The Delicate Beauty Grabbed the Cannon Fodder Villain’s Script [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 51
Jian Tao was led into the room by Zhuang Sheng, filled with profound trepidation. He was as stiff as a block of wood, still immersed in the horrifying scene from moments ago. Facing the man before him made him feel even more terrified.
It was not until Zhuang Sheng lifted him onto the bed and they lay down together that Zhuang Sheng kissed his forehead and said, “I am sorry. I scared you just now.”
Immediately after, he turned off the lights, plunging the room into darkness. Zhuang Sheng turned on his side to pull him into an embrace. Jian Tao spent the night in Room 404 in a state of total numbness.
The next day, when he woke up in his dormitory bed, he fell into a daze. He stared blankly at the ceiling and questioned his life.
Gu Huaian was not in the dormitory. He likely had not returned all night. The room was silent until his phone rang, finally snapping Jian Tao out of his trance.
It was Gu Huaian calling. As soon as Jian Tao picked up, the other man asked immediately, “Why have you not come to the meeting yet?”
“Oh, I am on my way,” Jian Tao said, hanging up shortly after.
He quickly tidied himself up and headed straight for the venue on the first floor of the hotel. By the time he arrived, the morning briefing was already halfway through, and everyone was staring at him.
Seeing his arrival, the Manager said sternly, “You are late. Come to the small meeting room with me after the briefing.”
Jian Tao gave a soft “Yes” in response. He knew the Manager looked stern now, but in reality, he would not truly punish him.
Jian Tao sighed. He had lost confidence in his own judgment. He could no longer tell who was a truly harmless, good person.
After the meeting ended, the Manager walked over and said, “Follow me.”
As soon as they entered the meeting room, the Manager ruffled his hair and asked with concern, “Why do you look so out of sorts?”
Recalling the events of the previous night, Jian Tao immediately shook his head and said, “It is nothing. I just did not rest well.”
The Manager pulled him over to sit at the conference table and took out a small cake for him. “Eat this. If you feel unwell, go take a rest.”
“Thank you, Manager,” Jian Tao managed a forced smile and ate the cake.
“It is okay. If you are unhappy about something, just tell me. Do not put too much pressure on yourself,” the Manager comforted him.
“Okay,” Jian Tao replied, feeling a bit more relaxed.
The Manager poured a cup of hot water from the dispenser for him. “Follow me to inspect the hotel later. It might help you relax.”
Jian Tao finally smiled, feeling a warmth flow through his heart. “Okay, Manager.”
The Manager smiled back and ruffled his hair again.
When they stepped out together, Gu Huaian and Zhou Jin were already waiting outside. Although they originally intended to ask about the situation, the two did not approach immediately when they saw the Manager by his side.
It was only after Jian Tao spoke to the Manager that he walked over. Gu Huaian immediately asked, “Are you okay?”
Jian Tao shook his head and said, “I am fine.”
Zhou Jin subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief. He then realized they did not really need to worry. They had not understood before, but ever since seeing Jian Tao’s original appearance, they realized that the special treatment he received was not surprising at all.
Gu Huaian glanced at the Manager nearby and lowered his voice. “Zhao Jingyu is missing.”
Jian Tao was startled, and his heart skipped a beat. “What happened?”
“We went to his dormitory to look for him last night and did not see him. We looked again this morning and he was not there, and he did not show up for the morning briefing,” Gu Huaian explained calmly.
“I am afraid he has met with a grim fate,” Zhou Jin said, his expression unusually cold and solemn.
Jian Tao took two deep breaths. Ever since the world-lines began to converge, things felt increasingly dangerous. He told the two about what he had seen the previous night. “Whatever you do, do not go to Room 404. That Mr. Zhuang is terrifying.”
Gu Huaian had known this for a long time, and he also knew the man would not hurt Jian Tao, but he was curious how Jian Tao found out. “How did you discover he was terrifying?”
Hearing this, Jian Tao paused. Under their questioning gazes, he stammered, “That food runner was killed by him.”
Gu Huaian realized instantly. “No wonder he was not in his dormitory when I went there last night.”
“How do you know that?” Zhou Jin asked curiously. “Did you see it?”
Jian Tao was torn about whether to confess when he saw Gu Huaian pat Zhou Jin’s shoulder. “Let us go. The Manager is already looking this way.”
Jian Tao reacted immediately and waved them off. “You guys go ahead. I still have to go on inspection with the Manager.”
“Well, that is a nice job,” Zhou Jin said sourly, before being dragged away by Gu Huaian.
Once they left, Jian Tao felt a bit more relaxed. Until he was certain who the serial killer was, he still did not dare reveal that he was the Rubber Man.
The Manager walked over and patted his shoulder. “Let us go.”
The so-called inspection involved walking floor by floor to check for damages and the placement of fire safety facilities. In truth, they did not check very carefully. They mostly chatted as they walked.
When they reached the fourth floor, Jian Tao felt a deep internal resistance. However, the corridor showed no traces of last night. There was not even a drop of blood on the carpet.
“What is wrong? You look a bit pale,” the Manager asked.
Jian Tao shook his head, forcing himself not to think about last night. “It is nothing. I will definitely go to sleep early tonight.”
The Manager raised his hand to ruffle Jian Tao’s hair again. Just then, Jian Tao’s phone rang. It was from the front desk. Seeing the caller ID, Jian Tao hesitated to answer. The Manager noticed and asked, “Why are you not picking up?”
Usually, calls from the front desk involved work assignments that could not be missed. But Jian Tao knew this call was definitely telling him to go to Room 404, as that was the only reason the front desk ever called him.
Jian Tao glanced at the Manager, then braced himself to answer. “Hello?”
“Hello, Jian Tao. Mr. Zhuang in 404 is looking for you. Please head over there now,” the front desk said.
Jian Tao took a deep breath and hung up without responding. He was not ready to go to Room 404 yet. Even though Mr. Zhuang had never harmed him, the shock of last night was too great.
“What happened?” The Manager looked at his shell-shocked expression.
Jian Tao suppressed his panic and shook his head, pretending nothing was wrong. Looking up, he saw the room number for 409. He suddenly remembered Xu Nuo was on this floor. That child-like person seemed to be the only harmless one.
“Oh, Manager, I just remembered the guest in 409 was looking for me,” Jian Tao said.
The smile on the Manager’s face froze for a moment before he nodded. “If a guest is looking for you, attend to them first.”
Jian Tao gave an affirmative nod and knocked on the door of 409. He heard rapid footsteps inside, and the next moment the door swung open. Upon seeing it was him, Xu Nuo rushed forward and hugged him. “Brother, why are you only arriving now? I have been waiting for you all day. You broke your word again.”
Jian Tao stroked his back. Glancing sideways, he saw the Manager had not left yet. Feeling embarrassed, he waved at the Manager and closed the door.
The Manager stared at the closed door, and his previously gentle expression turned terrifyingly dark. He watched the door for a long while before finally walking away.
Inside the room, Jian Tao finally broke free from Xu Nuo’s embrace. “I am here to see you now, am I not?”
“But you were supposed to come yesterday,” Xu Nuo pouted.
Jian Tao ruffled his hair. “I will keep my word next time, okay?” He pulled Xu Nuo toward the room’s landline. “Call the front desk right now. Say you need me and want me to stay in your room. Otherwise, I will have to leave in a bit.”
Hearing this, Xu Nuo immediately dialed the number as if afraid Jian Tao would disappear the next second.
Looking at Xu Nuo, Jian Tao finally felt a sense of relief. He thought that an obedient child was much better, as adults were far too good at disguising themselves.
Xu Nuo was the son of the hotel’s founder and a heavyweight guest. His call was naturally effective.
With the call made, Jian Tao stayed in Xu Nuo’s room with a clear conscience, feeling relaxed and leisurely. Except for the fact that Xu Nuo liked to stick close to him and felt a bit cold, there were no downsides.
Jian Tao stayed there until it was time to clock out. He had adopted a bit of a “slacker” mentality. Since the world was nearing its end anyway, he felt he might as well coast through each day.
When he went downstairs, he happened to catch the crowd of employees heading out. He followed the flow until someone patted his shoulder. He turned to see Gu Huaian and Zhou Jin.
They squeezed into the fourth-floor dormitory corridor together, and the space opened up. Most employees were not on this floor, as they had taken the stairs.
“How was today?” Gu Huaian asked Jian Tao. “Any discoveries?”
Jian Tao shook his head. “No.”
“Why do you seem so low today?” Zhou Jin asked in his usual casual manner.
Jian Tao glanced at him. Even Zhou Jin noticed. It seemed his mood was very obvious. However, seeing Zhou Jin walking along, he frowned and asked, “Are you not going back to your dormitory?”
“Not yet. I have things to discuss with Huaian,” Zhou Jin said, glancing at Jian Tao. “What, am I not welcome? Well, you will just have to bear with it.”
Jian Tao let out a frustrated noise, too lazy to bicker with him.
However, just as they reached the dormitory door, Gu Huaian’s expression suddenly darkened. “Why is the dormitory door open?”
They all had the habit of locking their doors. Now, the door was slightly ajar. Jian Tao thought back and clearly remembered locking it. “I locked it.”
Upon hearing this, Gu Huaian immediately pushed the door open. The dormitory had not changed much, but Jian Tao’s bed had clearly been rummaged through. His suitcase under the bed was also wide open, and its contents were tossed into a mess.
“Heavens, was your dormitory robbed?” Zhou Jin asked.
Gu Huaian said to Jian Tao, “Check if anything is missing.”
Jian Tao sorted through the messy blankets on the bed and then glanced at the suitcase. The items inside were scrambled, but that was not the point. The point was that Gu Huaian’s shirt and underwear had been pulled out. While other things were left in the bag, these two items seemed to have been intentionally thrown onto the floor.
Jian Tao rushed forward, intending to crouch down and pick them up, but Zhou Jin beat him to it. With a mischievous, annoying smirk, Zhou Jin picked up the underwear and held them up against Jian Tao. “Yo, Jian Tao, this is not your size, is it?”
Jian Tao’s face turned beet red. He instinctively glanced at Gu Huaian, only to find Gu Huaian looking back at him. He wished he could find a hole to crawl into.
Seeing the look between them, Zhou Jin cursed, “Damn! These are not Huaian’s, are they?”
With that, he dropped the underwear back onto the floor. It was unclear if it was out of disgust or jealousy. “Jian Tao, are you a pervert?”
Jian Tao’s eyelashes trembled, and his eyes shimmered with moisture. “No. How was I supposed to know Brother Huaian’s things ended up in my suitcase?”
“Give it a rest. I think you stole them. Are you not ashamed?” Zhou Jin said indignantly, though he did not quite know why he was so angry.
Finally, Gu Huaian stepped in to settle it. He said, “Maybe they were taken by mistake without noticing. I sometimes pick up the wrong things too. It is fine.”
Jian Tao looked at him with a grateful gaze. He thought that Brother Huaian was such a good person.
Zhou Jin felt he could not stand the sight of the two exchanging glances any longer. “I am going back to my dormitory. Gu Huaian, if you want to discuss things, come find me there.”
Zhou Jin slammed the door shut. The room fell into silence. Jian Tao stood there with his fingers nervously entwined, not daring to look up.
Gu Huaian stood just two steps away with a faint smile on his lips as he gazed steadily at him. He walked up to Jian Tao and leaned in until their foreheads touched. Jian Tao caught the scent of a cold, woody fragrance.
Then, he heard Gu Huaian speak softly, “Let us finish this world first. We will talk about our relationship once we return to the Infinite World.”
Astonishment flashed in Jian Tao’s eyes. He looked up at Gu Huaian, who had already begun helping him tidy his suitcase.
So, what did he mean by that?
