- Chapter 6 - A Strange Feeling
Her heart felt as if it were being tickled by a feather…
It was the second week since she had arrived in the ABO world. Yan Qing was gradually adapting to her life at Hanyu High School.
Her sensitivity to smells had also been somewhat alleviated. This was thanks to the opportunity she had to play the piano with Xi Zhaowan, which allowed her to enter a state of meditative focus and repair her spiritual meridians with spiritual energy.
After that brief interlude, her interactions with Xi Zhaowan returned to the usual busy rhythm of school life once the weekend ended. Yan Qing recalled the original host’s way of speaking and worked hard not to reveal any more flaws in her act.
In the eyes of others, Yan Qing’s state of “sleeping” during class and continuing to “sleep” during breaks was no different from her old self. However, every time a teacher called her name, she could answer any question flawlessly. Gradually, the teachers stopped caring whether she was actually asleep or just resting her eyes.
The students of Hangyu were curious: Was Yan Qing’s sudden change due to guidance from a hidden master, or had the former academic failure suddenly decided to turn over a new leaf?
Could all of this be to win the favor of the eldest Miss Ji? Many Alphas were watching Yan Qing. What she didn’t know was that her academic progress had forced the group of Alphas and a few Omegas in Ji Qianqian’s “simp camp” to also put on an act of being studious and hardworking.
In a prestigious school like Hangyu, Yan Qing who came from the powerful Yan family was destined to attract an unusual amount of attention. Among these scattered gazes, there was one pair of familiar, beautiful eyes that fell upon her from time to time.
In the week or so since the “Mask Incident,” Yan Qing had indeed kept her resolve; she hadn’t brought Ji Qianqian breakfast even once, nor had she initiated a single conversation.
Even when Ji Qianqian walked past her back desk feigning indifference with her seaweed-like long hair, pale blue gauze dress, and meticulously styled appearance this aristocratic Alpha didn’t even lift her eyelids. She always looked like she couldn’t wake up, sitting like an old monk in meditation, seemingly asleep yet not.
Did Yan Qing play too many games last night? Or has her nightlife been too rich lately? Ji Qianqian curled her lip. For the first time in her life, she felt a spark of curiosity regarding the private life of this Alpha she had previously ignored.
But all she saw was Yan Qing sleeping. As expected, she can’t change her nature as a slacker, Ji Qianqian thought. Looking at those thin but straight shoulders and that drooping head, she couldn’t explain why a hint of disappointment flickered in her heart.
A slacker? The truth was that there was no cultivator more diligent than Yan Qing. She meditated during class and meditated after class. At home, she would consciously sit in the full lotus position, but since that posture was inconvenient at school, she simply sat upright in her seat and meditated silently within the sea of her consciousness.
She was not only aware of Ji Qianqian’s approach, but she even captured the scent of the other’s pheromones. She frowned slightly, due to the body’s physical memory, she was far more sensitive to Ji Qianqian’s pheromones than to those of any other ABO gender.
This was already the third time. Yan Qing, in her state of “false sleep,” sighed in her heart with her eyes half-closed. She needed stronger concentration to prevent the pheromones from interfering with the flow of her spiritual energy.
What is this Miss Ji doing, hovering around me for no reason? She took a deep breath and felt a dull pain deep in her chest. This frail body had suffered a powerful shock from spiritual backlash during the soul transmigration. She had to repair her spiritual power so she could return to her original cultivation world the Light Spirit Continent.
Deep down, she found this ABO world quite strange. The six genders clashed with the concepts of the two-gender cultivation world she came from. Even her own body, which had differentiated into an Alpha, possessed a biological structure that simply could not exist in the world of cultivation.
Although she didn’t eat much, she still needed the indispensable “nectar of life” water. Consequently, every time Yan Qing walked into the female Alpha restroom or took a shower at home, she felt a sense of confusion and embarrassment regarding the original host’s body.
When the hundred-year-old Master Yan possessed the body of a beautiful seventeen-year-old Alpha, she would still close her eyes while washing, her delicate brows furrowed as she muttered to herself:
“The cause of my great trouble is that I have a body. If I had no body, what trouble could I have?”
I’ll get used to it… just get used to it.
These sophisticated, leisurely words, paired with her fair, flower-like youthful face, were somewhat endearingly funny.
The phrase Yan Qing repeated like a mantra originated from Laozi’s Tao Te Ching. In the ABO world, the interpretation of this sentence is: The reason people have great troubles is that they have concepts of personal honor, disgrace, and interest if they had no such concepts, what disasters would they have?
In Yan Qing’s cultivation world, however, the sentence held another layer of meaning: A person’s troubles and obsessions all revolve around this “stinking skin bag” of a physical body. If one’s cultivation can reach a level where they are no longer bound by their physical form, then there are no more troubles.
The two worlds had different physical foundations, which led to different metaphysical concepts. Since Yan Qing arrived in this world, despite her efforts to absorb knowledge through the original host’s memories, changing her fundamental beliefs was not something that could be done overnight.
Fortunately, having spent most of her hundred years in cultivation, her character was extremely firm. Her cultivation of “detachment from the self” allowed her to avoid excessive distress over the parts of her current body she couldn’t change.
At least, for the moment, that was what she firmly believed.
She was determined not to let the changes in her body cause any disharmony or “mortal” distractions. Nor would she, as a transmigrator, show any signs of weakness in this world.
Little did she know, the harder she set her resolve now, the faster her “face slapping” moment would arrive!
Unlike her current sickly state, the original host had been an athletic girl. Above her vest lines were firm muscles. The original host loved running to the sports field after class and was quite skilled at basketball, volleyball, long distance running, and the high jump.
Every year at the sports meet, she would contribute to the class’s medals. This was one of the reasons why, despite being a “slacker,” she was relatively popular among the Omegas.
Now that Yan Qing had wiped away the “slacker” label, it seemed there was nothing she couldn’t do. Everyone was naturally looking forward to her showing her brilliance at the sports meet, proving she was excellent in both academics and athletics.
Yan Qing hadn’t originally wanted to participate, but for this year’s sports meet, the original host had already signed up for the long distance run with the sports representative last semester.
Perhaps seeing Yan Qing’s name on the list, the eldest Miss Ji decided to join the fun for once. Leveraging her own advantages, she signed up for the sprint.
Yan Qing figured that while her current physical strength might not match the original host’s, she had enough confidence in her explosiveness and endurance. Taking first place shouldn’t be a problem.
“A mere long distance race. I shall simply take the first prize,” Yan Qing thought indifferently. During her time as a cultivator, she traveled by sword; in a single breath, she could fly hundreds or thousands of meters.
What could a circular running track possibly do to her?
“Qinghe, go for it! Qinghe, fighting!” A group of Omegas formed a cheerleading squad, standing at the finish line, waving signs and shouting.
Looking at the signs in the distance, Yan Qing smiled slightly. At the start, she was able to run as if she were taking a leisurely stroll. She even had the spare energy to glance at a graceful figure on another track while running.
There was Ji Qianqian, performing warm-up exercises for her sprint long legs stretching, slender waist tilting. Her neck was elegant and fair, her slightly arched back possessed the agility of a leopard. Her relaxed gaze sharpened, and her small ears perked up like a white cat’s, listening for the referee’s starting gun.
In Yan Qing’s sensitive vision, she seemed to see Ji Qianqian’s fair earlobe twitch slightly after the gun went off. At that moment, it felt as if Yan Qing’s heart no longer belonged to her; it felt as if it were being tickled by a feather.
Like a bystander, she frowned and stared at this strange body, contemplating the peculiar feeling that had just surged within it.
