The Devil's Contract Lover - Chapter 5
The pedestrian street on Saturday was bustling with people, and Yao Yuan kept looking back: Is it really okay to let the Devil carry my shopping bags?
Xingkong spent money without hesitation: clothes, shoes, cosmetics, home décor… Even when she tried desperately to stop him, he still bought a huge pile.
“Where else do you need to shop?”
“No… Is there anywhere you want to go?” She quickly waved her hand: “I’ve finished my shopping, and you don’t have any hands free to carry more.”
The colorful gift boxes and shopping bags were tossed upwards and disappeared into the air. Xingkong opened his hands: “Now I have hands free.”
“Then what about all the stuff we bought?!”
“Don’t worry, they’ll get back before us.”
Yao Yuan hissed and pressed her temple: “No, no, that’s beside the point! Aren’t we dating? Spending a huge amount of money unilaterally is called being kept, right?”
The Devil took her left hand and continued walking forward: “Are being kept and dating mutually exclusive?”
“I say they are mutually exclusive—” “Then I’ll wait for your gift, Xiaoyuan.”
It was impossible to say anything discouraging when making eye contact with Xingkong. Was this also the Devil’s power?
Yao Yuan mustered her courage several times, but finally gave up: “Ha… Then next, let’s go to the place to rent clothes.”
“Rent clothes?”
“That’s right. I’ve attended a small tea party before, and all the group members dressed up as witches.” She glanced around: “It hasn’t closed, has it?”
It turned out that jinxes were very effective.
A [Room for Rent] notice was tightly linked with a ruthless iron chain, and the mannequin dummies in the window stood naked in a row.
Yao Yuan pressed against the glass and wailed: “No way! We’re boarding the ship tomorrow, if this is closed, where am I going to rent clothes?!”
Click, the heavy chain fell to the ground, and the lights turned on. Xingkong hooked a finger and pulled open the door: “Come in, it’s still open inside.”
The askew plastic mannequins were dressed in splendid attire, and rows of finished garments, along with props, descended from mid-air clinging to racks.
A calico stray cat dozing by the wall sprang into the gap, passing through the hazy glow and transforming into a smiling, amiable shop assistant. Upon closer inspection, she was cosplaying a Catgirl from a certain game.
“Meow meow~ What kind of clothes do the two of you need?” The Catgirl blinked her emerald eyes, her vertical pupils looking particularly playful: “Grand Opening Special, the first order is completely up to chance, meow~”
Holding hands, they stepped into the warm yellow light, and soft music began to play. Xingkong took a piece of clothing from a rack, and as it fell onto Yao Yuan, she was fully dressed.
Three floor-length mirrors formed a half-prism surrounding the front, allowing the person in the mirror to see herself from all angles.
She touched the pointed hat on her head and stepped back two paces: Perhaps a headpiece would be more suitable? As soon as the thought flashed, the pointed hat spun and shrank into an antler crown, with a golden gem set right in the center.
“Wearing an antler crown is a bit too exaggerated.”
The golden antler humanely twisted and turned, shrinking into a meek arc to accommodate the conservative wearer, losing its original striking shape.
She took tiny steps in front of the mirror, her studded shoes sparkling. She tried spinning, and the pleated skirt’s runes shimmered.
She loved this little black dress, she loved it very much, so much that she couldn’t refuse it. If there was a must-do checklist in life, wearing the most satisfying gown to a banquet full of friends would probably be quite high on it.
A hand lifted her face: “Come, pay the bill—with your smile.”
How could she refuse? Yao Yuan reached up and covered her mouth. The smile was unstoppable, blooming across her face and eyes.
“What do you want to wear for the tea party… Xingkong.” Softly, and for the first time, she called him by his name seriously after naming him.
“Are you planning to take me with you?”
“Even if I said no, you’d still go, right? Might as well introduce you to everyone. I messaged the group admin privately while we were shopping, and she said you’re very welcome.” Yao Yuan shook her phone.
“This time, it’s your turn to choose.” Xingkong walked to the mirror, and the clothing racks by their hands constantly switched positions. The one Yao Yuan was most interested in would definitely appear by her hand as her gaze moved. After several changes, a black evening gown stood out.
A pair of pure black lovers appeared in the mirror, the tall Devil and the petite Witch, looking as if they had stepped out of an illustration, their hands clasped.
“Thank you for your patronage~” The Catgirl waved her claws, seeing off the two who had their clothes packaged.
The lights went out as they stepped out of the store, the mannequins lost their elaborate clothing, and the racks lay scattered. The “shop assistant” hopped out of a gap and disappeared at the end of the alley.
Yao Yuan slowly suppressed her smile: It’s too early to waver now.
The key turned the lock, and two bags of clothes were casually tossed onto the cabinet. A small strip of spare ribs bought at the roadside market received better treatment, landing on the coffee table.
“We bought too much~ Come and lend a hand.”
The two worked together tacitly. Xingkong was responsible for opening the boxes, dealing with packaging waste, and emptying storage cabinets, while Yao Yuan was responsible for placing the items in their designated spots.
Small potted plants, a mini-fridge, and a lazy sofa quickly occupied the space, and a dream catcher was hung by the bed.
Her face flushed: She had intended not to spend the Devil’s money, but when he actually coaxed her into buying things, she found she couldn’t control herself at all!
Must not fall, must not fall. Next time, I definitely won’t do this.
“Xiaoyuan, have you decided what gift to give me?” The Devil leaned back comfortably on the sofa, looking smug.
It must take effort to strike such an arrogant pose in just one second!
However, this question was hard to answer. Yao Yuan shook her head honestly: “I can’t even afford the price of the clothes, I’ll buy you… lipstick? after I become a full-time employee.”
The attempt failed. As she drew out the word “lipstick,” the Devil’s lip color changed at least 36 shades.
“Give me a hint!”
“Try acting spoiled.” Xingkong pulled her into his arms, as if teasing a kitten.
“Tell me, please!” Yao Yuan helplessly shook the Devil’s arm.
“No.”
“Waaah, I don’t know how to act spoiled. I don’t care, take it or leave it!”
Xingkong helplessly patted the temperamental kitten-Yuan, stood up, and carried the spare ribs toward the kitchen.
Yao Yuan, who had just been tossing and turning, immediately tumbled off the sofa to block him, snatching the ribs without question: “Wait, you must be tired today, leave it to me!”
She excitedly ran through the neighbor’s open door and into the kitchen.
First, the rice cooker to save time. Next, selecting ingredients~ No winter melon, so she’d use potatoes instead, and the corn on the cob over there looked good too.
She skillfully blanched the ribs in cold water, retrieved the whitened ribs, and tossed them into the soup pot to season. When she looked back, the corn was already cut into small pieces, and the potatoes were neatly cracked into regular cubes, obediently lying on a plate.
She added the vegetables directly until the aroma permeated, then mixed in a small packet of tomato sauce. The long wait resulted in a perfect broth.
“Try it.” Yao Yuan scooped up a spoonful of clear soup and blew on it.
Xingkong took a light sip: “A bit bland.”
“Is that so?” She unconsciously tasted a mouthful. The flavor was very rich, and she could even taste an unknown spice… Her face slowly turned red at the sight of the other’s mischievous expression.
Falling into the Devil’s rhythm meant losing. She narrowed her eyes and pretended not to notice: “It’s average.”
“Knock, knock, knock.”
Just as the spare rib soup was placed on the table, a knocking sound abruptly rang out again.
