The Film Empress White Moonlight Wants To Be A Salted Fish - Chapter 12
Lu Yiran started preparing for the trip as soon as she got home. Although there were still a few days until the variety show began, Lu Yiran was already a little impatient.
The confirmed guests she knew, besides Wen Shiyan, were Xie Shuyao. No matter how much she asked Wen Shiyan about the remaining few, Wen Shiyan refused to say, only telling her she would know when the time came.
“What a big secret,” Lu Yiran mumbled softly.
“Knock, knock, knock”
“Coming!” Lu Yiran got up to open the door for Chen Ziyun.
“Ugh, I’m exhausted.” Chen Ziyun put down her bag and sat on the sofa. Lu Yiran handed her a bottle of cola.
“Lu Yiran, you’ve really landed on your feet this time. I was worried you and Wen Shiyan wouldn’t get along, but I never expected Wen Shiyan to actually fight for this opportunity for you,” Chen Ziyun said, then changed the subject. “So, what exactly happened between you and Wen Shiyan”
Chen Ziyun’s ambiguous tone made Lu Yiran blush. “Don’t talk nonsense. Wen Shiyan was probably just impressed by my personal charm.” Lu Yiran said with a straight face.
Chen Ziyun covered her mouth, trying not to laugh out loud.
Seeing that Lu Yiran was about to explode from embarrassment, Chen Ziyun waved her hand. “Alright, moving on from this topic, next.” Chen Ziyun cleared her throat and said: “The known guests are you, Wen Shiyan, and Xie Shuyao. It’s not hard to see the production team’s goal. I also found out in the past couple of days that Qin Mo will also be participating in this variety show.”
“Qin Mo? Why is she participating in this variety show?” Lu Yiran felt something was off about Qin Mo, though she couldn’t pinpoint what; she just sensed Qin Mo was acting a bit strange toward her.
“It’s likely to promote her family’s company, as her family is also an investor in this show.”
“There are a total of six guests. Who are the remaining two?” Lu Yiran asked Chen Ziyun curiously.
Chen Ziyun shook her head: “I don’t know that. The production team hasn’t leaked a single word. They must have quite the background.”
After eating with Lu Yiran, Chen Ziyun left because she had work to attend to.
Lu Yiran remembered Wen Shiyan saying that the variety show would start filming by picking up the guests. Bored, Lu Yiran tidied up her room again.
After dumping the trash, Lu Yiran stood at the door and looked at the tightly closed door across the hallway. It was quite strange; since she moved in, she had never heard the door opposite open.
But perhaps they had been home and left again while she was at Wen Shiyan’s house, Lu Yiran thought.
As the start time for the variety show drew closer, Lu Yiran expected the director to notify them about who the guests were so they could get acquainted, but the director didn’t mention a single word, prioritizing the element of surprise.
The afternoon before the variety show started, the production team arranged for staff to come to Lu Yiran’s home to install cameras and camcorders.
“Thank you for your hard work, everyone,” Lu Yiran said, offering bottled water to the crew.
“Thank you, Teacher Lu,” a girl said, smiling as she thanked Lu Yiran.
“Thank you, Teacher Lu. We’ll hurry up and finish installing so you can rest soon.” The others finished speaking and started to get busy.
Looking at Lu Yiran, everyone collectively thought: Indeed, you can’t trust the content on Weibo.
After a while, Lu Yiran heard a commotion coming from the house opposite. “Say, why is it so noisy across the hall? Are they renovating?” Lu Yiran asked a staff member who wasn’t too busy.
“Huh? Doesn’t Teacher Lu know? Teacher Wen lives right across from you.” Faced with the staff member’s confused expression, Lu Yiran, afraid he might think she and Wen Shiyan were on bad terms, quickly said: “Ah, I almost forgot. Teacher Wen mentioned it to me a few days ago. Look at my memory.” Lu Yiran chuckled, glossing over the matter.
Lu Yiran went across and knocked on the door. It was Wen Shiyan who opened it. Seeing Wen Shiyan, Lu Yiran pulled her into a small, empty corner.
“Why didn’t you tell me you live here?” Lu Yiran whispered.
“I just remembered I had an empty apartment here that I could use.”
Wen Shiyan’s words reeked of wealth, making Lu Yiran completely envious.
Lu Yiran stepped into Wen Shiyan’s place for a quick look. It was indeed an empty apartment, with nothing but the most basic furniture.
Remembering that Wen Shiyan’s house didn’t even have a bowl, Lu Yiran struggled internally for a moment before saying: “Ah, come over to my place for dinner tonight.”
For the two-day acquaintance segment of the variety show, Lu Yiran had specifically used the past few days to learn how to cook some simple dishes.
“Mhm.”
Hearing Wen Shiyan agree, Lu Yiran breathed a sigh of relief. If Wen Shiyan hadn’t agreed, her self-invitation would have been quite awkward.
In a blink of an eye, night was approaching.
“Teacher Lu, the ones in the living room and bedroom are installed. We’ll come back tomorrow morning to mic you up and pick you up.” The staff members told Lu Yiran and then left.
After returning to the bedroom, Lu Yiran felt a lack of security. After asking the staff, she found a piece of cloth and covered the camera.
“Perfect.”
Lu Yiran went to the kitchen, watched a video tutorial, and was about to start cooking when the doorbell rang.
Lu Yiran wiped the water off her hands and opened the door.
“Do you have enough ingredients at home?” Wen Shiyan asked Lu Yiran as soon as she walked in.
Lu Yiran nodded.
Wen Shiyan sat on the sofa, waiting for Lu Yiran. Time passed minute by minute, and Wen Shiyan was starting to worry slightly about the situation in the kitchen.
Finally, unable to bear it any longer, Wen Shiyan walked into the kitchen, and while Lu Yiran was completely bewildered, she untied the apron from Lu Yiran and put it on herself. “You go to the living room. I’ll cook.”
Wen Shiyan only felt that Lu Yiran was taking too long and wanted to finish the meal quickly, which is why she took matters into her own hands. It was absolutely not because she was afraid Lu Yiran would make something inedible.
Lu Yiran sat at the dining table, looking at the three dishes and one soup, not knowing what had happened.
“Eat.” Wen Shiyan said, placing the chopsticks in Lu Yiran’s hand. Only then did Lu Yiran snap out of her dazed state.
She couldn’t believe it. Given Wen Shiyan’s family background and busy schedule, Lu Yiran assumed Wen Shiyan wouldn’t know how to cook. Who knew she could, and was better at it than her!
After eating the food Wen Shiyan made, Lu Yiran decided to be her permanent coat-tail rider.
At the door, Wen Shiyan said: “Get some rest. I’ll come over for you tomorrow morning.”
“Will it be okay for Teacher Wen to come over and pick me up?” Lu Yiran asked, worried.
Wen Shiyan knew Lu Yiran was a bit sensitive after going through some things, so she reassured her: “It’s fine.” Hearing Wen Shiyan’s words, Lu Yiran relaxed.
This was Lu Yiran’s first time filming a variety show, and the first day was going to be presented to the audience live. She was so nervous she couldn’t fall asleep for a long time, only finally drifting off when she couldn’t hold on any longer.
Wen Shiyan woke up very early. It was the first time fans saw Wen Shiyan immediately after waking up, and the live stream room erupted into chaos.
【My Wife is Mine: Aah, ah, ah, oh my god!】
【Maintain High-Cold Persona: The person above is hurting my eyes with noise.】
When the alarm rang, Lu Yiran jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom to wash her face.
Afterward, she uncovered the camera she had draped the cloth over.
“Hello everyone, I’m Lu Yiran.” Lu Yiran greeted the camera.
【Eating Dates Will Cure All: Pure passerby, this is Lu Yiran, right? Her bare face is actually so pretty】
【Big Smartie: I think so too! Tell her to keep this bare-faced look from now on!】
【Ultimate Smartie: Did you forget what she did before?】
On the other side, Wen Shiyan finished washing up and organizing herself, then left her apartment.
【Yes Yes Yes: Where is Teacher Wen going?】
【Koukou: Whose door is Wen Shiyan knocking on?】
Hearing the movement outside the door, Lu Yiran went to open it for Wen Shiyan.
“Teacher Wen is here.” Lu Yiran tried her best to appear a little closer to Wen Shiyan.
“Mhm. Haven’t had breakfast yet, right?” Wen Shiyan said, walking into the kitchen.
【Jealousy Makes People Unrecognizable: Why does Lu Yiran live across from Wen Shiyan’s house! I’m jealous!】
“You don’t need to trouble yourself, Teacher Wen. I can just eat it with lunch later.”
Wen Shiyan didn’t listen to Lu Yiran. She took bread and jam out of Lu Yiran’s refrigerator and warmed up a glass of milk for her.
“Just make do with this. There’s only this in the fridge.” Wen Shiyan sat across from Lu Yiran, watching her.
The audience in the live stream room were unrecognizable with jealousy seeing Wen Shiyan warming milk for Lu Yiran.
Hearing Wen Shiyan’s words, Lu Yiran nearly had “Isn’t this my house?” written on her face. In the end, under great pressure, she finished the breakfast Wen Shiyan had prepared for her.
Lu Yiran could already imagine the consequences for her once this segment aired.
