The Devil's Contract Lover - Chapter 57
The roof was shattered by an immense force, the entire structure maintaining its stability only through the reliance on an unseen shadow. The true Devil that descended at this moment emitted a familiar aura.
The man felt a sweetness in his throat, instantly recalling a plethora of unhappy memories from the amusement park.
“Damn it! How could a genuine Devil appear here? The summoning circle of these lowlife mobs isn’t orthodox at all!” Although he felt the tremor of the teleportation magic from the start, he never imagined such an anomaly!
He didn’t hesitate for long. In the very next second, he instinctively wanted to raise his hand and shapeshift, at least into a form more conducive to escape. He was already satiated; there was no need to stay for more food—Crack, crack, crack.
Three fatal cracking sounds came from within, and the glass-like object maintaining his humanoid form immediately traveled from his abdomen up to his mouth. He gritted his teeth, barely avoiding the first death.
Soon, he understood that the only reason he hadn’t died was because the other party didn’t wish to kill him easily yet. All avenues for escape were completely sealed off. The shadow solidified into a grayscale prison, enveloping everything in all directions.
Within the prison, there were faint, even more ominous golden light specks, the nature of the power flickering within unknown. The handsome man did not wish to die, so he maintained a minimal degree of composure, hoping the other party still had the intention to converse.
“Xing Kong, isn’t this the guy from the amusement park?” Yao Yuan poked her head out from Xing Kong’s embrace, instantly recalling a certain iron shovel.
The man, who shared the same memory, also frowned. The girl looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn’t recall the specifics, only an iron shovel kept bouncing around in his mind.
Before the Devil could answer, Yao Yuan pointed at the trapped man: “Is he also related to you?”
Oh no, I’m going to die! The man trembled in a storm of premonitions of death. However, the storm did not descend as he expected; instead, it gradually subsided.
“No, he’s far removed. It’s just a lower-grade species that absorbs fear and death.”
“How far? I think you two look a little alike right now, judging by the face shape,” Yao Yuan said with a playful smile, adding coal and carbon to the furnace.
“About the difference between you and a cockroach.”
“Hey, why are you grouping me with a cockroach?” She discontentedly tapped Xing Kong’s chest: “Even if you must use an example, couldn’t you say the difference between a human and a cockroach?”
“The disparity isn’t great enough.” The Devil extended a hand, and the cage constructed of shadow immediately constricted. The man inside let out a wail and transformed into… a gray-furred mouse.
“Xing Kong, do you like turning humanoid creatures into mice?” Yao Yuan shrank back in alarm. A lover with such a hobby was a bit much to bear.
“No, it has too little energy to utilize in this world.” The Devil shook the cage. The mouse inside continuously shrunk, finally becoming a beetle.
“What does that mean? It turns into a beetle because its energy was completely absorbed by you?”
“No, I look down upon such low-quality energy.” Xing Kong removed the cage, and the beetle fell on the ground, four legs in the air: “It is considered the lowest-tier Demon race, completely different from me, and therefore more likely to wander into the mortal world.”
“Since he’s also a Demon, you have a feeling of kinship and don’t want to kill him, right?” Yao Yuan’s eyes curved into crescent moons.
“Trying to provoke me into killing him?” Xing Kong glanced distastefully at the insect on the ground, clearly not even wanting to move a foot towards it.
She laughed heartily: “Yes, I really dislike this devil. Will you kill him for me, Xing Kong?” The consciousness of the fire opal slowly recovered, and when it looked up, it saw this innocent smile.
What… what is she saying? It was hard to understand, but after seeing the corpses around, it didn’t seem so difficult anymore.
No answer was necessary; the insect on the ground was utterly crushed in the space. Regardless of how many people he had previously trampled upon, he was now merely powder from an insect corpse.
“Let’s go.” Xing Kong picked up Yao Yuan: “Do we need to bother with the remaining two people?”
“Yes, I want to save them.”
The fortune teller’s ropes snapped in response. She sprang to her feet but didn’t catch up with the elemental transfer.
“Ugh…” Yao Yuan woke up amid a soft, furry sensation, then scrambled off the carpet with a “Wow!” It was a pure white fur rug? Judging by its size, it was clearly made from a monster.
“Come, let’s go meet that person.” A somewhat cold voice sounded. She reflexively placed her hand on her palm, only to be stunned by the spectacle before her!
“Xing… Xing Kong, Pfft.” She couldn’t hold it in and burst into laughter.
Xing Kong was now wearing an elaborate outfit very similar to a medieval formal suit, but the most important thing was that face of forced service—he was definitely coerced into wearing it!
“Entering her domain requires compliance with her rules.” The Devil spoke with a hint of helplessness: “Someone whose age and strength are disproportionate to their psychological state. Let’s make this quick.”
It sounded like a junior impatient with an elder. Seeing this side of Xing Kong, Yao Yuan suddenly felt a bit relieved.
“So I’ve changed too?” She looked down. Her simple dress had instantly become retro and was adorned with many gem decorations, making her look somewhat like a half-finished Christmas tree.
“And this.” A slender silver necklace, set with a purple crystal in the center, appeared in Xing Kong’s hand. His long fingers traced her neck, fastening the necklace.
“Is this a special gift?” Yao Yuan could see unknown characters carved behind the gemstone, and a blush crept onto her cheeks.
“It’s a mark, meaning: ‘This human is my property.'” Xing Kong took her hand: “There are also branded outsiders walking in our domain.”
“Property, huh… my soul doesn’t belong to you yet,” Yao Yuan muttered her objection, but followed with light steps.
“It will, eventually. But you won’t be regarded as a contractor by irrelevant parties. The souls of creatures who have fulfilled their contracts are usually stored in containers.” Xing Kong’s finger sketched in the void.
The space surging with magic immediately responded to her, outlining various styles of bottles, demonstrating the different treatments for souls considered as general equivalents and those treated as collectibles.
“Then what will they consider me? A mercenary? A bodyguard or a maid?”
“Similar to your mental obsession with big-breasted succubi.”
“No way… Wow, will I be treated as a concubine? That’s terrible!” Yao Yuan turned her head, speaking insincerely.
The [Castle] seemed to be just a concept. As Xing Kong intended to step out, the ground shrank until only a few steps remained. They soon arrived at a wide area resembling a street.
“Xing Kong, do you live in the city?” Yao Yuan curiously looked around, seeing no one. Perhaps there were beings hidden in the surrounding buildings, but they clearly weren’t interested in strolling outside right now.
“No, the entire domain belongs to me.” Xing Kong’s eyes grew increasingly cold: “I don’t need the favors of ‘elders,’ but that one is extremely willful.”
It sounded like inheriting billions in an estate? Well… elders in Hell don’t truly pass away. A willful, selfish, and innocent image popped into Yao Yuan’s mind. Perhaps a blonde, twin-tailed loli Devil?
“Xing Kong, is there really nothing I need to pay attention to, like special etiquette?”
“No need, I greatly dislike her.”
Given that they were asking for a favor, that attitude seemed ill-advised…
A gigantic jewel-encrusted ring stood in the center of the square. The ground moved towards them. After walking only a small fraction of the distance, they were able to pass through the ring. After the sensation of piercing a thin membrane, the two arrived in a completely new area.
At the end of the colored-tile pavement, two figures were waiting.
