The Female Lead Is A Supporting Female Character - Chapter 4
Ming Yuemian’s sudden outburst derailed everyone’s plans. It cut right through Ming Ye’s tactful eviction notice, Fu Shuang’s biting retort, and the plea Feng Cheng had been preparing.
The three of them fell into a collective silence, and simultaneously, the same thought crossed their minds.
She must have been possessed, right?
In Ming Ye’s memory, his daughter had always been pampered and arrogant. Aside from himself and Feng Cheng, she barely looked at anyone else in the sect, let alone offered to share a bed with them.
Feng Cheng was equally dumbfounded. He had always known his junior sister harbored feelings for him, she had never given a kind look to any woman he brought back from outside. Before returning to the mountain, he had even worried about how to explain things to her.
But now… why was this so different from what he had imagined?
Ming Yuemian looked up to see the three people in front of her observing her with complex, eerie expressions, as if she were some kind of monster.
“…Cough.”
She gave a light cough, realizing she had gone OOC (Out of Character).
It was indeed a bit reckless, but she just couldn’t help herself! She knew she would eventually break character, she just didn’t expect it to happen this early.
Well, if I’m going to go OOC sooner or later, I might as well let them get used to it now, she thought. Even if my personality shifts drastically, they can only suspect me; they can’t find any real proof. No big deal.
Once she rationalized it, her mind settled.
Ming Yuemian knew that even if she hadn’t spoken up, Fu Shuang would have eventually stayed in the original novel, Ming Ye ultimately relented after Feng Cheng’s repeated begging.
But she couldn’t stand to see her “precious daughter” suffer. In the original text, Fu Shuang endured far too much grievance because of Feng Cheng. Now that she was here, as long as she breathed, she wouldn’t let Fu Shuang be treated that way.
“This…” Ming Ye paused for a moment before saying, “Mianmian, can you really sleep well sharing a bed with someone else?” He thought about it and felt it wasn’t feasible. “Perhaps I should instruct the disciples’ quarters to clear out a spare room…”
Ming Yuemian wailed inwardly: Why is this “cheap dad” of mine trying to ruin my good thing? Tsk, he’s trying to help, but he’s just making it worse!
“No need!” she immediately interrupted, raising her voice. “I feel a great affinity for this elder sister. It was like kindred spirits at first sight. I want to sleep with her. Dad…”
Ming Yuemian drawled out her words provocatively, “Can I? Please?”
“Fine.” Ming Ye had always lacked a bottom line when it came to his only daughter, let alone such a small request. Though he felt something was off and feared his darling daughter might be inconvenienced, he gave in since Ming Yuemian was so insistent.
Since Fu Shuang was to stay in Ming Yuemian’s room, her presence was settled. Feng Cheng wanted to say a few more words to her, but Ming Yuemian promptly kicked him out.
“I’m tired, I feel a bit unwell and want to rest. You all should head back now.”
“Unwell?” Feng Cheng was pushed to the doorway. Hearing this, he turned back with a worried look. “Junior Sister, is your chest hurting again?”
Ming Yuemian gave a dismissive “Mm-hmm” and slammed the door shut with a loud thud.
In the original novel, Ming Yuemian’s heart ailment was a fact accepted by everyone, no one knew it was a lie. Feng Cheng eventually carved out half of Fu Shuang’s heart to treat that non-existent illness, never discovering the truth until the very end.
Tsk.
Ming Yuemian couldn’t explain this away yet, she had to stay loyal to the original plot’s settings for now. However, she would absolutely never allow Feng Cheng to cut out Fu Shuang’s heart.
My precious daughter! Mommy is here! No one is going to hurt you!
Ming Yuemian turned around after closing the door, only to find Fu Shuang watching her. Those eyes, clear and transparent like glacial crystal, were calm yet indifferent. That gaze landed on her face, silent but carrying a thousand unspoken words, as if seeing through everything. It made Ming Yuemian’s heart sink.
“Kindred spirits?” Fu Shuang repeated the words softly, a hint of faint mockery in her tone.
Ming Yuemian frowned, finding it strange.
Why did she feel a sense of inexplicable resistance and hostility coming from Fu Shuang?
Ming Yuemian remembered that in the novel, although Fu Shuang was cold by nature, she was the “cold exterior, warm interior” type. The fact that she was so easily deceived by that scumbag proved she was a gentle and kind girl. In the early stages, before she knew the “evil junior sister” liked Feng Cheng and was her love rival, she had always been quite kind to her.
But things seemed different now…
You’re guarding against the wrong person! Ming Yuemian thought in agonizing despair. Don’t guard against me, guard against the scumbag! “Ugh, you’re driving ‘Mommy’ crazy!” she wailed internally.
Fu Shuang spoke again: “Miss Ming, you kept me here because you have something to say to me in private, don’t you?”
She struck a pose of “all ears.”
Fu Shuang certainly didn’t believe Ming Yuemian simply wanted a roommate. Based on her understanding of this girl, she was likely here to warn her not to dream of being with Feng Cheng or climbing the social ladder of the Tianxuan Sect.
“Because you don’t deserve it. What kind of person is my Senior Brother? You’re just a low-level cultivator with no sect and no home. Why don’t you look in a mirror and see if you’re even worthy of reaching for such a high branch?”
That was what she had said in their past life.
The words still echoed in her ears. Remembering this, Fu Shuang subconsciously pursed her lips.
Ming Yuemian caught every tiny flicker of her expression and thought: She really is guarding against me! Waaaah, how am I worse than that scumbag?!
“Not at all.” She blinked her large eyes with pure sincerity. “I truly feel we have a great affinity, Sister. From the very first glance, I thought you were beautiful and kind. Who wouldn’t like someone like that?”
Exactly! Everyone likes her, and that scumbag likes her too! He isn’t blind; he saw how wonderful she is and made his move immediately. Despicable! Fu Shuang must be too inexperienced to see through his flowery words. It’s not her fault, it’s all that stinky scumbag’s fault… I can’t stand it, I want to punch him into outer space!
Fu Shuang couldn’t hear the internal monologue, but her brow furrowed even deeper. She stared at Ming Yuemian searchingly, trying to discern the truth from her expression.
She really is hostile toward me! Ming Yuemian realized, her heart breaking. She curved her eyes into a smile to show she wasn’t lying.
Fu Shuang: “…”
Without a word, she flicked her sleeve and turned toward the inner chamber.
“Tsk.” Ming Yuemian sighed at the cold shoulder. My daughter is just going through a rebellious phase. Don’t get angry, don’t get angry. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. A watched pot never boils. Slowly but surely, I’ll melt this iceberg!
Yes! Brave Mianmian, unafraid of difficulties! She could do it!
She sat back down and took a sip of the tea Fu Shuang had poured for her earlier, suddenly noticing her heart was still racing. It was the lingering shock from that giant dragon, as a transmigrator who was afraid of heights and couldn’t even use a sword, this was incredibly difficult.
Clutching her chest, Ming Yuemian thought: I’m making such a huge sacrifice!
Therefore, failure was not an option. If the ending this time was still the same as the original novel, she would literally cough up blood. Reading it was infuriating enough, experiencing it firsthand would be explosive.
So, Fu Shuang, you must not let “Mommy’s” hard work go to waste!
The Tianxuan Sect was vast. Ming Yuemian didn’t see Fu Shuang all day and had no idea where she had gone. She didn’t return until dusk.
Maybe she just doesn’t want to be in the same room as me, Ming Yuemian mused. She didn’t mind that, but… She didn’t go for a secret tryst with Feng Cheng, did she? That won’t do!
She watched the returning Fu Shuang and asked, “Sister, where did you go just now?”
Fu Shuang glanced at her, avoiding a direct answer. Her tone was cold and distant. “Why? Is there some place in the Tianxuan Sect that an ‘outsider’ like me isn’t allowed to go?”
Ming Yuemian choked.
“It’s not that…” She sighed inwardly. Still so guarded. Dropping the subject, she pivoted: “Sister, the hot water is ready. I’ve already bathed. Do you want to go?”
Fu Shuang glanced at the slightly damp tips of Ming Yuemian’s black hair and gave a curt “Mm.”
Ming Yuemian eagerly led her to the bathhouse, it was right next door, only two steps away but she insisted on escorting her anyway.
“Go ahead and wash, Sister.” She smiled, plopping herself down on a small stool by the bathhouse door. “I’ll wait for you here.”
Fu Shuang leaned against the doorframe, speechless. “What are you waiting here for?”
“To go back to sleep together once you’re finished.”
“Do I not know the way back?”
“No,” Ming Yuemian’s voice dropped lower. “I’m just afraid you won’t come back again…”
Fu Shuang looked at the drooping head before her. The girl in red looked quite dejected. It was hard to tell if it was an act, but Fu Shuang suspected it was. She just couldn’t understand the motive.
She hadn’t been humiliated or warned all afternoon. Instead, the girl was acting harmless and affectionate. What was the angle?
When things are too strange, there must be a demon afoot. Rather than feeling relieved, Fu Shuang’s internal alarm bells rang louder.
After a moment of silence, she asked, “If I don’t come back, where would I go?”
“Who knows?” Ming Yuemian scrunched up her face. Seeing a wild flower in the grass nearby, she mindlessly plucked it. “You were out all afternoon, and I didn’t know where you were…”
She couldn’t help herself. She finally asked: “Were you with my Senior Brother?”
Fu Shuang stiffened.
So she finally asks. She sneered inwardly. This brat’s methods might have changed from the previous life, but the core was the same.
Just as obsessed with Feng Cheng, and therefore just as determined to see Fu Shuang as a thorn in her side.
Fu Shuang hadn’t been with Feng Cheng at all, how could she possibly seek out that man now? But she didn’t say that. Instead, she countered: “What if I was? What if I wasn’t?”
“It’s nothing.” Ming Yuemian let out a very world-weary and sorrowful sigh. “If you two go out, why didn’t you bring me? That’s so unfair!”
For some reason, a bit of malice rose in Fu Shuang. In her previous life, this girl had flaunted her “childhood sweetheart” bond with Feng Cheng, insisting no one could come between them. Now, Fu Shuang wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine.
“Why should we bring you?” Fu Shuang smiled faintly. “We are mutually in love. What would you be if you tagged along?”
Mutually in love?!
Those words hit Ming Yuemian like a physical blow. It was a critical hit. Her eyes widened in utter disbelief.
Fu Shuang admired her shocked expression, her lips curling slightly in a triumphant smile.
Ming Yuemian stood there stunned, the wildflower in her hand crushed into a pulp. Fu Shuang didn’t wait for an answer, she entered the bathhouse and shut the door. Her cool, distant voice drifted out through the warm, misty haze:
“Go to sleep first. It’s late, where else would I go? I’m not going anywhere. I’ll come back and sleep with you in a bit.”
