The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 91
Chapter 91
Today was Lan Yin’s birthday. Having learned this news by chance, Chen Zhi rushed back from the United States before dawn. Before coming, she had asked Lan Yin if she could help celebrate her birthday; Lan Yin agreed and gave her an address: the Lan family estate.
Logic told Chen Zhi that Lan Yin inviting her to her home didn’t necessarily carry any special meaning, but she couldn’t help fantasizing. Perhaps Lan Yin had invited her alone to meet the family, and they would settle down soon. Lately, she had been working herself to the bone in the U.S., unable to even see her “girlfriend’s” face, let alone steal a kiss or a hug. For the first time, Chen Zhi tasted what it felt like to be truly preoccupied with someone.
Chen Zhi had been full of confidence when she first set out for the Lan estate, but as she drew closer, she became inexplicably nervous—the kind of nervousness one feels before meeting a partner’s parents. However, thinking about it, she felt she was in a much better position than the “Little Nun” (Su Yi’an).
At least Lan Yin was willing to interact with her now. Unlike the Little Nun, who hadn’t even caught her person yet.
In the beginning, she had even kissed her girlfriend’s little mouth and held her hand. The Little Nun probably didn’t even know what it tasted like to kiss an Omega; she was far more pitiful.
The Lan estate was surrounded by high walls, obscuring the view inside, but the main courtyard gate was wide open and unguarded, making it seem somewhat quiet. However, there were quite a few cars parked outside, though she wasn’t sure if the owners were there for Lan Yin’s birthday party.
So what if they were? Lan Yin had agreed to let her come; with her status, she wouldn’t embarrass Lan Yin. She just didn’t know what kind of Alpha Lan Yin’s uncles liked. She had heard that the Little Nun had suffered quite a setback at the hands of those uncles. Her personality was different from the Little Nun’s; perhaps the uncles would like someone like her.
Chen Zhi kept comforting herself to keep the panic at bay. Today, she wore a very formal black suit and held a bouquet of flowers. She didn’t look like she was attending a birthday party; she looked more like she was about to propose.
Chen Zhi herself didn’t realize this; after receiving Lan Yin’s reply, she had meticulously picked this outfit. She felt that meeting a girlfriend’s family required a degree of formality.
From the time they met until now, Lan Yin hadn’t denied being her girlfriend, and sometimes even joked with her. Consequently, Chen Zhi seriously regarded Lan Yin as her girlfriend—the kind she would marry in the future.
Just as Chen Zhi finished her mental preparation and was about to walk through the gate, a familiar voice suddenly came from behind her.
“What are you doing here?”
Chen Zhi recognized Su Yi’an’s voice. She turned around, her tone tinged with a bit of bragging: “Coming to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday, of course. Why are you…?”
The sight of Su Yi’an walking intimately with Lan Yan caused the normally unflappable Chen Zhi to freeze completely. Because she had been so busy recently, she hadn’t yet received the news that Su Yi’an was already planning a wedding.
Seeing Su Yi’an with her fingers interlaced with Lan Yan’s left her so shocked that even her basic facial expression management as an award-winning actress failed her.
“It’s nothing.”
Su Yi’an smiled slightly and smoothly took out a wedding invitation, handing it to Chen Zhi. “It’s the weekend, so I’m accompanying my wife back to the old family home. Remember to come to the wedding in a few days.”
Chen Zhi’s expression cracked slightly. Her gaze shifted back to Su Yi’an’s hand, which hadn’t let go of Lan Yan’s once, and her heart was filled with disbelief. She had always thought the Little Nun returned to the U.S. because she had failed to woo her person and was deeply discouraged.
She had even planned to comfort her once she finished her work. She never imagined that while she couldn’t even touch Lan Yin yet, the Little Nun had gone straight to marrying her beloved.
Chen Zhi felt she had taken a heavy blow. She usually prided herself on being a master of romance, but looking at it now, she couldn’t even compare to one of the Little Nun’s fingers.
Su Yi’an had already explained their friendship to Lan Yan, so Lan Yan wasn’t surprised to see Chen Zhi here. It was normal to invite friends to celebrate her “Rabbit’s” birthday. The only thing that surprised her was the “girlfriend” Chen Zhi mentioned.
She hadn’t heard that Chen Zhi had a girlfriend; when she had sent people to investigate the news of Chen Zhi kissing someone at Mount Miao, they found nothing, so she hadn’t dwelled on it. Now, hearing “girlfriend” again, Lan Yan couldn’t help but be wary. To be honest, since it was today of all days, she feared it might be Lan Yin.
Forget it, she thought. My niece should have her own sense of judgment. Since Chen Zhi could be friends with Rabbit, her character likely wasn’t bad. As long as her niece liked her, she wouldn’t interfere in her niece’s love life. Lan Yan nodded slightly toward Chen Zhi as a greeting. She was naturally cold toward those she wasn’t familiar or close with.
“Aren’t you going in? Let’s go together,” Su Yi’an said to Chen Zhi before leading Lan Yan inside. As they crossed the threshold, Su Yi’an specifically supported her: “Sister, be careful.”
Seeing her so nervous, Lan Yan couldn’t help but want to laugh, though she felt a bit helpless. “Rabbit, I’m pregnant, not unable to walk.” Ever since finding out she was pregnant, the little Alpha had been serving her like a small, helpless child, treating her as if she might melt if she weren’t held in her mouth.
Plenty of people had children at nearly thirty; there was really nothing to be so tense about. Besides, she felt perfectly fine.
The two spoke in very low voices, but Chen Zhi and Jiang Mu behind them heard. Jiang Mu looked like he had seen this a thousand times, but Chen Zhi froze in place.
Pregnant?
The Little Nun even had a child already, while she herself hadn’t even touched her girlfriend. It really proved her own earlier words—except she was the one who turned out to be the clown. Another arrow hit her in the heart. It took Chen Zhi a long while to control her composure before she stepped forward to follow them.
She felt she needed to speed up her pursuit; she couldn’t let the Little Nun be on her second child by the time she finally caught someone. If all else failed, she would just have to ask the Little Nun for advice.
After this shock, Chen Zhi felt even less confident. Although she didn’t show it on her face, her eyes were vacant as she lost herself in thought.
That is, until she saw Lan Yin in the courtyard, surrounded by a group of people. She quickly walked over and handed her the flowers: “Yin Yin, happy birthday.” It was a simple sentence. In front of outsiders, Chen Zhi was always careful to maintain boundaries.
“Thank you.” Lan Yin smiled and naturally took the flowers.
Her friends, however, shook her arm: “Sister Lan, when did you become friends with Movie Queen Chen? Why is she here?”
“Wait, is there something going on between you two?” Zeng Wei stared suspiciously at Lan Yin, whispering softly. “Sister Lan, Movie Queen Chen’s reputation online hasn’t been great lately. Even though I don’t believe it’s true, maybe we shouldn’t get involved with someone like that.”
Perhaps brainwashed by recent online rumors, Lan Yin’s friends were looking at Chen Zhi with quite a bit of prejudice. Lan Yin’s ears turned red. She raised her other hand to tidy her hair blown by the wind and didn’t answer.
Chen Zhi had been pursuing her, and she didn’t dislike it; in fact, she was happy about it and wanted to give them both a chance. That was why she gave Chen Zhi the address when she wanted to celebrate her birthday. She had realized by now that Chen Zhi wasn’t “greasy” as the internet claimed, but rather had a low EQ and was somewhat socially awkward. Or rather, her EQ was ridiculously low specifically when facing Lan Yin, completely unlike the composed manner she showed the media.
Come to think of it, both times Chen Zhi’s reputation had suffered, it seemed to be because of her. At that thought, Lan Yin felt like laughing.
Since Lan Yin didn’t speak, Chen Zhi didn’t speak either. She wasn’t familiar with the people around Lan Yin and she had always maintained a cold, aloof persona in front of others.
Su Yi’an timely cleared the air for Chen Zhi: “Chen Zhi is my friend. Sorry for keeping it from everyone before. As for the things online, most of them shouldn’t be believed.” It was true—whether good or bad, none of it was reliable. Chen Zhi was two completely different people in front of the media versus her close friends.
Everyone looked at Su Yi’an and then at Chen Zhi in shock, their mouths hanging open.
“Sister… Sister Lan, did you know about this?” Zeng Wei stammered.
Lan Yin honestly shook her head. She really didn’t know. Despite knowing her for so long, Chen Zhi had mentioned her family and friends in passing, but Lan Yin truly never imagined that the “Friend surnamed Su” Chen Zhi mentioned was Su Yi’an—her current Aunt Rabbit.
Previously, she didn’t even know Aunt Rabbit’s true identity, only hearing from He Xia that she was a poor student, so she had naturally treated her as one. It wasn’t until last night that she heard from her Little Aunt that Aunt Rabbit was the only daughter of the Su family—the richest family in the U.S.—and was actually the Alpha she had been betrothed to as a child but had never met. Fortunately, when Aunt Rabbit fell for her Little Aunt, she didn’t know about the betrothal either.
She didn’t feel awkward about that specifically—the Su and Lan families had already transferred the alliance to her Little Aunt and Aunt Rabbit—she was just shocked. In fact, she had stayed awake half the night thinking about it.
What truly made her feel awkward was that if Chen Zhi was Aunt Rabbit’s friend, what would she have to call Aunt Rabbit if she and Chen Zhi ended up together? Lan Yin instinctively thought of this first, and although her eyes flickered slightly, she didn’t let it show. Compared to the shock of He Xia and Zeng Wei, her reaction appeared normal.
Chen Zhi silently gave Su Yi’an a thumbs-up. It was as if she were saying: Good sisters are reliable after all. She decided then and there that to catch her wife and get married sooner, she would ask the Little Nun for some experience later.
Lan Yan watched their interaction and secretly pinched the little Alpha beside her, saying softly, “Rabbit, don’t you have something to explain to me about Movie Queen Chen and Lan Yin?”
Su Yi’an played dumb: “Explain what? Isn’t my niece a fan of Chen Zhi?”
Lan Yan: “…You really don’t know?” What movie queen comes to a fan’s birthday with flowers and calls her “Yin Yin” so affectionately? But did Rabbit really not know? Perhaps Chen Zhi was keeping it from her.
Su Yi’an shook her head frantically. She knew Chen Zhi’s claim that Lan Yin had agreed to be her girlfriend was a lie; looking at Chen Zhi now, she clearly hadn’t won her over yet. Since Chen Zhi hadn’t told her much about Lan Yin lately, she technically was “not in the know.”
She definitely wasn’t lying to her Sister. As for the future, that was up to Chen Zhi. Based on her observations, her niece seemed somewhat interested; the key was whether Chen Zhi could seize the chance. If she kept using her old methods, it would be difficult.
Couldn’t she see that several “Big Uncles-in-law” were already watching her like hawks?
Since Chen Zhi appeared, the atmosphere had become a bit strange. In the whole group, only He Xia failed to notice. After being as shocked as everyone else, she boisterously greeted them: “Oh, Little Aunt, Aunt Rabbit, you’re finally here! Come, come, let’s play Mahjong! We need one more. Lan Yin and the others don’t know how to play, so it’s perfect that you’re here. Does Movie Queen Chen know how? Want to join?”
Truthfully, she was a bit intimidated to speak to this woman who usually lived on a screen, but hearing she was friends with Su Yi’an suddenly made her seem more down-to-earth, so He Xia’s courage grew. Most importantly, everyone was too quiet and it was boring; she wasn’t used to it. Birthdays should be lively. It was still early and there wasn’t much else to do, so why not play Mahjong? Besides, the Mahjong table was a great place to make friends.
Su Yi’an was about to say she didn’t know how to play either, but she caught a glimpse of Chen Zhi standing there as stiff as a statue. She finally said, “Sure, but I’ll have to learn as I go.” But before that, she first asked Lan Yan: “Does Sister know how? Can you teach me?”
Lan Yan nodded.
