- Chapter 7 - Reverse Marking, Your Pheromones Smell Different
The moment her heart felt as if it were being brushed by a feather, the sight of Ji Qianqian triggered the “original” owner’s memories within Yan Qing’s mind.
“Qinghe, do you think I look good in this?”
The young miss’s smile was bright and beautiful. Standing before the tall, elegant girl, she smiled with charming grace.
“Sister Qianqian, you naturally look good in anything.” The girl’s eyes sparkled. Under Ji Qianqian’s gaze as bright as clear stars the girl lowered her head shyly, her eyes filled with an irrepressible infatuation.
“Mhm. If I wear this, I have to walk like this.”
The rain flower stone path beneath her feet became a hazy, beautiful catwalk under her graceful, swaying steps.
“In middle school, I was voted the girl with the most beautiful walk.”
As if afraid the girl wouldn’t believe her, she turned around seriously: “Qinghe, what do you think?”
She was dressed in a light blue Bohemian maxi dress. On the tips of her toes, she spun and danced like a fluttering bird before the girl.
Like a happy little bird, so cute, the girl thought. Her palms, hidden at her sides, curled into phantom grips. I really want to take this little bird into my arms and hold her in my hands.
“Hmph, I’m this pretty, yet when you were little, you mocked me for being a ‘darkie’.” She was questioned relentlessly.
Amidst the girl’s silence, Miss Ji recalled the unpleasant memories of their childhood. She turned around and stubbornly cupped the girl’s face.
“Sister Qinghe, tell me, where am I dark now?” Stared at by those moist, beautiful eyes so earnestly, Yan Qinghe became like wood and stone. Her body stiffened, and her cheeks were flushed crimson by the heat.
“Why are you spacing out?” Ji Qianqian tickled her underarms dissatisfiedly.
“Sister Qianqian, I was blind back then. Please spare me,” Yan Qinghe gasped, laughing.
“Sigh, tell me, when exactly are you going to differentiate into an Omega?”
“Does Sister want me to be an Omega?”
“Mhm. Because Alphas and such are the most annoying.”
There was an unmistakable look of disgust in her eyes a deep-seated, terrible memory. Her answer made the girl’s face pale slightly. She heard her own dry, timid voice coming from her throat:
“Then what if… I differentiate into an Alpha?”
“Then I’ll never play with you again.” The graceful blue figure quickened her pace. Qianqian drifted further and further away, shrinking into a tiny dot.
The little bird flew away. The little bird was gone.
Thump… thump… thump… The sound of footsteps was like a drum beating deep within her heart.
A few days ago, the differentiation report Xi Zhaowan gave her showed a 99% probability that she would become an Alpha.
She hoped… she could be that lucky 1%.
Even as an Omega, she wanted to stay steadily by her side in the name of “sisters.”
The Chaos of the Sports Meet
The obscure thoughts of the original girl flashed through Yan Qing’s consciousness.
She looked at this Alpha body she now occupied. This girl, who should have been vigorous and athletic, had become somewhat frail since Yan Qing’s arrival.
If she had come here, where did the original Yan Qinghe go?
Every time her body saw Ji Qianqian, there was an inexplicable throb, as if a room in her heart held a confined girl who would surge with emotions that didn’t belong to Yan Qing whenever Ji Qianqian appeared.
Like right now.
On the long distance track, figure after figure overtook her.
“Heh, I thought you were something special. Turns out you’re just this.” A thick waisted, round shouldered boy laughed as he passed her, leaving those words behind.
She took a breath and glanced coldly. The boy was Yang Wei, an Alpha and one of Ji Qianqian’s many admirers.
Yang Wei’s lackeys jeered loudly beside him: “Haha, you think you can compete with our Brother Wei? With that weakling look, you actually want to chase the boss’s goddess, Ji Qianqian?”
“Yeah, keep dreaming!”
“I bet she won’t even make it to the finish line.”
“Possible. I remember she was first in long-distance last semester, why is she like this now…”
The rustling discussions were like a forest of noisy sparrows.
Waves of unpleasant pheromone scents various types, some like moldy lactic acid bacteria, others like expired eggs assaulted her. That annoying Yang Wei even had the gall to flaunt his face near Yan Qing as he passed, emitting a foul, sun-baked, cracked salt and pepper stench.
Besides the mixed pheromones of Alphas and Omegas, there was also the smell of sweat from the Betas, all of which swarmed toward Yan Qing’s sensitive sense of smell.
Almost there… almost there… The finish line was ahead. Yan Qing’s head throbbed and her vision blurred. Although she had physical strength left, her pheromones were surging and disordered, causing the spiritual energy she had managed to refine in her Dantian to leak back into her meridians.
“Yan Qinghe, open your dog eyes!”
Just as she reached the finish line and was about to faint, she was pulled into a familiar, fragrant embrace. An unkind voice came from beside her ear, and her cheek was lightly slapped as she lay in a warm bosom.
“Sigh, you’re not just annoying, you’re also…” Ji Qianqian supported the semi-conscious Yan Qinghe and, with the help of classmates, headed toward the school infirmary.
If it weren’t for the fact that their families were old friends, and for the sake of Aunt Xi Zhaowan and Aunt Yan Manxing, she wouldn’t have bothered.
The Infirmary Encounter
In the infirmary, Yan Qing opened her eyes to a snow-white ceiling. Ji Qianqian was sitting in a chair, sleeping beside her.
Yan Qing touched the gland at the back of her neck. In her hazy memory, a doctor seemed to have given her an inhibitor, but the truth was something only she knew: this wasn’t a problem an inhibitor could solve.
It was because of her sensitive sense of smell that her body couldn’t handle the scattered pheromones in the open environment. She had only held on this long because of the insights she gained while playing the piano with Xi Zhaowan, which had allowed her to fix some of her spiritual energy.
She had been too stubborn. She didn’t expect a small sports meet to undo all her previous efforts and worsen her pheromone disorder.
But what was with Ji Qianqian? Why hadn’t she left?
When she touched the other girl’s hand, her body’s memory habitually gripped it tight. In a flash of conscious will, she let go again.
The familiar scent of White Rose wafted over, surging into the depths of her memory such a familiar smell, such a deep craving.
She licked her lips, suppressing the Alpha instinct to mark the other person. However, the leaking scent of Calamansi pheromones couldn’t be hidden; it grew arrogant and unrestrained in her difficult state of arousal.
Her spiritual consciousness, honed through years of cultivation, was shocked by this strange and uncontrollable sensation.
“Are you still going to be this dependent on my pheromones?” A mocking voice came from her side.
Ji Qianqian, who had woken up, looked through Yan Qing and saw that look of possessiveness hidden deep in her eyes a look she had seen before.
Yes, this was the Yan Qinghe she knew. The moment she saw her, she couldn’t control herself, like a dog in heat. Wagging her tail, acting out, using her proud, athletic, and sexy body to seduce her.
“Looking like this… you aren’t hoping I’ll mark you, are you?” Her tone was derisive.
The first time was a kiss; the second time was a marking.
“No need!” Yan Qing replied coldly. She closed her eyes, steadying her body, and tried to sit upright on the bed to meditate and regulate her breath.
“You seemed pretty smug when you marked me before, didn’t you?”
Now she’s acting all pretentious and cold. What a hypocrite.
Between two A-level individuals (Omega and Alpha), the need for each other’s pheromones depends on their respective levels. Currently, Yan Qing was in a state of Alpha pheromone loss of control.
In this extreme disorder, the more she used spiritual energy to suppress it, the more the pheromones acted like rebellious children, refusing to be tamed.
Perhaps because the original owner had accidentally marked Ji Qianqian before, she fought the deep craving for the White Rose scent, covering her neck and suppressing herself.
The ABO world a group of humans controlled by pheromones. She frowned, feeling a bit helpless amidst her agitation.
Just as she was struggling through the internal tug of war, a pair of cold, small hands pulled her hand away.
“Sss… it hurts.” A piercing pain surged from her neck. Desperate teeth bit restlessly into her gland, pouring in that familiar pheromone scent.
Ji Qianqian held her hand down, leaned over unceremoniously, and performed a reverse marking an Omega marking an Alpha.
The surging spiritual energy suddenly subsided. The aggressive Alpha pheromones lost their arrogance, gently protecting the host’s consciousness and swirling to repair the damage.
“Your scent… seems a bit different than before.” Ji Qianqian licked the roof of her mouth. The Calamansi scent had vanished, replaced by a Cedar scent blended with Sandalwood.
Done again without a word. Treated this way twice, Yan Qing’s face instantly turned frosty: “I don’t believe I asked you to mark me.”
With her pheromone agitation relieved and some strength recovered, she tried to push the other girl away.
“Whatever your scent is, it makes no difference to me. I helped you despite our past is this how you treat me, Sister Qinghe?” Ji Qianqian laughed instead of getting angry.
She pressed down Yan Qing’s resisting hand. “Rest well. If it weren’t for Aunt Wan, I wouldn’t care about you.”
“Mind your own business!” Yan Qing said coldly. She had a major headache dealing with this girl who repeatedly took liberties with her.
Though her body felt comfortable after being marked, her heart was like a cat with its fur rubbed the wrong way she just wanted to push this girl far away.
As a 100-year-old soul from her previous life, being helpless against an 18-year-old girl was truly embarrassing. But what she didn’t expect was that her irritable, cat-like push would make her want to avoid Ji Qianqian for the next month.
An Awkward Accident
Dog-blood drama happens every year, but after Yan Qing transmigrated, it seemed particularly frequent.
As she pushed Ji Qianqian away, Ji Qianqian was turning to leave. Under the shove, her steps became unstable. Her feet slipped, and in a panic, she instinctively grabbed onto something. She fell onto Yan Qing’s body on the white bed, her sideways posture making it look like she was being cradled in Yan Qing’s arms.
Turbulent and surging.
A friendly scent, a nostalgic embrace. Yan Qing opened her eyes, feeling a bit dazed. Having just been marked by this girl surnamed Ji, her weak spiritual energy and the body’s newfound dependency caused the original owner’s body to react honestly.
She bit her lip strangely. For the first time in her life, she experienced a foreign, uncontrollable, and utterly ridiculous reaction. It reminded her of that vivid dream during her secluded meditation the same nature, but two completely different feelings.
Great. I’ve experienced it all now. This trip was truly worth it… my foot! She tried to comfort herself, taking deep breaths for a few seconds, but quickly became even more frustrated.
Can I just close my eyes and pretend I’m asleep? Her body was stiff. She wanted nothing more than to kick the person out of her arms and cover herself with the blanket at lightning speed.
Slap! A gust of wind followed by a palm strike. Her cheek stung with a burning pain.
Ji Qianqian, eyes wide with shock, turned and slapped her. Just as Yan Qing had the thought of kicking her away, she felt a sharp pain in her waist and abdomen she was kicked right off the bed.
“Yan Qinghe, are you a dog? Getting ‘aroused’ the moment you touch someone.”
Even if they had good memories, the terrible memories that followed had soured their childhood friendship. In a mix of disgust and complex emotions, Ji Qianqian left with a cold face.
Her face hurt, her legs hurt, her waist hurt… and somewhere else hurt. Yan Qing covered her face. What does Yan Qinghe’s reaction have to do with me, Yan Qing? The explanation felt pale and powerless.
Back at the Yan Residence
In the living room, a woman held an ice pack against the girl’s cheek, her eyes full of heartache.
Yan Qing lifted her face, accepting Xi Zhaowan’s care. The woman didn’t ask, and Yan Qing hadn’t thought of how to explain.
“Qing’er, it must hurt a lot.” Xi Zhaowan suppressed her curiosity. She refrained from asking because the girl’s other cheek, flushed with annoyance and embarrassment, signaled she didn’t want to talk about it.
Qing’er had grown up, she should be given her own space. If she wanted to speak, she would. It was just that the swollen area red against white was heart wrenching to look at.
“It’s fine. Thank you…”
“Do you need to be so distant with me?”
“Thank you… Aunt Zhaowan.” Yan Qing lowered her head and stood up, but a flash of pain came from her waist where she had been kicked.
The force of that kick really didn’t seem like it came from an Omega. Since coming to the ABO world, Yan Qing felt that she was more like a physically weak Omega.
“Is your waist injured too?” Xi Zhaowan supported Yan Qing. The girl was 177cm tall, a bit taller than her, and it took some effort to help her sit back down.
“Let me see the injury, okay?”
“No need, Aunt Wan.” The faint scent of White Gardenia lingered. Xi Zhaowan lowered her head, her slender hand reaching out, intending to lift the girl’s shirt.
Involuntarily, Yan Qing thought of that dream the dream where she was like a clam being pried open, layer by layer, belt by belt, slowly stripped bare.
