- Chapter 7 - The Hyung Who Likes Dolls and Candy, The Trainee Dormitory
When Qi Ming followed Cui Yuxuan into the practice room, the first person to actively approach and greet him was a young boy with curly brown hair named Kim Woosung.
The reason Qi Ming thought of him as a boy was simply because the kid was truly not tall. He appeared to be just over 165 cm. Of course, this was partly because he was still young and had not fully developed yet.
For Qi Ming, who stood at 187 cm, speaking to Kim Woosung required leaning over slightly just to meet his eyes.
“Hello! I am Kim Woosung. Do not look at my small stature, I am already 15 years old! I only have one specialty, and that is that I really, really love dancing. I have even participated in many competitions.”
As he spoke, the boy’s round, watery, light coffee colored almond eyes looked like a pair of pure lakes, gazing intently up at the person before him.
Having finished his rapid fire self introduction, and without waiting for Qi Ming to speak, Kim Woosung let out a “Wow” of admiration.
“Hyung, you are seriously handsome. You could be packaged and debut right this second. If I were a girl, I would be the first to claim you as my husband!”
It was a hundred percent straightforward and innocent compliment.
Hearing this, Qi Ming raised his arm, using the back of his hand to hide the upward curve of his lips as he let out a light cough.
“What, what are you talking about? That is too much exaggeration.”
Hidden beneath his black hair, his fair ears turned a slight shade of red.
“It is true! Woosung never tells lies.”
Sensing the other’s gentle nature, Kim Woosung’s extrovert energy exploded. He stepped forward and hugged Qi Ming’s arm, smiling brilliantly.
“I am looking forward to being teammates with Hyung. Please take care of me!”
Kim Woosung wore a simple pink T-shirt paired with light blue jeans, the front of his shirt tucked into his pants and secured with a cowhide belt.
His outfit was unexpectedly well coordinated with Qi Ming’s look today. At the very least, Cui Yuxuan, standing nearby, had a face as dark as the bottom of a pot.
He did not know that this kid talked so much. He was just squatting in the corner without a word a moment ago!
When Cui Yuxuan noticed Kim Woosung’s bold move, the short hair on his head practically stood up in anger. He wanted nothing more than to step forward and pull the boy away.
But as he turned his head, he inadvertently caught sight of the youth’s blushing ears, which looked like peach blossoms blooming on a spring branch.
Was he shy?
Oh my! Hyung is too cute! Kiyo!
Standing next to Qi Ming, Cui Yuxuan’s mood was like a roller coaster. He was fuming at Kim Woosung one moment and dizzy with infatuation over Qi Ming’s subtle reaction the next. Consequently, Cui Yuxuan forgot to pull the two apart.
In the end, it was Qi Ming himself who gently pulled Kim Woosung’s hand away and patted the boy’s shoulder, saying he was covered in sweat and did not want it to rub off on him.
Predictably, he received a star eyed response from the boy.
Once they finished talking, the remaining person stepped forward tentatively. He gripped the hem of his faded white shirt with his fingertips and whispered:
“I am Bian He, 16 years old. Very happy to meet you.”
The last words were so soft they were practically just breath. Throughout the interaction, Bian He kept his head down, never looking up.
Suddenly, the knuckles of the hand he was using to pinch his shirt were held by someone. It was a soft and delicate touch, completely different from his own fingertips, which were covered in guitar calluses.
“I am very happy to meet you too. Your voice is very pleasant, and it is perfect for singing love songs!”
Singing, love songs?
Caught off guard, Bian He looked up and crashed into a gentle starlight. His heart felt as if it had been squeezed by something.
“Eh, Xiao He’s eyes are also very beautiful. Let me see them more next time, okay?”
Raising his hand to touch the boy’s smooth black hair, Qi Ming curled his lips slightly, and his emerald eyes curved along with them. It was like the warm spring sun stroking over a barren land.
“Okay.”
Pursing his lips, Bian He tried his best to suppress the urge to look back down as he responded.
Satisfied, Qi Ming withdrew his hand and quickly scanned the people before him. He had to admit that the scout had a very unique eye.
This kid had a standard pair of fox eyes with long eyelashes, yet his features looked obedient, creating a perfect contradiction between charm and innocence. His build was also sufficiently slender.
Just now, he had felt the calluses on Bian He’s left fingertips. Judging by the number and location, the boy was likely very skilled with instruments like the guitar.
He is a creative type.
He was not sure why, but Bian He seemed particularly plagued by low self esteem.
However, it is simple enough, he just needs to be taught more.
Meanwhile, Cui Yuxuan was muttering to himself on the side:
“Damn it, my eyes are also very good looking, right? Why does Hyung not praise me?”
The monolid cool boy expressed his dissatisfaction.
Seeing that the four were conversing harmoniously, Yin Zhao walked over to them, adjusting his suit tie with his hand.
“I am Yin Zhao. In the future, I will most likely be your manager.”
His eyes caught Cui Yuxuan secretly rolling his eyes. He let go of his tie, adjusted his glasses, and smiled exceptionally kindly.
“If some of you are eliminated, then that might not be the case.”
The certain person, Cui Yuxuan: “What are you looking at? Do not think I did not notice your gaze.”
“I know that at your current ages, you are all still in school. However, the first month of practice is very important, and traveling back and forth wastes a lot of time. Therefore, the company has already requested a leave of absence from your schools on your behalf.”
When discussing business, all four expressions became serious, causing Yin Zhao to nod inwardly. He had originally worried that these children would be hot headed and difficult to manage.
After all, the oldest, Qi Ming, was only 18 and had just reached adulthood. No matter how mature and stable the boy’s personality was, his social experience was clearly lacking.
If they were disobedient, Yin Zhao had planned to use some methods to let them witness the cruelty of trainee competition in Country H.
Fortunately, his luck was good.
“The company has arranged a dormitory for you. For the next month, stay here with peace of mind and focus on your classes and practice.”
“Tch, what kind of good dorm can a tiny company like this arrange? It is probably not even as good as the toilet in my house.”
Cui Yuxuan’s complaining was so fast that even Qi Ming did not have time to stop him.
“Hmph. Rest assured, it definitely is not bigger than your toilet.”
Yin Zhao wanted to roll his eyes as he said this. He was actually quite aware of Cui Yuxuan’s family background. By the kid’s standards, the whole company was not as big as his house.
“The luggage you sent yesterday was placed at the dormitory door after it arrived this morning. There will be a vocal class and a dance class this afternoon. Now, you have one hour to organize your things. Understood?”
“Understood.”
Noticing Qi Ming tapping his fingertips against the back of his hand, Cui Yuxuan uncomfortably looked away and obediently followed the others in replying, “Understood.”
Following Yin Zhao’s directions, the group arrived at the trainee dormitory arranged by the company. Contrary to their expectations, the area of the dormitory was surprisingly large.
Seeing this, Kim Woosung could not help but pat Cui Yuxuan’s shoulder and ask curiously:
“Yuxuan-ge, then just how big is the toilet in your house?”
Instead of answering the question immediately, Cui Yuxuan’s focus suddenly shifted:
“You, what month were you born in?”
“February.”
“I was born in March.”
The implication was that Kim Woosung was a month older than Cui Yuxuan and could not call him ge. Out of the four, Cui Yuxuan was actually the youngest.
“Eh, really? Then does that mean I get to be the Hyung! Hahahaha!”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Having said that, Cui Yuxuan left the laughing Kim Woosung behind, grabbed his suitcase, and nimbly occupied the top bunk above Qi Ming.
The Neon trainee dormitory was spacious. There were two sets of bunk beds on the left and right, with only a long white table and four stools in the middle.
To Qi Ming’s relief, the beds were at least two meters long. He did not have to worry about his legs not fitting. In his university dorm, he had always slept diagonally. It was extremely uncomfortable.
Seeing Cui Yuxuan climbing the ladder like a monkey, Qi Ming helplessly reached out to steady the other’s leg and scolded him:
“Be careful. Do not be so reckless, what if you fall down?”
“I will be careful next time. Thanks for the concern, Hyung.”
A burning sensation radiated from where his thigh was being supported. After responding obediently, Cui Yuxuan acted as if he had been hit by an electric shock and suddenly rolled onto the bed. After rolling back and forth three or four times, he leaned over the railing to peek at the youth below.
Once Cui Yuxuan was up, Qi Ming let go. Now, he was seriously spreading his own bedsheets and duvet cover.
Even though the company had prepared brand new bedding for them, Qi Ming was a neat freak and could not accept using new things without washing them first. Usually, when traveling, he would bring his own disposable sheets, bath towels, and other supplies.
Not paying much attention to the others, Qi Ming efficiently organized his luggage, keeping his underwear and towels inside the suitcase. Finally, he pulled out a panda doll and placed it by his pillow. When Qi Ming slept, he had to hold his family’s Qi Bao.
On the other side, the other two had also settled on their respective beds.
Opposite Qi Ming was Kim Woosung. He had actively asked Bian He if he could sleep on the bottom bunk because he often needed the bathroom at night, making the top bunk inconvenient. Given Bian He’s personality, he naturally did not refuse.
“Wow, Hyung, your doll is so cute!”
As he stood up from his suitcase, Kim Woosung immediately noticed the special feature on Qi Ming’s bed. Because the sheets and duvet were a uniform deep blue, the bed looked very neat but also somewhat cold. The fluffy black and white panda doll was particularly eye catching.
“Is this an animal unique to China? Eh, it looks really adorable.”
Hearing the commotion below, Cui Yuxuan also stopped what he was doing and openly poked his head out to look at Qi Ming’s bunk. He seemed to have heard of it, it should be called a panda.
“Thank you. Yes, it is. His name is Qi Bao, my grandfather gave him to me.”
He said that with Qi Bao accompanying him to sleep, Qi Ming would no longer be lonely.
He was not worried that his behavior of liking dolls would be called childish by others. As long as he liked it, the opinions of others were not important to Qi Ming at all.
However, hearing Cui Yuxuan and Kim Woosung’s praise for Qi Bao put Qi Ming in a good mood. He generously rewarded each of them with a lollipop.
It was his favorite grape flavor.
But Qi Ming was also a man who shared the love equally. Even the quiet Bian He in the corner received one.
Looking at the small purple wrapper in his palm, Bian He tightened his fingers and stared at the man’s back. A very small curve appeared at the corner of his mouth.
