The Crematorium of the Top Omega Chasing After Alpha - Chapter 13
Since Ming Yu took Song Song away, Song Qingpei had been waiting anxiously.
The news Ming Yu brought back was surprisingly smooth, the Ming family had accepted Song Song’s existence so easily that Song Qingpei found it hard to believe. “I never expected your parents to be so reasonable.” she began, but before she could finish, she noticed Ming Yu’s expression darken and quickly swallowed the rest of her words.
Ming Yu seemed unwilling to continue the topic and had no intention of sharing her family matters with Song Qingpei. With a cold face, she said, “My grandmother is the one who makes decisions in the Ming family. She has accepted Song Song, so you don’t need to worry about it.”
Song Qingpei, who had wanted to ask more, wisely refrained from speaking further and turned to take Song Song to bed.
Halfway there, Ming Yu suddenly spoke up, “Come to me after Song Song is asleep.”
Her tone was still haughty, cold and slightly hoarse. Song Qingpei knew all too well what that meant.
Her heat period hadn’t ended yet; she still needed comfort.
But she didn’t want it in fact, she despised this kind of emotionless physical relationship.
So she adopted a passive resistance, pretending not to have heard, and silently carried Song Song back to the room.
Today, Song Song was unusually quiet. Perhaps she was tired, or perhaps she had met too many people, overwhelming her little mind. It wasn’t until the two of them lay in bed that Song Song nestled snugly into her arms, rubbing against her contentedly.
Song Qingpei stroked her little head and asked, “Song Song, did you have fun today?”
Song Song shook her head.
Surprised, Song Qingpei asked, “Why not?”
The little one’s ability to express herself was limited, and she could only describe what she had seen in a jumbled and confused manner. Song Qingpei vaguely gathered that Ming Yu and her mother didn’t seem to get along well, which made her somewhat worried.
But judging by Ming Yu’s reaction today, it seemed she didn’t want to discuss her family matters. After some thought, Song Qingpei decided to wait and see. She comforted Song Song and patiently coaxed her to sleep.
Then she closed her eyes, ignoring Ming Yu’s words, and chose to sleep with her daughter in her arms.
She wasn’t some on-call plaything.
On the other side, Ming Yu had been waiting for Song Qingpei to come.
She waited and waited, her body gradually warming up, but Song Qingpei never showed up.
The thought that she had taken the initiative, yet Song Qingpei kept making excuses, made Ming Yu’s face turn livid. Was she really so unattractive to her?
Resentment, irritation, anger…
All sorts of negative emotions surged, overwhelming her, driving her almost to madness.
“Song Qingpei!” she growled under her breath.
Yet, Song Qingpei still didn’t come, and Ming Yu couldn’t bring herself to seek her out again.
That night, Ming Yu endured the feverish discomfort of her heat period until dawn.
The next day, Song Qingpei could clearly sense Ming Yu’s suppressed anger.
She pretended to know nothing, silently resisting Ming Yu’s attempts to treat her like a tool. Ming Yu, after all, had her pride and couldn’t resort to force.
As it turned out, Ming Yu wouldn’t use force, but she would resort to underhanded tactics.
When Ming Yu coldly informed her that a banquet would be held at the Ming family’s old residence in three days to publicly announce Song Song’s identity, and casually mentioned that Song Qingpei would not be allowed to attend, Song Qingpei finally couldn’t hold back and gave in.
That evening, she reluctantly entered Ming Yu’s room once again to comfort her, only to be met with harsh criticism for her poor complexion.
Song Qingpei had long grown immune to such treatment. After all, Ming Yu had even forgotten that her birthday fell on the same day as the banquet, what worse offense was beyond her?
She no longer held any expectations for Ming Yu; it was simply a waste of emotion.
Three days later, the Ming family mansion was brilliantly illuminated, with the courtyard lavishly decorated and abundant with delicacies.
In the center of the resplendent hall, every chandelier shone with dazzling brilliance, reflecting the opulence and power of high society. Many guests had already arrived, impeccably dressed and conversing gracefully.
Servants bustled about attentively, catering to every guest’s needs. They silently offered champagne and hors d’oeuvres while maintaining an almost invisible presence. Soft music drifted through the air, lending an aura of elegance to the atmosphere.
Ming Yu descended the staircase slowly, radiant in a black evening gown, holding little Song Song’s hand. Dressed in a white princess-style dress with a small silver crown atop her head, Song Song looked every bit a real princess.
The crowd turned to watch, murmuring amongst themselves.
“Is that Ming Yu’s heir?”
“What a beautiful child, she’s inherited her mother’s looks completely.”
Beneath the surface compliments, however, some gazes held concealed hostility and speculation.
“Who exactly is her mother, though?”
“Indeed, we know nothing about that matter.”
“Probably someone unremarkable otherwise, why would General Ming never mention her?”
Standing at the edge of the crowd, Song Qingpei tightly gripped her wine glass, her eyes never leaving her daughter on the stage.
She knew this moment belonged to Song Song, and she ought to feel happy, yet an indescribable loneliness lingered in her heart.
No one knew that today was also her birthday.
Song Qingpei smiled bitterly, slowly set down her glass, and retreated to a corner.
Just then, a familiar voice sounded beside her, “Miss Song, we meet again.”
Startled, Song Qingpei turned and exclaimed, “Dr. Li, what a coincidence! You’re here too.”
Li Man, dressed in a white gown, wore a polite smile as she glanced toward the little princess on stage. “Song Song looks absolutely beautiful today. You must be so proud of her.”
Song Qingpei replied courteously, “Of course. She has always been my pride.”
Hearing this, Li Man remarked, “Though the timing isn’t ideal today is your birthday, isn’t it? What an unfortunate overlap.”
“How did you know it’s my birthday?” Song Qingpei asked in surprise.
Li Man chuckled lightly, “Have you forgotten? You filled it out during your medical examination.” Then she added with feigned shock, “Don’t tell me you made it up?”
Song Qingpei quickly shook her head, “No, no, of course not.”
“That’s good then.” Li Man leaned closer and suggested, “It’s quite crowded here. Why don’t we take a walk outside?”
“Alright.” Song Qingpei nodded in agreement and followed Li Man out of the bustling banquet hall.
Under the night sky, the garden outside the Ming mansion was softly lit, the path illuminated by gentle lights, serene and elegant.
They walked slowly along the path, flanked by neatly trimmed shrubs and blooming flowers. The night breeze brushed gently against them, bringing a touch of coolness and a sense of tranquility.
Li Man walked ahead, occasionally glancing back at Song Qingpei.
She was the first to broach the topic, “Have you ever considered whether this kind of life is truly suitable for Song Song?”
Song Qingpei furrowed her brows slightly, “What do you mean?”
Li Man stopped and turned to face her, “It’s nothing, just a reminder. Wealthy families are inherently complicated. Once you and Song Song step through that door, you’re destined to face these challenges.”
She understood perfectly well this life was unfamiliar to her, and for Song Song, an unprepared little girl, the future promised nothing but strangeness and trials.
Song Qingpei expressed her gratitude sincerely, “Dr. Li, thank you for telling me this.”
“Alright, today is your birthday. Let’s not dwell on unpleasant matters.”
Li Man dropped the subject and took out an exquisitely wrapped gift box from her bag, handing it to Song Qingpei with a smile. “This is a birthday gift I specially prepared for you. I hope you like it.”
Song Qingpei was taken aback, never expecting Li Man to have a gift for her. For a moment, she was too stunned to react.
“Go on, open it,” Li Man urged.
Snapping back to reality, Song Qingpei lifted the lid and found an elegant bottle of perfume inside, clearly of considerable value.
“Dr. Li, thank you so much.”
Unsure of what else to say, she could only express her thanks.
“No need to be so polite,” Li Man chuckled. “Here, try it. See if you like the scent.”
As she spoke, she reached out to open the perfume bottle and sprayed it twice. A delicate fragrance wafted through the air.
“It smells lovely,” Song Qingpei instinctively inhaled.
“This perfume was custom-made based on your pheromone test results. It’s called ‘Allure’,” Li Man said with a slight, mysterious smile. “Its effects are extraordinary just one drop can significantly amplify your pheromone concentration. I’m sure the General will be very pleased.”
Upon hearing this, Song Qingpei quickly tucked the perfume into her pocket, a flush of embarrassment coloring her cheeks. “Heh! Dr. Li, you’re quite the joker.”
Li Man winked at her, “Trust me, it really works wonders.”
Too embarrassed to continue the conversation, Song Qingpei changed the subject, “Well, it’s getting late. Let’s head back.”
Li Man nodded, and the two turned to walk back toward the banquet hall.
Unable to stay by Song Song’s side and with no one else she knew, Song Qingpei was fortunate to have Li Man by her side throughout the entire event. As the banquet drew to a close, she couldn’t help but express her gratitude once more, “Dr. Li, thank you so much for today.”
Li Man bid her a polite farewell, but as she turned away, a triumphant smile flickered across her face.
Once in her car, she immediately made a phone call.
“Professor, I’ve tested it. Even with such a potent allure perfume, Song Qingpei showed no reaction. It must be her.”
“Excellent.”
A pleasant voice responded from the other end of the line, “For now, don’t make any moves to avoid arousing Ming Yu’s suspicion. I’ll find a way to get closer to Song Qingpei.”
