The Film Empress White Moonlight Wants To Be A Salted Fish - Chapter 18
“We only found that Lu Yiran comes from a family that couldn’t be more ordinary; other than that, we haven’t found anything!”
Wen Shiyan looked a bit confused: “So what’s the problem with that?”
“It’s a huge problem. The house she bought is opposite yours. Although the floor plan is smaller than yours, the price is not small. Also, some of her clothes look ordinary, but I can’t be mistaken they are specially privately tailored,” Xiao Yu said, trying to keep his voice down. “From the looks of it, her family is definitely not ordinary; it seems to be even richer than yours.”
Hearing Xiao Yu’s last sentence, Wen Shiyan finally understood. “Didn’t you dislike Lu Yiran before?”
Hearing Wen Shiyan’s words, Xiao Yu cleared his throat: “Well, she’s changed a lot, hasn’t she? Making more friends is always a good thing, and you two will be spending so much time together next. A good relationship between the two of you is more important than anything.”
“Everyone gather up! We’ll talk about anything else later!” Director Zhang’s voice interrupted the two of them. Wen Shiyan and Xiao Yu walked towards Director Zhang.
Director Zhang stood on a small mound with a megaphone and shouted: “The official recording won’t start until the day after tomorrow. Shiyan, you can choose any room you like for now. When the recording begins, we will reassign roommates. Grandma and Xiao Mian will also stay with us. The rest of the staff should check the equipment and then rest.” After speaking, Director Zhang jumped off the mound and went into the car to discuss with the producer.
“Ah, I’m exhausted. Yiran-jie, are you tired?” Xie Shuyao leaned in and asked Lu Yiran.
“Not really. Let’s go choose rooms.” Lu Yiran held Du Mian’s hand, who was hiding behind her. Wen Shiyan supported Grandma, and they went to the accommodation.
Each room only had two beds. Since everyone was already tired, they grouped up in pairs according to the previous arrangement.
“Teacher Lu, you choose first.”
After Lu Yiran spoke, the listless Lu Shiran didn’t refuse. She casually picked a room and stayed in it with Ruan Ning.
After choosing a room, Lu Yiran took Grandma and Du Mian to their room.
After settling the two of them, Lu Yiran was about to leave with her bag when Du Mian tugged at her clothes. Lu Yiran squatted down and asked softly, “Xiao Mian doesn’t want me to leave?” Du Mian nodded eagerly, her eyes full of expectation as she looked at Lu Yiran.
“Xiao Mian, how can you trouble your sister?” Grandma got up and was about to pull Du Mian back.
“It’s okay, Grandma. Maybe there were too many people just now, and Xiao Mian hasn’t gotten used to it yet. I’ll stay here with her for a while.”
There was a knock on the door. When Lu Yiran opened it, she saw it was Wen Shiyan. Wen Shiyan said to Lu Yiran, “Give me your things. I’ll put them away for you first. You stay here with Xiao Mian.” After Wen Shiyan spoke, Lu Yiran didn’t hesitate and handed the two bags she was carrying to Wen Shiyan.
“Thank you for your trouble, Teacher Wen.”
After Wen Shiyan left, Lu Yiran and Du Mian started looking at the picture books Du Mian had brought with her.
Suddenly, Lu Yiran heard someone shouting something downstairs. She saw Grandma leaning on her cane and shouting a reply from upstairs.
Seeing Grandma return, Lu Yiran asked curiously, “Grandma, do the villagers here speak the local dialect?”
“Yes, some of the elderly people here can’t speak Mandarin. Those who can speak Mandarin have a heavy accent, but if you listen carefully, you can still understand some. Director Zhang is a kind person, too. There were villages with better conditions than ours, but she chose to come here and even offered to promote our local specialties for free. We don’t say it, but we know it in our hearts.” Grandma sighed as she spoke.
Lu Yiran thought to herself: Director Zhang is indeed a great person.
“Then why are your and Du Mian’s Mandarin so good?”
“We have a radio at home. I thought I shouldn’t let Xiao Mian stay in the countryside with me forever, so I listened to the radio and learned every day, and then taught it to Xiao Mian. These books are ones that some children in the village didn’t want, so I brought them back.” Grandma’s rough hand stroked the somewhat worn covers of the books.
“I see…” Lu Yiran looked at Du Mian, who was sitting obediently on the chair. “Xiao Mian, when I go back, I’ll bring you more books.”
“Really?” Du Mian looked at Lu Yiran with expectation.
“Of course, Big Sister won’t lie to you.” After Lu Yiran spoke, Du Mian threw herself into her arms. “Thank you, Big Sister!”
Lu Yiran smiled and stroked Du Mian’s head.
Returning to her own room, Lu Yiran found that Wen Shiyan was already lying on the bed.
“Wen Shiyan, are you feeling unwell?” Lu Yiran squatted in front of Wen Shiyan’s bed and asked.
