The Film Empress White Moonlight Wants To Be A Salted Fish - Chapter 17
When Wen Shiyan woke up, she saw that Lu Yiran was still asleep. She quietly got out of the car and went inside the house to change her clothes.
“Granny, let me help you.” Seeing Granny making breakfast, Wen Shiyan instinctively came over to help her.
“Oh, I’ll do it myself.” Granny looked kindly at Wen Shiyan.
Wen Shiyan shook her head and continued to help Granny cook.
Because there were too many people and not enough ingredients, when Wen Shiyan saw Granny preparing to pour out all the rice in the house, she stopped her.
“We brought some food with us, Director Zhang will bring it over later. Please keep the rest of the rice for yourselves, Granny.” Wen Shiyan said, helping Granny put the rice back in its original place.
When the meal was almost ready, Wen Shiyan untied the apron and went back to the car. “Lu Yiran, it’s time to get up.” She called softly to Lu Yiran, but Lu Yiran didn’t react at all. Wen Shiyan had no choice but to lightly tap Lu Yiran’s arm with her hand.
Woken up by the tap, Lu Yiran clearly saw the person in front of her. She rubbed her eyes and mumbled, “Ah, morning, Wen Shiyan…”
“It’s not early, it’s time to get up and eat.” Wen Shiyan said, throwing Lu Yiran’s clothes into her arms. Lu Yiran got up and followed Wen Shiyan into the house to change.
“You’ll have to make do with this food and don’t mind it. I don’t have anything better here.” Granny looked at Lu Yiran and the others with some concern, afraid the food wouldn’t suit their taste.
“This is already very good, thank you, Granny.” Lu Yiran said, then pulled Du Mian, who was hesitant to approach them, to eat together.
Seeing so many people around, Du Mian lowered her head and shyly leaned closer to Lu Yiran.
Granny was afraid Du Mian’s behavior would make Lu Yiran and the others think she was rude, so she explained, “The child is a little shy with strangers, please don’t mind her…”
Normally, Du Mian only spoke to the elderly people in the village, and the village children wouldn’t play with her because of what their parents said. This was her first time interacting with people from outside the village.
After eating, the rain outside stopped, and the sun immediately came out, making the weather start to feel a bit hot again. Since Granny had to return to the village for something, Director Zhang suggested she and Du Mian ride in the car with them to the village.
Granny waved her hand and said, “No need. My clothes are too old, I’m afraid they’ll dirty your car. You just take Xiao Mian with you.”
Wen Shiyan heard their conversation and got out of the car. “Granny’s clothes aren’t dirty at all.” Although the clothes were faded from washing, Granny’s attire was still neat. She took Granny’s hand and helped her sit in the car. Considering that Du Mian was more attached to Lu Yiran, Wen Shiyan sat in the passenger seat, letting Granny and Du Mian sit with Lu Yiran.
The road to the village was very rough, and they drove for what felt like a long time before reaching their destination.
“Phew, we finally made it.” Lu Yiran got out of the car and stretched, then helped Granny out of the car. Wen Shiyan went to the other side and lifted Du Mian down.
Xie Shuyao came to Granny’s side and asked, “Granny, do you usually have to walk all the way to the village?” Granny smiled and nodded. “Thanks to you all, my legs aren’t good. It usually takes almost an entire afternoon for Xiao Mian and me to walk to the village and bring back things.”
Seeing more and more strangers, Du Mian pressed her head against Wen Shiyan.
Seeing Wen Shiyan holding Du Mian and carrying a backpack, Lu Yiran came over and held out her hand: “Give me your bag.”
“The bag is a bit heavy.” Wen Shiyan’s words were essentially a refusal. “Just give it to me, I want to see how heavy it is.” Lu Yiran said, taking Wen Shiyan’s backpack and putting it on her own back.
Carrying both bags, Lu Yiran walked forward with some effort.
“Give it back to me.” Just as Wen Shiyan reached out to take her bag, Lu Yiran pushed her hand away. “It’s just a bag, I didn’t say I couldn’t handle it.”
On the way to the designated location for the variety show, Lu Yiran and the others were stared at curiously by the villagers. Lu Yiran looked closely at the villagers; indeed, just as Director Zhang had said, there were very few children, mostly elderly people. These villagers seemed to be saying something, but Lu Yiran couldn’t understand a single word.
Not far away, Xiao Yu and Chen Ziyun were standing in the sun fanning themselves, waiting for Wen Shiyan and Lu Yiran. They had arrived in the village several days before the production team and had been waiting here ever since.
Chen Ziyun had gotten familiar with Xiao Yu after spending a few days together. She casually handed Xiao Yu a bottle of water: “Hey, Sister Xiao Yu, when do you think they’ll get here?”
Xiao Yu twisted open the bottle cap and took a sip. “They should be arriving soon.”
No sooner said than done, right after Xiao Yu spoke, Lu Yiran was waving at them.
“Chen Ziyun, why are you here?” Lu Yiran ran over to Chen Ziyun with her bags and asked.
Chen Ziyun pulled Lu Yiran closer and whispered, “What if you get into trouble if I’m not around?” Seeing that Lu Yiran hadn’t mentioned anything about the variety show, Chen Ziyun secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
“Shiyan, come here for a moment.” Xiao Yu crooked her finger at Wen Shiyan.
Wen Shiyan put Du Mian down and brought her to Lu Yiran’s side. She squatted down and said to Du Mian, “Xiao Mian, play with Sister Yiran for a while, okay?” Du Mian obediently nodded. Only after seeing Lu Yiran take Du Mian’s hand did Wen Shiyan feel relieved enough to walk towards Xiao Yu.
Seeing Wen Shiyan put the child down and come over, Xiao Yu took a deep breath and asked Wen Shiyan, “What is your relationship with Lu Yiran now?”
“Friends.”
“Then what was going on during the live broadcast?”
“Just normal interaction between friends.” Wen Shiyan looked at Xiao Yu with a puzzled expression.
Then, realizing something, Wen Shiyan helplessly massaged her temples and said to Xiao Yu, “Sister Xiao Yu, are you misunderstanding something?”
“Fine, whether you’re just ordinary friends or not, from now on you must be good friends. Guess what I found when I looked up Lu Yiran?”
Hearing Xiao Yu say this, Wen Shiyan also became a little curious. “What did you find?”
