- Chapter 36.1 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Who Secretly Loves the Female Lead Omega (33)
“Do you really not like me at all?”
Chi Jingyan didn’t notice Jiang Mengyu’s momentary distraction.
The idea had popped into her head suddenly, but after saying it out loud, Chi Jingyan felt it was actually a feasible plan.
Last time when she gave the necklace to Jiang Mengyu, hadn’t Jiang Mengyu asked if she had made it herself?
She probably liked it, right?
Chi Jingyan wasn’t sure.
She didn’t have much experience in pursuing someone. When she used to give gifts to Chu Miao, she simply chose whatever seemed appropriate, sometimes even letting Secretary Zhao handle it.
Chi Jingyan had a feeling Jiang Mengyu wouldn’t appreciate such thoughtless gestures.
As she mentally sketched out possible necklace designs, she failed to notice Jiang Mengyu glancing at her from the corner of her eye before slightly furrowing her brows.
Clouds surrounding the moon…
Why would Chi Jingyan suddenly think of something like that?
But Jiang Mengyu didn’t ask. She only said coolly, “Chi Jingyan.”
“Don’t do unnecessary things.”
Chi Jingyan had just been delighted that Jiang Mengyu was finally willing to acknowledge her, only to freeze in place at those words.
She hadn’t forgotten, this was exactly what she had once said to Jiang Mengyu.
The joy and anticipation in her heart vanished instantly. Chi Jingyan bit her lip hard, the dull ache in her chest growing sharper.
Yet at the same time, it only confirmed her suspicion: Jiang Mengyu was indeed upset about what had happened before.
So Chi Jingyan could only murmur in protest, “It’s not unnecessary.”
She wasn’t used to being this candid, but she still spoke deliberately, word by word: “I just want to make you happy.”
Her attempts at appeasement were clumsy. Once rejected by Jiang Mengyu, she was at a loss for what to do next.
Jiang Mengyu fell silent again.
Chi Jingyan felt frustrated but didn’t press further. She decided to make the necklace first and give it to Jiang Mengyu directly.
After applying medicine to Jiang Mengyu’s neck, Chi Jingyan casually tied up her hair to keep it from touching the ointment.
Watching Jiang Mengyu sit so still, Chi Jingyan suddenly thought she resembled a lifelike doll, obedient and docile. Unable to resist, she leaned in and planted a kiss on Jiang Mengyu’s cheek.
Jiang Mengyu frowned and tried to dodge, but Chi Jingyan cupped her face and turned it back forcefully.
“It’s not like I haven’t kissed you before. Why are you avoiding me?”
After a pause, Chi Jingyan softened her voice, coaxing, “Jiang Mengyu, stop being mad at me, okay?”
Jiang Mengyu turned her face away, lips pressed into a tight line.
Chi Jingyan felt utterly helpless. If Jiang Mengyu would just talk to her, she could explain properly. But Jiang Mengyu refused to engage.
Being ignored like this was unbearable.
Yet Chi Jingyan knew Jiang Mengyu had every reason to be angry not just about the past, but also because she had imprisoned her.
But what else could she do?
What was done couldn’t be undone. She couldn’t turn back time, only try to make amends.
As for now…
She had already gone this far. Letting Jiang Mengyu go now would feel like a wasted effort.
Besides, she had done all this because of Jiang Mengyu. If only Jiang Mengyu would just admit that she actually liked her.
Watching Jiang Mengyu’s evasive demeanor, Chi Jingyan couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment in her heart.
She couldn’t tell whether Jiang Mengyu’s resistance was due to temporary anger or a genuine unwillingness to be with her.
Jiang Mengyu should like her, right?
Chi Jingyan reached out and tugged lightly at the metal chain dangling from Jiang Mengyu’s wrist. She had locked Jiang Mengyu up out of fear that she might escape while she was asleep at night.
But the chain was long enough that Jiang Mengyu could easily push her away if she truly didn’t want this.
Yet Jiang Mengyu didn’t do so.
Even last night, when Chi Jingyan had pinned Jiang Mengyu down to kiss her, Jiang Mengyu, though weak, could have lifted a hand to push her away. But she remained completely still the entire time, only turning her head to avoid Chi Jingyan’s gaze.
If this wasn’t playing hard to get, then what was it?
Because of this, coupled with what she had seen on Jiang Mengyu’s phone that morning, Chi Jingyan was convinced Jiang Mengyu was pretending.
But now, the impatience and indifference on Jiang Mengyu’s face seemed so genuine, with no trace of acting.
This made Chi Jingyan’s emotions swing wildly, one moment certain Jiang Mengyu liked her, the next filled with doubt.
For the first time, she experienced this torment of uncertainty, as if a scale in her heart kept tilting left and right.
Chi Jingyan was nearly driven mad by it.
Ignoring Jiang Mengyu’s faint resistance, she left a love bite on Jiang Mengyu’s chin. Staring at that vivid red mark, she felt a delusional sense of ownership, as if Jiang Mengyu had been branded hers.
No matter what, at least Jiang Mengyu was right in front of her now. That was enough.
Chi Jingyan finally felt satisfied.
“I won’t let you go,” she murmured, pressing her lips together. “But you can make one request.”
Her words carried a hint of testing.
She wanted to know what Jiang Mengyu would ask for.
Hearing this, Jiang Mengyu finally deigned to glance at her. Her expression was cold, her voice devoid of any emotion.
“Get out.”
Chi Jingyan had expected this, but it didn’t stop the sharp pang of disappointment that shot through her.
“No,” Chi Jingyan shook her head.
Not being able to see Jiang Mengyu would drive her insane.
After a brief pause, Jiang Mengyu added, “Then stop touching me.”
Was she really this resistant to her now?
Chi Jingyan clenched her fists and rejected the request again. “No.”
Jiang Mengyu scoffed and fell silent.
Chi Jingyan’s voice was soft. “Back then, when I told you not to touch me, you didn’t listen either.”
Her tone was strained.
Jiang Mengyu’s gaze swept over Chi Jingyan’s face, the frost in her eyes enough to freeze her to the bone.
Somehow, Chi Jingyan understood her meaning.
Jiang Mengyu might not have listened before, but Chi Jingyan had always disciplined her afterward.
Did Jiang Mengyu want to retaliate now?
Chi Jingyan parted her lips, but before she could speak, Jiang Mengyu cut in first:
“Bring me my homework every day.”
Chi Jingyan froze, wondering if she’d misheard. “What?”
“That’s not allowed either?” Jiang Mengyu frowned.
Chi Jingyan stared at her intently, but Jiang Mengyu’s expression was serious, not at all like she was joking.
“Fine,” Chi Jingyan finally agreed.
It wasn’t a big deal, she could just send someone to fetch it from school daily.
As long as Jiang Mengyu didn’t reject her again, that would be enough.
As for whether Jiang Mengyu wanted to use this opportunity to contact the outside world…
Chi Jingyan wouldn’t give her that chance.
Jiang Mengyu had taken leave again.
Chen He’an thought of Chi Jingyan, who had also taken leave, and for some reason, she felt certain that Jiang Mengyu’s absence must be related to Chi Jingyan.
But even on leave, this person still didn’t forget to do her homework, how diligent.
Chen He’an felt motivated.
Chu Muyao, however, wasn’t as reassured.
She knew Chi Jingyan had been in a terrible mood lately. Yesterday after school, Chu Muyao seemed to have seen Chi Jingyan’s bodyguard, Zhou Heng, if she remembered correctly following Jiang Mengyu.
Jiang Mengyu must have been taken away by Chi Jingyan.
Would they end up arguing again?
