- Chapter 31 - If You Won't Kiss Me, Then I'll Kiss You...
In the dilapidated factory, atop a messy, large bed, the disheveled yet still beautiful Ji Qianqian held onto Yan Qing tightly.
The soul consciousness within Yan Qing’s body. Yan Qinghe, sensed Yan Qing’s marking of Ji Qianqian and the scene before her eyes. As she wished, she suppressed her heartache and spoke to Yan Qing:
“Yan Qing, I’m entering a state of deep sleep for a while. This advance usage cost me too much spiritual power.”
“While I’m away, please make sure to take good care of Qianqian. Consider it repayment for occupying my body.”
Yan Qing felt even more uncomfortable than Qinghe, though not because of Ji Qianqian. She replied in her mind, “As long as she doesn’t go too far.”
Yan Qinghe huffed. “Don’t get a bargain and then act like a victim. The current Qianqian is much gentler than before.” She was referring to how, since Yan Qing crossed into her body, Ji Qianqian had actually become closer to her.
“It’s clear Qianqian still has me in her heart. So, before I return, you absolutely must not let her be sad, or I won’t let you off.”
Fortunately, Yan Qinghe understood that the cultivation obsessed Yan Qing had no romantic interest in Ji Qianqian otherwise, she would never have been able to rest easy.
“From within the spiritual sea, can you perceive images other than Ji Qianqian?” Yan Qing asked with a strange expression, wondering if she had seen the details of her time with Xi Zhaowan.
“No. Didn’t you forbid me from looking?” Qinghe asked, confused. “Did you do something you shouldn’t have with my body?”
“Not at all,” Yan Qing shook her head guiltily. She then agreed to Qinghe’s request. “This kidnapping is connected to me. I will do my best to look after her and ensure she doesn’t face danger again.”
“That’s more like it.” Yan Qinghe looked at the two people still embracing on the “big screen” in her mind. “Alright, no need to hold her so tight. Separate, separate!”
“Weren’t you the one who told me to comfort her properly?” Yan Qing snorted coldly and let go of Ji Qianqian. When she tried to speak to Qinghe again, there was no sound, it seemed she had already fallen into a deep sleep.
A Fragile Reunion
Ji Qianqian opened her beautiful eyes. The first thing she saw was Yan Qing’s face. Although she had been drugged and fainted during the chaos, she had been aware of the greasy voice of the middle-aged male Alpha and the commotion around her.
She had wanted to open her eyes and get up but couldn’t. Her heart had been so anxious she nearly cried. In that moment, all the pride of being the Ji family successor and all the resentment toward the “old” Yan Qinghe vanished in the face of the threat of being violated by a stranger.
She remembered the time she was forcibly marked by a rutting Yan Qinghe. She had hated her for it, but the thought of being marked by a stranger was something she absolutely could not tolerate. At the very least, she couldn’t imagine a body that had belonged to Yan Qinghe being touched by anyone else.
Fortunately, Qinghe had come. Disregarding her own safety, she had saved her. “Qinghe… you were worried about me, weren’t you?” She touched Yan Qing’s face, her gaze revealing a tenderness she didn’t even realize she possessed.
“Yes, naturally I was worried.” Yan Qing awkwardly turned her face away.
“I was so scared. I’m glad you came.” Ji Qianqian slumped into Yan Qing’s arms, her hands wrapped around her waist, refusing to let go.
“Don’t be afraid anymore, Ji Qianqian. It’s all my fault…” Realizing Ji Qianqian was kidnapped only because the kidnappers mistook her for herself, Yan Qing didn’t push her away. “Can you stand up?”
Ji Qianqian shook her head weakly. “Qinghe, carry me, okay? I can’t walk.” Her radiant face, as the flush of the drug faded, looked like a white rose struck by frost.
She stretched out her arms childishly, like a toddler asking for candy. Just a hug, hold me, her eyes pleaded with her. She was acting spoiled, just as she used to when her relationship with the original Yan Qinghe was good.
Yan Qing sighed. She stuffed her phone into her pocket, along with the screen showing Xi Zhaowan’s message saying “let’s not meet again.” In an instant, her arms were filled with a soft, fragrant warmth. Ji Qianqian hung weakly against her. “Qinghe, I’m so tired. Can I sleep for a bit?”
“Okay, close your eyes.” Yan Qing was puzzled. She had called the Ji family, yet there was no reaction from them at all, as if they didn’t care.
Ji Qianqian kept her eyes fixed on her. Despite the exhaustion from the drugs, she wouldn’t close them. “You won’t leave me… you won’t leave me alone, right?”
“I won’t. Rest assured.”
“But you’ve been ignoring me lately,” Ji Qianqian pouted. “It’s not like it used to be.”
Yan Qing didn’t want to stay on that filthy bed any longer. She stood up, lifting Ji Qianqian with her. In a panic, Ji Qianqian hooked her arms even tighter around Yan Qing’s neck.
“I haven’t been ignoring you. Just sleep.” Yan Qing didn’t want to explain too much in this setting.
“I need a kiss before I can sleep.” Like a baby needing a goodnight kiss.
Yan Qing was speechless. Could the Great Miss not save her whims for a better time? She pretended not to hear. After taking photos of the three kidnappers and calling the police to report the location, she carried her out.
“Fine, then I’ll just kiss you instead.” In her fragile state, the Miss’s childishness flared up. Yan Qing was caught off guard by a kiss on the cheek.
“Ji Qianqian, if you do that again, I’m putting you down.” Yan Qing was annoyed. She didn’t even have a free hand to wipe her face. She made a mock gesture of dropping her.
“No! Qinghe!” Ji Qianqian gasped. The bridal carry was instantly transformed into a “kangaroo hug” as she clung to Yan Qing’s front.
“Loosen up a bit.” Yan Qing was being pressed so hard by the softness she could barely breathe. Her low mood, stirred by the drama with Xi Zhaowan, was now replaced by pure exasperation and shame. “Do you want to go home or not? If not, you can sleep here.” Facing Ji Qianqian, she couldn’t even maintain her “gentlemanly” facade.
“No, let’s go now. Take me home,” Ji Qianqian behaved herself, her grip on Yan Qing’s neck becoming steadier. “I don’t want to go back alone.”
“Fine.” Yan Qing covered her eyes. Long eyelashes tickled her palm. She reflexively wanted to pull away but forced herself to endure it.
Once Ji Qianqian’s breathing leveled out into sleep, Yan Qing activated her Golden Core stage power. She moved swiftly from the remote factory to the main road, hailed a taxi, and gave the address for the Ji residence.
The Coldness of the Ji Family
The Ji family was different from what she had imagined. While news of the kidnapping hadn’t reached the elders yet, the reaction from Ji’s parents was incredibly flat.
“Is Qianqian hurt?” The stepmother asked with a look of concern when she saw Yan Qing carrying the sleeping girl. She had received news of the rescue earlier, but didn’t know the details.
“No, she’s just asleep,” Yan Qing explained after the usual greetings. “Where is Uncle Ji?”
“Your uncle went to contact the police.”
“Oh, is he at the station now?”
“He… he’s at the company.” Upon learning Qianqian was just sleeping, the stepmother frowned slightly. “There were some urgent matters at the office to handle.”
It turned out the father had left everything to the police and went back to work.
“Mama, what’s wrong with Jiji (Sister)?” A six-year-old Beta boy tottered over, speaking unclearly.
“Tianbao, why are you out?” The stepmother’s face softened instantly as she picked up the boy. “Is the food from the new nanny not good?”
“It’s good. Where’s Jiji? I want to see Jiji.” The boy flailed his arms, trying to get close to Ji Qianqian.
“Your sister is sleeping. Let’s not disturb her.” The stepmother offered a few polite words inviting Yan Qing to stay for dinner, then carried her own son upstairs, leaving the others behind.
In an instant, aside from the servants, no one truly cared about the girl in Yan Qing’s arms. The stepmother hadn’t even checked if “sleeping” was a cover for an injury.
It seemed the Ji family was more complicated than she thought. The “Great Miss” wasn’t as cherished as the rumors suggested.
Yan Qing felt a pang of complexity. She had intended to leave after dropping her off, but she worried that if Ji Qianqian had any medical complications from the drugs, she would be ignored.
She stayed. Carrying the Miss to her bedroom, Yan Qing remembered that when she first crossed over, she had stayed in the guest room next door. In a way, she had lived here for a night.
Unlike Ji Qianqian’s fiery beauty, her room was decorated quite cutely, filled with pink Hello Kitty items and a king sized bed with pink-gold embroidery. Unlike the walls of books in Xi Zhaowan’s room, Ji Qianqian’s shelves held mostly figurines and delicate ballet dolls.
One doll stood out. It was a porcelain doll wearing a high-end gold trimmed school uniform. It was tall and had a cold expression. It looked remarkably familiar.
Right next to it was a doll with sea tangle like hair and red lips, wearing a signature red miniskirt and a haughty, arrogant expression, a miniature version of Ji Qianqian herself.
“Qinghe, is she pretty?” Ji Qianqian’s voice drifted lazily from the bed.
Yan Qing turned. Ji Qianqian was standing there, her bare white feet on the expensive British carpet, moving silently like a cat until she was beside her.
“She’s quite pretty,” Yan Qing answered honestly, her heart unmoved.
“Thanks for the compliment.” Ji Qianqian smiled wistfully. “It’s been so long since I heard a compliment from you. I’m almost not used to it.”
When did I compliment her? Yan Qing was puzzled.
“See, this doll is me.” She pointed to the red skirted doll.
Yan Qing pulled her hand away as if burnt, her finger accidentally brushing the school uniform doll.
“And this one in the uniform is you,” the Miss pointed to the one leaning against her doll. It was a perfect, exquisite replica of the original Yan Qinghe.
“I made them both,” Ji Qianqian said proudly. “Aren’t they beautiful? Don’t they look like a perfect match?”
She pushed the two dolls back together, then reached out to take Yan Qing’s hand, shaking it gently. “Qinghe… stay with me tonight.”
“Okay?” Her eyes were moist, shimmering with a long-awaited light as she gazed at Yan Qing.
