When they entered the house, Aunt Zhang had just brought out a pot of stomach-nourishing soup from the kitchen.
“Miss Gu, Miss Jiang, you’re finally back.”
The soup had been reheated once, but its rich aroma still filled the air.
As she set the bowls on the table, Aunt Zhang remarked, “Miss Jiang made the soup before going out to pick you up. I thought you’d return much sooner.”
Gu Lanqiu paused mid-step and glanced back at Jiang Mengyu. She had made the soup?
Aunt Zhang wouldn’t lie to her.
No wonder Jiang Mengyu had been upset, she must have been looking forward to this.
Yet, during the entire ride back, Jiang Mengyu hadn’t mentioned it at all.
Gu Lanqiu hadn’t planned on drinking the soup, but now she silently picked up the bowl and drank half of it in front of Jiang Mengyu.
At first, the woman beside her said nothing. Only when Gu Lanqiu set down the spoon did Jiang Mengyu murmur, “If you can’t finish it, don’t force yourself. Let’s go rest.”
Gu Lanqiu studied Jiang Mengyu’s expression for a few seconds before nodding. “Alright.”
At least she hadn’t completely wasted Jiang Mengyu’s effort. Surely, she wouldn’t hold onto this resentment anymore?
Even in comforting someone, Gu Lanqiu was so casual.
Jiang Mengyu’s expression betrayed nothing, and Gu Lanqiu assumed she had let it go.
Upstairs, as Gu Lanqiu reached to push open the master bedroom door and flick on the light, a figure suddenly pressed against her from behind, hands on her shoulders, pushing her inside.
The world spun before her eyes. By the time her vision cleared, she found herself pinned against the wall, her wrists held firmly.
Her breath hitched without warning. The room remained unlit, but in the dim glow from the hallway, Gu Lanqiu could see twin flames flickering in Jiang Mengyu’s eyes.
Surprisingly, she felt little shock, only a strange, quiet inevitability. Slowly, she relaxed her tense body and asked in a low voice, “What do you want?”
She already knew the answer.
Jiang Mengyu responded by sealing their lips together, her soft mouth plundering Gu Lanqiu’s breath, grinding against her lips until the taste of jasmine seeped into every part of her.
The darkness amplified the sensations of the body, making Jiang Mengyu’s hands feel scorching hot. Gu Lanqiu’s clothes had loosened at some point, and a slender, pale hand lingered around her waist and abdomen, stirring waves of burning desire.
Their lips remained locked, yet Gu Lanqiu could hear Jiang Mengyu’s voice.
Lanqiu…
I like you so much.
I want to devour you.
The words that followed were impossible to comprehend.
A faint blush spread across Gu Lanqiu’s face, trailing down from the tips of her ears, her neck faintly radiating heat.
Her collar had also loosened, revealing faint red marks above the curves of her chest.
Her body easily recalled every sensation Jiang Mengyu had ever evoked in her. Breathing in the scent of jasmine, Gu Lanqiu’s head spun dizzily.
Lanqiu…
Jiang Mengyu’s earlier calm had clearly been an act.
Gu Lanqiu let out a heavy breath, feeling as though she might truly be swallowed whole.
Jiang Mengyu’s inner voice continued to whisper in her ear.
Each utterance of Lanqiu was so sticky and scorching that her ears tingled with numbness.
Pressing a hand against Jiang Mengyu’s shoulder, Gu Lanqiu spoke, her voice noticeably hoarser than before, “Call me jie (older sister).”
Only this title made Gu Lanqiu feel that Jiang Mengyu was calling out to her, only her.
The kisses along her neck paused briefly, but before Gu Lanqiu could react, Jiang Mengyu’s lips had already moved to her earlobe, her voice finally carrying real warmth.
“Jie.”
Gu Lanqiu suddenly clutched Jiang Mengyu’s clothes, responding breathlessly, “Mm.”
Her shirt slipped to her elbows as she tilted her head, pressing close to Jiang Mengyu. Just as that hand ventured lower, she stopped Jiang Mengyu’s movements in time.
“Go take a shower.”
Jiang Mengyu kissed her flushed cheek. “Together.”
Gu Lanqiu didn’t refuse.
Soon, the sound of running water filled the bathroom.
Thick steam blurred the reflection in the mirror. Gu Lanqiu braced herself against the sink, her brows slightly furrowed as she struggled to suppress a soft gasp that escaped her lips.
The person behind her had been holding her waist firmly to steady her, but upon hearing her breathy moan, suddenly let go, tapping a finger against the fogged mirror.
The image before them gradually cleared. Gu Lanqiu’s fingers tightened instantly, and she turned her head away, wanting to shut her eyes. “You!”
Seeing herself like this was still too much for Gu Lanqiu.
Noticing her intention, Jiang Mengyu pinched her chin, effortlessly turning her face back. Her usually calm voice, soaked in the humid air, carried an inexplicable, icy dominance.
“Open your eyes.”
Gu Lanqiu’s legs trembled too much to support her. Half-leaning into Jiang Mengyu’s embrace, she shook her head. “I can’t.”
Sweat-dampened hair clung to her neck, unnoticed. Jiang Mengyu studied Gu Lanqiu’s drenched reflection in the mirror. “Be good.”
“Jie.”
Gu Lanqiu’s lashes fluttered heavily. That single word, “jie,” drained all her remaining strength.
Her eyelids slowly lifted, and the sight before her sent Gu Lanqiu’s heart racing uncontrollably. The mirror was mostly filled with her own reflection, yet her attention was involuntarily drawn to Jiang Mengyu.
Jiang Mengyu had casually tied up her long hair, her pitch-black eyes fixed intently on Gu Lanqiu’s reflection in the mirror. Her lips were a striking shade of red, her beautiful face devoid of much expression. But the colder she appeared, the more her current actions seemed ambiguous and provocative, brimming with a stark contrast.
The hand gripping her chin was slender yet strong. Gu Lanqiu was forced to tilt her neck back under Jiang Mengyu’s guidance. Completely bare, water droplets trailed down her waist, falling onto the back of Jiang Mengyu’s hand.
Her fingers were so long.
Gu Lanqiu’s legs trembled. “Wait a second…”
“Why?” Jiang Mengyu ignored her plea.
Gu Lanqiu clutched her hand, taking several deep breaths before barely managing to utter, “Let’s go to the bed.”
She could hardly stand any longer.
Jiang Mengyu didn’t move. “Didn’t you say you wanted to shower earlier?”
She was only doing as Gu Lanqiu had asked.
The showerhead continued to pour water relentlessly. Gu Lanqiu closed her eyes, then opened them again. “I don’t want to anymore.”
Jiang Mengyu neither agreed nor disagreed. She casually kissed the tip of Gu Lanqiu’s ear. “Do you see it now?”
What?
Gu Lanqiu’s gaze grew increasingly dazed.
“Remember how this feels.”
“Sister.”
Jiang Mengyu stared at Gu Lanqiu’s flushed face in the mirror, murmuring, “The only one by your side can be me.”
She was still jealous, after all.
The overwhelming possessiveness pressed down on Gu Lanqiu, making it hard for her to breathe.
[Ding! Target Gu Lanqiu’s favorability +5. Current total favorability: 217.]
Gu Lanqiu parted her lips, about to speak, when the hand that had tormented her suddenly withdrew.
Jiang Mengyu casually rinsed the water from her fingertips, then wrapped Gu Lanqiu in a towel and scooped her up into her arms.
“No!” Gu Lanqiu snapped back to her senses.
Jiang Mengyu’s injuries hadn’t fully healed yet this movement might strain her wounds.
Jiang Mengyu said nothing, carrying Gu Lanqiu straight out of the bathroom. Despite Gu Lanqiu’s weight, Jiang Mengyu held her as effortlessly as if she were a sheet of paper, her steps light and steady.
The wound on Jiang Mengyu’s chest was deep but not large on the surface. After some time to recover, it had already begun to scab over.
Pulling at it would undoubtedly hurt, but she didn’t seem to care. Instead, she caressed Gu Lanqiu’s face and kissed her again, giving her no chance to speak.
The lights in the room stayed on for a long time.
By the early hours of the morning, the storm had subsided. Gu Lanqiu lay tightly embraced in Jiang Mengyu’s arms. She wanted to say something, but the overwhelming drowsiness took over, and she fell into a deep sleep.
Jiang Mengyu, however, felt little sleepiness. She rested her chin atop Gu Lanqiu’s head, gazing at the peacefully slumbering woman in her arms. Her eyes lingered on the lingering flush beneath Gu Lanqiu’s eyes, her expression calm and detached.
The next morning, Gu Lanqiu unsurprisingly woke up late again.
As expected, Jiang Mengyu was nowhere to be seen when she awoke. Gu Lanqiu slipped into her slippers and got up to change, but just then, the door was pushed open from the outside. She turned and locked eyes with Jiang Mengyu.
Gu Lanqiu froze. She had assumed Jiang Mengyu was painting again.
“You’re awake,” Jiang Mengyu said, carrying a tray over to the coffee table.
Gu Lanqiu watched her back, noticing that Jiang Mengyu had also changed her clothes. It didn’t look like her usual loungewear more like something she’d wear to go out.
“Are you heading out?”
“Yeah.”
Gu Lanqiu clenched her fingers slightly. “What for?”
“Zhou Xinying asked to meet me.” Jiang Mengyu had no intention of hiding it from her.
At the mention of Zhou Xinying’s name, Gu Lanqiu’s already grim expression darkened further. “Since when?”
“Yesterday.”
Yesterday, Zhou Xinying had already arranged to meet Jiang Mengyu, but Jiang Mengyu hadn’t mentioned it to her at all. If she hadn’t asked just now, would Jiang Mengyu have simply kept it from her?
Besides, what could they possibly have to discuss in person?
She’d never seen Jiang Mengyu show this much concern for Zhou Xinying before.
Perhaps because she hadn’t heard Gu Lanqiu’s response for too long, Jiang Mengyu turned to look at her. “Lanqiu?”
Gu Lanqiu’s expression was blank. “What?”
“Are you upset?”
Gu Lanqiu curled her lips slightly. “Why would I be upset?”
She didn’t seem to realize her emotions were once again being swayed by Jiang Mengyu. Avoiding eye contact, she muttered, “You’re overthinking it.”
Jiang Mengyu watched her quietly. “I didn’t think you’d care about such trivial matters.”
“Right.” Gu Lanqiu exhaled softly. “I already told you.”
“This is your private business. It has nothing to do with me.”
“You don’t need to report to me, either.”
