The Cold and Distant Actress is Too Obsessive - Chapter 54
“You didn’t have to rush back so urgently, Youyan. Didn’t Actress Bo also say you should rest well before coming to see her?”
Cheng Zhun was dozing off. It was three in the morning, and the driver in the front seat was still dutifully driving. Worried he might be fatigued, Cheng Zhun had even bought him a cup of espresso.
“None of your business.”
Xu Youyan lightly kicked Cheng Zhun, then lowered her head and muttered to herself.
“I just want to see her.”
As the saying goes, a day apart feels like three years. Moreover, because of filming, the two hadn’t seen each other for over ten days, and they hardly even had time for video calls.
Time passed slowly. As the variety show and movie filming progressed, the weather had gradually turned colder. Today, Bo Zhoucheng seemed to have a scene where she had to enter the water.
Filming in such cold weather was truly dangerous.
Xu Youyan was worried, which was why she rushed over to see. Although she couldn’t do much even if she went, just being by Bo Zhoucheng’s side made her feel at ease.
Xu Youyan was now considered an employee of Bo Zhoucheng’s film company, so visiting the set was quite straightforward no proof or documentation was needed.
Xu Youyan hopped out of the car, and Cheng Zhun brought over a basket of fruit from the trunk. It was filled with rock sugar oranges, round and plump with vibrant peels.
Each one had been carefully selected by Xu Youyan.
She hadn’t expected that Bo Zhoucheng, who seemed so reserved and quiet, would actually like such sweet and rich fruit.
But then again, Xu Youyan probably also hadn’t expected that someone as icy as Bo Zhoucheng would fall for someone with her sweet and charming appearance.
As soon as she entered the set, the first thing that caught her eye was a massive glass swimming pool, with various filming equipment set up around its edges.
This production could definitely be considered a big-budget project just the value of the filming equipment alone could amount to millions.
High-wattage lights almost illuminated the entire nighttime set.
Xu Youyan was nearly blinded by the glare, but after taking only a couple of steps, she heard a commotion nearby.
“Mr. Zhou, Zhoucheng has already said she doesn’t want to see you. You can leave,”
Xu Youyan was quite familiar with Su Cha’s voice. She glanced over and, sure enough, saw that man who grated on her nerves.
“What’s between us is none of your business. I just want to see her, I’m not going to do anything. Even if she wants to break off the engagement, she’ll need my agreement, won’t she?”
Zhou Lianghui frowned, annoyed by this woman. If Su Cha weren’t Bo Zhoucheng’s assistant, he would’ve had someone push her aside long ago.
He couldn’t even be bothered to pretend.
“If she doesn’t want to see you, then you shouldn’t come.”
Xu Youyan spoke up abruptly, her tone laced with sarcasm. When rivals meet, there’s naturally no room for courtesy, and neither was willing to back down.
Hearing her voice, Zhou Lianghui turned and saw the woman he wished he could stab twice even in his dreams.
Xu Youyan.
The one who had stolen Bo Zhoucheng away.
“Miss Xu, you’re mistaken. I am Zhoucheng’s fiancé. And what are you?”
“The other woman?”
The man’s words were equally sharp, but Xu Youyan remained unfazed. Although it bothered her deeply, she couldn’t show it on the surface.
“Bo Zhoucheng told me that was just a childhood engagement arranged by her father.”
“She never took it seriously.”
After saying this, Xu Youyan looked at the man provocatively. Zhou Lianghui didn’t lose his temper but simply nodded.
“What a shame, even a childhood betrothal can be considered binding here.”
Zhou Lianghui took a few steps closer, his tall stature carrying an unspoken sense of oppression.
“Otherwise, why would Bo Zhoucheng go through so much trouble to discuss breaking off the engagement with my father?”
Xu Youyan was momentarily speechless.
In a way, Zhou Lianghui was right.
“Youyan, hurry inside. Zhoucheng has been waiting for you since earlier. She’s about to start filming in the water soon, and if you don’t go now, you won’t get to see her.”
Su Cha knew she couldn’t let these two continue arguing, or else the one caught in the middle, Bo Zhoucheng, would be the one suffering. She quickly spoke up to mediate.
Xu Youyan snapped back to reality she needed to hurry and see Bo Zhoucheng. Without another word to Zhou Lianghui, she headed straight for the dressing room with Cheng Zhun in tow. As soon as she opened the door, she saw Bo Zhoucheng sitting in a chair.
“You’re here?”
“What took you so long?”
Bo Zhoucheng’s eyes held a smile, as if she had been eagerly waiting for this moment to finally see her. She reached out, wanting to embrace Xu Youyan.
Cheng Zhun quietly set the oranges aside, slipped out unnoticed, and closed the door behind them.
“I ran into Zhou Lianghui on my way in.”
Xu Youyan had felt fine just moments before, but the moment she saw Bo Zhoucheng, all her grievances surged up like a breached dam. The corners of her eyes began to redden, as if she had been deeply wronged.
“He said, he said your engagement is still valid.”
Xu Youyan’s voice trembled with a sob, a hint of unwillingness in her tone.
Bo Zhoucheng knew Zhou Lianghui was also here, but she hadn’t expected Xu Youyan to run into him so unluckily.
“Yanyan.”
Bo Zhoucheng no longer cared about restraint. She pulled Xu Youyan into her arms, wrapping her hands around her waist.
“You know I never wanted this engagement either.”
“I’ve never liked him, but.”
Why had she stayed close to Zhou Lianghui when they were younger? Mostly out of pity. His father didn’t care for him, and he had no mother. He didn’t have any true friends either Bo Zhoucheng could see right through his so-called friends, who only stuck around for his money.
So, during their school days, she had shown him a bit more care. If Zhou Lianghui skipped breakfast, she would bring him a couple of bread rolls from home. But that extra attention had given him false hope.
“This is my fault.”
Bo Zhoucheng held her even tighter.
“Before I went to acting school, I always looked out for Zhou Lianghui. I thought he was pitiable neither of his parents loved him.”
“So, he might have mistaken that for love.”
“He’s unwilling to let go, and there’s nothing I can do.”
Bo Zhoucheng had done everything she could, but Zhou Lianghui wasn’t just anyone. With his family’s power and influence, he wasn’t someone easily shaken off.
After hearing this, Xu Youyan could somewhat understand Bo Zhoucheng’s pain and dilemma, but she still felt a little upset.
“He called me the other woman.”
“What?”
Bo Zhoucheng’s eyes widened slightly before she laughed.
“How could that be?”
“You know, you’re the only one for me in this lifetime.”
“Besides you, I’ve never been in love with anyone else.”
All of Bo Zhoucheng’s ability to empathize had been learned through acting. She understood what it felt like to fall for someone, but she had never truly experienced it herself until Xu Youyan.
So, when Xu Youyan shamelessly chased after her for what felt like the umpteenth time, Bo Zhoucheng felt her heart flutter.
She was an actress.
She could analyze the psychological states of anyone, and Bo Zhoucheng couldn’t deceive herself she was moved. She had fallen for Xu Youyan, while she felt nothing of the sort for Zhou Lianghui.
