- Chapter 6 - Shield: My Temporary Guardian?
Ever since adding her on WeChat, Su Yang’s life had gained a new source of joy.
That was saying good morning and good night to Senior Wen every single day.
She didn’t dare send much else, fearing she might disturb her. After all, the Senior was so busy—balancing her studies while dealing with those frustrating family matters. All Su Yang could do was send a “Good morning, Senior! Keep it up today!” every morning, and a “Good night, Senior. Rest early and don’t push yourself too hard” every evening.
She was like a dedicated employee punching a time clock.
Wen Yusheng’s responses were always very concise. Sometimes it was a “Morning,” sometimes a “Mn,” and sometimes simply a moon emoji.
But even so, it was enough to keep Su Yang happy for half the day.
She felt that her relationship with the Senior was developing in a very positive direction. She felt like a knight guarding a princess; though she couldn’t hack through thorns for her, she could at least offer a humble greeting when the princess was weary.
That afternoon, Su Yang finished two hours of high-intensity physical training, looking as if she had just been fished out of a river. She waved goodbye to her teammates and strolled leisurely toward the library.
She had an appointment to return some books and wanted to take advantage of the air conditioning to cool down.
The A University campus was vast, and the walk from the gymnasium to the library required crossing a long, tree-lined path. The 4:00 PM sun remained scorching, so Su Yang took a shortcut, circling behind the Economics and Management building.
It was less crowded here and much shadier.
She hummed an out-of-tune song, feeling quite upbeat.
However, just as she turned a corner, the smile on her face froze.
Not far away, in the open space by the library’s side entrance, she saw a familiar figure.
It was Wen Yusheng.
The Senior was wearing a white dress today with her long hair draped over her shoulders. She stood there quietly, looking like a lily untouched by the mortal world.
But standing in front of her were two men dressed in black suits.
The two men were tall and burly, their arm muscles bulging against their suit sleeves. Though they stood straight, the fierce aura radiating from their bones was completely out of place in the scholarly campus environment.
Su Yang’s footsteps stopped instantly.
Her heart leaped into her throat.
It was those kinds of people again!
Even from a distance, Su Yang could clearly see that Wen Yusheng’s expression was grim. She held her head slightly high, seemingly saying something to the two men with a look of coldness and resolve that Su Yang had never seen before.
The two men seemed to be trying to persuade her. One of them took a step forward, attempting to get closer to Wen Yusheng.
Wen Yusheng immediately stepped back to maintain the distance, her eyes flashing with unconcealed disgust and vigilance.
Su Yang’s brain exploded with a “buzz.”
She remembered that phone call from last time and thought of the Senior’s “villain” brother.
These people were definitely sent by her brother!
What did they want? Were they trying to forcibly take the Senior away right here on campus?
A surge of fury rushed from Su Yang’s heart straight to the top of her head.
She remembered her solemn promise; she remembered the Senior’s eyes, filled with fragility and exhaustion.
Protect the Senior!
This thought occupied her entire brain in an instant.
Su Yang slung the towel from her hand around her neck and, without a second word, charged forward on her long legs.
At this moment, Wen Yusheng was indeed feeling extremely annoyed.
“Miss Wen, President Wen asked us to pick you up to go home for dinner,” one of the men in black said expressionlessly, his tone like a robot.
“I said I’m not going,” Wen Yusheng’s voice was as cold as ice. “You can get lost now.”
“President Wen gave orders; we must take you back today. Please do not make things difficult for us,” the other man said, a hint of impatience creeping into his voice.
Wen Yusheng let out a cold laugh. “Difficult? You think you’re worthy?”
She was just about to take her phone out of her bag to call her grandfather directly so he could handle these two blind fools.
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed a figure rushing toward them at high speed.
It was Su Yang.
Wen Yusheng’s heart skipped a beat.
Why is she here?
Seeing Su Yang’s aggressive posture—looking like she was ready for a fistfight—Wen Yusheng’s mind raced.
A perfect opportunity to test this puppy’s loyalty had just delivered itself to her door.
The coldness and sharpness in Wen Yusheng’s eyes vanished in an instant.
Her shoulders slumped slightly, and the hardened expression on her face melted away, replaced by a perfectly calibrated look of panic and helplessness. She even bit her lower lip to make her complexion appear paler.
She took a step back, landing exactly in the path of Su Yang’s charge, her body slightly angled into a posture that was extremely easy to protect.
“What do you think you’re doing!”
A clear, angry roar echoed across the open space.
Su Yang arrived like a gust of wind, then slammed on the brakes, coming to a steady halt between Wen Yusheng and the two men in black.
She spread her arms wide like a mother hen protecting her chick, shielding Wen Yusheng completely behind her.
Her height of 176cm meant that even facing these two 180cm-plus hulking men, she didn’t lose much in terms of aura.
Her body, toned from years of sports, was slender yet lined with flowing muscles full of explosive power. Having just finished training, she carried a sharp scent of sweat and heat, and her eyes were strikingly bright—like a provoked young beast full of aggression.
The two men in black clearly hadn’t expected a “Chen Yaojin” (an intruder) to appear halfway through, and both were momentarily stunned.
“Who are you? Don’t meddle in other people’s business,” one of the men frowned, speaking with displeasure.
“I don’t care who sent you!” Su Yang’s voice trembled with anger, but remained loud. “This is a school! If you dare cause trouble, I’ll call security right now!”
As she spoke, she actually pulled her phone out of her pocket, striking a pose as if she were ready to call for reinforcements at any moment.
Hiding behind Su Yang, Wen Yusheng looked at the broad and reliable back before her, the corners of her mouth curling into an imperceptible arc.
This puppy is even more useful than I imagined.
The two men in black glanced at each other, both seeing the trouble in the situation.
Their mission was to “invite” Wen Yusheng back, not to get into a conflict with a female student on a university campus. If this blew up and reached the media, it wouldn’t look good for anyone.
“Miss Wen, we will report this truthfully to President Wen.” After weighing the pros and cons, one of the men finally chose to retreat. He tossed out a parting remark and quickly walked away with his companion.
Watching their retreating figures disappear at the end of the tree-lined path, Su Yang finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She felt her back was soaked—she couldn’t tell if it was sweat from running over or cold sweat from the tension.
She hurriedly turned around, looking at Wen Yusheng with a face full of concern.
“Senior, are you okay? They didn’t do anything to you, did they?”
Wen Yusheng’s face remained “pale.” She looked at Su Yang, her eyes still carrying traces of “lingering terror.” She shook her head, then her body swayed slightly as if she couldn’t stand steadily.
Su Yang was quick-witted and immediately reached out to support her.
Wen Yusheng took the opportunity to lean into Su Yang’s embrace.
The girl’s body was soft and carried a pleasant, faint fragrance. But at this moment, Su Yang had no room in her mind for such thoughts; all her attention was on Wen Yusheng’s safety.
“I’m fine…” Wen Yusheng’s voice was very soft, carrying a slight tremor. “Thank you, Junior. If it weren’t for you, I really wouldn’t have known what to do.”
Hearing those words, Su Yang’s protective instinct surged to its peak.
“Senior, don’t be afraid!” She supported Wen Yusheng, speaking with righteous indignation. “If they dare come again, just tell me! I’ll handle it for you!”
“But…” Wen Yusheng knitted her brows, looking worried. “They are my brother’s people. I can’t keep hiding forever.”
Upon hearing this, Su Yang also realized it was a problem.
She frowned and began to seriously consider a strategy.
“How about… how about from now on, you go everywhere with me?” Su Yang thought for a long time and came up with what she considered a brilliant idea. “I’ll go to class with you, eat with you, and go back to the dorm with you! I don’t believe they’d dare do anything to you right in front of me!”
This was exactly the sentence Wen Yusheng was waiting for.
However, she still maintained a hesitant expression.
“Wouldn’t that… be too much trouble for you? You still have training and classes.”
“No trouble at all!” Su Yang shook her head like a rattle. “Protecting the Senior is my top priority! Training and everything else can wait!”
Looking at her sincere appearance—as if she were ready to dig out her own heart—the last bit of guilt Wen Yusheng felt for using her vanished without a trace.
She’s doing this willingly; I didn’t force her.
“Then… alright.” Wen Yusheng nodded “reluctantly.”
Then, as if remembering something, she added another line.
“Junior, for convenience, could you… send me a copy of your class schedule? That way, I’ll know when you’re free.” She paused, finding an even more perfect excuse. “I’m a bit scared… scared that they might suddenly appear when I’m alone.”
This request was exactly what Su Yang wanted.
She had been worrying about having no reason to know the Senior’s whereabouts; now the Senior had actually brought it up herself!
“No problem! I’ll send it to you right away!” Su Yang agreed without a second thought. She pulled out her phone, quickly took a screenshot of her curriculum, and sent it to Wen Yusheng via WeChat.
Wen Yusheng received the screenshot. Looking at the schedule packed with classes and training times, she smiled with satisfaction.
Very good.
From this day forward, this puppy’s movements were completely in her hands.
She could “happen across” her anytime, anywhere, for any reason she needed.
“Thank you, Junior.” Wen Yusheng put away her phone, looked up, and gave Su Yang a look of gratitude and dependence. “You really are my… guardian.”
Su Yang’s heart warmed at that look, and her cheeks flushed slightly.
Guardian.
That word was just too cool!
She felt as though her entire being was fired up.
“Senior, don’t you worry!” She patted her chest in guarantee. “I will definitely protect you!”
Wen Yusheng looked at her, nodded, and then, as if suddenly remembering something, took a small spray bottle from her bag.
“You’ve sweated so much; you’ll catch a cold if you don’t dry off.” As she spoke, she lightly pressed the nozzle twice toward Su Yang’s face and neck.
A cool mist with a faint scent of mint sprayed onto Su Yang’s scorching skin, instantly taking away much of the heat.
Su Yang froze.
Smelling that familiar, cold fragrance belonging to Wen Yusheng in the air, she felt her heart skip another disobedient beat.
Is the Senior… caring for me?
Is she using her own things to help me cool down?
Su Yang’s brain, once again due to a casual action by Wen Yusheng, fell into a state of sweet confusion.
She failed to notice that while Wen Yusheng was performing the action, her gaze had—seemingly accidentally—lingered on Su Yang’s T-shirt, which was clinging to her body because of the sweat.
Underneath the thin fabric, the tight lines of muscle were faintly visible, brimming with youthful, vigorous tension.
Wen Yusheng’s eyes darkened slightly.
This junior is not only useful, she seems… rather good-looking too.
