- The Cannon Fodder 'Seme' is the Center of Attention Again (Quick Transmigration)
- Chapter 15 - Cannon Fodder Ex-Boyfriend (15), Let Me Help You, Okay?
Li Qingran straightened his body. He pulled the door open a little wider and leaned his head against the doorframe, gazing calmly at the Omega before him without saying a word.
Qi Ziyan tightened his grip on the leather suitcase. Perhaps realizing that showing up at someone’s door in the middle of the night was abrupt and strange, his expression flickered with embarrassment. However, that awkwardness quickly vanished, replaced by the pride of a pampered Omega young master. He tilted his chin up slightly to meet Li Qingran’s gaze.
“I have something to negotiate with you!”
Li Qingran raised an eyebrow. “What do you want to negotiate?”
“Actually, there is not much to negotiate!” Qi Ziyan raised his chin even higher. The white feathers on his jacket fluttered, making him look even more like a proud peacock.
Thrusting the suitcase forward with his pale hands, Qi Ziyan coughed twice before continuing, “There is five million in here. I want you to take this money and leave Xiao Jiu!”
“So, your help is…” Li Qingran’s gaze dropped from Qi Ziyan’s face to the suitcase. He paused for two seconds before looking back up. “Alright, I understand.”
He reached out toward Qi Ziyan, preparing to take the suitcase, but the latter did not let go. Instead, his grip tightened, his slender fingers losing all color and turning a sickly, pale white.
“I know this might not be fair to you, but you really cannot stay entangled with Xiao Jiu. I truly cannot stand by and watch my best friend be with a scum man!”
He sounded like he was trying to persuade Li Qingran, yet also as if he were trying to convince himself that his decision tonight was right. His speech grew more rapid. “Besides, neither the Gu family nor the Su family are people an ordinary Alpha like you can afford to offend. I know you might think Xiao Jiu is the highest level of society you can currently reach, but this level is truly full of danger and uncertainty right now. So, even for your own sake, stop clinging to a relationship that is destined to have no result.”
So after all that talk, is the money being given or not?
Li Qingran reached up to knead his throbbing temples. He really did not want to stand at his doorway during his rut listening to an Omega’s so called emotional manifesto. He retracted his hand, leaned down to hook the small bag from the corner of the wall, and then looked up at Qi Ziyan with a smile.
“Alright, I understand what you mean. I will think about it carefully.”
Qi Ziyan bit his lip and nodded. “That is good then.”
The topic should have ended there. After all, the Omega had rushed to his house specifically to convince him to leave Su Jingyi. But after several seconds of silence in the hallway, the Omega still showed no intention of leaving.
Li Qingran was confused. “Is there something else?”
It was just a normal question, but for some reason, the Omega’s face turned pale instantly. His light brown eyes seemed to hold a pool of water under the hallway lights, and his eyelashes flickered, causing the droplets to tremble as if they would fall at any moment.
Li Qingran blinked and waited for two more seconds, but still received no response. He did not force the issue and gave the tight-lipped Qi Ziyan a smile.
“Then I will go back inside. You should get home safely on the”
“Did you not want to”
Before Li Qingran could finish dismissing him, Qi Ziyan interrupted him. But he stopped halfway through his own sentence. His bitten lip grew even more swollen, moist, and red, trembling like a flower waiting to be plucked.
But the only Alpha the flower craved, the one it wanted to take its sweet nectar, did not pay attention to him. The man was not even looking at him anymore.
In front of the half open door, the Alpha had pulled out his phone the moment it vibrated. He looked down, and the faint white light from the screen hit his face, making the smile at the corners of his mouth even more obvious.
Whose message was he looking at? Who was he texting?
Qi Ziyan did not want to know, but the Alpha’s curved eyes and the clearly doting smile made it hard not to guess that this message was from an Omega. And it was likely from the very best friend he had just spent ten minutes talking about.
This was normal. From Su Jingyi’s perspective, he and Li Qingran were still in a passionate relationship. It was logical and valid for him to send a message now.
But Qi Ziyan felt an uncontrollable sense of betrayal. Especially as the Alpha held the money case he had just shoved over while ignoring him to reply to someone else. A searing flame spread from his heart to his entire body, turning his brain blank and blurring his vision as if a fog had descended.
With a snap, a string in his mind broke, and Qi Ziyan took a sudden, large step forward.
Li Qingran was replying to Gu Shiyu. This man was actually quite funny, reporting Su Jingyi’s behavior to him.
Gu Shiyu: [We are almost at your place. Su Jingyi explicitly stated he will not let me follow him upstairs.]
What should I do about that? Should he go criticize Su Jingyi for not letting the match made in heaven Protagonist Gong come up to a cannon fodder’s apartment?
Li Qingran kneaded his brow in amusement and sent a message back to Gu Shiyu saying he had already bought the suppressant and they did not need to come over. Otherwise, it would not be good if Su Jingyi and Qi Ziyan ran into each other.
It was a small matter if they argued; the most important thing was not to let Su Jingyi misunderstand that he was being forced to leave him.
Li Qingran tapped send and then stared at the screen, debating whether to play it even safer and tell Su Jingyi not to come either. Before he could even click the chat with Su Jingyi, a cloying scent of honey hit him. He instinctively looked up, but before he could register the scene, he was forcefully shoved into the apartment by a hand reaching from the side.
The suitcase in his hand, along with the bag of suppressants, fell to the floor. The test tube filled with icy blue liquid rolled out of the bag, clattered against the step, and rolled back toward the feet of the figure at the door.
Li Qingran instinctively reached for it, but someone else picked up the vial first.
“This is…” Qi Ziyan, finally having made it inside, blinked. After seeing the label on the tube, he showed no fear; instead, the fire in his brain burned even hotter. “Are you in your rut right now?”
Li Qingran, having missed the grab, felt truly irritable. “No, you”
“Why?”
He was interrupted by Qi Ziyan again. This time, the Omega did not stop halfway; he just kept repeating the same word.
“Why?”
Why were you so happy to text Su Jingyi after agreeing to my request? Did we not agree you would leave? Why did you have no intention of inviting me in for tea? Did you not say we were friends today? Why are you so cold to me, looking down at your phone to reply to others while talking to me?
Why did you refuse to mark me when I was in such pain during my Heat, and now that you are in your rut, you still have no interest in me? Are Alphas in rut not supposed to lose all reason and bite any Omega’s gland? Am I really that unattractive?
He had become like this because of Su Jingyi, yet the other person seemed entirely unaffected. Even the Alpha before him was no longer the version he remembered. Was it not he who told me to learn how to compensate myself? Was it not he who gently told me I could let go and do it? Then why is it that now that I am here, he won’t pay attention to me?
The Alpha’s polite manner made it seem as if nothing had changed, as if everything that happened in that private booth had been forgotten by everyone else. They continued their normal lives, leaving him alone to slowly break apart on that damp, rainy day.
But why? Why was he the only one breaking?
Qi Ziyan stepped closer to Li Qingran, large tears welling in his eyes and wetting his flushed cheeks. The thick honey scent seemed to fill every corner of the foyer in an instant.
Qi Ziyan drifted before Li Qingran like a withered leaf. He lowered his head, exposing his fair, vulnerable neck, craving for the man to pick him up like the leaf he had plucked earlier, to hold him in his palm and pass on the Alpha’s warmth and scent bit by bit.
He felt as if he were back on that rainy day, sitting in that damp embrace, but he would no longer allow the Alpha to be indifferent toward him.
Qi Ziyan knelt before Li Qingran, grabbing the Alpha’s shoulders. He tilted his head back, trying to get closer to the place emitting the scent of ice and snow. His swollen lips parted slightly, like a rose releasing an inviting fragrance.
“I really can help you. Believe me, let me help you, okay?”
The damp heat steamed in the narrow foyer. Amidst the tangled shadows, a red rose on the shoe cabinet swayed gently in the dim light. It bloomed with every petal, revealing a hint of pale pink within the fiery red, with water droplets trembling on it, soaking the core and the petals alike.
The phone buried under the suitcase vibrated again. The corner cracked screen lit up briefly before going dark, leaving a message that no one noticed:
Gu Shiyu: [I could not stop him. He has already gone up.]
