- Chapter 11 - Cannon Fodder Ex-Boyfriend (11), Just Compensation
So hot.
It feels so suffocating.
Qi Ziyan clutched the jacket in his arms tightly, burying his head completely inside it. Physiologically, his Heat had passed; however, psychologically, his craving had never ceased. In fact, as time stretched on, it grew increasingly turbulent.
The soft flesh at the back of his neck became hot and itchy once more from the friction, making him unable to stop himself from touching and scratching it. But no matter how he squeezed or kneaded it, until the area was completely swollen and the smooth, nearly transparent skin revealed the raw flesh beneath, the itch did not receive even a sliver of relief.
What on earth should he do?
What could he possibly do to obtain a moment’s escape?
Qi Ziyan curled his body into a ball. His chestnut hair had long since become damp and disheveled from his struggling, sticking in strands to his flushed cheeks. Combined with his blurred gaze and slightly parted mouth, it was hard to believe this was an Omega whose Heat had ended and whose pheromones were supposedly stabilizing.
Qi Ziyan himself felt that he had not returned to normal. Otherwise, why would he still be longing for an Alpha’s pheromones? Why would he crave to be held in that person’s arms, to have them lower their head to take his gland into their mouth, and then fiercely pierce that skin, never touched by another Alpha, with sharp canines, injecting that icy chill that was enough to calm him down completely?
He must be sick.
Otherwise, how could an Omega born into a top-tier wealthy family, educated as an elite since childhood, want his best friend’s Alpha to mark him? It defied his upbringing and was utterly immoral.
Furthermore, with his traditional family values, he would never choose to have a relationship with a strange Alpha; the person probably did not even know his name yet.
Therefore, whether analyzed through the ethics of friendship or his own emotional values, this craving in his heart was abnormal and needed to be purged. Qi Ziyan told himself this over and over in his mind. Yet, in reality, his arms uncontrollably hugged the jacket in his embrace tighter, and then tighter still.
Drenched all over as if fished out of water, the Omega shoved his fingers into his mouth. It was empty inside; besides the saliva he could not stop secreting, he could find nothing else. But Qi Ziyan felt it was wrong; his mouth should be filled with something.
Something delicate, smooth, and secreting a faint scent of blood mixed with the essence of ice and snow. When his tongue lightly licked that flesh, its owner would also tremble slightly.
“Mmph.”
Qi Ziyan could not help but let out a muffled groan. His fingertips touched his sensitive tonsils; the sensation of constant pressure gave him the urge to gag. However, the blurred figure replaying in his mind made him unable to stop swallowing. Under his struggling, the blankets had bunched into a mess beneath the semi-conscious Omega. Fabric rubbed against fabric, and the gaps between them grew larger, revealing the pale skin below and a hand that had gripped the sheets tightly at some point.
Just a little bit more.
Qi Ziyan’s brow furrowed tighter. The desire that remained unreleased for so long made him clench his teeth. Transparent saliva wetted his slender fingers, and his white teeth left pale pink marks on his delicate knuckles.
But it still was not enough.
He felt as if something was missing.
Qi Ziyan pulled his fingers from his mouth. His pink tongue licked his lips emptily, and then he uncontrollably leaned closer to the black jacket he had crumpled beyond recognition.
Ordinarily, such cheap fabric would not merit a second glance from Qi Ziyan, let alone be allowed to touch his skin.
Yet, at this moment, Qi Ziyan stuffed the wrinkled sleeve of the jacket directly into his mouth.
The pheromones on it had mostly dissipated; Qi Ziyan had to use his tongue to explore desperately just to find a trace of that cool, woody fragrance.
The fabric in his mouth grew thicker. This sensation of being refilled with pheromones gave his internal emptiness a momentary reprieve, but it also made his breathing difficult.
The surrounding oxygen grew thin. He should spit out the cloth and release his head from the jacket to prevent himself from breaking even further.
But he could not do it.
The Omega, whose brain was completely occupied by pheromones, did not even know what he was doing. His breathing grew heavier, and his vision more blurred. The golden light hit the teardrops at the corners of his eyes, refracting circles of colored light that fell around him like a dreamlike rain of bubbles.
The rain Qi Ziyan wanted to catch most.
“It is okay. You can be a bit bolder. After all, besides the two of us, no third person will know what happened today.”
In his daze, Qi Ziyan seemed to see the owner of those beautiful eyes appearing by the bedside. He was smiling, leaning down toward him:
“So, do not be afraid, and do not hesitate. Just let go and do it.”
But would this not be wrong?
“What is wrong about it? People should follow their most honest inner thoughts, should they not?”
But you are Xiao Jiu’s boyfriend.
“I do not have to be. Is he not going to get engaged to Gu Shiyu? If anyone is at fault, he was the one who did wrong first, was he not? Besides, the reason you are suffering so much right now is because of the two of them. If it was not to cooperate with Gu Shiyu’s plan, if it was not to save Su Jingyi, you would not be suffering this painful torture right now, would you?”
“So, you are just compensating yourself. This has nothing to do with morality. You can compensate yourself, and you need to compensate yourself.”
Is that so?
It is so.
Qi Ziyan blinked dazed eyes. The bubbles before him seemed to have increased to the point where they could completely submerge him. His fingers moved faster and faster, and the bubbles floating around him drew closer. Qi Ziyan instinctively stuck out his tongue, wanting to catch a bubble floating in front of him to taste it properly.
One bite after another.
One moment after another.
A slight groan escaped his nose. Qi Ziyan hugged the jacket in his arms as if he were hugging its owner. His fingertips gripped tighter and tighter, then suddenly let go.
A bundle of wet black fabric fell onto the equally mottled bedsheets.
A flash of silver light passed by. The Omega, lying exhausted on the bed, stared at the ceiling above and blinked slowly.
It was over.
And it was broken.
Within the empty room, a soft sob suddenly sounded near the hospital bed. In the next second, a rich honey scent exploded and spread rapidly in all directions.
The alarm system on the ceiling, which had been quiet for several hours, began to flash a piercing red light again. A group of medical staff in white coats rushed in and quickly left, so that by the time Gu Shiyu arrived, he only saw the figures of people disappearing at the end of the hallway.
“What happened?” He stopped a Beta who had just come out of Qi Ziyan’s room.
“Master Qi’s pheromones became disordered again. The doctor gave him suppressants and sedatives, and he was just pushed to the observation room for testing,” the Beta said honestly. “Are you here to visit Master Qi? You might need to wait outside for a while; the pheromones in the room have not been completely cleared yet.”
That did not matter.
He was just curious: Were Omega bodies really this fragile? Did an early Heat have such a massive impact on pheromones?
The Alpha standing quietly at the door of the ward frowned in confusion. Fortunately, the air purification system inside did not leave him to wonder for long; the indicator light at the door turned from red to green. Gu Shiyu sat on the sofa in the living area, staring at the steaming teacup on the coffee table. A beautiful yet distant face instinctively surfaced in his mind.
In truth, it was normal for that person to have boundaries and a sense of wariness toward him. They were not exactly familiar, and he had chosen to help the other party to achieve his own desired outcome; his motives were not pure.
So the Alpha did not need to learn too much about him, nor did they need to maintain a close relationship. They were not friends to begin with.
Yes. That is how it was.
Gu Shiyu leaned quietly against the sofa, eyes slightly lowered, his hands on his knees tightening unconsciously. He felt a heaviness in his chest, as if after one mountain had moved, a new boulder had arrived. As his chest rose and fell, the stone pounded black holes into his heart that he did not know how to fill.
The steam rising before him, mixed with the faint scent of tea, suddenly transformed at one moment into a woody fragrance, a scent he should have disliked, yet could not help but dwell on.
Gu Shiyu pursed his lips. He reached out to pick up the teacup, standing up to pour away the tea that had suddenly become an eyesore.
However, just as he walked toward the waste disposal bin near the bedroom door, as a breeze blew past, he seemed to actually smell that cool woody fragrance.
It was very, very faint, but it was real.
The teacup, tilted halfway, paused in mid-air. The pale green tea briefly formed a stream, but because of the Alpha’s sudden halt, it could only linger on the rim of the cup, unable to fall further.
The water swayed. Gu Shiyu blinked slowly at the bedroom door, which was not fully closed.
Is it an illusion?
Gu Shiyu thought so, yet his free hand uncontrollably reached toward the half-open door.
The distance closed. Then, one second before Gu Shiyu’s fingertips touched the gold-plated doorknob:
“What are you doing?” A confused voice suddenly rang out behind Gu Shiyu.
The remaining half of the tea dropped into the bin along with the cup. Gu Shiyu turned instinctively and met an unexpected pair of eyes.
“Su Jingyi?”
He frowned imperceptibly. “What are you doing here?”
“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?” Su Jingyi sneered, his gaze sweeping around the room. “Where is Ziyan?”
“He”
Gu Shiyu was about to say that Qi Ziyan had gone to the observation room when the Beta who had previously informed him of Qi Ziyan’s condition stepped out from behind Su Jingyi, looking clearly helpless:
“Master Gu, Master Su, I am terribly sorry. Just now, after Master Qi stabilized, he demanded to be discharged immediately. He said he had urgent business to attend to.”
