The Crematorium of the Top Omega Chasing After Alpha - Chapter 31.2
That commanding tone again. Song Qingpei frowned. “Murong Ruixue and I are just colleagues. You don’t need to warn me in such a demanding tone. Besides, I’m not your subordinate. I don’t need to report to you about who I interact with, General Ming Yu!” She deliberately emphasized the last four words.
Ming Yu was taken aback by her retort, a hint of grievance creeping into her voice. “Why can’t you treat me the way you treat Mengmeng? We’re the same person, after all!”
Song Qingpei’s eyes darkened as she shot back, “And what about you? Why can’t you treat me the way Mengmeng does? The you from last night wouldn’t have spoken to me like this.”
Ming Yu was momentarily speechless. Remembering how she had acted coquettishly in Song Qingpei’s arms the night before, she averted her gaze uncomfortably and murmured, ” I can’t be like that.”
“So, I can’t treat you the same way I treat Mengmeng.” Song Qingpei’s tone was calm. “I can understand you, and I ask that you understand me as well. General Ming, don’t be a hypocrite.”
Ming Yu opened her mouth to retort but found she had nothing to say.
Just then, her communicator suddenly rang, breaking the tense atmosphere in the room.
Ming Yu glanced down and saw that it was Ming Rui calling.
She answered the call, and Ming Rui’s voice came through the communicator, “Cousin, Murong Ruixue’s background has some issues. I’ll explain it to you in person.”
Ming Yu’s heart tightened, immediately realizing that the situation might be more complicated than she had imagined.
She hurriedly said to Song Qingpei, “I have something to attend to,” and stood up to leave the room.
Song Qingpei watched her hurried departure, knowing full well that Ming Yu was hiding something but having no time to press for answers. She could only sigh helplessly.
Ming Yu quickly left the house and, after getting into her car, immediately dialed Ming Rui’s communicator.
“Ming Rui, where are you now?”
Ming Rui replied, “Cousin, I’m waiting for you in my office at the military headquarters building.”
After hanging up, Ming Yu’s mood grew even heavier.
She didn’t know what Ming Rui had discovered, but her intuition told her that Murong Ruixue’s identity might not be as simple as it seemed.
Upon arriving at the military headquarters building, Ming Yu headed straight for the office.
Pushing the door open, she found Ming Rui holding a document, her brow furrowed.
Seeing Ming Yu enter, Ming Rui immediately stood up and handed the document over. “Cousin, take a look at this first.”
Ming Yu took the document and quickly skimmed through it.
As she read further, her expression grew increasingly grave.
One piece of information in Murong Ruixue’s background investigation caught her attention.
The document indicated that Murong Ruixue was actually connected to Murong Xia, the secret founder of Blue Ocean Group, who had close ties with the remnants of the Black Iris rebel forces. Murong Xia should have been executed long ago but had suddenly reappeared and made contact with Murong Ruixue.
The Federal Investigation Bureau was secretly investigating the matter.
“Black Iris?” Ming Yu looked up sharply at Ming Rui. “Wasn’t that organization already eradicated? How could it be connected to Murong Ruixue?”
Ming Rui nodded, her tone serious. “Exactly. The President is taking this matter very seriously and has ordered the Federal Investigation Bureau to investigate with full force. Sis, I suspect Murong Ruixue’s approach to Song Qingpei might have ulterior motives.”
Ming Yu’s brow furrowed, a wave of unease washing over her.
She didn’t believe it was a mere coincidence that Murong Ruixue had recruited Song Qingpei into Blue Ocean Group at this time and deliberately gotten close to her. There had to be another purpose.
“What do you think her goal is?” Ming Yu asked quietly.
Ming Rui shook her head, a hint of uncertainty in her voice. “It’s unclear for now, but I think her target might be you. After all, as both the heir of the Ming family and the founder of the Advanced Military Academy, if she’s truly working for the Black Iris rebel organization, her motives can’t be simple.”
After a moment of contemplation, Ming Yu said, “Whatever her goal is, continue the investigation. Notify me immediately if there are any new findings.”
“I’ve already arranged for people to monitor Murong Ruixue’s every move, but to avoid alerting her, we can’t take any coercive measures against her for now.”
“Good.” Ming Yu felt reassured by her thorough consideration.
“Cousin, do be careful. I’ll take my leave now.”
After seeing Ming Rui off, Ming Yu sat in her office, fingers lightly tapping on the desk, her gaze sharp and cold.
Her mind kept replaying the information Ming Rui had provided about Murong Ruixue, especially her connection to the rebel organization “Black Iris.” Although there was no concrete evidence yet, Murong Ruixue’s appearance was far from coincidental.
She picked up her communicator and dialed Song Xihan’s number.
“Xihan, come to my office.”
Before long, Song Xihan pushed the door open, a look of confusion on her face. “Ming Yu, you wanted to see me?”
Ming Yu nodded, gesturing for her to sit, then handed over the file in her hand. “Take a look at this first.”
Song Xihan took the file and quickly skimmed through it.
As she read further, her eyes flashed with shock. “Murong Ruixue suspected of being connected to the Black Iris organization? How is that possible?”
“There’s no solid evidence yet, but her background is indeed not simple. I need you to help me probe her.”
Song Xihan’s expression turned serious. “What do you plan to do?”
Ming Yu pondered for a moment before speaking slowly, “Under the pretense of catching up, invite her to dinner tonight.”
Song Xihan hesitated slightly. “Won’t that alert her? If she really is involved, our direct contact might make her wary.”
“No,” Ming Yu shook her head confidently. “It’s just catching up. Weren’t you and her in the same military academy class? Talk about the old days. I’ll invite Qingpei along, she shouldn’t suspect anything.”
After a moment’s thought, Song Xihan nodded in agreement. “Alright, I’ll arrange it.”
At the same time, Ming Yu dialed Song Qingpei’s communicator.
“Let’s have dinner together tonight.”
Song Qingpei paused, a hint of surprise in her tone. “Dinner? Why so suddenly?”
Ming Yu tried to soften her tone as she explained, “Xihan is treating. Murong Ruixue will be there too, it’s a good chance to get together.”
Song Qingpei frowned, unable to understand why the four of them needed to gather. Aside from awkwardness, it would be nothing but awkwardness.
Just as she was about to refuse, Song Xihan’s voice suddenly chimed in, enthusiastically inviting her to dinner. Unable to decline, Song Qingpei reluctantly gave in.
“Alright, I’ll be there.”
In the evening, Ming Yu and Song Xihan headed to the restaurant together.
On the way, Song Xihan couldn’t help but ask, “Ming Yu, do you really suspect Murong Ruixue is connected to Black Iris? Her background has always been clean.”
“A clean background doesn’t mean there’s no problem,” Ming Yu replied, a trace of coldness in her tone. “The remnants of the Black Iris rebels have been lurking in the shadows. Murong Ruixue’s appearance is too coincidental, we have to be cautious.”
Song Xihan nodded. “I understand. Tonight, I’ll try to steer the conversation and see if I can find any clues from her words.”
Ming Yu gave a slight nod and said nothing more.
After arriving at the restaurant, the two placed their orders first, then sat by the window, waiting for the other two to arrive.
Before long, Song Qingpei and Murong Ruixue entered the restaurant together.
Murong Ruixue was dressed in a sharp professional outfit, a bright smile on her face, while Song Qingpei seemed somewhat distracted, her gaze occasionally drifting toward Ming Yu, a complex emotion in her eyes.
“Sorry we’re late,” Murong Ruixue greeted with a smile before taking a seat next to Song Xihan.
Song Qingpei hesitated for a moment, then Mingyu spoke up, “Qingpei, sit beside me.”
Song Qingpei’s gaze lingered on Mingyu briefly before she finally walked over and took a seat next to her.
Once the four of them were seated, the atmosphere grew somewhat awkward.
Song Xihan broke the silence first, smiling as she addressed Murong Ruixue, “Ruixue, it’s been a while. How has work been lately?”
Murong Ruixue responded with a light smile, her tone relaxed, “Not bad. Blue Ocean Group has several major projects underway, keeping me quite busy. And you? I heard you’ve been helping General Ming prepare for the advanced military academy?”
Song Xihan nodded, steering the conversation toward the past. “Yes, so busy I barely have time to catch my breath. Speaking of which, we weren’t this busy back in our military academy days. You were quite the star back then everyone admired you.”
Murong Ruixue smiled faintly. “We were young then. Thinking back on it now, I really do miss those days.”
Seizing the opportunity, Song Xihan asked, “By the way, did you join Blue Sea Group right after graduation? I seem to recall you mentioning you have an adoptive mother who introduced you to this industry?”
“That’s right. My adoptive mother is one of the founders of Blue Sea Group. She gave me many opportunities.”
As she spoke, a flicker of wariness crossed Murong Ruixue’s expression, but it vanished almost instantly. However, Ming Yu, sharp as ever, caught it. To prevent Murong from growing suspicious, Ming Yu deliberately stirred up trouble.
She suddenly interjected, “Miss Murong, I heard you confessed to Qingpei yesterday?”
The atmosphere at the table instantly froze.
Song Qingpei’s face darkened as she tried to stop Ming Yu. “Ming Yu, don’t!”
But Murong Ruixue smiled gracefully and replied, “Yes, Qingpei is a wonderful person, so it’s only natural that someone would cherish her. However, she has already clearly turned me down, and I respect her decision.”
Ming Yu’s tone carried a hint of sarcasm. “Is that so? How magnanimous of you, Miss Murong. Still, I’d advise you to keep your distance from Qingpei. After all, some people are better left untouched.”
“What do you mean by that, General Ming?” Murong Ruixue’s smile remained, but a chill crept into her eyes. “Qingpei and I are merely colleagues at the moment. Are you perhaps misunderstanding something?”
Ming Yu let out a cold laugh and was about to retort when Song Qingpei suddenly stood up, her voice tinged with anger. “Ming Yu, that’s enough!”
Seeing this, it was unclear whether Ming Yu was taking the act too far or had genuinely lost her temper.
She stood up abruptly, her tone leaving no room for argument. “We’re done eating. Let’s go.” With that, she grabbed Song Qingpei’s arm and pulled her away.
Song Qingpei gritted her teeth, glanced at Murong Ruixue, and said apologetically, “Ruixue, I’m sorry about today.”
Murong Ruixue smiled and waved her hand. “It’s fine, Qingpei. You should go back now.”
Song Qingpei nodded helplessly and followed Ming Yu out of the restaurant.
In the car, Song Qingpei’s expression was grim.
She turned to Ming Yu, her voice laced with reproach. “Ming Yu, you went too far today! How am I supposed to face Murong Ruixue after your outburst?”
Ignoring her question, Ming Yu insisted firmly, “Then don’t face her. Just resign from Blue Sea Group.”
Song Qingpei stared at her in disbelief. “Have you lost your mind?”
Ming Yu’s voice rose sharply. “I’m doing this for your own good. Just quit your job, and that’s that.”
Furious at her high-handed behavior, Song Qingpei reacted vehemently. “What right do you have to interfere with my work? Murong Ruixue and I are nothing more than colleagues. There’s no need for you to target her like this!”
