The CEO Omega’s 'Soft Rice' Alpha - Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Chen Zhi’s movie was a pure campus youth romance zero angst and full of humor, starting from the meeting of an Alpha senior and an Omega junior. By the end, it was so sugary sweet it would make anyone scream; it was indeed the perfect choice for young couples.
When Su Yi’an and Lan Yan arrived at the theater, most people they saw were sweet couples holding hands. The two of them, however, walked one in front of the other with enough space between them to fit a third person. They looked more like an elder and a junior.
Some people, hoping to find a single person to hit on at the cinema, noticed them.
“Look at that Alpha and Omega over there by the ticket kiosk? They’re stunning, and they both look single. Sisters, our chance is here! Let’s go get their numbers.”
The theater was crowded. As a group of people surged forward, the lobby became even more congested. Amidst the crowd, Su Yi’an’s hand accidentally brushed against the back of Lan Yan’s several times. Her heart rate accelerated and she felt a surge of joy, but she restrained herself.
After getting the tickets, Lan Yan frowned as she saw several young girls trying to squeeze through toward them. Without hesitation, when Su Yi’an’s hand inevitably pressed close again, Lan Yan reached out and gripped it firmly.
She had heard the girls’ chatter. Lan Yan disliked crowded places to begin with; she only came because she couldn’t bear to refuse Su Yi’an’s kindness. In twenty-nine years, this was only her second time in a movie theater—the first was when she accompanied Jiang Mu after a breakup to watch a horror movie. This was her first time watching a romance with someone of the opposite sex.
Previously, she had only seen that Chen Zhi was the lead and agreed without checking the genre. Had she known it was a romance, she might have hesitated. Given her current relationship with the little Alpha, watching such a movie felt awkward. However, she disliked the approach of strangers even more.
Lan Yan’s expression turned cold. She pulled Su Yi’an, who was holding the tickets, closer. Tilting her head slightly—which, from a certain angle, looked like she was kissing the girl’s ear she actually whispered: “Do you want some milk tea?”
Lan Yan didn’t drink the stuff; she preferred coffee or tea. But seeing so many young people with it, she assumed the girl liked it too. She noticed the girl staring at the couples’ drinks and figured she was craving some. Since Lan Yan felt guilty for using the girl to “put on a show,” she wanted to compensate her. Not just a cup of milk tea—if the girl asked for a whole shop, she’d give it to her. From the moment they met, she felt she owed her too much, especially regarding the child.
Seeing their intimate posture, the group of girls stopped pushing forward in disappointment.
“Let’s go, looks like they’re a couple. They were probably just having a spat.”
“Ugh, of course. Beautiful Alphas always end up with beautiful Omegas, leaving us plain folks single.”
Su Yi’an was sharp. Even though she was internally “on fire” from Lan Yan’s touch, she knew Sister Grape was only being intimate to ward off strangers. She shook her head sensibly. “No thanks, Sister.”
In truth, she loved sweets and wanted to share a drink with her, just like the other couples. But the reality that she wasn’t truly in Sister’s heart yet was painful. At least they could watch a sweet movie together.
Her palm felt hot where Lan Yan held it. Despite the logic of the situation, seeing the clingy couples around her made Su Yi’an feel a bit dejected. She wanted to be clingy with Sister in the light of day, too.
Lan Yan saw that dejection and felt a wave of helplessness. If you want milk tea, just say so. Why be so stubborn? She felt like a “bad sister” who was constantly bullying the girl. She let go of Su Yi’an’s hand and said softly, “Let’s go buy some.”
“Huh?” Su Yi’an didn’t hear her clearly. She had been busy envying the “dog-couple” to her right who were currently making out. It was practically a personal attack.
Lan Yan didn’t repeat herself; she let her actions speak. By the time Su Yi’an snapped out of it, she was holding an iced pearl milk tea.
“Let’s go. Don’t daze off, it’s time to check tickets.” Lan Yan took the tickets and led the way.
Su Yi’an couldn’t suppress her smile. The tea hadn’t even touched her lips, yet her heart felt sweet. Even the ice cubes felt warm to her. She didn’t envy anyone anymore. She had Sister’s care.
“Thank you, Sister!” Su Yi’an caught up, her voice bubbling with joy.
Lan Yin hadn’t been exaggerating about Chen Zhi’s popularity. By the time Su Yi’an booked the tickets, only four seats in the very back row were left. She picked two side-by-side. The view wasn’t great, but Su Yi’an didn’t care about the movie; she just wanted to experience a “normal date” with Sister.
However, once the lights dimmed, the Beta couple to her left started kissing and they weren’t being quiet about it. Su Yi’an stole a glance at the dignified Sister Grape to her right and swallowed hard.
The gaze from her side was too intense to ignore. Lan Yan turned to ask what was wrong, but then she caught sight of the couple next to Su Yi’an, whose movements were becoming increasingly bold. She frowned.
“Let’s swap seats,” Lan Yan whispered. These Beta youngsters were going too far. Young people had little self-control and were easily influenced by “bad examples.” She assumed that was why the girl was staring at her so intensely.
They swapped, but the physical contact in the narrow space was unavoidable. The spark in Su Yi’an’s heart became a wildfire. As they brushed past each other, her breathing hitched. Just then, the movie hit a silent moment, and Lan Yan heard it clearly.
Once settled, Lan Yan coughed loudly to warn the overly affectionate couple. They stopped, embarrassed.
“Sister, I want to…” Su Yi’an poked the back of Lan Yan’s hand.
Lan Yan, startled like a bird at a gunshot, hissed: “No, you don’t.”
She blamed the couple for “corrupting” the girl. She understood youthful impulses, but she wouldn’t indulge her. Not in a theater, not even at home.
Su Yi’an pulled her hand back, looking aggrieved. “…Sister, I’m just thirsty. I wanted a sip of the iced tea.”
Sister Grape really had the “overbearing CEO” vibe now. She won’t let me kiss her, and now she won’t even let me drink my tea? So bossy… just like when she kisses me. Su Yi’an pouted, then smiled at the memory.
Lan Yan: “…”
Just milk tea? She thought the girl was trying to imitate the couple. She picked up the tea and handed it over. “Don’t drink too much ice at night.”
Su Yi’an lowered her eyes. “Okay, just one sip.” She took a massive gulp that nearly emptied the cup and sighed contentedly. Ice is good; it cooled my ‘fire’ down by half.
The movie continued. Suddenly, the senior on screen pinned the junior against a wall and kissed her. Lan Yan’s body tensed. She peeked at Su Yi’an, who was watching intently. Lan Yan’s ears turned red, and she clenched her fists. I should have watched a horror movie. Then maybe she’d just hide in my arms… wait, no. We should just watch the children’s channel at home.
As the audience whispered about how “sweet” the movie was, Lan Yan grew more restless. She ended up glancing at Su Yi’an six times in ten minutes.
“Is the movie not good, Sister?” Su Yi’an asked. She noticed the constant glances. “We can leave if you want.”
“No, it’s good,” Lan Yan lied. She didn’t want to ruin the experience for the girl who “loved Chen Zhi.”
The movie ended an hour later, but Lan Yan felt like a lifetime had passed. Her mind was full of scenes that shouldn’t be there.
“Sister, watch out!” Su Yi’an pulled her back as she almost walked into someone.
“Sorry, little brother. Are you okay?” Lan Yan apologized to a young boy.
“I’m fine!” the boy chirped, holding out a rose. “Beautiful Sister, want to buy a flower for your beautiful girlfriend? Only two yuan.”
She’s not my girlfriend, Lan Yan thought. But she didn’t say it. She scanned the boy’s QR code. “How much for all of them? I’ll buy the lot.”
The boy’s flowers were fresh, and he was sweet-talked. She didn’t want to break his heart, nor did she want to hurt the girl’s pride. It’s just flowers, she justified. I’ll explain later.
“Fifty-two roses in total! Since you’re taking them all, just give me fifty yuan.”
Before Lan Yan could pay, Su Yi’an pressed her hand down on the phone and handed a fifty-yuan bill to the boy. “I have the change, Sister. Let me pay.”
The flowers were going to end up in Sister’s vase anyway. By paying, it was as if they had exchanged flowers. She felt a surge of joy—Sister hadn’t corrected the boy when he called her “girlfriend.”
The boy took the money and handed the bouquet to Su Yi’an. “I wish you two sisters a hundred years of harmony, growing old together, and a beautiful daughter soon!” Then he ran off.
The two stood there, faces flushed. They shared a look and wordlessly walked home side-by-side.
Back at the apartment, Su Yi’an arranged the roses in a vase. The red flowers added a spark of life to the cool-toned room. It was only 10:00 PM. They sat on the sofa in silence.
Lan Yan relaxed. The awkwardness from the theater had faded. She looked at Su Yi’an, who was staring at the TV. “Do people your age… generally prefer ‘small’ ones?”
Su Yi’an, who had been dazing: “?”
Is Sister Grape talking about… chest size? Su Yi’an instinctively compared their figures and shook her head, blushing. “I’m not like others, Sister.”
She liked “big” ones like Sister Grape’s. Every experience with them had been… excellent.
Lan Yan’s mood lifted. She didn’t want to be called “Auntie” and she didn’t want to be in the same generation as Zhang Baiyang. She got up to put on a face mask.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Lan Yin.
“Little Aunt, I heard from Fourth Uncle you moved. I’m free tomorrow, can I come over?”
Lan Yan froze. She glanced at Su Yi’an. “Sure,” she said slowly. She couldn’t refuse without raising suspicion, especially since her pheromones were at their peak instability. Her brother Lan Yu had clearly sent the niece to spy on her.
She didn’t want her family to know about Su Yi’an yet. They would scare her especially the loud-mouthed Lan Yu.
After hanging up, she looked at Su Yi’an. “Lan Yin might mention a rumor about me being kept by an ‘old woman’,” Su Yi’an admitted. She had heard the call. She didn’t care about the rumor, but she enjoyed Sister’s protection.
Old woman… Lan Yan took a deep breath. She smiled suddenly. “Oh. It’s late. Go to sleep. Young people need to wake up early for school tomorrow.” She retreated to her bedroom.
Su Yi’an was left confused. Did I say something wrong?
She barely slept. The next morning, things seemed normal. They had breakfast and prepared to leave before Lan Yin arrived.
Ding-dong!
The doorbell rang, and Lan Yan’s phone rang simultaneously.
“Little Aunt, I’m at the door. Open up!” Lan Yin’s voice came through the phone.
The two inside froze in shock. Then, Lan Yan snapped into action. She grabbed Su Yi’an. “Take your bag and get in my bedroom. Don’t come out until I tell you!”
