The Crematorium of the Top Omega Chasing After Alpha - Chapter 35.2
Murong Ruixue said, “But what do we do now? If she doesn’t come to the company, we have no way to get close to her.”
Li Man fell silent for a moment, then slowly calmed down. “Don’t panic yet. I’ll go check the situation. If Song Qingpei really has become suspicious, we’ll have no choice but to resort to other means.”
“Other means?” Murong Ruixue frowned. “You mean!”
“If necessary, we act directly.” Li Man’s voice was cold and resolute. “We can’t wait any longer.”
Murong Ruixue tightened her grip on the phone, her heart in turmoil.
“Alright, I understand.” She said quietly. “I’ll keep trying to contact her and find a way to bring her back to the company.”
“Remember, we’re running out of time.” After saying this, Li Man hung up the phone.
Murong Ruixue set down her phone and walked to the window, gazing at the bustling traffic below with a heavy heart.
She didn’t want to target Song Qingpei either, but the current situation left no room for hesitation.
Meanwhile.
Song Qingpei, with some free time on her hands, decided to make something delicious for Songsong.
She entered the kitchen and saw the chefs busily preparing ingredients for dinner.
Song Qingpei glanced around and noticed a strange ingredient she had never seen before.
It was kept in a transparent glass container, with a bizarre shape resembling some kind of deep-sea creature. Its surface was covered in fine, writhing tendrils, and it had an eerie bluish-purple hue, faintly pulsating as if still alive.
“What is this?” Song Qingpei asked curiously, leaning closer and pointing at the object.
The chef, Aunt Li, quickly explained, “Miss Song, this is a ‘Tear Anemone.’ It can only be caught in the deep sea. It’s incredibly delicious but extremely difficult to handle. Its tendrils release a gas that, upon contact.”
Song Qingpei grew even more intrigued. Just then, she saw the creature twitch and couldn’t resist reaching out to touch it.
Aunt Li panicked and shouted, “Madam, don’t touch it! That thing is dangerous!”
But it was already too late.
The moment Song Qingpei’s finger made contact with the Tear Anemone, it seemed to react defensively, instantly releasing a pungent gas. A sharp, stabbing pain shot through her eyes, as if countless tiny needles had pierced them, and tears began streaming uncontrollably down her face.
“Ah!” Song Qingpei cried out, covering her eyes as tears continued to flow.
Her eyes burned with intense pain, and her vision grew blurry.
Aunt Li, flustered and frightened, rushed to fetch a mask and clean water, hoping to alleviate Song Qingpei’s suffering.
However, the gas was highly irritating. Song Qingpei’s eyes were already severely swollen and red, and she couldn’t stop crying or open them.
Just then, Songsong heard her mother’s cry of distress and hurried from the living room.
Seeing Song Qingpei’s tear-streaked face and swollen eyes, the little girl panicked. She ran to her mother’s side, reaching out with her small hands to wipe away the tears.
“Mom, what’s wrong? Don’t cry, Songsong will help you wipe them away,” she said, gently patting Song Qingpei’s cheeks.
But as soon as Songsong’s hands touched her mother’s face, the irritating gas transferred to her skin. A sharp sting shot through her eyes, and she, too, began crying uncontrollably.
“Waah! Mom, my eyes hurt so much.” Songsong sobbed, covering her eyes and crying even harder than her mother.
Butler Su, hearing the commotion, rushed over.
Seeing both Song Qingpei and Songsong in tears, he immediately grasped the severity of the situation. He quickly called for clean water and towels to rinse their eyes and sent someone to fetch a doctor.
“Miss Song, please stay still. The doctor will be here soon,” Butler Su reassured her as he gently wiped her eyes.
Song Qingpei’s eyes hurt too much to open. She could only keep them shut, letting the tears flow freely.
Songsong, too, was weeping from the irritation. Butler Su quickly arranged for her to be taken to another room to prevent further exposure to the gas.
The doctor arrived shortly after.
After the examination, he told Song Qingpei, “Miss Song, your eyes have been severely irritated and will need two to three days to fully recover. During this time, try to rest with your eyes closed as much as possible and avoid straining them, or the symptoms may worsen.”
Song Qingpei nodded helplessly, inwardly cursing herself for being so foolish as to touch that “tear sea anemone.”
She lay in bed, her eyes tightly shut, yet tears continued to stream down uncontrollably.
She didn’t even eat dinner, feeling completely listless and in an extremely foul mood.
Songsong was taken to the living room by Butler Su. Although her eyes no longer hurt, she was still worried about her mother and wanted to see Song Qingpei.
However, fearing that Songsong might be affected again, Song Qingpei had Butler Su stop her from entering the room.
“Why won’t Mom let me in?” Songsong pouted, her face full of grievance.
Butler Su patted her head and comforted her, “Mom’s eyes aren’t feeling well, and she needs to rest. Be a good girl, Songsong. Wait until Mom is better before you go see her, okay?”
Though reluctant, Songsong nodded and sat in the living room, playing with her toys.
Her eyes were still a bit red, making her look pitiful.
Not long after, Ming Yu returned.
As soon as she entered the hall, she saw Songsong sitting there with red eyes, holding a toy but looking distracted.
“Songsong, what’s wrong? Why are your eyes red?” Ming Yu walked over, crouched down, and asked with concern.
Songsong looked up and, seeing it was Ming Yu, immediately threw herself into her arms, her voice trembling with tears. “Mom is crying. Her eyes hurt so much she didn’t even eat dinner. I feel so bad for her, but she won’t let me go in to see her.”
Ming Yu was taken aback.
Song Qingpei was crying? And crying so hard she skipped dinner?
Her heart tightened. Song Qingpei had always been a strong person, rarely showing vulnerability in front of her. This time, she was crying so intensely over resigning that she had even resorted to starving herself.
“Your mom really cried?” she still couldn’t quite believe it.
Songsong nodded, her little face full of worry. “Mom’s eyes are so red, and she keeps crying.”
Ming Yu grew even more uneasy.
She hadn’t expected things to escalate to this extent. After a moment of hesitation, she decided to go upstairs and check on Song Qingpei.
She walked slowly to the door of Song Qingpei’s room.
Ming Yu knocked gently, and a weak voice came from inside. “Who is it?”
“It’s me,” Ming Yu said softly.
There was a brief silence in the room before Song Qingpei’s voice sounded again. “Come in.”
Ming Yu pushed the door open and entered.
The room was dimly lit. Song Qingpei lay on the bed, her eyes tightly shut, tear stains still visible on her face.
Her eyes were severely swollen, and she looked utterly exhausted.
Seeing this, Ming Yu’s heart ached.
She walked to the bedside and spoke with rare gentleness, “Are you, okay?”
Hearing Ming Yu’s words, Song Qingpei thought she already knew about her embarrassing mishap, and a wave of bitterness washed over her. This was truly humiliating.
She struggled to open her eyes, trying not to appear so disheveled, and said in a hoarse voice, “I’m fine. I’m feeling better now.”
Hearing her extremely raspy voice and seeing her swollen eyes, Ming Yu felt another pang of sorrow, as if pricked by countless needles. She had never felt this distressed, even when she herself was hurt.
She opened her mouth, trying to say something, but didn’t know how to express it.
In the end, she could only manage to blurt out, “You can’t possibly skip a meal just because of this, can you?”
Song Qingpei felt even more embarrassed and turned her face away. “I’m not hungry. My eyes are just a bit uncomfortable, I’ll be fine after some rest.”
Seeing her turn her face away, Ming Yu thought she was still angry and didn’t want to see her, which made her feel even worse. She wanted to explain and coax her but was too clumsy to find the right words.
After a long silence, she conceded, “Don’t be angry anymore. I’ll do anything you ask.”
Surprised by Ming Yu’s sudden declaration, she felt more puzzled than anything else.
Has the sun risen from the west?
She lifted her head and, though her vision was blurry, strained to look in Ming Yu’s direction. “What did you say?”
Ming Yu bit her lip, her voice dropping lower. “I said, don’t be angry with me. I’ll do anything.”
Only then did Song Qingpei realize that Ming Yu thought she was still upset about being forced to resign. A flicker of amusement stirred within her, and she couldn’t help but find it somewhat funny.
Never expecting Ming Yu to go this far just to appease her, she deliberately asked, “Really? Anything?”
Though aware that Song Qingpei might not see clearly, Ming Yu nodded solemnly. “Yes, except for working at Blue Sea.”
Song Qingpei raised an eyebrow, a mischievous idea forming in her mind.
She feigned seriousness and said, “Then, what about custody of Sangsang?”
Ming Yu’s expression instantly darkened, her tone turning cold and rigid. “Not that.”
Seeing Ming Yu’s strong reaction, Song Qingpei found it even more amusing. She pretended to be annoyed and complained, “This isn’t allowed, that isn’t allowed and you claim you’ll do anything.”
The usually strict and principled general now found herself at a loss for words.
After a moment of silence, she said earnestly, “Aside from those two things, I really will do anything.”
“What if that’s still not enough?” Song Qingpei pressed, deliberately making things difficult.
Ming Yu, who never made empty promises, fell silent for a moment before asking quietly, “What do you suggest?”
It was a good question, one she hadn’t actually thought through.
Truthfully, after learning the truth from Ming Rui, most of Song Qingpei’s anger had already subsided. What remained was her frustration at Ming Yu confining her at home without explanation. She felt she couldn’t give in too easily, or Ming Yu would surely become even more overbearing.
After a moment of thought, Song Qingpei deliberately proposed, “Then, can you let ‘Mengmeng’ come out?”
In her current miserable state, facing Mengmeng would at least be more pleasant than looking at Ming Yu’s sour expression. More importantly, hadn’t Ming Yu insisted that they were one and the same, with no distinction? Well, let her taste the consequences of her own words.
As expected, Ming Yu’s face turned grim upon hearing this.
When Ming Yu remained silent, Song Qingpei assumed she refused. Coupled with the discomfort in her eyes, she lost the energy to provoke her further. She turned over, facing away, and prepared to sleep.
Thinking she had genuinely angered her, Ming Yu grew anxious and finally relented.
Gritting her teeth, she whispered, “Fine, I’ll let ‘Mengmeng’ come out.”
Song Qingpei was stunned by her compliance and stared at her in disbelief.
Ming Yu closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled a name: “Mengmeng.”
As the name left her lips, Ming Yu’s expression gradually softened. When she opened her eyes again, her gaze had become gentle and clear.
“Sister, what’s wrong with you?”
Seeing Song Qingpei’s reddened eyes, Mengmeng hurried closer to check on her, her voice filled with concern.
Hearing that familiar voice, Song Qingpei felt a warmth in her heart, and tears welled up uncontrollably.
She shook her head, her voice slightly choked. “I’m fine, it’s just that my eyes hurt a little.”
Mengmeng sat by the bed, gently cupping her face and said softly, “Sister, don’t worry. I’ll stay with you until you get better.”
Song Qingpei felt the warmth from Mengmeng’s palms, and even if it was illusory, she couldn’t help but feel a wave of comfort in her heart. Yet, thinking of Ming Rui’s words, she couldn’t help but worry again, what exactly was going on between ‘Mengmeng’ and Ming Yu?
How should she face all of this?
Just thinking about it made her head ache.
