The Female Lead Is A Supporting Female Character - Chapter 3
“My bed is very large; Sister shall sleep with me.”
Fu Shuang’s brow twitched.
In truth, she was well aware of Feng Cheng’s philandering nature. In her previous life, she had been too deeply entangled in the game to see through it. But looking back after her death, it was clear, while she was the designated “heroine,” Feng Cheng’s tenderness wasn’t reserved for her alone. Instead, he distributed it like “rain and dew,” bestowing it upon every woman in the book.
He loved her, but he did not favor her exclusively.
But if there is no exclusive favor, can it even be called love?
Fu Shuang hadn’t expected this “villainous female supporting character” to point this out so bluntly, leaving her feeling quite complicated. However, it didn’t truly matter, this wicked junior sister seemed to have taken the wrong medicine in this life, as her personality had changed significantly though, in doing so, she had unwittingly lent Fu Shuang a hand.
Taking advantage of this opening, Fu Shuang turned her head with a cool, indifferent gaze toward Feng Cheng, waiting to hear how he would explain himself.
Feng Cheng’s eyes visibly flickered with guilt. He managed to squeeze out a strained smile and said, “Junior Sister, don’t talk nonsense. When have I ever brought women back every time I go down the mountain?”
Ha, men. Still trying to deny it? Ming Yuemian immediately retorted: “Mm-hmm, I misspoke.”
“Senior Brother doesn’t just bring back one pretty sister each time, he brings back several,” she chirped, her tone heavy with emphasis. “They come in groups of three or five, a literal harem of three thousand beauties!”
Feng Cheng: “…”
Fu Shuang: “…”
Neither of them expected her to say something so outrageous, and they both froze in unison.
Feng Cheng didn’t know how to smooth over the situation, while Fu Shuang…
For some reason, hearing those words actually made her feel a hint of amusement. Even if Feng Cheng was prolific in his affections, it hadn’t reached the level of a “harem of three thousand.” This Miss Ming was certainly laying it on thick with such conviction…
To think that this person, who in her previous life had been obsessed with her Senior Brother and had constantly hounded Fu Shuang out of jealousy was now saying such things. Fu Shuang couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.
A person like her, who seemed carved out of snow, possessed a beauty even when she smiled.
Seeing her smile now, Feng Cheng grew stern. He realized he couldn’t hide it any longer. He didn’t know what had gotten into Yuemian today, but her sudden outburst had made it impossible for him to save face. He speculated that she was simply jealous because he had brought Shuang’er back.
He quickly drafted a mental script and offered a seemingly sincere explanation: “Shuang’er, I did bring some women back in the past, but they were all poor souls I rescued from the maws of demonic beasts. They were homeless, so I temporarily brought them to the Tianxuan Pavilion… I had no other intentions. Later, I found families for them and sent them back down the mountain. None of them stayed by my side… Truly, it was nothing.”
The way he spoke, so desperate to clear his name, carried the distinct scent of “protesting too much.” Ming Yuemian wanted to strike back with a sarcastic remark to stir the pot further, but before she could open her mouth, she heard Fu Shuang give a cold, detached “Mhm.”
Did he really think he could dismiss her with that? Fu Shuang thought. As expected, a dog’s mouth can’t spit out ivory.
She was no longer that foolish girl from her previous life who believed everything he said unconditionally.
On the surface, Fu Shuang remained calm, but inwardly, she sneered.
Feng Cheng thought she believed him and let out a huge sigh of relief.
Ming Yuemian, however, was completely shocked.
Wait?
Just “Mhm”??!!!
Ming Yuemian’s eyes widened, her watery gaze filled with disbelief.
No, wait….you’re actually accepting that full of holes excuse? Fu Shuang, wake up for Mama!
She turned to look and caught a glimpse of the smile that hadn’t quite faded from the corners of Fu Shuang’s lips.
Ming Yuemian’s first thought was, She’s so beautiful.
But she quickly snapped out of it. Is now the time to think about that? She desperately wanted to pry open Fu Shuang’s head to see if there was anything inside besides sword techniques and cultivation methods. How can you believe whatever people tell you? Don’t you have any sense of caution? Such a beautiful girl, didn’t your parents teach you from a young age to watch out for ill-intentioned bad men?
…Oh. Ming Yuemian remembered that in the setting of this novel, Fu Shuang was an orphan whose parents had died young. Growing up with no one to rely on, she naturally hadn’t received that kind of “early warning” education.
SIGH. Ming Yuemian sighed inwardly. It seemed that waking up the beautiful sister and making her see the scumbag for who he truly was would depend entirely on her.
The road ahead was long and arduous!
Ultimately, the matter was brushed aside, and Ming Yuemian couldn’t bring it up again without it seeming too deliberate. Fu Shuang continued to carry Ming Yuemian all the way to her bedroom.
The Master of Tianxuan Pavilion, Ming Ye, was already waiting in the room. When he saw his precious daughter who had left for the trials standing upright, returning horizontally, he immediately panicked.
“What happened, Mianmian?” Ming Ye didn’t even notice who was carrying his daughter, nor did he spare a single glance for his eldest disciple who had just knelt down. He rushed over and asked, “Where are you hurt? Don’t be afraid, tell Daddy.”
Ming Yuemian’s face was squished and rubbed by his hands until it was a mess. She struggled slightly, having just transmigrated, calling this man “Dad” felt a bit awkward. But seeing his blatant, heartfelt worry, she felt helpless.
“…Dad, I’m fine,” Ming Yuemian said softly. “Really.”
Feng Cheng added, “Master, Junior Sister’s legs just went weak. She didn’t suffer any injuries.”
Fu Shuang expressionlessly placed Ming Yuemian onto a pearwood chair covered with soft cushions. Holding her sword, she retreated to the side, watching with a cold eye as the father, daughter, and sect members shared their intimate moment.
Despite Feng Cheng repeating himself several times, Ming Ye remained uneasy. He rolled up her sleeves and checked her spiritual pulse, only relaxing once he confirmed there was truly nothing wrong.
“You’re back.” Ming Ye cleared his throat, and his persona as the majestic and solemn Pavilion Master returned. As he looked toward Feng Cheng, he finally noticed the unfamiliar face nearby.
He had originally thought the person carrying Ming Yuemian was a female disciple of the Pavilion, only now did he realize she wasn’t. He frowned and asked, “And this is?”
Feng Cheng introduced her: “This is Fu Shuang.”
Ming Ye: “…”
I didn’t ask for her name!
His gaze swept over Fu Shuang with a condescending, scrutinizing air. He asked, “Which sect do you hail from, young lady? What business brings you to my Tianxuan Pavilion?”
His tone was distinctly unfriendly.
Fu Shuang’s eyes remained icy, and she said nothing. The other party was clearly hostile, and she had no desire to engage.
Feng Cheng froze, not expecting his Master to be so aggressive right off the bat. “Master, I brought Shuang’er back. We…”
“Shut up.” Ming Ye interrupted him, unable to bear it any longer. He shot a look at his disciple that carried both warning and accusation, clearly saying: Your lecherous habit is acting up again.
This eldest disciple of his had grown up alongside his precious daughter, they were childhood sweethearts with deep ties. Ming Ye knew his daughter had long ago set her heart on Feng Cheng. As a father, he looked favorably upon the match in fact, everyone in Tianxuan Pavilion tacitly accepted them as a couple.
The only flaw was that this eldest disciple was far too “passionate.” Every time he went down the mountain for business, he would “just happen” to encounter various women with tragic backgrounds, either rescuing them from demons or meeting them by chance and would inevitably bring them back to the mountain, overflowing with “compassion” to find them a good future or home.
To outsiders, this looked like the chivalrous spirit of a hero aiding the world, but as a son-in-law, a man who felt the need to manage and bring home every “pitiful” woman he saw was hardly qualified.
Ming Ye had never held much affection for these women, they were all potential love rivals for his daughter!
And he had an especially poor impression of the one before him. Judging by her attire and demeanor, she was clearly a cultivator of no small skill. She didn’t look “pitiful” at all and likely wasn’t the homeless type. Alarm bells rang in his mind.
The atmosphere grew cold and reached a stalemate. Sitting in her chair, Ming Yuemian recalled how this scene played out in the original novel.
In the original text, when Fu Shuang first arrived at Tianxuan Pavilion with Feng Cheng, she was sarcastically humiliated regarding her background by the villainous sister, Ming Yuemian. The Pavilion Master, Ming Ye, naturally stood brainlessly by his daughter’s side and followed up by ordering Fu Shuang to leave. This was the first emotional crisis for the leads, though Feng Cheng later chased after her and used sweet words to coax her back.
Oh, Ming Yuemian thought, Since I didn’t follow the script, the role of the bully has fallen to this “cheap” dad of mine?
But now that she was here, she naturally couldn’t watch Fu Shuang suffer such a grievance, not even a verbal one.
Since the plot had already changed, what was the harm in changing it a bit more? This father seemed to dote on the original host immensely, if she spoke up, he would surely back down, right?
Ming Yuemian blinked and spoke up before Ming Ye could continue. “I’m thirsty.”
“Sister,” she looked toward Fu Shuang, “could you help me pour a cup of tea?”
All three of them were stunned, unable to understand this turn of events.
Fu Shuang lowered her eyes coldly, looking at the red clothed girl tilting her innocent face up at her. Her tone was practically matter of fact.
“Are your hands broken?” Fu Shuang asked flatly.
“They’re not,” Ming Yuemian replied, not offended at all. She feigned piteousness. “But my legs are still weak. I can’t stand up or walk over there.”
“Please, Sister.”
Her voice was soft and waxy, the end of her sentence slightly lingering and sweet.
Fu Shuang: “…”
She really wanted to retort, Am I your maid? But for some reason, she was curious to see what this junior sister was actually up to. She actually walked to the table, lifted the teapot, poured a cup of plain tea, and handed it over.
Ming Yuemian beamed: “Thank you, Sister.”
With this interruption, it was difficult for Ming Ye to continue his previous topic. He looked at his precious daughter with a strange expression, as if suspecting this woman had cast some sort of spell on her.
Ming Yuemian’s interest wasn’t actually in the tea. She took a sip, and seeing that her “cheap dad” wasn’t planning to continue the sarcasm, she explained: “Just now, my legs were too weak to walk. This sister carried me all the way back without complaint. Dad, you haven’t even helped me thank her.”
Ming Ye’s expression shifted. Ultimately, he had no bottom line when it came to his daughter. He managed to say, “My daughter is spoiled and willful. I’m afraid she has troubled you, Miss.”
He then snapped at Feng Cheng: “Weren’t you just with your sister? If she couldn’t walk, why didn’t you carry her? Why trouble an outsider instead?”
His tone had softened considerably, but his words were still grating, especially the word “outsider.”
Ming Yuemian turned to check Fu Shuang’s reaction, but seeing her expressionless face, she gave up.
Feng Cheng argued in a low voice: “It was Junior Sister who wouldn’t let me carry her. She insisted on Shuang’er…”
In this one instance, he really couldn’t be blamed for being lazy.
Watching Feng Cheng get scolded by Ming Ye, Ming Yuemian had no intention of explaining. On the contrary, she found it quite satisfying.
Whoever scolds a scumbag is a friend of mine!
Once the scolding was over, Feng Cheng asked cautiously, “Master, Shuang’er has no sect affiliation. Can she stay at Tianxuan Pavilion?”
The corner of Fu Shuang’s mouth twitched upward slightly. She prepared to wait for Ming Ye to say “No,” so she could turn and leave.
The plot of her previous life had been much like this. Even if those humiliating words hadn’t been said for some reason in this life, the general progression should be more or less the same.
Ming Ye was indeed about to say “No,” but because of what Ming Yuemian had just said, he couldn’t immediately turn hostile. He chose a more tactful route: “Our Tianxuan Pavilion doesn’t have many rooms. The disciple quarters are all full…”
“It doesn’t matter,” Ming Yuemian interrupted before he could finish. She said with a smile, “My bed is very large. Sister shall sleep with me.”
