The Female Lead is Quite Unusual - Episode 39
Wang Jiang and the others had devised a new plan.
The anniversary of Bai Yin’s mother, Li Ruyue’s death, was approaching. Every year on this day, Bai Yin would visit the cemetery to pay her respects.
The cemetery was located in the suburbs, and with the frost and snow season just around the corner, it was all too common for vehicles to break down in such weather.
Bai Yin rarely went out, so causing an “accident” while she was on her way to the cemetery was their only opportunity during this period.
“Lin Wan, even if it’s just for the sake of the life-saving favor I once did for you, you wouldn’t just abandon me, right?” Wang Jiang had noticed Lin Wan’s cold attitude toward him lately, a stark contrast to how she used to treat him. Left with no other choice, he resorted to invoking the so-called “life-saving favor” to emotionally manipulate her over the phone.
“My family invested a lot of money in that piece of land. Who would’ve thought we’d be so unlucky? The backer of that company suddenly fell from power, and the company’s director fled the country with the funds. Now, with the year-end audit approaching, if the employees find out we’ve poured money into this failing project and are already in the red, my family is absolutely finished.”
Wang Jiang complained incessantly over the phone.
It turned out that Wang Jiang had followed Bai Jian in investing in a certain company. The director of that company was a relative of a high-ranking official in the city, who had confidently claimed to have insider information that a certain area in the west of the city would be demolished to build a supermarket. Not only did the Bai family invest, but Shen Shen’s family and Wang Jiang’s family also poured significant funds into the project.
However, just a few days ago, the company’s backer was reported with solid evidence and had since been imprisoned. Seeing the situation turn sour, the company’s director absconded abroad with the money, leaving the three families to deal with the mess.
Shen Shen was relatively fine; his companies were thriving, and many were eager to partner with him. Although the loss was substantial, he still had a chance to recover.
But Bai Jian and Wang Jiang’s families weren’t as fortunate. The real estate market had been sluggish in recent years, and once the news got out, they would likely be ruined.
At such a critical time, Li Pei once again set her sights on Bai Yin.
After all, Bai Yin’s pharmaceutical company was flourishing. By taking control of it, they would have the means to survive the crisis.
“I’ve already arranged for someone,” Wang Jiang laid out their plan in detail. “A truck driver whose daughter is seriously ill and urgently needs treatment. I gave him a million, and he’s willing to help us send Bai Yin to her grave. All you need to do is tell us Bai Yin’s route. After all, there are three roads to the cemetery.”
“Don’t worry, even if Bai Yin manages to avoid the accident, Aunt Li has other arrangements.”
Lin Wan listened to Wang Jiang’s words with trepidation, a cold sweat breaking out on her back.
“I understand. I’m not an ungrateful person. Can you tell me exactly what I need to do that day?”
Her mind raced as she probed for details of Wang Jiang’s plan while secretly resolving to prevent Bai Yin from going to the cemetery.
However, Li Pei was cunning and calculating. Even Wang Jiang didn’t know the full extent of the plan; he only shared what he knew with Bai Yin.
Lin Wan secretly recorded the conversation.
After hanging up the phone, Lin Wan bit her lower lip tightly.
If Li Pei hadn’t intended to harm Bai Yin, Lin Wan would probably have been overjoyed at this moment: the market wouldn’t be demolished, meaning it wouldn’t affect her grandmother’s customer flow. Her grandmother’s business would remain secure.
But now, Li Pei and the others were already cornered and desperate. Bai Yin’s current situation was extremely perilous. As the Bai family’s financial crisis worsened, Li Pei would likely keep trying to eliminate Bai Yin.
For a moment, Lin Wan even considered impulsively taking Bai Yin abroad, fleeing to a place where no one knew them, to avoid the impending danger.
Lin Wan couldn’t help but mull over the possibility of taking Bai Yin overseas again.
Although Bai Yin didn’t seem willing to go abroad now, upon careful thought, Lin Wan realized there might still be a way.
Bai Yin’s reluctance stemmed from past disappointments and her aversion to long journeys. But if Lin Wan could bring specialists back to treat Bai Yin and achieve some results, then gradually shift the treatment location abroad, Bai Yin would likely agree.
However, everything needed to be approached step by step. The most urgent matter was to overcome the current crisis.
Lin Wan secretly resolved. Once they got through this, she would go abroad as soon as possible to seek medical help for Bai Yin.
With a heavy heart, Lin Wan went to Bai Yin’s room.
Bai Yin was once again staring at her phone.
Her face was tense, as if she were studying some serious topic, looking incredibly focused.
Noticing Lin Wan’s entrance, Bai Yin set her phone aside.
When her gaze met Lin Wan’s, that familiar, tide-like smile surfaced in Bai Yin’s eyes, stirring Lin Wan’s heart.
Unlike her usual casual self, Bai Yin had tied up her hair, revealing her flawless profile. Her pajamas were no longer the relaxed style she usually wore; instead, she had on a silk robe that cinched at the waist and subtly accentuated the curve of her chest.
But Lin Wan was too anxious to pay attention to Bai Yin’s appearance. She picked up a book and began to read aloud.
Lin Wan tried hard to act normal, but she still stumbled over several passages.
“Wanwan, you skipped another part,” Bai Yin sighed softly when Lin Wan made another mistake. She opened her eyes, leaned closer, and took Lin Wan’s hand. “What’s wrong with you today? Is something on your mind?”
“No, I’m just a little tired,” Lin Wan replied, forcing herself to focus. She looked at Bai Yin and managed a smile, only then noticing how exceptionally beautiful Bai Yin looked tonight. She seemed to have groomed her eyebrows and done some skincare—her already delicate skin appeared even more radiant.
Bai Yin’s eyes flickered, but she didn’t press further. Instead, she patted the empty space beside her on the bed and said with a smile, “If you’re tired, come lie down.”
Lin Wan truly had no mood for reading anymore. Sighing inwardly, she closed the book and climbed into bed.
Bai Yin turned off the main light, leaving only the small bedside lamp on as usual.
Unlike the stiffness of their earlier interactions, perhaps because they had shared the bed multiple times or because she wanted to comfort the visibly troubled Lin Wan, Bai Yin proactively reached for Lin Wan’s hand under the covers. Facing Lin Wan, she whispered, “Wanwan, I’m here for you. Don’t worry.”
Bai Yin’s face was very close to Lin Wan’s, their breaths mingling. It seemed that with just a slight lean, she could kiss Lin Wan’s cheek.
It was an incredibly intimate distance.
While Bai Yin spoke gently, her gaze lingered on Lin Wan’s crimson lips, pausing for a moment before she lowered her eyes.
Listening to Bai Yin’s soft, gentle words, Lin Wan felt a pang of sourness in her heart. She squeezed Bai Yin’s hand in return and couldn’t help but pull her into an embrace.
“I feel the same, Yin Yin. I will protect you well and never let you face any harm. ”
Lin Wan had only acted on impulse when she hugged Bai Yin, but as she held her, she noticed something unusual: Bai Yin usually wore comfortable, casual cotton or linen clothes, but now it seemed she was dressed in silk pajamas. The fabric felt incredibly smooth under Lin Wan’s touch!
For a moment, Lin Wan even had the illusion that she was touching Bai Yin’s bare skin.
Lin Wan felt intensely uncomfortable, her arms around Bai Yin seeming to burn with heat.
But she couldn’t push Bai Yin away in this situation. It would seem far too deliberate.
Lin Wan could only stiffen, not daring to move a muscle, counting the seconds in her head and planning to let go when she reached thirty.
Unexpectedly, the moment her arms wrapped around Bai Yin, Bai Yin hugged her back, nestling into her embrace and mimicking Lin Wan’s usual comforting gestures by patting her shoulder gently. “Wanwan, go to sleep,” Bai Yin murmured.
Lin Wan understood Bai Yin’s good intentions. She was trying to comfort her and ease her worries.
But the sensation of the silk against her skin was so vivid, and Bai Yin’s body heat seemed to seep through the fabric.
Lin Wan didn’t dare move, nor could she push Bai Yin away. She could only close her eyes and pretend to sleep, planning to carefully extricate herself once Bai Yin was asleep.
However, Lin Wan had been exhausted from a long day. Waking up early for photography and buying an electric scooter. The moment she closed her eyes, she unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
Under the dim glow of the lamp, Bai Yin stared intently at Lin Wan’s sleeping face.
Her eyes darkened, her lips pressed together as she took a deep breath. Unable to restrain herself, she leaned in and kissed Lin Wan’s lips.
They were as soft and wonderful as she had imagined.
In her sleep, Lin Wan mumbled something unintelligible.
Bai Yin quickly pulled back, watching Lin Wan’s reaction. When Lin Wan showed no further response, Bai Yin relaxed and leaned in again, pulling Lin Wan entirely into her embrace. Her eyes flickered as she loosened her own collar.
Over the past few days, seeing Lin Wan so absorbed in photography had filled Bai Yin with resentment especially when Lin Wan chatted animatedly with others but said nothing to her. It left her feeling stifled.
And when she learned that Lin Wan had been taking photos with a male college student and seemed to get along exceptionally well with him, her resentment reached its peak.
It was then she realized she didn’t want Lin Wan to control her emotions, but in her moment of neglect, someone else had drawn close to Lin Wan.
So, she couldn’t help but ask Lin Wan to stay and sleep with her again.
Her initial plan was just to make Lin Wan oversleep and miss her appointment with that male student, but she hadn’t expected Lin Wan to actually fall asleep or that she herself would drift off and even have a dream.
In the dream, Lin Wan once again brought water to wash her feet, but this time Bai Yin didn’t avert her gaze. Instead, her foot trailed up along Lin Wan’s body, slipping beneath her clothes.
What followed was a whirl of surreal, intense images. Just recalling the dream made Bai Yin’s blood race.
She had actually woken up earlier than Lin Wan that morning, but the dream had left her so shaken she couldn’t face Lin Wan and pretended to be asleep.
Only after Lin Wan had left did she finally open her eyes.
She was looking up information on her phone when it suddenly dawned on her. All the anxiety and possessiveness she had felt toward Lin Wan lately now had an explanation.
So, this is what liking someone feels like!
Bai Yin had never thought she would fall for anyone, but realizing that the person she liked was Lin Wan, she felt no resistance at all. In fact, the signs had been there all along.
Just then, Butler Zhao called, praising how well-matched Lin Wan and that guy seemed.
How could Bai Yin sit still after that? She had no choice but to resort to a pity ploy to trick Lin Wan into coming back.
She had never been one to hesitate when making decisions. Once she realized her feelings, it felt like a weight had been lifted from her chest.
But emotions are not something one can control. At the moment, Lin Wan seemed to only see her as a good friend.
How could she let Lin Wan remain unaffected?
Bai Yin made up her mind right then: she needed to shift Lin Wan’s perception. Even if she couldn’t win Lin Wan’s heart right away, Lin Wan was very fond of her appearance. She would use her looks to tempt her first, then take it slow. There had to be a way to captivate Lin Wan.
