The Female Lead is Quite Unusual - Episode 32
The last two sentences sounded very familiar.
After a moment’s thought, it seemed they were lines from the TV drama Bai Yin had been watching yesterday.
Despite her overwhelming guilt, Lin Wan nearly burst out laughing when she heard Bai Yin say this, forcing herself to hold it back.
Lin Wan felt she was beyond redemption.
Because she found Bai Yin’s attempt at threatening words utterly adorable.
It was like watching a tiny kitten let out a fierce “meow” and bare its little claws. Not at all annoying, but instead making people want to laugh and even tease the kitten a little.
That was exactly how Lin Wan felt at that moment.
Bai Yin spoke as if she meant it, and if Lin Wan hadn’t been watching the show with her, she might have been fooled.
Bai Yin’s acting skills were truly impressive.
Lin Wan sighed inwardly and softly replied, “Mm,” suppressing the urge to tease Bai Yin further and sincerely apologizing, “You can take revenge however you want. I’ll accept whatever punishment you give me without a word of complaint.”
Bai Yin narrowed her eyes and glanced at her, seemingly lost in thought, her gaze drifting. After responding with a noncommittal “Mm,” she turned away and closed her eyes.
Bai Yin closed her eyes as if dozing off. Remembering that Bai Yin hadn’t slept well the night before, Lin Wan didn’t want to disturb her. After tucking Bai Yin in with a blanket, she quietly sat to the side, put on her headphones, and started watching an online class.
She recalled their earlier conversation. Bai Yin didn’t seem to mind having her photo taken, but Lin Wan’s current photography skills couldn’t do justice to Bai Yin’s beauty. Feeling the pressure, Lin Wan resolved to master photo editing so she could take stunning pictures and videos of Bai Yin in the future.
Time flew by, and soon they arrived at Bai Yin’s villa.
Bai Yin had kept her eyes closed the entire ride, and Lin Wan couldn’t tell if she was actually asleep, not daring to make a sound and disturb her.
After the car stopped, Lin Wan hesitated about whether to wake Bai Yin, but as if sensing it, Bai Yin opened her eyes the moment the car came to a halt.
Relieved, Lin Wan got out first and reached in to carry Bai Yin out of the car.
As she held Bai Yin, Bai Yin lowered her eyes again but didn’t wrap her arms around Lin Wan’s neck as she had before. Instead, she pursed her lips and turned her face away.
The delicate young lady was probably still sulking. Lin Wan sighed inwardly, planning to coax her slowly later, and showed no outward reaction.
Back in the room, Lin Wan first went to Butler Zhao’s office to hear about her upcoming duties.
Her responsibilities hadn’t changed much from before, mainly keeping Bai Yin company.
But for some reason, Butler Zhao was much friendlier toward Lin Wan than usual, and the way he looked at her had become rather peculiar.
“Lin Wan, no need to rush back to work. The young lady has some matters to attend to. Take a rest first! You’ve been through a lot lately.”
As he spoke, Butler Zhao handed Lin Wan a bottle of medicinal oil.
Lin Wan checked the label. It was an expensive type known for its remarkable effects on treating external injuries. She wasn’t sure why Butler Zhao had given it to her.
Was he worried Bai Yin might fall and kept it on hand just in case?
Lin Wan accepted the oil, feeling a bit uneasy inside.
After taking it, she returned to her room. Coincidentally, the new camera she had ordered had just arrived. Lin Wan busied herself familiarizing herself with the equipment, took another online photography class, and experimented with some photo editing software. Before she knew it, evening had arrived.
Before going to bed, Lin Wan felt like something was missing and realized she had forgotten to exchange goodnights with Bai Yin and hadn’t gone to read to her.
She had just promised Bai Yin to help her treat her sleep disorder.
But it was already 11 p.m., and Bai Yin would usually be asleep by this time.
After a moment’s thought, Lin Wan tentatively sent a “tucking in the blanket” emoji.
She stared at her phone for five minutes, but Bai Yin didn’t reply. Assuming Bai Yin was already asleep, Lin Wan felt reassured and drifted off to sleep peacefully.
The next morning, Lin Wan checked her phone and saw that Bai Yin still hadn’t responded.
Lin Wan didn’t think much of it and, as usual, waited outside Bai Yin’s room.
It was already the winter solstice, and Lin Wan had long planned their schedule: she would take Bai Yin to make dumplings and distribute them to everyone in the villa.
That day, Dr. Wang’s examination took much longer than usual.
When he left, he was dragging a large box covered with a black cloth.
Lin Wan wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she thought she saw the box move.
Her eyes widened, but before she could say anything, Butler Zhao, who was following behind, explained, “One of the instruments used to examine the young lady is broken. Dr. Wang is taking it back to the manufacturer for repairs.”
Since Butler Zhao said so, Lin Wan stopped questioning it and soon forgot about the matter.
She entered Bai Yin’s bedroom just as Bai Yin emerged from the passage behind the bookshelf.
“Yin Yin,” Lin Wan immediately raised her voice and called out, “Do you want to make dumplings together today?”
She expected Bai Yin to agree, as Bai Yin hadn’t refused any of her suggestions lately.
But this time, Bai Yin avoided her gaze and pursed her lips. “I don’t want to.”
Lin Wan’s smile froze; she hadn’t expected Bai Yin to refuse.
She studied Bai Yin’s expression: Bai Yin kept her head slightly lowered, not looking at her, and continued pushing her wheelchair forward.
Lin Wan pressed her lips together.
Bai Yin was wearing a white dress that day, her long hair flowing freely, returning to her usual style.
This Bai Yin looked pure and clean, untouched by the mundane world, like a fairy who had grown up drinking dew.
Asking such a beautiful girl to make dumplings. The image really didn’t suit Bai Yin’s elegance.
Moreover, most dumpling fillings were meat-based, and someone as fastidious as Bai Yin probably wouldn’t want to handle them.
It was better for her to refuse. Rather than seeing Bai Yin force herself, Lin Wan preferred to see her confidently and decisively say no.
“I understand!”
With that thought, Lin Wan didn’t press further. She didn’t seem at all disheartened by the rejection, her smile unchanged as she sat beside Bai Yin and started reading an economics-related book.
Even though Bai Yin had refused to make dumplings, since it was the winter solstice, some traditions still had to be observed.
If Bai Yin didn’t want meat fillings, Lin Wan would find a way to make dumplings with other fillings for her; like corn or egg fillings.
Maybe Bai Yin would like them.
Holding onto this idea, Lin Wan couldn’t focus on her book afterward. After all, preparing the fillings would take time, and getting the flavors just right would require effort.
So, shortly after 10 a.m., Lin Wan looked up at Bai Yin and said, “Yin Yin, may I go to the kitchen to help Sister Zhang?”
Bai Yin didn’t look up, only letting out a soft “Mm” in response.
It wasn’t until Lin Wan had left the room that Bai Yin finally raised her head, her gaze lingering on Lin Wan’s retreating figure as she pressed her lips together slightly.
Was she throwing a tantrum? Unable to stand being around me? Or did she simply not care about my feelings at all.
Bai Yin pondered carefully, her eyes darkening slightly.
At the same time Lin Wan had gone to sleep the previous night, in the room opposite hers, Bai Yin stared at the chat window—typing, then deleting, ultimately sending nothing. She bit her lip and tossed her phone aside.
Bai Yin had always known that Lin Wan was special to her.
The very reason Lin Wan had managed to live safely until now was because of that special place she held in Bai Yin’s heart.
Even though Lin Wan was special, Bai Yin had originally intended to keep her as nothing more than a pet, without investing too much emotional energy.
In her mind, as a pet, Lin Wan only needed to be docile and obedient, to amuse her, to stay by her side when she was feeling down. In return, Bai Yin wouldn’t hesitate to make certain concessions, gradually improving Lin Wan’s quality of life.
But lately, everything seemed to be spiraling out of control.
Even though everything between her and Lin Wan had always been dictated by her own pace, Bai Yin found herself growing increasingly dissatisfied.
She didn’t know when it started, but a strange, violent impulse began to stir within her.
At first, this feeling was subtle. She merely wanted to keep Lin Wan locked by her side. But recently, these emotions had grown increasingly frenzied.
When Lin Wan was near, Bai Yin couldn’t help but stare at her, feeling that Lin Wan was growing more and more beautiful.
Sometimes, she found Lin Wan’s lips irresistibly alluring and wanted to taste them. Other times, she suddenly felt the urge to grip Lin Wan’s waist. More often than not, she wanted to make Lin Wan cry. She increasingly longed for physical contact with Lin Wan, and at times, she even felt a desperate desire to tear Lin Wan apart and merge her into her own flesh and blood.
This was an entirely unfamiliar state of mind for Bai Yin.
It didn’t suit her style. She had always preferred to remain behind the scenes, strategizing and controlling situations from a distance. She wasn’t used to such direct, sudden impulses.
She didn’t know what was happening to her, but this urge to make Lin Wan cry grew stronger with each passing day. Yet, her rational mind warned her that if she acted on it, Lin Wan would likely see her true nature and avoid her like the plague.
On one hand, she indulged her desires, coaxing Lin Wan to sleep beside her. On the surface, it seemed as though she was in complete control, holding all the advantages. But only she knew that from the moment these thoughts emerged, she had already begun to lose ground.
Her attention toward Lin Wan had intensified, her gaze drifting toward her involuntarily, wanting Lin Wan to always have eyes only for her.
She even found it unbearable when Lin Wan didn’t reply to her messages for half a day, growing so restless that she went directly to Lin Wan’s home.
For the Bai Yin of the past, this would have been absolutely unthinkable.
Especially when she was at Lin Wan’s home. For some reason, even though they shared the same physical anatomy, the sight of certain parts of Lin Wan’s body would excite and embarrass her to the point of trembling. Her usually sharp mind would go blank, overwhelmed by an intense desire to touch Lin Wan.
This was so unlike her!
Bai Yin wanted to reclaim the self-control she had always prided herself on.
So she decided to temporarily distance herself from Lin Wan, to carefully reflect on what was happening to her.
Perhaps because she had been spending so much time with Lin Wan recently, Lin Wan had become such a significant disturbance to her.
Thus, she rejected Lin Wan’s suggestion to make dumplings together and decided to put some distance between them for the time being.
Lin Wan didn’t force her, nor did she even ask a single follow-up question, and simply went to the kitchen by herself.
Even though everything unfolded exactly as she had anticipated, Bai Yin found that she didn’t feel the slightest bit happy. Instead, a new wave of dissatisfaction began to stir within her.
Why was Lin Wan’s mood so calm?
Her gaze darkened as she watched Lin Wan’s back disappear around the corner, and a surge of intense resentment welled up inside her.
She was so out of control, unable to sleep at night, so why could Lin Wan remain so detached and unaffected?
Bai Yin narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips slightly.
