Chapter 16: Startling to the Eye
The fresh, sweet taste of blueberry burst in her mouth instantly.
The lady’s cigarette was mixed with a mint crush ball, and the icy coolness of the mint rushed straight to her head in the next second. The intense kick felt like it could flip her over, a sensation so invigorating it made her scalp tingle.
Almost by physiological instinct, Jiang Yu’s brain briefly crashed.
Rong Wei’s hand gradually moved to her waist. When Jiang Yu reacted again, she found herself already sitting on Rong Wei’s lap.
The two of them finished the cigarette while embracing like this. When it ended, Jiang Yu was still somewhat dazed.
At this moment, Rong Wei stood up. Jiang Yu instinctively reached out and pushed against Rong Wei’s chest, her intention to stop her quite obvious.
Rong Wei’s movement paused. At this point, Jiang Yu stood up, tidied her slightly messy bathrobe, and tactfully said, “CEO Rong, it’s getting late.”
Rong Wei nodded faintly, then stood up, “I know. I had no other intention, I was just going to take a shower.”
Jiang Yu choked for a moment, glanced at Rong Wei, and finally just said, “The same bathroom as before. I’m going to take a quick shower too.”
Due to extreme fatigue, Jiang Yu was in and out of the shower in a flash this time.
Rong Wei hadn’t returned yet, likely still in the shower.
Jiang Yu was terribly sleepy, so she grabbed her phone, sent Rong Wei a text message telling her she was going to sleep first, and then immediately drifted off into a deep slumber.
That night, she slept very soundly, without any dreams; it was a rare, high-quality sleep.
She didn’t know when Rong Wei came back, only that when she woke up in the morning, the spot next to her in the bed was empty.
Jiang Yu groggily felt under the pillow for her phone, checked the time, and then went to WeChat, ready to check for the latest messages.
The page loaded for a while, and then a message from Rong Wei popped up.
【I have a meeting soon, so I left first. There are new clothes and accessories prepared for you outside. The size should be just right.】
Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow, surprised by Rong Wei’s thoughtfulness.
She liked cleanliness and didn’t like wearing the same clothes two days in a row. She had been too carried away last night and forgot to contact her assistant to send new clothing.
She wasn’t the type to make things difficult for herself, so after hesitating for a moment, she accepted Rong Wei’s kindness and typed a reply: 【Okay, thank you.】
After replying to the message, Jiang Yu’s mind hadn’t fully woken up yet, so she lay in bed for another while, and only truly got up ten minutes later.
The moment her hand touched the bed, a kind of intensely sore feeling, almost like her bones were falling apart, suddenly came from the depths of her bone marrow.
Jiang Yu pulled a wry smile, got out of bed, and went to the bathroom.
Last night, everything was too chaotic, and the light was dim, so Jiang Yu hadn’t looked too closely at her body.
Now, standing in front of the mirror, she gasped.
They had agreed not to leave marks in obvious places, and Rong Wei had indeed kept that promise, but…
The marks on her chest were still too dazzling, like crimson peonies, inexplicably shocking and making it hard for her mind not to wander.
Jiang Yu took a deep breath, splashed some cold water on her face, and gradually woke up.
It was only then that she realized she felt exceptionally refreshed, her mood was especially pleasant, and she was experiencing a long-lost feeling of being full of energy.
Jiang Yu had a premonition that her state over the next two days would be very good.
After quickly tidying herself up in the washroom, it was nearly time to go to work.
Walking out, Jiang Yu saw a brand-new set of clothes hanging on the rack in the living room, which must have been the outfit Rong Wei prepared for her.
It was a beige-colored commuter suit, very much in Rong Wei’s minimalist and sophisticated style.
In addition, the underwear and accessories were also perfectly prepared. In particular, the accessory was a diamond-encrusted bracelet shaped like a snake, with two emeralds set in the snake’s eyes. It looked mysterious and dazzling at first glance.
Jiang Yu knew quality and immediately recognized that this item was quite valuable.
However, Jiang Yu didn’t dwell too much on the price. Furthermore, she knew Rong Wei came from a wealthy family, and these items were merely small favors for her.
So, she simply changed into the clothes, put on the accessory, took a photo of herself in the mirror to send to Rong Wei, and captioned it: 【Thank you, CEO Rong. The size is perfect.】
After sending the message, Jiang Yu put down her phone. She figured Rong Wei was probably in a meeting right now and wouldn’t reply.
And that was indeed the case.
Around six in the morning, Rong Wei’s internal clock kicked in, and her sleepiness completely vanished.
She hadn’t intended to leave so early, but a very important, unscheduled meeting came up, forcing her to leave ahead of time.
This meeting didn’t end until around one or two in the afternoon.
Rong Wei returned to her office, picked up her phone, and saw the message from Jiang Yu. The corner of her lips unconsciously curled upwards: 【You’re welcome, just a small favor.】
Compared to the high-end jewelry and accessories she had sent over the past two years under the title of “wife,” these were nothing.
…
After leaving the hotel, Jiang Yu went to the company and, as planned, held a cross-country video conference with Lin Yao and others.
The main topic of the meeting was still about Ji Zhou.
Over the past few days, public opinion about Ji Zhou was still fermenting, but everything was within their control.
Just as they discussed that day, Jiang Yu and her team were merely waiting for the right moment.
The issue was not a major one, and a solution had been agreed upon early on. It wasn’t complicated, and the meeting ended completely after only about half an hour.
After the meeting, Jiang Yu planned to go find Lu Linqiao to check on their progress. When she entered her office, she found Ador was also inside, but she was slumped listlessly on the sofa, with half her face visible and her eyes noticeably red.
She had clearly been crying, and the atmosphere in the office was oddly subdued.
Ador was completely immersed in her own world and hadn’t noticed Jiang Yu’s arrival.
In silence, Jiang Yu and Lu Linqiao exchanged a look. After a moment, Jiang Yu casually picked up something in Lu Linqiao’s office and left.
Jiang Yu received a message from Lu Linqiao again three or four hours later.
Lu Linqiao asked her if she wanted to go eat together. Jiang Yu agreed, and the two met at a restaurant downstairs.
In their daily interactions, Jiang Yu was a person who knew her boundaries.
Ador hadn’t brought up her personal affairs with her, so Jiang Yu didn’t pry, but merely asked appropriately, “Is she stable now?”
Lu Linqiao drank a large gulp of water and nodded, “Yeah, she’s fine.”
While talking, the waiter served the vegetable salad. Jiang Yu ate a bite of egg white to stave off her hunger, and then briefly summarized the clothing company matter to Lu Linqiao.
Just as she was about to eat something else, a sound suddenly came from the table—Jiang Yu had received a message from Rong Wei.
The person had replied succinctly with only seven words, “You’re welcome, just a small favor.” Jiang Yu didn’t know how to respond immediately.
So, she didn’t bother typing and simply put her phone down.
Lu Linqiao caught this instant movement in her eye. After Jiang Yu put down her phone, Lu Linqiao asked, “Was that message from the mixed-race sister just now?”
Jiang Yu’s movement paused slightly, and she nodded lightly, “Yes, you truly are insightful.”
“There’s something I haven’t told you yet.”
Jiang Yu and Lu Linqiao had known each other for many years, so it was no exaggeration to say they were the closest of friends. Jiang Yu had no intention of hiding anything from Lu Linqiao, and since the topic had come up, she decided to speak.
Lu Linqiao looked at Jiang Yu and preemptively said, “Did you two sleep together?”
Both of their personalities were similar—straightforward and direct. Despite that, hearing it from someone else still gave Jiang Yu a strange feeling.
After quite a while, Jiang Yu slowly nodded.
Lu Linqiao wasn’t overly curious about Rong Wei; her focus was on Jiang Yu, so she naturally asked, “That’s good.”
“But what exactly are your intentions?”
“Is this just a one-time thing with her, or are you planning a long-term relationship?”
