- Chapter 23 - The Victory Banquet: The Puppy Seems to Have Drunk Too Much
Su Yang’s mood felt like it was on a roller coaster.
One second, she had fallen into a bottomless abyss of gain and loss because of Wen Yusheng’s coldness, feeling as though her life had turned bleak. The next second, she was instantly pulled back up to the clouds by that tiny “kiss” emoji in Wen Yusheng’s Friend Circle, so happy she could hardly find her bearings.
That night, she suffered from insomnia again.
She flipped through Wen Yusheng’s comment over and over, reading it no less than several hundred times. She even took a screenshot of the comment, zoomed in, and meticulously studied every single pixel of that “kiss” emoji, trying to analyze Wen Yusheng’s mood at that moment.
What does Senior mean by this? Is she cheering for me? Or does it mean… she also likes me, just a little bit?
Su Yang’s heart felt like a little rabbit was trapped inside, thumping wildly. She wanted to send a message to Wen Yusheng to ask her, but she didn’t dare. She was afraid it was all just her wishful thinking. What if Senior’s finger had just slipped?
She spent the entire night agonizing over it, and the next day, she showed up at the finals with two massive dark circles under her eyes.
Fortunately, the power of love is great. Despite the lack of sleep, Su Yang’s spirit was exceptionally hyper. She felt as though her body was filled with inexhaustible strength.
Her opponent in the finals was last year’s champion, a very powerful senior in his fourth year. But today’s Su Yang was like she had activated a cheat code. Her form was explosive. Her footwork was lighter than usual, her reactions were swifter, and her smashes were fiercer. On the court, she was like a bolt of black lightning—coming and going like the wind, unstoppable.
In the first set, she took it easily with an absolute advantage of 21 to 15. In the second set, her opponent tried to counterattack, but Su Yang grew even more courageous as the fight went on, refusing to give him a single opening. Ultimately, she won the second set with a crushing score of 21 to 13.
Two to zero.
Su Yang, with an almost overwhelming posture, won the final and became the champion of the new University Badminton League.
When the final shuttlecock hit the ground, the entire gymnasium erupted. Su Yang threw down her racket, ran a lap around the court in excitement, and then hugged her teammates tightly as they rushed toward her. In the crowd, she subconsciously searched for that familiar figure.
But she couldn’t find her. Wen Yusheng hadn’t come today.
A flash of undeniable disappointment flickered through Su Yang’s heart. But soon, that disappointment was replaced by the joy of victory. It’s okay, she thought. Senior must be too busy, that’s why she didn’t come. When I tell Senior this good news, she will definitely be happy for me.
After the match, the team coach, celebrating their victory, waved his hand and announced that there would be a victory banquet tonight at a KTV near the school—a “don’t go home until you’re drunk” affair.
The group of energetic athletes immediately cheered. Su Yang originally didn’t want to go. She wanted to head back to the dorm early to message Wen Yusheng and tell her she had won. But she couldn’t withstand her teammates’ relentless badgering and was eventually dragged along.
Inside the KTV private room, the lights were dim and the music was deafening. The group of young men and women who had just finished their matches completely let themselves go. Some grabbed the mics, some rolled dice, and others played drinking games, turning the room into a chaotic mess.
As the greatest hero of the day, Su Yang naturally became the target of everyone’s attention.
“Come on, come on, our champion has to have a drink!” “Yang-god, I toast to you! You played so cool today!” “Yang-yang, I’m draining this glass; you do as you please!”
Surrounded by the crowd, Su Yang couldn’t refuse and could only drink glass after glass. She didn’t usually drink much, and her tolerance was mediocre. After a few beers, her cheeks began to flush, and her gaze grew blurry. She felt the whole world spinning, and the music in her ears became increasingly muffled.
She shook her head, trying to clear her mind. She took out her phone, wanting to send a message to Wen Yusheng. She tapped into WeChat, found that familiar avatar, and poked at the screen for a long time, but couldn’t get a single word out. She felt her eyelids getting heavier and heavier.
Just as she was about to fall asleep, her phone suddenly lit up with a “ding.” It was a message from Wen Yusheng.
W: Is the match over?
Su Yang’s eyes lit up instantly. It was as if she had been injected with a powerful force; she cleared up quite a bit in a flash. She hurriedly replied.
Yang: It’s over! Senior, I won! I took the championship!!!
She sent several exclamation marks to express her excitement. After the message was sent, she held her phone, waiting expectantly for a reply. After a while, Wen Yusheng’s message arrived belatedly.
W: Congratulations. W: Really great.
Seeing those two words, Su Yang felt as if she had received the best reward in the world. She grinned, smiling like an idiot.
W: Where are you? Yang: At… at a KTV, celebrating with my teammates. W: Did you drink?
Looking at this question, Su Yang’s heart skipped a beat. She subconsciously wanted to lie and say she hadn’t. But then she remembered what Wen Yusheng had told her: “Don’t lie to me.”
She struggled for a long time before finally answering honestly.
Yang: I drank… just a little bit.
After the message was sent, there was no more movement from Wen Yusheng’s side. Su Yang’s heart immediately leapt into her throat. Is Senior angry? Does she dislike it when I drink?
Just as Su Yang was about to send a message to explain, another message from Wen Yusheng arrived.
W: Which KTV? Send me the address.
Su Yang froze. Why does Senior want the address? Does she… want to come here?
As soon as this thought surfaced, Su Yang’s heart thundered. Without thinking, she immediately sent the KTV address over. After sending it, she felt a bit of regret. She was currently dizzy from the alcohol and smelled like booze; she must look quite a mess. If Senior saw her like this, would she think she was a good-for-nothing bad student?
While Su Yang was agonizing, the door to the private room was suddenly pushed open. A slender figure wearing a black dress appeared at the entrance. It was Wen Yusheng. She really came.
The noisy music and clamor in the room fell into an eerie silence the moment Wen Yusheng appeared. Everyone’s gaze focused on the cold, elegant woman at the door who looked completely out of place in this environment.
Wen Yusheng ignored the crowd’s stares. Her gaze swept across the room and then accurately landed on Su Yang, who was huddled in the corner holding her phone, face flushed and eyes glazed.
She frowned slightly, and stepping in her high heels, she slowly walked over.
“Sen… Senior?”
Su Yang looked at Wen Yusheng walking toward her and felt as though she was dreaming. She rubbed her eyes and found that Wen Yusheng’s figure hadn’t vanished; instead, she was getting closer.
“How much did you drink?” Wen Yusheng stood before her, looking down at her, her tone unreadable.
“Not… not much,” Su Yang answered guiltily.
Wen Yusheng didn’t speak. She simply reached out, touched Su Yang’s burning cheek, and then felt her forehead. Her hand was very cool; pressed against Su Yang’s face, it felt very comfortable. Su Yang couldn’t help but nuzzle into her palm like a little kitten.
Wen Yusheng’s eyes darkened. She retracted her hand and said to Zhao Jie, who was already staring in a daze, “Sorry, I’m taking her back first. She’s drunk and needs rest.”
Her tone was polite, but it carried an unquestionable command.
“Oh… okay, alright,” Zhao Jie nodded hurriedly. She looked at Wen Yusheng, then at her own sister who was so drunk she didn’t know which way was up, and silently offered a prayer for her.
Wen Yusheng didn’t waste any more words. She leaned down, draped one of Su Yang’s arms over her shoulder, and then half-supporting, half-carrying, pulled her up from the sofa. Su Yang’s body was very soft and lacked strength; most of her weight pressed against Wen Yusheng.
Wen Yusheng could smell the thick scent of alcohol mixed with Su Yang’s own unique, clean scent of sweat, forming a strange, somewhat intoxicating aroma. She supported Su Yang and walked out of the room under everyone’s complicated gazes.
Once they stepped out, the cold air outside made Su Yang clear up a bit. She looked at Wen Yusheng supporting her and gave a silly laugh.
“Senior, you came to pick me up.”
“Mhm,” Wen Yusheng responded flatly.
“Senior, let me tell you, I was super amazing today! I won the championship!” Su Yang bragged about her achievement like a child showing off a treasure.
“I know,” Wen Yusheng’s tone remained calm. “I saw it.”
“Huh? You saw it?” Su Yang was stunned. “Didn’t you say you weren’t going?”
“Who said I didn’t go?” Wen Yusheng glanced at her. “I just didn’t let you see me.”
Su Yang’s heart skipped a beat again because of those words. So Senior went. She was secretly watching me the whole time.
This realization made Su Yang feel as if she had swallowed a whole jar of honey; sweetness bubbled up from the bottom of her heart. She giggled and leaned her head against Wen Yusheng’s shoulder like a clingy big dog. Wen Yusheng didn’t push her away. She simply supported her, walking out of the KTV step by step.
Wen Yusheng didn’t take Su Yang back to the dorm. She brought her directly back to her off-campus apartment.
Upon entering, she threw Su Yang onto the living room sofa. Having drunk alcohol and then been exposed to the cold wind, Su Yang now felt an unbearable heat all over her body. She restlessly tugged at the collar of her T-shirt, wanting to breathe.
In her daze, she felt a pair of cool hands press against her cheeks. Then, those hands slid down her face, all the way to her neck, her collarbone… and finally stopped at the side of her waist.
Those icy fingertips, separated by the thin T-shirt, traced ambiguous circles over her firm abdominal lines—the result of years of athletic training.
Su Yang shuddered, and her intoxication cleared by more than half instantly. She snapped her eyes open, only to crash into a pair of glistening, predatory eyes.
The usually dignified and gentle Wen Yusheng was now straddling her, looking down from above. The corners of her eyes were slightly red, and her lips curled into a dangerous arc. Her fingertips pressed neither too lightly nor too heavily against Su Yang’s beautiful vest line.
“Yang-yang.”
Wen Yusheng leaned down, moving close to her ear, her warm breath fanning across Su Yang’s earlobe. Her voice was very light and soft, sounding like she was acting spoiled, yet carrying a seductive quality that made one’s legs go weak.
“You’ve trained so well…”
“Can’t you let Senior touch it?”
