The Cannon Fodder Ex-Wife Changes to Take the Black Moonlight Script - Chapter 42.2
She felt this was another futile attempt at seeking advice.
Until she spotted one titled [Nursing Basics: Hydration].
[This might be useful, right? Let me see. Sick people often experience dry mouth, this is the body sending a warning signal to the brain, reminding it to hydrate. So, when your partner is sick, how do you hydrate them? Make them drink hot water? Wrong. The key to hydration lies in.]
Shang Shiqian closed it immediately.
[Little Black System, my brain is still a brain stop pouring sewage into it, okay?]
System: [Heh heh hehe.]
Realizing the system was useless, Shang Shiqian turned to Pu Feifei instead.
A few minutes later, Shang Shiqian followed Pu Feifei, who was bringing Wei Yixian dinner, upstairs.
Pu Feifei pressed the intercom doorbell: “President Wei, your dinner is ready.”
The lock clicked open automatically.
The master bedroom was a three-section suite. Upon opening the first door, one would see the foyer.
To the left of the foyer was the walk-in closet, while the right led to the bathroom.
Opposite the bedroom door stood a four-panel sliding door, with warm white light filtering through the frosted glass.
Beyond this door was a small living area furnished with a sofa, coffee table, television, and a small enclosed balcony.
The opposite wall displayed minimalist, luxury-style artwork.
An arched doorway without a door connected the small living area to the bedroom.
Shang Shiqian didn’t proceed further, as Wei Yixian was currently seated on the sofa in the small living area.
Wei Yixian’s gaze bypassed Pu Feifei and settled on Shang Shiqian.
Just as Pu Feifei was about to speak, Wei Yixian raised a hand. “Go attend to other matters. I’ll handle dinner myself.”
She didn’t seem the least bit surprised that Shang Shiqian had returned.
Pu Feifei shot Shang Shiqian a glance, set down the items on the tray, and closed the door behind her on the way out.
Wei Yixian asked Shang Shiqian, “Why didn’t you have someone pick you up?”
“The dinner was canceled last minute.”
Shang Shiqian poured the Yam and Tuckahoe Porridge and Loquat Flower and Green Olive Pigeon Soup into separate bowls and brought them to Wei Yixian.
Wei Yixian snapped, “Stay away from me.”
Shang Shiqian paused, then replied, “Oh,” setting the bowls down before obediently moving to the adjacent sofa.
Wei Yixian coughed a few times into a handkerchief before rasping, “Go put on a mask.”
Shang Shiqian suddenly understood. “Wait, did you catch the flu and are worried about infecting me?”
Wei Yixian lifted her eyes. “Hurry up.”
“Isn’t it a bit late for that? We slept together last night. The virus might already be incubating inside me.”
Wei Yixian: “…”
She rubbed her temples and scoffed. “Are you sure you don’t want to wear a mask? If you get sick, you might be bedridden for days, no chess for you.”
Shang Shiqian weighed the options, then obediently went to fetch a mask and put it on.
When she returned, Wei Yixian was listlessly eating the porridge.
The air conditioning wasn’t on; only a standing fan stirred the sweltering air.
Wei Yixian had little appetite, struggling to swallow each bite while a sheen of sweat formed on her forehead.
“Why not open the windows for ventilation?” Shang Shiqian headed toward the balcony.
Wei Yixian wanted to say the room had an air exchange system, making open windows unnecessary, but seeing Shang Shiqian huffing and puffing as she opened every window, she swallowed her words.
Shang Shiqian handed her a tissue to wipe her sweat and asked, “Are you feeling awful? I looked it up symptoms can include high fever, vomiting, coughing, congestion, throat pain like swallowing knives, and bone aches.”
Having never experienced it herself, she couldn’t fathom how bad it really felt.
But just imagining these symptoms afflicting Wei Yixian made her uneasy.
After a moment of silence, Wei Yixian said, “Then brace yourself.”
Shang Shiqian replied optimistically, “I’ll worry about it when it happens.”
“…Stop jinxing things.” Wei Yixian changed the subject. “Did Shang Shidai go to East City University to see you again?”
With Chu Fei acting as an informant, Shang Shiqian knew she couldn’t hide it from Wei Yixian. “Yeah, but she didn’t do anything. I also explained to her, you didn’t make me get plastic surgery, and my appearance has nothing to do with you.”
She just hoped the two of them could clear up misunderstandings, so she made sure to be unequivocal where it mattered.
Wei Yixian thought hazily: Does it have nothing to do with me? Not necessarily.
She had a headache all day and spent the day in a daze, but finally figured it out:
Shang Shiqian’s resurrection from death was just a bargaining chip the system used to disrupt the original plot.
It tied her life and death to Shang Shiqian’s. On the surface, it seemed she determined the lifespan of Shang Shiqian after revival, but in reality, it was the system and that damned “original plot” truly controlling Shang Shiqian’s life and death.
They gambled with Shang Shiqian’s life and her fate as stakes, playing against each other at the table.
If she didn’t love Shang Shiqian, Shang Shiqian would have to die.
What kind of logic was that?
Unnamed anger burned in her heart, making her already rapid heartbeat even more irregular.
The tachycardia brought her symptoms like palpitations and dizziness.
Shang Shiqian, who had been closely monitoring her physical condition, was the first to notice her abnormality.
Not only was she sweating more, but her complexion had also worsened.
“Wei Yixian, are you feeling very unwell?”
Worried that something might happen to Wei Yixian, Shang Shiqian quickly called Pu Feifei.
Pu Feifei promptly summoned the private doctor.
After blood tests and a thorough examination, the doctor said, “The symptoms have clearly worsened. Take medicine first. If the fever persists, you’ll need an IV.”
Wei Yixian pointed at Shang Shiqian and said to the doctor, “Give her a check-up.”
The doctor replied, “Even if she caught it from you, she’d only be in the incubation period. Nothing would show up in tests yet.”
Despite saying this, she still drew Shang Shiqian’s blood for testing.
Half an hour later, the doctor got the results.
She looked at Shang Shiqian, then at the report, and asked, “Are you feeling any discomfort, like chills or a sore throat?”
Shang Shiqian shook her head.
Hearing the doctor’s question, Wei Yixian guessed the situation. She asked, “Did she get infected?”
The doctor said, “According to the test results, she does have the flu, but without obvious symptoms.”
She asked Shang Shiqian again, “Are you sure you feel fine?”
“Absolutely,” Shang Shiqian confirmed.
The doctor deduced, “She might be an asymptomatic carrier.”
She glanced at Wei Yixian and said something cryptic: “It’s hard to say who infected whom.”
Shang Shiqian widened her eyes. “Did I infect Wei Yixian?”
Wei Yixian glared coldly at the doctor. “As a doctor, you should be responsible with your words.”
The doctor shrugged. “I just think that since you both have the flu at the same time one symptomatic, one asymptomatic, it’s hard to say whether it’s due to differences in incubation periods.”
She then told Shang Shiqian, “Even though you’re young, you still need to watch your diet and rest.”
With that, she left.
Pu Feifei asked, “Doctor Qin, what about your medical kit.”
“I might have to come back tonight. I’ll leave it for now.”
In the room, Shang Shiqian looked remorseful. “Right, you’ve barely gone out these past two days. How could you have gotten infected so easily? Only I’ve been outside every day, exposed to so many people.”
Thinking back, there had been frequent coughing and sneezing in the Go Room.
Wei Yixian said, “Don’t overthink it. You wear a mask every day. How could you have gotten infected so easily?”
“Masks aren’t 100% effective.”
Wei Yixian said nothing more.
She took her medicine and headed to the study.
Shang Shiqian trailed after her. “Why aren’t you resting? Where are you going?”
“To take care of something.”
“The doctor said you need to rest properly.”
After speaking, Shang Shiqian worriedly said to the system: [System, judging by Wei Yixian’s expression, she’s probably going to work while sick. Why do domineering CEOs always have this setting? Is it to showcase their strong will and iron determination by working through illness?]
[Well, if domineering CEOs spent all their time dating, how else would they show they’re actually workaholics?]
Wei Yixian: “…”
She turned around with gritted teeth, grabbed Shang Shiqian’s wrist, and pulled her back into the room.
Shang Shiqian was quite pleased: [I didn’t expect her to actually listen to advice.]
Wei Yixian: If I didn’t listen, your nonsense with the system might worsen my condition.
[But why drag me in when she’s resting? To sing her a lullaby?]
Wei Yixiang: “…”
She lay down on the bed, then scooted half a foot inward, saying, “Come rest.”
After Shang Shiqian’s reflex arc completed a full 360-degree aerial spin, the message finally reached her brain.
“Huh?!” She inexplicably felt nervous and shy: “You want me to rest here, on your bed with you?”
“Mhm.”
“But…” She reached out toward Wei Yixian’s forehead.
She suspected Wei Yixian was delirious from fever and playing the substitute game again.
Wei Yixian caught her outstretched hand.
Last night’s scene replayed, the same determined look in Wei Yixian’s eyes, except last night she was drunk, and today she was feverish.
Shang Shiqian didn’t hesitate for long.
Resting with Wei Yixian wasn’t so bad; at least she could monitor her condition.
So she calmly lay down beside Wei Yixian.
Wei Yixian’s bed wasn’t as soft as novels described it was moderately firm, quite spine-friendly.
Just as she was lost in thought, Wei Yixian suddenly reached over and removed her mask: “Don’t wear this while sleeping.”
“…” Shang Shiqian chuckled. “Wei Yixian, should I sing you a lullaby or tell you a story?”
Wei Yixian: “…”
“You know how?”
Shang Shiqian: “Oh, right, I don’t. But I could lecture you about Go. Some parts are real snoozers the East City University students nearly fell asleep during my afternoon session.”
Wei Yixian scoffed. “Aren’t you worried about developing knife-swallowing symptoms?”
“No more talking.” She pressed her forehead against Shang Shiqian’s shoulder, listening to the rhythm from her left atrium.
On the surface, CEO Wei was concerned about Shang Four’s hoarse voice.
In reality,
CEO Wei: You want to talk yourself thirsty so I’ll hydrate you, don’t you? Not happening!
Shang Four: !?
