getting off the plane, Wen Shiyan and the others arrived at the town Director Zhang mentioned. When Wen Shiyan saw Lu Yiran in the crowd, she froze for a moment. Then, she dropped the things in her hand and ran over to tightly hug Lu Yiran.
Lu Yiran was hugged so hard she nearly fell. Lu Yiran had wanted to ask Wen Shiyan to let go, but remembering that Wen Shiyan’s father had just passed away and Wen Shiyan must be feeling bad, she silently let Wen Shiyan hold her for a while.
“Hmph, you’re only allowed to hug me for a little while.”
“Thank you…” Wen Shiyan held Lu Yiran tightly as if she were a precious treasure, afraid she would disappear from her arms.
Passersby looked curiously at the two of them. Director Zhang couldn’t watch any longer and forcefully separated Wen Shiyan from Lu Yiran.
“Are you trying to get recognized and have a ‘hot search one-day tour’?”
Hearing Director Zhang’s words, Wen Shiyan seemed to come to her senses and apologized to Lu Yiran.
“Then let’s go to where we’re staying and rest first. You’ve been through a lot these past few days,” Director Zhang said, helping them pick up some things to share the weight.
Seeing Wen Shiyan standing still and not catching up, Lu Yiran walked up to her. “Wen Shiyan, what’s wrong? I really didn’t mind just now, you don’t have to…” Before Lu Yiran could finish, Wen Shiyan collapsed onto Lu Yiran.
Lu Yiran caught Wen Shiyan and quickly asked Director Zhang to call 120. She frantically felt Wen Shiyan’s forehead and found her temperature dangerously high.
The ambulance hadn’t arrived yet, and Lu Yiran anxiously asked Xiao Yu, “Sister Xiao Yu, did she not take her medicine these past few days?”
“I told her to go to the hospital right away, but she said she was fine, and she genuinely seemed okay from two days ago until just now.” A hint of panic flashed in Xiao Yu’s eyes.
Seeing that everyone was worried about her, Wen Shiyan struggled to open her eyes and said to them, “It’s nothing… I’ll be fine after a nap…” After saying that, she completely passed out again.
At the hospital, Wen Shiyan lay quietly in the hospital bed after waking up.
Seeing Wen Shiyan awake, Lu Yiran, who was peeling an apple, said, “Sigh, I told you I have quite a fate with hospitals.”
“Sorry for making you worry,” Wen Shiyan said, looking closely at Lu Yiran. “Yiran, can you come a little closer?”
“Huh? Why…” Lu Yiran put down the small knife and apple and walked closer to Wen Shiyan. Wen Shiyan stared at Lu Yiran without speaking for a moment. Lu Yiran felt a little uncomfortable and looked away.
“Wen Shiyan, you’re acting a little strange…” Lu Yiran took a few steps back and said.
Looking at Lu Yiran, Wen Shiyan had a faint smile on her lips. “I just missed you all a little…”
After a while, Wen Shiyan asked Lu Yiran, “Lu Yiran, do you like Xie Shuyao?” Wen Shiyan’s sudden question caught Lu Yiran off guard. After thinking for a while, Lu Yiran said, “Yes, I like her a lot.”
“What about Ruan Ning?”
Lu Yiran nodded. “Yes, I like her a lot.”
“What about me?” Wen Shiyan looked at Lu Yiran with expectation.
“She’s okay, I guess. Why do you ask?” Lu Yiran asked, puzzled.
“It’s nothing. This bottle of medicine is almost empty. Can you help me call the nurse?” Watching Lu Yiran leave, Wen Shiyan breathed a sigh of relief.
[I told you, she would definitely still like you.]
“The meaning is not quite the same, but never mind.” Wen Shiyan looked towards the door. “As long as she can be safe all the time, that’s the best. Don’t forget the promise you made to me.”
In the hallway, Lu Yiran touched her slightly burning face. Wen Shiyan must have a fever that made her silly, otherwise why would she ask her such a question just now? Lu Yiran told the nurse about Wen Shiyan’s incoherent state.
After the IV drip was changed, Lu Yiran asked Wen Shiyan, “Wen Shiyan, is there anything you’d like to eat?”
Wen Shiyan was just about to say she wanted the millet porridge Lu Yiran had bought when she saw Xiao Yu come in carrying a lot of bags.
“Shiyan, I bought the porridge. Have some.” Xiao Yu said, only to see Wen Shiyan looking at her expressionlessly.
