- Chapter 2 - Brother, How Do You Feel About Him?
Ning Qing sat on the desk and flicked his slightly long braid over to the front of his shoulder, exposing a section of his fair, slender nape. The lines there were smooth and refined, flushed with a faint trace of pink.
“Is it here?”
Ciel obediently caressed that delicate patch of skin and blew a soft breath on it.
“Does it hurt like this?”
First came the pressing of his fingertips, bringing a wave of numbing itchiness, followed by his fangs lightly grazing over the newly forming gland. Ning Qing involuntarily began to shiver out of reflex.
“It doesn’t hurt… it’s just a little… ah.”
Piercing the skin, injecting the pheromones, the temporary mark was complete.
The entire process was very gentle.
The manic heat gradually dissipated, replaced by a momentary sense of fulfillment from being briefly claimed.
Ning Qing felt a bit dazed. A thin layer of sweat broke out on his forehead, and his bangs clung to his twitching eyelashes. Once parted, they revealed a damp, indisputably gorgeous face.
Right now, the corners of his eyes were wet and red, like a shell pried open just enough to reveal its soft, lush interior, intensely moving.
However, for Ning Qing himself, this feeling of losing control was far too overwhelming.
It felt a bit strange.
Therefore, when Ciel tried to stroke his brow and eyes, Ning Qing nimbly dodged the touch.
Ciel: “Do you want to sit for a while longer?”
“No need. I’ll return this favor to you in the future.”
Saying so, Ning Qing darted off like the wind, leaving not even a shadow behind.
To think I’d be tossed aside the moment I was used.
Ciel was taken aback. He had clearly put on the most approachable look designed by the capital planet’s top stylists, where on earth did things go wrong?
Still, this trip brought other gains. He managed to snag Ning Qing’s limited edition contact info, rumor had it that only three people in the entire academy possessed his terminal number.
On Ciel’s lightscreen, two messages arrived almost simultaneously.
One was an automated reply for adding a friend:
【Hello, this is Ning Qing, a fourth year student in the Mecha Combat Department.】
The other came from “himself.”
【Brother, you’ve met him. How do you feel about him?】
After taking an inhibitor, Ning Qing spent the night engaged in vindictive training, only finding time to check his communications while taking a shower. He hadn’t expected that ignoring it for a bit would result in 99+ unread messages.
【Senior, do you want to go out for a meal? How about tomorrow? I remember Rongdefang near the North Gate Fourth Street is really good, authentic ancient Chinese flavor. I bet you’ll like it ^^】
【I saw you come out of the simulated combat room. I’m nearby too! Did you see me?】
Attached to each message was a Shiba Inu emoji. When clicked, it transformed into a holographic projection lying mischievously in Ning Qing’s palm, a golden Shiba Inu throwing a playful tantrum while smirking.
Ning Qing tried to close the projection, but accidentally triggered the “roll over” command, allowing Ciel to instantly catch his online status.
【Why is Senior ignoring me?】
【Rolling on the floor in grief】
Was this junior really so lively in private? He’s practically a different person compared to daytime.
Ning Qing recalled the situation from earlier that day. The Ciel in his memory was much more grounded and quiet. This must be the contrast between his online and offline persona, Ning Qing thought.
He typed at a speed thirty times slower than when operating a mecha.
【I need to handle some procedures over the next few days. Let’s talk another time.】
Crying, screaming, wagging tail…
Shiba Inus in all sorts of poses spammed his screen, causing Ning Qing’s secondhand light computer to freeze completely.
【Goodnight, Junior.】
Blinded and annoyed by the noise, Ning Qing chose to turn off his light computer. After this ordeal, the small amount of guilt he felt had entirely evaporated.
Even if he was grateful, Ning Qing did not intend to get too close to Ciel. He could return this favor later.
From now on, he needed to keep his identity hidden, win the championship in the League, join the Expeditionary Force, and ultimately gain permission to enter the forbidden zone. The risk level of this plan was far too high, he really shouldn’t drag anyone else into it.
In the shower, under the curtain of water, Ning Qing slid down slowly against the wall. The contrasting sensations of hot water and cold porcelain temporarily helped mask his pain.
Inhibitors, training, battles, and conflicts with classmates had nearly drained all his energy.
So tired.
Streams of water ran down his taut jawline, flowed across his butterfly wing shoulder blades, and finally disappeared into a beautifully curved place. If one looked closely, a subtle tremor could be seen in his shoulders.
All of this was faithfully recorded by eyes hidden in the dark.
On the academy’s anonymous forum, a hidden livestream channel, accessible only to verified noble members, quietly started broadcasting.
In the hazy footage, Ning Qing’s medium long hair was slowly untied by slender fingers, sticking wetly against his collarbones, looking extraordinarily soft.
Lathering up, wiping clean, wringing out… Although no critical parts were clearly visible, it never failed to ignite the foulest desires.
The reckless, filterless comments in the chat increased rapidly.
At a certain moment, Ning Qing suddenly tied up his damp hair, stepped forward with bare feet amidst the pearl white foam, and…
Ripped the camera down in one swift motion.
Half an hour later, Ning Qing stood outside his dormitory room waiting, wearing a faded, loose pair of pajamas. He had found a total of eight hidden cameras in various corners of his room. They shared a design similar to the ones Banson used, and their controller couldn’t be traced.
In principle, residential affairs were managed autonomously by the Student Council. Thus, he had no choice but to dial the Student Council’s emergency line to request an immediate room reassignment. However, even using his toes to think, he expected nothing more than a domestic robot arriving to brush him off with boilerplates.
Ning Qing guessed wrong.
“Good evening, Senior! We meet again. Aren’t you touched to see me come in person?”
With his styled golden hair sticking up proudly, making him look exceptionally spirited, Ciel waved at him from afar. His smile deepened, looking as though he was thrilled to be working overtime at two in the morning.
Is there any reason to be touched by this? Ning Qing didn’t bother with small talk. With a brief nod, he got straight to the point. “I called you here because someone installed hidden cameras in my dorm. I need to change residences immediately.”
Ciel took the surveillance devices and inspected them back and forth. The warmth of another person still lingered on them, along with the faint, evaporating scent of sage from the body wash.
He said in a remarkably cheerful tone: “Leave the dorm issue to me. But these devices are rare, high-end items. They aren’t just for surveillance, they can also hack into your light-computer. They’re popular among assassins.”
The more Ciel spoke, the darker Ning Qing’s expression grew.
Fortunately, the inhibitor he used wasn’t a standard injectable, but an oral liquid provided by underground black market doctors disguised as milk.
Given that his gender hadn’t been exposed, he was merely a powerless, backgroundless orphan, a Beta whose symbolic value outweighed his practical worth. Who was so desperate to put him to death?
Immersed in thought, Ning Qing’s brows furrowed tightly. His fingertips rapidly scrolled through the public information he had gathered earlier, his skin illuminated by the night like the white porcelain collected in the Ciel family’s ancestral mansion.
He really has great taste.
After admiring Ning Qing’s looks for a while longer, Ciel took advantage of his Alpha height advantage, leaning down to pat Ning Qing on the shoulder.
“Still, Senior doesn’t need to be too nervous. My guess is they installed these just to peep on you.”
Ning Qing tilted his head, his eyes widening slightly from Ciel’s higher vantage point. “Peep on me? What would be the point of that?”
Did they want to find dirt on me to force a drop out? But that’s way too roundabout.
“Oh, about that!”
Ciel took the opportunity to lean closer to Ning Qing, summoning his light-computer with a flick of his wrist. He showed him an array of forum boards filled with various types of fanatical users.
These included, but were not limited to, true fans who bluntly called Ning Qing their wife or lover; hater fans who, after having their confidence shattered by Ning Qing, daydreamed while spewing abuse and shippers who spread rumors that Ning Qing relied on connections to become the top student.
Ning Qing’s breathing turned heavy in an instant.
Facing a Beta who was difficult to reproduce with, people were already like this. If the news of his secondary differentiation leaked out, there would surely be even more scum like Banson trying to put those vile fantasies into action.
However, Ciel couldn’t comprehend his silence and gently pinched Ning Qing’s wrist. “Are you angry, Senior?”
Ning Qing’s eyes burned like phosphorescent fire as he gritted his teeth and murmured. “I was thinking… Alphas really are simple minded creatures that think with their lower half.”
Ciel looked back at him resentfully.
Ning Qing was still fuming and ignored him.
Ciel kept staring at him.
It wasn’t until ten minutes later, when Ning Qing calmed down and had a sudden flash of insight, that he finally corrected himself.
“…Except for you.”
Finally satisfied, Ciel returned to his lively self. “Aren’t you curious in what capacity I’m here today?”
He proudly showed off the armband embroidered with stars. “Ta-da! The newly appointed Student Council President, the kind who can arrange a luxury dorm suite for you!”
“Then congratulations.”
Ning Qing randomly reached into his packed luggage and shoved a bag of dried fruit, a specialty from the border star zone into Ciel’s armband. “A promotion gift for you.”
When he said this, Ning Qing seemed unable to hold back a half-second smile.
Blinded by that brief glimpse of delight, the young master from the capital planet was still processing things when he saw Ning Qing sling a standard military-issued duffel bag over his shoulder, clap his hands, and prepare to leave.
Ciel grew a bit anxious. “Where are you going? I haven’t set up your new dorm room yet. Why don’t you stay at my place first?”
Ning Qing didn’t look back. “Since everything is taken care of, I need to head to an Interstellar Waystation for 300 credits a night. See ya.”
“Can a place like that even host human beings?”
“I used to live there.”
Ning Qing felt no attachment to the spacious, bright military academy dorms.
His straight, slender back clad in a pure black wool overcoat, walked further and further away, eventually melting into the shadows beyond the reach of the lights.
Although he claimed he wanted to keep him, Ciel made no actual move to stop him.
That perfect smile on his face slowly stiffened, resembling a cheap masquerade mask curling up from the wind, dropping off completely the moment he received a communication call.
How dangerous… How can someone make my heart beat so wildly, whether he’s angry or happy?
His brother was right. Ning Qing really was…
Extremely interesting.
Ciel tossed the fairly expensive surveillance devices up and down in his palm, while his other hand touched the communication chip near his earlobe. “Is it all taken care of?”
A voice strikingly similar to his replied nonchalantly. “It wasn’t anything difficult. The broadcast data has been destroyed. As for the other forum boards, I set up a banned words detector and conveniently banned a batch of accounts that were talking real trash.”
Ciel quickly caught the main point. “You saved the footage, right? Send me a copy, don’t keep the good stuff to yourself.”
“You’re getting too close to Ning Qing, brother.”
The other end of the line fell silent for a full half-minute before replying. The emphasis on the last word was exceptionally heavy, clearly, he had been watching their every move from the shadows.
Ciel refused to back down. “Heh, who was the one who used their own pheromones to reek all over him during their very first meeting? Pretty sure that wasn’t me.”
Beep! Beep!
The call was hung up by the other party.
Boring.
Having nothing better to do, he hacked into the iris lock of Ning Qing’s dorm door.
The younger twin, Ciel No. 2, lay sprawled out in a big ‘X’ shape on the bed Ning Qing usually slept in.
The decor of this room could be described as frugal and plain. All the furniture was standard issue from move-in day, and the bedding was folded into neat “tofu blocks” according to military academy tradition. Even without ordering a bionic butler cleaning service, every corner was wiped spotless.
The bed was close to the bathroom. Accompanied by the bitter, refreshing scent of sage, Ciel watched the full recording of that peep livestream.
The protagonist of the video quietly endured all reactions, simply repeating the monotone action of wiping himself clean over his impeccably gorgeous body, yet it made Ciel absurdly excited.
If this pure piece of white paper from body to soul, were forced to be stained with colors belonging to someone else, what would that look like?
A brilliant idea suddenly crossed his mind.
Ciel: 【Dear Senior Ning Qing, remember to return to school on time tomorrow~】
【I’ve prepared a super big surprise for you.】
