The Delicate Beauty Grabbed the Cannon Fodder Villain’s Script [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 21
“Drunk?” Jian Tao’s heart skipped a beat. He leaned over and patted Lu Jingze’s cheek, only to see the other man’s eyes were hazy and his handsome face was blank. “How is your tolerance this poor?”
At such a close distance, Lu Jingze felt his own breathing grow shallow. How could anyone be this beautiful?
Jian Tao felt a surge of anxiety. He looked around; no one was paying attention to them. Everyone’s focus was on the stage, and the waiters were busy weaving between tables. No one cared about a colleague who had passed out.
The bar was enveloped by Jiang Shi’s soulful, magnetic voice. Jian Tao looked toward the stage and locked eyes directly with Jiang Shi. He instinctively pushed Lu Jingze’s head lower against his chest. He couldn’t stop the guilt from bubbling up, perhaps because he knew he was destined to take this boy as a sugar baby in the future.
Jian Tao flashed a smile toward the stage. Jiang Shi seemed to receive it; his dark eyes were like the starry sky, deep and full of warmth.
Meanwhile, Lu Jingze’s face was pressed almost entirely against Jian Tao’s chest. His nose brushed against the smooth, delicate skin, and the rich fragrance made his head spin. He couldn’t even resist letting the tip of his tongue lightly lick the scented skin.
Jian Tao felt an itch on his neck and looked down. Seeing the boy still dazed and pressed against him, with his own collar slipping down, Jian Tao pulled his clothes back up. He shook Lu Jingze awake. “I’ll take you to the staff rest area.”
He struggled to hoist Lu Jingze up. Reluctant to leave that soft skin, Lu Jingze leaned his entire weight onto Jian Tao. “Gege, aren’t we going home?”
Jian Tao let out a cold snort. Seeing how truly drunk the boy was, he didn’t hold back on the lecture. “Now you know your limit. You drink two glasses and want to go home with someone? With your delicate skin and tender meat, you better watch out or bad people will take advantage of you.”
Hearing this, Lu Jingze shyly buried his face in Jian Tao’s neck. His skin felt hot as he asked muffledly, “Then will Gege take advantage of me?”
“Hmph, scared now, aren’t you?” Jian Tao thought the drunk Lu Jingze was far too easy to bully; a few scary words and he was already spooked. “I’m a big villain!”
Jian Tao felt Lu Jingze hug him even tighter, his voice sounding nervous and shy. “Then what is Gege going to do to me?”
“Well,” Jian Tao was still thinking of how to scare him further when someone called his name.
The voice came from the microphone on stage, echoing through the bar with an undertone of fury. It caused the lively space to suddenly feel heavy with an unusual tension.
Jian Tao looked toward the stage and saw Jiang Shi staring at him gloomily. With someone leaning into his arms, he felt a sudden, sharp pang of being caught in the act. He had been just about to dump the boy in the back when he was spotted at the entrance of the hallway.
Thinking fast, Jian Tao grabbed a passing waiter and stuffed several bills into his pocket. “Your colleague is drunk. Take him to rest, quickly.”
Lu Jingze instinctively reached out to grab him, but Jian Tao left too quickly, leaving his hand empty. As he watched that departing back, a sense of loneliness crept into his eyes.
Jian Tao hurried back to the booth, but Jiang Shi had already come down from the stage. The band had planned to perform three new songs, known as the Starry Sky Trilogy, but the third song had been cut off halfway.
When Jian Tao reached the sofa, Jiang Shi was already sitting there, his expression dark and his aura oppressive.
Jian Tao had a good guess as to why he was so angry. Jiang Shi likely thought he was flirting with the young waiter. Even if marrying his brother was part of their scheme, Jiang Shi clearly didn’t want any “green” on his head.
As Jian Tao sat down, Jiang Shi stared him down with a terrifyingly grim face. “Where did you just go?”
Jian Tao sat beside him, trying to look relaxed and maintaining his spoiled heir persona. “I just didn’t like the look of that waiter, so I made him drink a few glasses. I didn’t expect him to be so useless that he’d get drunk. I was going to take him to the restroom to sober him up.”
Hearing this, Jiang Shi’s face softened slightly. Beside them, Jiang Chengli asked curiously, “What did he do to make you so angry?”
Everyone could hear the malice intended in the phrase “sober him up in the restroom.” The group looked over with curiosity.
Jian Tao rubbed his fingers together to ease the tension of lying. “He spilled wine on my shoes. It’s the first day I’ve worn them.”
“Oh,” Jiang Chengli said knowingly, and the others believed it too. This kind of behavior wasn’t out of character for a spoiled brat like Jian Tao. He had done much worse in the past, though he had been relatively quiet lately.
Jiang Shi took a sip of his drink. The rage had faded, replaced by a cold inquiry. “Did you listen carefully to the songs I just sang? What did you think?”
Whenever it came to anything regarding Jiang Shi, Jian Tao knew to give praise. “They were great. It’s exactly the style I like.”
Jian Tao smiled, and he wasn’t lying. He hadn’t expected a hot-headed youth like Jiang Shi to write such beautiful music.
However, Jiang Shi didn’t look pleased by the compliment. He raised an eyebrow and continued coldly, “Then tell me, which lyrics left a deep impression on you?”
Jian Tao froze. Jiang Shi was definitely testing him; he didn’t believe Jian Tao had actually paid attention. While it was true his focus had been split, Jian Tao’s memory was excellent. He immediately began to hum the melody.
He sang a few lines, hitting the artistic keywords like “starry sky,” “night breeze,” and “two people.” It was a catchy tune. In the parts he had forgotten, he even improvised with his own words.
When he looked back at Jiang Shi, he found the other man stunned. After a few seconds, an uncontrollable smile finally spread across Jiang Shi’s face. The smile had a hint of roguishness, making him look like a bad boy.
Jiang Chengli chimed in with surprise, “Tao Tao, I didn’t know you sang so well!”
The other band members agreed. “Yeah, your voice is amazing. You should try being the lead singer sometime.”
Jiang Shi added, “One of these days, I’ll let you try out as our lead.”
Jian Tao was genuinely interested and agreed immediately. “I’d love to.”
It was after ten o’clock when the group left the bar. Jian Tao was the most exhausted. His driver was waiting at the entrance, so he waved goodbye and headed home.
Jiang Shi watched the car until it vanished from sight before he moved. The cool night breeze helped dissipate the agitation in his heart. He felt increasingly calm, his blood flowing fast with a decision he was desperate to act upon.
Once in his own car, he urged the driver to go faster. He thought about the explosion of fury and jealousy he felt when he saw Jian Tao being held by someone else, and the faint sense of insecurity that followed. He had to erase that insecurity as soon as possible.
The moment he arrived home, he sprinted to the second floor. He knocked urgently on the study door and pushed it open.
His brother was working. Jiang Mu looked up, seemingly indifferent to his brother’s haste. “What’s the rush?”
Jiang Shi stepped forward, pressing both hands onto the desk. “Brother, cancel the previous plan. I want to be the one to marry Jian Tao!”
His brother had always doted on him. No matter how impulsive Jiang Shi was, his brother had always granted his requests without question.
Jiang Shi’s face was full of joy and excitement, his eyes pleading. He looked at his brother, whose aura was always overwhelming. Even now, in casual home clothes, Jiang Mu’s presence was undiminished. But Jiang Shi had never been afraid of him.
This time, however, Jiang Mu waited until the joy on Jiang Shi’s face had completely faded before looking up. On his usually stern face, there was no visible change, yet a wave of bone-chilling coldness radiated from him.
“No.”
Jiang Shi was stunned. This was the first time his brother had ever refused him. He immediately protested, “Why, Brother? No one will know if we change the plan. Grandfather won’t care about the details, as long as it’s one of us!”
Jiang Shi spoke urgently, but Jiang Mu had already lowered his head to continue his work. “No. You may leave.”
Jiang Shi choked up. “Brother, I know you’re doing this for my sake, but my opinion of Jian Tao has changed. I don’t find him as annoying as before.”
Jiang Mu continued to ignore him. Jiang Shi spoke until his throat was dry. He figured his brother was simply angry at his impulsiveness in changing plans, or perhaps he was being overly protective. Since anyone who offended Jiang Shi usually faced a bad end, Jian Tao was likely still on Jiang Mu’s revenge list.
Finally, he had no choice but to leave the study, intending to try more roundabout tactics. He was confident that with enough persistence, his brother would eventually give in.
The study door closed. Jiang Mu looked up at the shut door, his cold gaze resembling that of a venomous snake. He looked like someone who had completely detached from normal human emotion.
Sitting in his chair, Jiang Mu quietly recalled the scene of his parents’ car accident when he was twelve years old, and the words his mother had used her final breath to whisper in his ear.
Jiang Mu’s pen slid across the paper with enough force to pierce through the back. “Must protect my brother.”
He wrote it over and over again, the handwriting gradually becoming chaotic, twisted, and disordered.
