- Chapter 36.2 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Who Secretly Loves the Female Lead Omega (33)
Chu Muyao was a little worried, but Chi Jingyan wasn’t responding to her messages, so she couldn’t ask directly.
Fortunately, Jiang Mengyu had been submitting her homework every day. Chu Muyao had secretly checked, the handwriting was definitely Jiang Mengyu’s own.
It should be fine, right?
No one suspected that Jiang Mengyu had been locked up by Chi Jingyan. After all, Chi Jingyan didn’t seem like the type to do such a thing.
Chi Jingyan truly hadn’t been before.
That was why System 031 found its host utterly despicable!
Look at what she had driven Female Lead A to become?
What made System 031 even more distraught was that Female Lead A didn’t seem to realize at all that the host was acting. She seemed convinced that the host liked her, enduring even the coldest treatment from her.
System 031 looked at its host’s beautiful, deep-set features and couldn’t help but let out a wail. Once upon a time, it had been just as naive as Female Lead A, thinking that with such striking features, the host couldn’t possibly be a bad person.
Too much sorrow to recount.
Now, it alone had seen through the host’s true nature.
Chi Jingyan’s tolerance was growing stronger.
Even if her dynamic with Jiang Mengyu now seemed completely reversed.
Once, she had looked down on Jiang Mengyu. Now, it was Jiang Mengyu who didn’t want to acknowledge her.
But as long as she could coax Jiang Mengyu into no longer being angry, Chi Jingyan could endure even things she would have never considered before.
Human boundaries were always shifting.
Once a firmly held line was crossed, things would spiral out of control.
That was exactly what was happening to Chi Jingyan now.
Night fell.
In a familiar position, Chi Jingyan sat on Jiang Mengyu’s lap, the rich scent of fruit wine filling the room, creating a hazy, intoxicating atmosphere.
Jiang Mengyu leaned against the headboard, a copy of Classic College Entrance Exam Questions and Analysis in her hands, halfway read.
A slender hand pressed down on the page as Chi Jingyan leaned in. “Stop reading.”
Couldn’t Jiang Mengyu spare her a single glance?
Chi Jingyan’s cheeks were flushed. Tonight, she wore a very special outfit, a tight leather dress that hugged her curves, its hem barely reaching her thighs. Her shapely legs were encased in fishnet stockings, shimmering under the warm glow of the lights.
Further up, a pair of fluffy cat ears adorned her head, and with every slight movement, the bell around her neck jingled softly.
Yet Jiang Mengyu remained as unresponsive as a blind, unromantic fool. “Let go.”
Chi Jingyan bit her thin lip. “Jiang Mengyu, don’t you like it?”
Could that dull textbook really be more interesting to Jiang Mengyu than her?
“I don’t like it.”
Jiang Mengyu reached out to push Chi Jingyan away, only to have her fingers caught by Chi Jingyan instead.
“Then why did you reply with ‘Mhm’ when Chen He’an shared with you this afternoon at 17:48 about the anime music festival happening this weekend, mentioning how cute one of the catgirl Cosers was?”
“Isn’t that agreement?”
Jiang Mengyu frowned. “You went through my phone again?”
Chi Jingyan didn’t answer. After a while, she muttered, “Or is it just because it’s me, so you don’t like it?”
“Mhm…”
Before Jiang Mengyu could finish her sentence, Chi Jingyan suddenly leaned down and bit her lips.
The sound of jingling bells rang in her ears as the pair of fluffy cat ears slipped slightly, their soft fur brushing unintentionally against Jiang Mengyu’s face. Her breathing grew uneven, but her lips remained tightly sealed.
A long moment later, Chi Jingyan finally straightened up, her eyes tinged with a faint redness. “You’re not allowed to speak.”
Even if she knew Jiang Mengyu might be saying the opposite, Chi Jingyan would still feel upset.
After saying this, she lowered her head to kiss the corner of Jiang Mengyu’s lips and murmured, “I didn’t delete her, that’s already being very generous.”
She had even allowed Jiang Mengyu to keep chatting with Chen He’an, only sneaking a glance or two when Jiang Mengyu wasn’t paying attention.
Jiang Mengyu looked weary. “Chi Jingyan.”
Her voice still carried a faint pant, but her expression had already returned to calm. “Will you never learn to respect others?”
Handcuffing her, checking her phone, even if Chi Jingyan claimed to love her, she still controlled every aspect of Jiang Mengyu’s life as if she were a caged songbird.
Chi Jingyan faltered. “No, that’s not it.”
She grabbed her own phone and held it out. “You can look through mine too.”
She was just jealous of anyone who could capture Jiang Mengyu’s attention.
Jiang Mengyu turned her face away. “I’m not interested in your phone.”
Chi Jingyan fell silent for a moment. “Then I’ll take off the handcuffs, okay?”
Though she said she would remove them, they weren’t completely gone, just loosened enough for Jiang Mengyu to move freely. The cuffs on her wrists now looked more like a pair of elegant bracelets.
Chi Jingyan caressed Jiang Mengyu’s face. “Don’t look at me like that, okay?”
When Jiang Mengyu had spoken earlier, her gaze had been so indifferent, as if she were looking at a complete stranger.
Chi Jingyan was terrified.
She had thought the last thing she wanted to see was hatred in Jiang Mengyu’s eyes, but in this moment, she realized something even worse than hatred, indifference.
It was as if Jiang Mengyu had already given up on her entirely, and no matter what Chi Jingyan did, she could no longer elicit even the slightest reaction from her.
“Jiang Mengyu,” Chi Jingyan asked softly, “when can we go back to how things were before?”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t answer.
But Chi Jingyan stubbornly wanted a response.
Jiang Mengyu let out a quiet sigh. “When are you going to let me leave?”
Chi Jingyan’s lips trembled. “As long as you agree to get back together, I’ll let you go.”
“Get back together?” Jiang Mengyu’s expression turned mocking. “When were we ever in a relationship?”
Chi Jingyan’s heart ached. Slowly, she withdrew her hand, her voice so soft it could be blown away by the wind.
“I wouldn’t kiss or hold someone I don’t like.”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t respond, turning her gaze elsewhere.
Chi Jingyan knew she didn’t believe her.
Because she had done too many things in the past that made Jiang Mengyu uneasy, Jiang Mengyu had become disappointed in her.
