The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
“Host, please maintain a positive and sunny attitude toward your missions!”
“Host, this behavior is unethical! Look at you, you’re so rich. Why take the point-of-no-return path of being a ‘soft rice’ eater?”
“People will look down on you!”
Amidst the system’s high-pitched screams, Su Yi’an quickly scanned the surroundings. She finally spotted a small alley to the right of the school filled with snack stalls and vendors selling cheap clothes and pants.
Miss Grape… no, Lan Yan, seemed to prefer the innocent, harmless student persona. Her current high-end outfit was unsuitable for their meeting. Judging by Zhan Ming’s hesitant expression, there was still a lot of grinding to do; that agreement wouldn’t be signed so quickly. It gave her enough time to change her image.
For the first time, Su Yi’an was glad she usually dressed up; otherwise, given their unpleasant encounter last night, it would be hard to meet this President Lan again.
President? Su Yi’an couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the thought. Lan Yan had certainly been “presidential” and dominant when she took the initiative to kiss her.
Seeing the host walking further and further into the alley, the system grew frantic: “Host, what on earth are you trying to do?”
Su Yi’an: “Nothing much. I just suddenly want to return to campus and get a master’s degree.”
The system breathed a sigh of relief. Oh, just a master’s. Scared me to death.
But it quickly became nervous again: “Host, loving to learn is good, but the most important thing right now is the mission!”
“Naturally!” Soft Persimmon is so easy to fool.
Su Yi’an curled her lips and walked into a small clothing shop. She picked up a pair of old-looking pants and a white T-shirt. “Boss, how much for these two?”
The owner looked at the young woman who looked like a celebrity and plucked up the courage to hike the price: “Miss, first time here? Everything in my shop is fifty yuan!”
“Fifty?” Although Su Yi’an was rich, she wasn’t stupid. From the owner’s expression, it definitely didn’t cost fifty.
Sure enough, as soon as Su Yi’an spoke, the owner hurriedly said: “Thirty! Thirty is fine. I’ll give you a discount.”
Su Yi’an smiled and handed over a hundred-yuan bill. “Keep the change.” She didn’t care about the money; she just didn’t want to be treated like a sucker. Besides, she didn’t have time to haggle.
“That won’t do, let me give you change,” the owner said with a beam, though he made no move to actually reach for his wallet.
Su Yi’an waved her hand and walked out with the clothes. The owner’s smile became even more fawning. “You’re so beautiful, you really look like a big star!”
Su Yi’an paused, avoided his gaze, and got into her car. She swiftly changed into the new clothes and used makeup remover to wipe away the heavy makeup.
The system was bewildered by this sequence of actions: “Host, what’s the use of this? Zhan Ming is about to face off with the female lead! Look, they’ve already walked into that morning tea shop outside the school. Hurry up!”
The Emperor isn’t worried, but the eunuch is dying of anxiety!
“Yeah, I know!” Su Yi’an replied, taking out a small mirror. Seeing her eyes—which remained a bit sharp even when she tried to look innocent—she rummaged through the car and finally found a pair of heavy, unbranded glasses.
They successfully masked the sharpness and added a scholarly air. Perfect!
Under the system’s repeated urges, Su Yi’an finally got out of the car. Looking at Zhan Ming and Lan Yan sitting by the window of the tea shop, she took out her phone as she walked.
Inside the tea shop, the inexperienced, sunny youth Zhan Ming felt nervous and helpless in front of the powerful Lan Yan. He took a sip of tea to hide his inner turmoil. “President Lan, to be honest, I am indeed short of money. Please give me three days to think about it, okay?”
The woman before him was nearly thirty but looked like a sister in her early twenties. She seemed a bit cold, but her manner was refined and humble—nothing like those greasy, wealthy older women.
They had met last night, and her offer was tempting. He only had to soothe her pheromones once a month with a temporary mark to get 100,000 yuan. The term was only for a year, and he could even get an advance. To have a connection with such a stunning Omega was a dream for many…
If it weren’t for the written agreement added today—if the woman were truly pursuing him—he would have agreed without a penny. But his pride as an Alpha told him that while he was poor, he had integrity. Being a “kept man” for an Omega was not something an Alpha should do.
However, the debt collectors had been relentless lately, even hounding him at school. So, he wanted to give both of them three days to reconsider.
The air grew quiet. Just as Zhan Ming was feeling anxious, the phone in his pocket buzzed. “Sorry, President Lan, I need to take this.” He looked apologetically at the noble woman opposite him.
“Please, go ahead,” Lan Yan nodded with a slight smile, glancing absentmindedly at her watch.
Zhan Ming checked his phone. It was an unknown number. He didn’t want to pick up, but he was so nervous that he pressed answer just to break the tension. “Hello?”
“Great-aunt?”
“My great-aunt is dead. I don’t have money and I don’t need your money, thanks!”
After a few sentences, Zhan Ming hung up. Su Yi’an wasn’t angry; her goal was simply to disrupt their conversation and stall for time.
The system was angrier than she was: “See, Host? I told you it wouldn’t be that simple.”
“Haha, just a scam call,” Zhan Ming laughed dryly, putting his phone away. He looked at Lan Yan pleadingly. “President Lan, regarding that three-day period, could you…”
“I can.” The soft light in Lan Yan’s eyes faded slightly. She checked her watch again and stood up. “It’s getting late. I have things to do, and I shouldn’t keep you from class. I look forward to our next meeting. Goodbye.”
She didn’t have to have him, but it was rare to find such a clean Alpha who fit her criteria. Waiting a few days was fine. If it didn’t work out, she would just find another.
Zhan Ming’s lips moved; he wanted to tell her he actually didn’t have classes this morning. But looking at the glamorous Lan Yan and then at his own cheap clothes, a sudden wave of low self-esteem bent his spine. He lowered his head. “Goodbye, President Lan.”
Lan Yan retracted her smile and walked past him. The roses on the chair mirrored Zhan Ming’s current mood: full of the desolation of being discarded.
“Wait a moment, President Lan!” Zhan Ming grabbed the roses and found the courage to chase after her. “You forgot your flowers.”
Lan Yan didn’t even turn her head. “Throw them away.”
The flowers had been shoved into her hands by her cousin Lan Yu’s people this morning. He had threatened to take back the land he gave her and said that even an Omega pursuing an Alpha needs a bit of romance.
Was Lan Yan afraid of losing face? No, she just couldn’t be bothered to put in the effort. What she wanted was always just a simple contractual relationship—mutually beneficial and consensual. As for “pursuit”… ha.
The sound of receding high heels took Zhan Ming’s heart with it. He sat back down despondently and looked at the untouched, fragrant breakfast. He picked up his chopsticks. This was the most expensive tea shop at the school gate; this meal cost nearly two hundred yuan. For him, who couldn’t even produce a hundred right now, it was a luxury feast. Even though Lan Yan had paid for it and it felt shameful, it was better than wasting it or going hungry.
“I’m sorry, Sister! I’m so sorry!”
“How much was this jacket? I… I’ll pay you back!”
Lan Yan had just stepped out of the shop when she collided with a young girl running in a hurry. The girl looked about twenty, wearing faded jeans and a simple T-shirt. Her forehead was beaded with sweat, and her delicate features were hidden behind heavy glasses. Even so, she was prettier than most.
This was a female Alpha. Looking at her dress, she seemed like an inexperienced student. She was apologizing because the soy milk in her hand had stained Lan Yan’s white suit. Her face was flushed red, seemingly out of shame for her actions.
Lan Yan looked at her a few times and noticed the deep-seated anxiety and panic in the girl’s eyes. She wondered to herself: Do I look that fierce or unreasonable? Everyone at her company seemed terrified of her, even though she rarely lost her temper.
Forget it, it was just a jacket. If she really made the girl pay, it looked like she couldn’t afford it anyway. She had a spare in the car.
Lan Yan tried to sound kind: “You can go. You don’t need to pay.”
“Really?” A visible spark lit up the girl’s eyes. “Thank you, Sister! How about you give the jacket to me? I’ll take it home and wash it for you.”
Just as Lan Yan was about to refuse, a middle-aged couple with fierce expressions ran over and began shouting at the girl: “Su Yi’an! You’ve got some nerve, haven’t you? Daring to hide from your second uncle and aunt that you’re taking the master’s entrance exam?”
Su Yi’an hid behind Lan Yan. “I didn’t use your money, and I’m doing my best to pay back the debts!”
Seeing her talk back, the middle-aged couple moved as if to hit her. “Your parents didn’t care about you when you were little! If it weren’t for us, would you even be this big? All the money you earn in your life belongs to us and your younger brother!”
“Drop out! Come home with us and marry the village chief’s son. His Omega son doesn’t want a dowry; he’s even giving a bride-price! It’s your blessing that he took a liking to you!”
Their unreasonable behavior made Lan Yan’s brow furrow instinctively. It was the morning of the modern, rule-of-law era—how could there still be such a feudal family?
