Zhan Nansheng stared at the list of recommended candidates that Ming Yu had rejected, her anger boiling inside.
“Ming Yu, how dare you!”
She took a deep breath, then strode swiftly to her car and instructed the driver, “To the military headquarters.”
Throughout the journey, Zhan Nansheng replayed her conversation with Ming Yu over and over in her mind.
Ming Yu’s strictly businesslike demeanor made her seethe with rage. After all her years in the military, when had Zhan Nansheng ever been treated like this? And what’s more, Ming Yu was just an Omega, what right did she have to act so arrogantly in front of her?
Upon arriving at the military headquarters, Zhan Nansheng marched straight to Ming Yu’s office.
The guard at the door, seeing her furious expression, hurried forward to block her way. “General Zhan, General Ming is in a meeting right now, you—”
“Step aside!” Zhan Nansheng shot the guard a cold glare, her tone leaving no room for argument.
Intimidated by her sharp gaze, the guard had no choice but to retreat to the side.
Zhan Nansheng pushed the door open and saw Ming Yu discussing the military academy’s enrollment plan with several high-ranking officers.
Ming Yu looked up at Zhan Nansheng, her brow furrowing slightly before quickly smoothing over. She waved a hand, signaling the others to leave first.
“General Zhan, is there something you need?” Ming Yu’s voice remained as indifferent as ever, as if their earlier conflict had never happened.
Zhan Nansheng let out a cold laugh, walked up to Ming Yu’s desk, and leaned over it, looking down at her. “Ming Yu, don’t think that just because you have Marshal Lin’s backing, you can do whatever you want. The military academy’s enrollment isn’t something you alone can decide!”
Ming Yu lifted her head, meeting Zhan Nansheng’s gaze calmly. “General Zhan, the military academy’s admission standards were discussed and decided by the military headquarters. Everything is being carried out according to procedure.”
“Procedure?” Zhan Nansheng scoffed. “Ming Yu, don’t give me that bureaucratic nonsense! You rejected the people I recommended just to undermine me, didn’t you? Let me tell you, this isn’t over!”
Ming Yu’s tone remained steady. “General Zhan, the military academy’s enrollment must be fair and impartial. Everyone, including you and me, must abide by the rules. If you have any objections, you may file a complaint with the military headquarters.”
“You!” Zhan Nansheng was infuriated by Ming Yu’s attitude. “Ming Yu, don’t think I won’t dare to touch you!”
Ming Yu remained completely unfazed. “General Zhan, if there’s nothing else, please leave. I still have work to attend to.”
Zhan Nansheng’s face turned livid with rage. She shot Ming Yu a fierce glare and said through gritted teeth, “Fine, very well! Ming Yu, just you wait!”
With that, she turned and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.
Ming Yu watched Zhan Nansheng’s retreating figure and curled her lips dismissively.
She knew Zhan Nansheng wouldn’t let this go easily, but she had no intention of compromising. If she backed down from the start, what was the point of being the academy’s principal?
Meanwhile, after leaving the military headquarters, Zhan Nansheng drove straight to the presidential residence.
Her anger was now uncontrollable, and she had to seek an explanation from her father.
Inside the presidential residence, Zhan Li was discussing matters with his sister, Zhan Qi.
Zhan Nansheng burst through the door, fuming. “Father, Ming Yu has gone too far! Not only did she reject the people I recommended, but she openly challenged me! Why should she be the one sitting in the principal’s position?”
Hearing the commotion from afar, Zhan Li looked up, his brow furrowed deeply.
Looking at Zhan Nansheng as she entered the room, he spoke sternly, “Nansheng, you’re already a lieutenant general. How can you be so unsteady? No wonder you can’t compare to Ming Yu.”
The final remark stung Zhan Nansheng deeply, and she immediately retorted, “Father, you’re always comparing me to Ming Yu! She’s just an Omega, why does she have to outshine me in every way? I refuse to accept it!”
Zhan Li’s expression darkened, his tone severe. “Nansheng, you’ve disappointed me greatly! The military academy’s affairs are tied to the future of the military department they’re not tools for your power struggles! Your duty as vice-principal is to cooperate with Ming Yu and ensure the academy’s matters are handled properly, not to throw unreasonable tantrums here!”
Zhan Nansheng’s eyes reddened at her father’s scolding. Clenching her teeth, she stubbornly insisted, “Father, you just don’t value me! Since I was a child, you’ve always thought I was inferior to Ming Yu! What exactly have I done wrong?”
Seeing his daughter’s agitated state, Zhan Li felt a pang of helplessness.
He sighed, his tone softening slightly. “Nansheng, it’s not that I don’t value you, I just want you to mature a bit more. The military academy isn’t something you can run single-handedly. You must learn to cooperate with others. This is a perfect opportunity to temper yourself.”
Zhan Nansheng remained unconvinced and was about to argue further.
Zhan Qi, standing nearby, quickly stepped in to mediate. “Alright, alright, Nansheng just has a strong-willed personality there’s nothing wrong with that. Brother, please stop scolding her.”
As she spoke, Zhan Qi walked over to Zhan Nansheng, patted her shoulder, and said gently, “Nansheng, don’t be so anxious. Auntie knows you’re feeling wronged. Just wait a little longer, I promise I’ll help you secure the principal’s position.”
Zhan Nansheng looked up, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. “Auntie, do you have a plan?”
Zhan Qi smiled mysteriously. “Stay calm and be patient. Wait for news from Wu Lan.”
“Wu Lan?” Zhan Nansheng was taken aback, her expression turning displeased. “She’s back? Why didn’t she tell me?”
Just as Zhan Qi was about to explain, the office door swung open.
A tall woman in uniform walked in. Her hair was tied up, her features sharp yet refined, and her long legs moved with a light, practiced grace.
As she entered, she keenly sensed the tension in the room but maintained her composure, addressing Zhan Li formally as if following protocol: “Good day, Mr. President. Wu Lan, Director of the Investigation Bureau, reporting to you.”
Zhan Li replied familiarly, “Wu Lan, there are no outsiders here. No need for such formality.”
Taking his cue, Wu Lan dropped her serious demeanor and smiled. “What’s going on? Is the family having a disagreement?”
“Ah, it’s just this hopeless.” Zhan Li trailed off mid-sentence, glancing at Zhan Nansheng with a frown, mindful of her pride.
From the moment Wu Lan entered, Zhan Nansheng’s gaze had been fixed intently on her, not uttering a word.
“Wu Lan, you’re finally back,” Zhan Qi said eagerly. “So? Has Ming Rui made a move? As soon as she acts, we’ll strike the Ming family a fatal blow. I’ve been holding back my anger for far too long.”
Wu Lan replied, “Not yet. The moment she makes a move, I’ll notify you immediately.”
Hearing this, Zhan Qi’s face fell with disappointment.
Zhan Nansheng, who was standing nearby, immediately perked up when she heard them mention the Ming family. She asked eagerly, “What are you talking about? Has the Ming family exposed some weakness? Tell me quickly this time, I must crush Ming Yu.”
“Enough,” Zhan Li waved his hand impatiently. “Nansheng, you may leave now. I have matters to discuss with Wu Lan.”
Zhan Nansheng shot a glance at Wu Lan, gritted her teeth, and turned to leave the office.
Seeing this, Zhan Qi also stood up and said to Zhan Li, “Brother, I’ll take my leave as well. Please don’t be too upset. Nansheng is still young and needs time to grow.”
Zhan Li nodded, watching Zhan Qi depart.
He sat back in his chair, brows furrowed, his fingers lightly tapping on the desk as if deep in thought.
Wu Lan stood before him, expression respectful, awaiting further instructions.
“How is the investigation into Blue Sea progressing?” Zhan Li looked up, his gaze sharp as he focused on Wu Lan.
Wu Lan nodded calmly. “Mr. President, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that Murong Xia, the leader of the Black Kite Flower rebel organization, is not dead. Murong Ruixue is Murong Xia’s adopted daughter. Over the years, she has been lying low within Blue Sea, showing no outward activity. Her true motives remain unclear.”
Zhan Li’s frown deepened. After a moment of contemplation, he asked quietly, “Any other findings?”
Wu Lan opened the file in his hands and continued reporting, “According to our intelligence, Murong Ruixue has recently been getting close to General Ming Yu and Song Xihan. General Ming has also approved the talent recruitment plan for Blue Sea and seems intent on bringing Murong Ruixue into the military academy’s trading team.”
Pausing briefly, Wu Lan looked at Zhan Li as if seeking guidance. “Mr. President, should we inform General Ming Yu in advance to prevent her from being caught off guard?”
Zhan Li remained silent for a while before shaking his head. “Not for now. Ming Yu has always been cautious in her actions. If she is actively approaching Murong Ruixue, she must have her own plans. Let’s observe quietly and see what she intends to do. Continue your investigation and make sure to uncover the true purpose behind Murong Xia’s orders for Murong Ruixue to remain undercover.”
Wu Lan nodded in acknowledgment. “Understood, Mr. President. I will continue to follow up.”
Zhan Li’s expression softened slightly, but he soon sighed, a note of helplessness in his tone. “Nansheng is too competitive. Her rivalry with Ming Yu worries me, I fear she might cause trouble. Wu Lan, keep a close eye on her and make sure she doesn’t do anything reckless.”
“There’s no need to worry too much,” Wu Lan replied with a slight smile, his tone reassuring. “Although the young lady is highly competitive, her abilities are undeniable. She just needs time to adjust her mindset, especially since General Ming Yu is indeed a formidable opponent.”
Zhan Li’s expression eased a bit more as he nodded. “I hope so.” He paused, as if recalling something, and his tone grew heavier. “As for Zhan Qi, the incident with Ming Xi’s infidelity has always been a thorn in her heart. I’ve seen how she has been suppressing the Ming family over the years. Giving them a lesson is enough, don’t go too far. After all, the Ming family still has Ming Yu, and she is not someone to be trifled with.”
“I understand, Mr. President,” Wu Lan said respectfully. “I will remind her to know when to stop.”
Zhan Li waved his hand, signaling Wu Lan that she could leave. “Alright, you may go about your duties. Report any new developments to me at any time.”
Wu Lan gave a slight bow, turned, and exited the office.
As she stepped out of the presidential office and walked through the long corridor, her footsteps were steady and composed.
However, just as she reached a corner in the hallway, an arm suddenly shot out from the side, grabbing her by the forearm and slamming her hard against the wall.
Her back collided with the cold wall, causing her to frown slightly. She lifted her gaze to meet the eyes of the person in front of her.
