The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 83
Chapter 83
The wind was exceptionally strong tonight. Thick dark clouds gathered in the sky, creating an ominous sense of an impending storm. The potted plants in the corridor were blown into disarray, several flowers snapped at the stem.
Su Yi’an was not at the small hostel; she had returned to her home in the US. Old Man Su was out, destination unknown, and her mother was with him—usually, wherever her father went, her mother followed. Su Yi’an stood by the second-floor window, letting heavy raindrops pelt her face. Her expression was unreadable, as if hiding a thousand secrets, yet appearing strangely empty.
“Miss, as you predicted, Madman Wang didn’t dare sign that contract. People from the Bureau of Industry and Commerce and the Tax Bureau have already headed to the Wang Group.”
The man in the suit didn’t understand why his young mistress’s expression had turned even worse after getting out of the car than it was when she went to meet Madman Wang. The matter was resolved; Madman Wang had gained nothing and was sent to the hospital in a rage. Even the entire Wang family was about to pay a price. Why did she look so heavy-hearted? Was it because of the Madam?
Su Yi’an turned to look at him. He immediately lowered his head. “Miss, since the ancestral land is still in our hands, should we…?”
Su Yi’an waved her hand. “No need. We don’t use that land anyway. Ask Old Man Su about it.”
The fact that the government forbade any construction there was indeed linked to her actions; she had essentially cooperated with the government’s initiative. Since the Su family hadn’t used the land for so many years, not building anything didn’t affect them. This move also protected the land from others who coveted it, not just Madman Wang. Madman Wang had served as a wake-up call; with her away from the US for a while, certain people were getting restless.
She had indeed anticipated that Madman Wang wouldn’t sign, which was why she acted so boldly. As the saying goes: “To make one perish, one must first make them mad.” Neither Madman Wang nor the Wang family was clean. They hadn’t been investigated before due to a lack of evidence, but this time, Madman Wang had delivered it himself.
She wasn’t worried about the Wang family or any rival. She was simply thinking of her Sister, who had been so gentle to her earlier. She felt a wave of guilt—an emotion so complex it made her want to shrink back again. But she knew that the longer she delayed, the harder it would be. That was why she had impulsively said she was coming back tomorrow.
She expected her Sister to scold her for not studying, but instead, the call had been filled with concern. Sister was even afraid something had happened to her and offered to fly over. Though Su Yi’an had talked her out of it, her heart remained unsettled.
Grandpa has been gone for many days now. Sister should be feeling better, right? Su Yi’an sighed, closed the window, and took a dry towel from a servant. She wiped the rain from her face and picked up her phone to call again, but after a long silence, she put it down.
“Miss, the Master is looking for you.” The suited man handed her the house landline.
Su Yi’an took the phone. “Dad.”
Old Man Su: “An’an, you’re home?” Su Yi’an: “Mmh.” Old Man Su: “What’s this about asking if I want to use the ancestral land? That place is a good location, but we don’t need it. If you want it, I’ll give it to you to handle. But I’ll say it again: you have to settle down and start a family before you can inherit the ancestral business.”
Su Yi’an was silent for a long time, then suddenly said: “Dad, I’m married. Don’t interfere for now. After tomorrow night, I’ll tell you everything.”
Old Man Su was suspicious. “You aren’t lying to me? To whom?”
Many people had been eyeing that land lately. It was meant for descendants in emergencies, passed down through generations. He wondered if his daughter was being scammed because she was young. Luckily, the government’s recent ban on construction had discouraged people, solving a headache for him. He suspected his daughter had something to do with that ban.
Is she focusing on the business because that Lan girl rejected her? he wondered. Don’t! The business is big enough. I just want a granddaughter to play with. He was tired of his wife’s constant nagging to pressure An’an for a family.
“Married? Who would she marry? Didn’t she say she’d only marry the little sister of the Lan family?” Still, not being with the Lan girl might be better; he wouldn’t know what to call his old friend Brother Lan if his daughter married Lan’s sister.
Because he had heard too many “marriage” excuses, he didn’t believe a word of it.
Su Yi’an: “…Lan Yan. Dad, just don’t worry about it for now.”
Old Man Su was horrified. “What? An’an, don’t scare me! No, I need to call Brother Lan to confirm.” He felt his daughter was having a mental breakdown. If it were true, why hadn’t there been a wedding? A Su daughter getting married needed a massive celebration.
Su Yi’an’s voice nearly cracked: “Don’t… Dad. Talk after tomorrow night, okay?”
This was exactly why she had hesitated to tell him. She was terrified that a well-meaning but ignorant Old Man Su would ruin everything before she could confess to her Sister. Hearing the plea in her voice, Old Man Su wavered. “Fine. I can wait one day.”
The next morning, Su Yi’an confirmed that the Madman Wang matter was watertight, called Lan Yan (detecting no abnormalities in her tone), and boarded her flight. Only once she was in the air did her heart finally settle.
She had planned everything, but she never imagined that because of the previous night’s phone call, Lan Yan had become worried and asked someone to investigate what was happening to her in the US. Lan Yan feared her Rabbit was being threatened but was too reserved to ask for help.
By 6:00 PM, Lan Yan hadn’t received a detailed report yet, and the Rabbit was due home soon. However, while browsing US news at home, she stumbled upon a financial report from a month ago: The sole daughter of the richest man in the US uses 100 million to start a business, multiplying it in a week.
Lan Yan hadn’t paid much attention until the next headline: Richest man’s daughter in a drag race; opponent sent to hospital.
The “sole daughter” was named Su Yi’an. She looked identical to her Rabbit when her Rabbit wore makeup.
Lan Yan’s mind went blank. She sat frozen for ten minutes. Then came disbelief, the fury of being deceived, and a piercing heartbreak. Tears slid down her face. She curled into a ball on the sofa, clutching her chest, feeling as though she couldn’t breathe.
Why did she lie to me? Even her identity is fake. Is anything real? Did she have any genuine feelings for me?
So this is why she’s coming back tonight? To ‘confess’?
She felt like a fool. She had been worried about her “Rabbit” being bullied, when her wife was the daughter of a billionaire whom no one would dare touch.
Su Yi’an’s distress was no less than Lan Yan’s. Upon landing, she received word that someone was investigating her, and the trail led to the Lan family in the capital. Though her people had slowed the investigation down, she knew something was wrong when her Sister didn’t answer her calls.
She was frantic. It was rush hour, and traffic was a nightmare. “Driver, please, faster. I beg you, faster!” she sobbed. She wasn’t afraid of the truth anymore; she was only afraid of her Sister getting hurt.
When she finally arrived home and opened the door with her key, she saw Lan Yan curled up on the sofa. Her heart wrenched.
“Sister…” She wanted to approach but didn’t dare.
Lan Yan’s body stiffened. Her eyes were swollen from crying. She turned to look at Su Yi’an coldly. “Does Miss Su have anything else to say?”
A single address—Miss Su—drew a sharp line between them.
Su Yi’an lost the courage to step forward. “I’m sorry. My identity is fake, but my feelings for Sister are real. I didn’t lie about anything else. I rushed back today specifically to tell you.”
Lan Yan’s lips curled into a mocking arc. “Su Yi’an, let’s di—”
“Sister, I was wrong! You can punish me however you want, just don’t mention divorce, please!” Before she could finish, Su Yi’an fell to her knees, tears streaming down her face.
“Get out!” Lan Yan closed her eyes and clenched her fists.
Su Yi’an left immediately, but she stayed right outside the door. She knew Sister was at her most impulsive while angry. As long as they weren’t divorced, there was still a sliver of hope. If Sister calmed down and still insisted on it, she would respect her wish and find a way to pursue her all over again.
Su Yi’an stood outside all night. She was exhausted, but she didn’t dare leave. The next morning, neighbors passing by looked at her with very strange expressions.
