The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 76
Chapter 76
Regarding Zhang Baiyang’s death, the Lan brothers remained remarkably calm. They were well aware of his character; had it not been for their grandfather’s sake, the things he had done to Lan Yan recently would have been enough to get him killed several times over.
Without orders from the masters, the Lan servants didn’t dare move. Consequently, the entire wedding scene fell silent, save for the middle-aged couple who were frantically trying to explain themselves.
Grandpa Zhang fainted from rage once again. While Grandpa Lan remained conscious, his expression was grim. Imagine being at death’s door, finally seeing your beloved granddaughter hold her wedding a joyous occasion only to have it marred by such bad luck. Worse, the deceased was the grandson of his best friend. No one could be happy about that.
Grandpa Lan sent someone to escort Grandpa Zhang to a doctor. The police arrived quickly, and the wedding having missed its auspicious hour could only be suspended.
The police determined that Zhang Baiyang had committed suicide by poison. Everyone assumed he had lost everything and, driven mad by the abuse of his “shrewish husband,” chose this moment to disgust the new couple as an act of revenge. Su Yi’an thought the same.
After seeing off the middle-aged couple, rescuing Old Master Zhang, and waiting for the late-arriving Zhang Bailin to take his grandfather home, the mess was finally cleared by evening.
Lan Yan and Su Yi’an changed out of their wedding attire and prepared to comfort Grandpa Lan. Just then, Su Yi’an received a phone call, and her face turned deathly pale in an instant.
The caller was “Madman Wang,” the person who had crashed into the hospital during a race against her back in the States. Their grudge wasn’t massive, but Madman Wang was named so because he was irrational and prone to risking his life on a whim. His family was influential in the US, making him incredibly persistent.
Su Yi’an had provoked him simply because she once saved his girlfriend. Madman Wang misunderstood, thinking she was having an affair with her, leading to the race where his attempt to sabotage her backfired on himself.
Is Madman Wang out of the hospital already? How can he reach his hand into the capital of China? Although Zhang Baiyang’s suicide was a settled fact, she didn’t believe for a second that Madman Wang didn’t have a hand in it. It seemed she had no choice but to attend the meeting scheduled in seven days.
Su Yi’an put away her phone, her gaze darkening. Fortunately, Madman Wang knew not to push her too hard; he hadn’t revealed her identity to Sister, hadn’t touched the Lan family, and gave her seven days of leeway. But this tactic was truly sickening.
She had just married Sister. In seven days, Grandpa would be gone, and she would have to leave Sister’s side. This was an incredibly difficult situation, and Madman Wang had timed it perfectly.
“What is it? Are the Uncle and Aunt making things difficult for you again?” Lan Yan hadn’t heard the call, but she could clearly feel that Su Yi’an was unhappy.
Su Yi’an’s eyes flickered, and she asked a different question: “Sister, where would you like to go for our honeymoon in the future?”
Seeing her Rabbit avoid the topic, Lan Yan assumed the couple was bothering her, and her own expression soured. However, she didn’t linger on it, saying: “Rabbit, can we discuss this in a few days?”
The doctor said Grandpa only had three days; one had already passed. Including today’s incident, she didn’t know if he could even hold on that long. She truly wasn’t in the mood. But she couldn’t speak so bluntly about Grandpa’s end to the Rabbit. Now that the wedding was postponed and all the activities of a honeymoon were on hold, Lan Yan felt consumed by guilt toward Su Yi’an.
“Okay,” Su Yi’an answered quickly. She had only asked to distract Sister. She specifically used the word “future” because she knew Sister couldn’t leave right now. She would keep the answer in her heart, or ask again later.
She couldn’t hide the trip to the US from Sister, but she couldn’t use Madman Wang as the reason. She needed a good cover story.
The two walked to Grandpa Lan’s side. Although he felt no physical pain, he looked despondent. His face brightened slightly upon seeing them, and he patted the sofa: “Yan Yan and Rabbit are here. Come, sit.”
His friend’s grandson had died at his granddaughter’s wedding. Out of morality and conscience, the wedding couldn’t proceed for the time being. He had secretly asked the doctor about his condition. Although the doctor didn’t say it, he guessed he had maybe three to five days left. This sudden burst of energy was likely just the “final radiance” before the end.
It seemed he wouldn’t see the ceremony, but at least they had successfully registered their marriage this morning. The granddaughter-in-law doted on his granddaughter, and his granddaughter loved her back. His wish was fulfilled. Perhaps it was fate; if he couldn’t see it, so be it.
Despite his stoicism, Grandpa Lan felt a pang of sadness. “Can Grandpa see your marriage certificate?” he asked. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust them; he just wanted to see it while he still could. Looking at the festive red booklets was a comfort.
Lan Yan felt her grandfather’s hand trembling. Her heart ached, but to avoid worrying him, she forced a smile: “Of course, Grandpa.”
The certificates were kept by her little Alpha in her backpack, which never left her side unless she was in a wedding dress. Su Yi’an responded quickly, handing the booklets to Grandpa Lan before Lan Yan even finished speaking. “Grandpa, don’t worry about the wedding. I’ll make it up to Sister later. It will be even grander than today.” She meant it, but Lan Yan thought she was just comforting the old man and squeezed her hand.
Grandpa Lan opened the booklets. Looking at the photo of the two of them, a smile finally returned to his face. “Good, good. Then I can rest easy.”
After looking at the certificates, he didn’t chat for long. He soon feigned tiredness to send them back to their bedroom. Before they left, he had a servant bring two bowls of soup and insisted they finish them. He even gave Su Yi’an a wink: “I’m fine, don’t mind me. Rabbit, you two do what you need to do.”
The Lan family had a massive estate, but only one great-grandchild, Lan Yin. The other grandsons were underperforming and hadn’t found partners. The responsibility of continuing the bloodline fell on Yan Yan and the Rabbit. He might not live to see it, but he didn’t want his granddaughter to be unhappy on her wedding night because of him.
Cough… cough cough…
Su Yi’an hadn’t fully swallowed the soup when she caught his drift. Her face turned beet-red from choking and embarrassment. Grandpa probably guessed they wouldn’t do anything tonight given the circumstances, so he staged this.
Sister might not have known what was in the soup, but Su Yi’an, who had studied cooking for a while, knew exactly what it was: a tonic filled with “heat-inducing” ingredients. She thought she could resist it and didn’t want to refuse Grandpa, so she drank it silently. She hadn’t expected Grandpa to be so blunt. If she understood, Sister surely did too.
Escaping Grandpa’s room, Su Yi’an coughed while peeking at Sister, who was patting her back. As expected, Sister’s face was flushed deeper than a sunset. Honestly, Su Yi’an didn’t need a tonic to feel restless; just lying next to Sister was enough. The problem was Sister’s consent; if Sister wasn’t willing, she wouldn’t touch her no matter how much she wanted to. Grandpa’s move was a bit redundant—it just made things harder for her.
Whether it was psychological or the soup, Su Yi’an felt a dry fire burning in her chest and a dull ache at the back of her neck.
When Lan Yin came to call them for dinner, Su Yi’an had no appetite. She stopped coughing and said to Lan Yan: “Sister, you go ahead. I’m not hungry.” She felt uncomfortable, wanting to claw at her neck. The feeling reminded her of the first time she saw Sister on the bed, making it even worse.
She really wasn’t hungry; today’s events with Zhang Baiyang and Madman Wang had drained her. Mostly, she wanted a cold shower. She felt her pheromones, agitated by the soup, were signaling the onset of her rut.
She couldn’t stay with Sister, or she might lose control. Before, she could hold back because she hadn’t experienced that “charm,” but now she had, and her new wife was right there. She didn’t think she could endure it.
Lan Yan didn’t let go of her hand. She turned to Lan Yin: “Lan Yin, you all go ahead. Rabbit isn’t feeling well, I’ll take her back to the room to rest.” She saw the little Alpha’s distress and felt the power of the soup herself. She was helpless. Today was their wedding night; while she wasn’t in the mood because of Grandpa, she couldn’t let her Rabbit suffer.
To be safe, Grandpa had likely added something to stimulate pheromones. Seeing how violent the Rabbit’s pheromones were becoming, Lan Yan had a bad feeling. Could the soup have forced the rut to come early? The Rabbit said her rut was at the end of the month, but tonight, her scent was different—too aggressive, easily drawing out Lan Yan’s own pheromones.
An Alpha’s rut wasn’t something solved in hours; it took at least a night. Grandpa, you really… Well, he did it for their own good. There were other Omegas in the house like Lan Yin; the Rabbit truly couldn’t stay out here, and neither could she, as her own pheromones were bordering on out of control.
“Okay.” Lan Yin smelled the pheromones on both her aunts and turned bright red. She tactfully left. Returning to the table, she told her uncles: “Auntie Rabbit isn’t well, Auntie is taking her upstairs. They won’t be eating.”
The dining table was a distance from the bedroom. The waiting Lan brothers didn’t know the truth. They slammed their chopsticks on the table in anger. Grandpa was gravely ill, Yan Yan was heartbroken, and yet that little Alpha had the nerve to drag her away for that? Even if the Alpha didn’t know the full situation, it was barely evening! Yan Yan had been busy all day and hadn’t eaten!
What “not feeling well”? She’s clearly tricking Yan Yan into the room… If it was like this at the Lan house, they couldn’t imagine how she’d be bullied once they moved out. They couldn’t stand their little princess being treated this way.
The brothers were so angry they ignored the fact that with Lan Yan’s personality, no one could force her if she wasn’t willing. Lan Yu narrowed his eyes and stood up first. “I’ll bring Yan Yan some dinner.” He sounded kind, but his murderous aura suggested otherwise.
“Fourth Uncle… Auntie and the others…”
Just as Lan Yin was about to explain, Grandpa Lan walked out. “All of you, sit back down. If Yan Yan says they aren’t hungry, they aren’t hungry.”
Lan Yu immediately suppressed his temper and supported him. “Grandpa, didn’t you say you were resting? Why are you out?”
Grandpa Lan’s stern face broke into a smile. “Can’t sleep. I wanted to see my underperforming grandsons. Why, I can’t? Yan Yan is married; what about you? Not even a strand of a partner’s hair in sight…” He looked energetic enough for a long lecture.
The brothers didn’t dare mention the dinner again and hovered around him. Grandpa Lan was satisfied. He smiled: “Bring them food later. They’ll likely be hungry by then.” Among his grandkids, only Yan Yan was an Omega; she was the one he worried about most. The others were Alphas or Betas; it didn’t matter if they married late. Now that Yan Yan’s pheromone issue was solved, he was relieved. And the Rabbit seemed so good to her; she wouldn’t let Yan Yan suffer.
The brothers, being sharp, realized this was their grandfather’s doing. Their anger toward Su Yi’an dissipated significantly.
Upstairs, Su Yi’an and Lan Yan entered the room, both drenched in sweat. The scent of pheromones was thick enough to intoxicate anyone. Lan Yan was better off, retaining some logic, but Su Yi’an was in a bad state. Though she remembered not to hurt Sister, her eyes were turning red, and her reason was slipping away.
“Sister… you… leave quickly.” Su Yi’an dove into the bedsheets, her hands gripping the fabric so hard her veins popped. I can do this. I can endure. Didn’t I survive before I had Sister? Sister doesn’t want this right now because of Grandpa. She didn’t dare look back, afraid that one glance at her new wife would make her cross the line.
Lan Yan sighed. She unbuttoned her shirt and hugged the Rabbit, who felt like she was burning up. “Rabbit, let’s take a shower.” The Rabbit had never been like this; Lan Yan was certain the rut had come early.
When the cool hand touched her arm, Su Yi’an lost the last of her logic. The thick scent of wine swept away the grape fragrance, intoxicating her. She turned and hugged the person behind her tightly. She greedily kissed from her neck to her lips. Even in her daze, she remembered to follow her wife’s instructions. After drawing some coolness, she pulled her toward the bathroom.
The cold water hit her, bringing back a shred of sanity.
“Sister… can I…” Su Yi’an hugged her tight.
Lan Yan didn’t answer but allowed the restless movements. She sent her to the bathroom not because she was unwilling, but because she felt she alone couldn’t handle the Rabbit’s rut; she needed the cold water.
The cool water poured over them. In the hot summer night, the scorching Su Yi’an felt only comfort. But Lan Yan was different; most Omegas are prone to cold, and she shivered, pressing closer to the “furnace” that was the Rabbit.
Seeing her discomfort, Su Yi’an turned off the water. But in that small space, the concentrated pheromones were maddening. Sharp teeth broke the skin of her neck, and tears were forced from Lan Yan’s eyes. Her hands were pinned to the door. “Rabbit, turn on the water… the water…”
Su Yi’an glanced at her but ignored the plea. “The water… Sister will catch a cold.” “I won’t… turn it on… please.”
She was right; a rutting Alpha was more than she could handle. She slightly regretted it; the bathroom offered no safety, only a place for the little Alpha to be more unrestrained. Eventually, the sound of water returned—warm water this time. The rising steam and splashing water drowned out everything else.
The night was long—so long that Lan Yan lost track of time. She couldn’t remember sadness or joy. It was as if she were being thrown into the sky and dropped into an abyss repeatedly.
When Lan Yan woke up, she saw moonlight in the room. If she hadn’t been semi-consciously fed nutrient solution by servants a few times, she would have thought it was still the same night. But it was the following night.
8 PM. The moon was as round as a pancake. Grandpa… how is Grandpa? Lan Yan tried to get up but was supported by a hand.
“Sister, are you okay?” It was her Rabbit’s voice, filled with emotions she couldn’t quite identify. She looked over and saw her Rabbit kneeling properly by the bed.
“Rabbit, what are you doing? Get up.” No one made her kneel. If it was for last night, it wasn’t necessary it was the soup’s fault, and she had been willing. However, she now knew how “fierce” a rutting Rabbit could be. Thinking about facing this every month gave her a slight headache. Her skin probably didn’t have a single unblemished patch left.
“Sister, I did wrong last night. Please punish me.” Su Yi’an felt extremely guilty looking at her fragile wife.
Lan Yan pressed her forehead. “It wasn’t your fault. Help me up. Grandpa…”
Su Yi’an hurried to help. “Don’t worry, Grandpa is okay.” But tomorrow… Su Yi’an didn’t say it, fearing it would hurt her. From the brothers’ attitudes, they likely already knew.
They dressed and went downstairs to find everyone gathered. Grandpa Lan was the happiest. He beckoned: “Come, Rabbit has worked hard lately. Grandpa has something to say to you.”
Under the glares of the brothers and Lan Yin’s complex gaze, Su Yi’an led Lan Yan over. She didn’t feel she had “worked hard”—she had enjoyed it but she felt shy being watched like this.
As they sat, Grandpa Lan pulled out two plane tickets. “Yan Yan, Rabbit, go on your honeymoon tomorrow morning. I’ve picked the location, and Lan Yu will handle the company.”
Both Su Yi’an and Lan Yan’s expressions changed simultaneously.
