The Female Lead Keeps Breaking Her Own Persona - Chapter 15
“It’s nothing.” She must have remembered incorrectly. She had no previous interaction with Qu Anruo, so how could Qu Anruo’s smile seem familiar?
To get rid of the bad luck from seeing Su Haodang and to celebrate moving into the new house, they did not eat at home for lunch. Instead, they followed Qu Anruo to a restaurant.
“Over here!” Fang Yumeng waved to them after seeing them.
Fang Yumeng extended her hand to Gu Jingyun and said, “Hello, I’m Fang Yumeng, Ruoruo’s best friend.”
“I’m Gu Jingyun.” Gu Jingyun shook her hand lightly before letting go.
“And this is…” Fang Yumeng looked at Gu Jinyi as she spoke.
Upon noticing an outsider, Gu Jinyi’s expression was cold as she said, “Gu Jinyi, Gu Jingyun’s younger sister.”
Fang Yumeng sized up Gu Jingyun and Gu Jinyi. The sisters didn’t look entirely dissimilar, but their temperaments felt a bit different.
“I’m starving.” Qu Anruo dragged Gu Jingyun to sit down in the private room and said.
“It’ll be ready soon.” Seeing Qu Anruo return to normal, Fang Yumeng was also genuinely happy for her.
After the food was served, a phone call came in.
“President Qu, does your company have someone named Gu Jingyun?” Director Bai said, a smile that he couldn’t suppress on his face.
【It’s that Director Bai.】 666 quickly reminded Qu Anruo when she didn’t react upon hearing Director Bai’s voice.
“Director Bai, is there something I can help you with?” Qu Anruo gestured to the others and took her phone to the restroom.
“I’d like Gu Jingyun to audition for my new movie. I’ll trouble President Qu to relay the message.” After Director Bai finished speaking, he added Qu Anruo on WeChat and left her contact information.
Qu Anruo returned to the private room and said mysteriously, “I have some good news.”
“What good news?” Hearing Qu Anruo’s words, Fang Yumeng also put down her chopsticks out of curiosity. Gu Jinyi also looked at Qu Anruo.
“Director Bai contacted me.”
“Director Bai, is it that Director Bai?” Gu Jingyun suddenly spoke up. Among the many famous directors, only one had the surname Bai. Could it really be her?
“That’s right, it’s that Director Bai. She offered my sister an audition opportunity for her new movie.” Qu Anruo spoke happily. Gu Jingyun being chosen made her happier than if she had suddenly received a windfall herself.
Gu Jingyun looked at Qu Anruo in disbelief.
“Let’s eat first. After we finish, we’ll go to the company.” Qu Anruo was so excited she couldn’t suppress the pounding in her heart, a joyful smile blooming on her flushed face.
Qu Anruo ate the food at the fastest speed she had ever used, which even made Fang Yumeng gasp. Normally, Qu Anruo ate slowly and deliberately; this was the first time she had seen her eat so fast.
“Let’s go.” Gu Jingyun wiped the moisture from her mouth and said, looking at the impatient Qu Anruo.
Fang Yumeng willingly acted as the driver for the three of them and drove them to the company.
“I’m not coming up. Bye.” Fang Yumeng coolly put on her sunglasses, waved goodbye to the others, and drove away.
Qu Anruo grabbed Gu Jingyun and said, “Let’s go find Wang Chu.” Gu Jinyi, who felt ignored on the side, chirped to get attention.
Remembering that Gu Jinyi was still carrying her school bag, Qu Anruo smiled naughtily and said, “Oh, right. Jinyi, go to my office to do your homework and wait for us. I’ve even prepared a gift for you on the desk.”
Gu Jinyi felt a bit uneasy looking at Qu Anruo’s mischievous smile, but Secretary Zhang had already appeared and was leading her to Qu Anruo’s office. She walked over to the desk, where a large box was sitting. Gu Jinyi picked it up and weighed it in her hand; it was quite heavy.
She untied the ribbon on the box and froze when she saw what was inside. She closed the lid and opened it again. Inside were complete practice test papers for the ninth grade. She liked studying, yes, but who sends practice test papers as a gift! Qu Anruo was truly up to no good!
Looking at Qu Anruo, who was secretly laughing, Gu Jingyun asked curiously, “Anruo, why are you so happy?”
“Nothing, I just gave Gu Jinyi a gift she’ll absolutely love.” Qu Anruo said, with her hands clasped behind her back and a playful smile on her lips.
The two found Wang Chu and explained the situation. Wang Chu looked at them in disbelief. Someone as unique as Director Bai personally sought them out; it seemed this audition was a sure thing.
“Congratulations to Jingyun in advance.” Wang Chu stood up and said.
“This is the audition material Director Bai sent me. I’ll forward it to you so you can take a look first. If you don’t understand anything, you can ask Wang Chu.” Qu Anruo sent the file Director Bai had given her to Gu Jingyun. Although Wang Chu was an agent, she had also been a very popular actress before she retired to work behind the scenes as an agent for some unknown reason. Qu Anruo herself only managed to hire Wang Chu through connections.
“Yes, if there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask me.” Wang Chu was also very optimistic about Gu Jingyun. Although she didn’t know the exact relationship between her boss and Gu Jingyun, she valued Gu Jingyun’s talent and was very happy to guide her.
“Thank you.” Seeing the two of them care so much about her, Gu Jingyun was truly grateful to Qu Anruo. If it weren’t for Qu Anruo, she didn’t know how long she would have to wait on her own to get a role like this.
【Host! Su Haoyan is near the company!】 666 immediately told Qu Anruo after detecting Su Haoyan’s whereabouts.
“I need to step out for a moment. Sister, please stay here and read the script.” Qu Anruo grabbed her bag and hurriedly left. Gu Jingyun and Wang Chu, meanwhile, discussed the script together.
After going downstairs, Qu Anruo got into the car and listened to 666 giving her Su Haoyan’s location.
【Another 300 meters to the right, and you’ll be there.】 666 said nervously, watching the red dot in the system space move quickly. Actually, it felt quite useless. Some of its special features were ineffective against the world’s main characters. For example, it couldn’t track Su Haodang or Gu Jingyun, and these functions could only be used on supporting characters or ordinary people.
【Good job, 666.】 After seeing the man who looked very much like Su Haodang, Qu Anruo knew she hadn’t found the wrong person. She got out of the car and stopped Su Haoyan.
“Who are you!” The bodyguard alertly blocked Su Haoyan, looking at Qu Anruo who had suddenly popped out.
Seeing Qu Anruo, Su Haoyan’s lips curved into a sinister smile, his low, hoarse voice carrying a hint of sickness. “Miss Qu?”
Looking at Su Haoyan, Qu Anruo shivered. Why did Su Haoyan look like this, with dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn’t slept for a long time?
Su Haoyan was not like his arrogant and brainless older brother; he was patient as he said, “Miss Qu, are you looking for me for something?”
“Let’s talk somewhere private.” Qu Anruo glanced at the bodyguards beside him. These must have been assigned to Su Haoyan by the Su family, so they couldn’t be trusted.
Su Haoyan dismissed his bodyguards, and the two sat down in a nearby shop. “Do you want to take over the Su family?” Qu Anruo got straight to the point.
Su Haoyan’s mind went blank for a moment, then he pretended to be naive, looking at Qu Anruo and saying, “That belongs to my brother.”
Qu Anruo played with her fingers indifferently and said, “But you are only a few years apart, and your ability is in no way inferior to Su Haodang’s. Why must he be the heir of the Su family?”
Struck by the thought in his heart, Su Haoyan’s body trembled. He tightly gripped the edge of the table and stood up, his eyes staring coldly at Qu Anruo. Why? He and Su Haodang were only a few years apart, and he was smarter and more outstanding, so why did their parents still favor him the most? His eyes were bloodshot, and he slammed his hand on the table, venting his resentment towards the Su family’s unfairness.
【Host, why don’t we leave? Is this person a lunatic?】 666 was very worried about Qu Anruo, looking at the obviously abnormal Su Haodang.
【Wait a little longer.】 Qu Anruo did not look at Su Haodang. She picked up the cup on the table and took a sip of water to moisten her throat.
Realizing his lapse in composure, Su Haoyan tugged at his collar and calmly sat back down. “I apologize, Miss Qu. I will give you a reply in a few days.” Hearing Su Haoyan’s words, Qu Anruo paid for her drink and left. Having gotten this sentence from Su Haoyan, she considered it a success, and Qu Anruo breathed a sigh of relief.
Sitting in the car, Qu Anruo felt as if she had escaped from hell. She sat there trying to compose herself. Both of these brothers were somewhat abnormal.
Back at the company, Qu Anruo quickly went into the air-conditioned room to cool off.
“Why are you sweating so much?” Gu Jingyun looked at the back of Qu Anruo’s clothes, which were slightly soaked. She hadn’t seen Qu Anruo this hot even on the previous very hot days.
“It’s nothing, I’m going to wash up.” Returning to the rest area in the office, Qu Anruo found a change of clothes and went into the shower room.
【666, are you there?】 Qu Anruo was a little bored, so she called out to 666.
【I’m here, I’m here, what is it?】 666 put down the potato chips in its hand when it heard Qu Anruo’s voice.
666 looked at the heap of mosaics in front of it and closed its sensory system to avoid seeing anything unpleasant. 【Nothing, I just wanted to call you.】 Qu Anruo felt that she and 666 were more like family. After all, 666 was the only one who knew her identity. She only felt that everything was not a dream when 666 was around.
Seeing that Qu Anruo was fine, 666 picked up the unfinished potato chips and continued eating.
The water flowed down her body, and Qu Anruo’s slender hand was pressed against the wall. The water dripped down to the floor. Her hands had clearly defined, long bones, the knuckles slightly bent, appearing gentle and delicate. When the water had rinsed her body thoroughly, Qu Anruo pulled out a bath towel and wrapped herself up. Going out, she shook the water from the ends of her hair.
After getting dressed and going out, Qu Anruo found Gu Jingyun and Gu Jinyi sitting on the sofa looking at her. She asked strangely, “Sister, what are you doing?”
“Jinyi wants to thank you for buying her study materials.” Gu Jingyun finished speaking and patted Gu Jinyi, prompting her to thank Qu Anruo.
Gu Jinyi inhaled and said, “Thank you.” She said it extremely reluctantly, which even Gu Jingyun could see.
“It seems Jinyi really likes it.” Gu Jingyun smiled harmoniously as she looked at Gu Jinyi. Gu Jinyi, threatened by Gu Jingyun, quickly nodded her head.
“That’s great! If Jinyi likes it, I’ll buy more for you next time.” Qu Anruo also added a subtle jab.
Looking at Qu Anruo’s “innocent” face, Gu Jinyi couldn’t tell if she was pretending or serious.
