- Chapter 12 - The Vinegar Jar Overturned
Fortunately, she had Cheng Zhun by her side. He had been here many times and was already familiar with the place, leading her through a small side entrance.
The theater staff seemed accustomed to the two of them and didn’t stop them. They didn’t even ask for identification it couldn’t be helped, Xu Youyan’s assistant was too recognizable. Although she herself was wrapped up like a mummy, her assistant stood out clearly.
As Xu Youyan walked, she took in the surroundings. The newly renovated Hengdian was quite grand, with mythical beasts perched on the upturned eaves and brackets. Just strolling through it felt like stepping back into ancient times.
Bo Zhoucheng had already finished her makeup and was sitting to the side. Su Cha handed her a hot water bottle.
Just as Bo Zhoucheng reached out to take it, someone approached. It was the male lead of the drama a popular young actor with sharp eyebrows and starry eyes, his features delicate and somewhat effeminate.
“Senior Bo, I had someone buy some hot drinks. Would you like one?”
Bo Zhoucheng shook her head.
She wasn’t in the habit of drinking beverages. Most of the time, she drank plain tea or chrysanthemum tea, which fit her calm and unassuming persona perfectly.
“Don’t be shy. I just wanted to ask for your advice on acting.”
The man didn’t stand on ceremony and pulled up a chair to sit beside her. The film was a martial arts movie, but it didn’t focus heavily on martial arts scenes. Instead, it centered more on tangled relationships and emotions.
The male lead was a member of the demonic cult, so his costume was rather revealing, accentuating his muscles. Just sitting there, he was eye-catching enough to make a group of girls whisper among themselves.
Bo Zhoucheng felt like her eyes were about to be blinded.
Involuntarily, she thought of someone. Xu Youyan was actually quite shy. Sometimes, when shooting magazine covers with slightly bolder themes, she would blush.
Cheng Zhun would always ask the photographer to clear the set. People often said Xu Youyan was pretending to be aloof, but only Bo Zhoucheng knew just how shy she really was in private.
“Go ahead. I’ll help if I can.”
Since it was a friend’s production, Bo Zhoucheng was willing to offer some guidance.
“I don’t understand if the male lead hates the female lead so much, why does he stop his sword from piercing her chest when he sees her cry? Even if there are emotional factors, he was ruthless enough before. Isn’t that strange? It doesn’t fit his cold-hearted persona at all.”
Hearing that he was seriously discussing the plot, Bo Zhoucheng straightened up slightly.
She took the script from him and glanced at it.
Then, she fixed her gaze on the male lead’s eyes.
“It’s because the female lead cried. All emotions can be suppressed by anger, but anger can’t override the male lead’s other feelings.”
Bo Zhoucheng cupped the male lead’s face and, in an instant, slipped into the female lead’s role. Her eyes reddened, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
“Aye! Just kill me, Let’s call it even,”
The male lead was stunned, his heart racing. He instinctively reached out to touch Bo Zhoucheng’s cheek.
“Ahem, ahem, ahem!”
Just then, a series of violent coughs shattered the poignant atmosphere of the lovers’ separation. Bo Zhoucheng looked up and saw Cheng Zhun. Her heart inexplicably tightened, and sure enough, she spotted Xu Youyan standing behind him.
“Yanyan, you’re here!”
Bo Zhoucheng forgot everything else. She put down the script, stood up, and, weighed down by her heavy costume, moved to embrace the person before her.
Xu Youyan felt as if a green light was glowing above her head. She took a step back, deliberately avoiding the embrace, her tone tinged with sourness.
“Why don’t you hug him?”
Only after saying this did Xu Youyan realize she had unknowingly kicked over the vinegar jar.
Damn it!
She clearly disliked this person, so why was she still feeling jealous?
“He and I were just rehearsing a scene.”
Bo Zhoucheng’s voice carried a sense of urgency. Rarely losing her composure in front of others, she now looked utterly flustered.
Xu Youyan nodded thoughtfully, the frustration in her heart having already subsided. But she had no intention of letting Bo Zhoucheng off the hook. Instead, she suddenly leaned in close, the scent of daisy perfume lingering under Bo Zhoucheng’s nose.
“Then I’ll find someone to rehearse a face-touching scene with. I wonder if Actress Bo would get jealous?”
As soon as she finished speaking, she turned to leave.
But her wrist was abruptly seized. A chill flickered in Bo Zhoucheng’s eyes.
“How dare you!”
Xu Youyan had only meant to provoke Bo Zhoucheng, but now she felt the woman was being utterly unreasonable.
“Bo Zhoucheng, are you saying you can set the house on fire but others aren’t allowed to light a lamp?”
Bo Zhoucheng shook her head.
“If you want to rehearse, just come to me. No one else is as good as I am.”
Suppressing the overwhelming emotions rising within her, her expression returned to calm.
“But you’re busy.”
Xu Youyan tried to pull her hand away. Now that she had finished visiting the set, she could leave.
“I’m free.”
Bo Zhoucheng glanced at the people around them, disregarding what they might think. She wrapped an arm around Xu Youyan’s waist and, before the other could react, carried her straight into the dressing room.
“Hey!”
“Bo Zhoucheng, have you no shame?”
Xu Youyan was pressed against the wooden partition. In front of her were the antique-style buildings of Hengdian, and the person before her was dressed in an exquisite white robe a stunning beauty in period attire.
“I don’t.”
Bo Zhoucheng leaned in abruptly. She found it strange, why was her Yan Yan loving her less and less?
A sense of panic had taken over her rationality. Just as Xu Youyan tried to struggle, her wrist was gripped tightly.
“What kind of scene do you want to rehearse with someone else?”
Xu Youyan felt an inexplicable fear, but as she looked at that face, she couldn’t help but fall under its spell.
“The same kind you were just rehearsing.”
But after all, she was only in her early twenties bold and fearless, daring enough to provoke Bo Zhoucheng outright.
Sure enough, the other woman’s gaze darkened.
Before Xu Youyan could even begin to gloat, Bo Zhoucheng closed the distance.
Like a storm sweeping away the clouds, Xu Youyan had no way to resist. Her bright red lipstick smeared around her lips, spreading like a blooming flower.
Xu Youyan felt like she was going to die several times over. It was only when Bo Zhoucheng finally pulled away that she regained a sliver of clarity.
“Don’t say things like that again.”
Bo Zhoucheng cupped Xu Youyan’s face in her hands. The other’s eyes had lost their sparkle, clearly dazed.
“I…”
Xu Youyan took a long moment to recover. She had been about to say she wouldn’t listen, but when she met Bo Zhoucheng’s gaze, an inexplicable fear washed over her. She pressed her legs together.
“I won’t, I won’t.”
Only then did Bo Zhoucheng seem satisfied.
The two had been inside for at least ten minutes, leaving the crew on set exchanging bewildered glances especially the male lead, who was still holding his script.
“How can Xu Youyan be like this?”
He muttered under his breath, annoyed by her unreasonable and domineering attitude.
Bo Zhoucheng was just explaining the scene to him, but Xu Youyan came over and threw a tantrum for no reason, getting jealous. Even if she was his girlfriend, such a temper was just too much.
Yet, Bo Zhoucheng still indulged her.
“There’s no helping it. Actress Bo just eats it up when she acts like that. If it were anyone else being so dramatic, they’d have been kicked aside long ago,” the assistant muttered quietly beside him.
“What’s so great about Xu Youyan anyway… I’m better than her.”
The man lowered his head, still lost in thought over the scene they had just acted out together.
