- Chapter 21.2 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Who Secretly Loves the Female Lead Omega (18)
Jiang Mengyu hadn’t realized she’d bitten so hard.
She admitted she had lost control earlier. The moment the pheromones took over, all she wanted was to mark the person before her, and her bite had unknowingly become too forceful.
Chi Jingyan’s once smooth neck now bore a clear bite mark, with traces of blood lingering beside it. Jiang Mengyu remembered the gland had been flat before, but now it was slightly swollen, as if inflamed.
“Ah Yan,” Jiang Mengyu asked softly, “Are you okay?”
Chi Jingyan was not okay.
The surging heat within her had subsided, but her strength hadn’t returned. She felt like a sponge soaked in water lethargic and unwilling to move, her mind foggy.
Despite this, Chi Jingyan mustered the strength to lift her arm and slap Jiang Mengyu.
Jiang Mengyu didn’t dodge.
Perhaps the room was too quiet, making the sharp sound of the slap especially pronounced. But with Chi Jingyan’s weakened state, the blow wasn’t heavy, and Jiang Mengyu barely felt it.
She gazed intently at the person atop her. The reddened corners of Chi Jingyan’s eyes remained, and she glared at Jiang Mengyu with unmistakable fury.
Jiang Mengyu remained expressionless. “Sorry.”
The apology carried little sincerity.
Chi Jingyan was furious. Even in her dazed state, she knew Jiang Mengyu had temporarily marked her.
Chi Jingyan had lived for eighteen years, and from the moment she differentiated into an SS-rank Alpha, she never imagined there would come a day when someone would dare to mark her.
How could Jiang Mengyu have the audacity?!
Rage and disbelief flooded Chi Jingyan’s mind as she looked down at the person beneath her. Unable to contain herself, she raised her hand and slapped Jiang Mengyu again.
This time, the force was much stronger than before, leaving faint finger marks on Jiang Mengyu’s face. Yet Jiang Mengyu didn’t move, only fixing her deep black eyes steadily on Chi Jingyan. “Feeling better now?”
Lunatic!
Chi Jingyan cursed inwardly. She wanted to punch Jiang Mengyu a few more times, but she was already too exhausted to muster any more anger.
Rubbing her temples, Chi Jingyan remained silent, trying to push herself up. But her legs betrayed her will, weak as noodles.
Jiang Mengyu simply watched.
Only after Chi Jingyan failed for the third time did she lower her lashes and reach out to steady Chi Jingyan’s waist.
Chi Jingyan trembled. Though her body lacked strength, it was unexpectedly sensitive.
Gritting her teeth, she glared at Jiang Mengyu warily. “What else do you want?!”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t answer. Instead, she wrapped an arm around Chi Jingyan’s back, tightened her grip, and stood up with her in her arms.
The sudden loss of control forced Chi Jingyan to cling to Jiang Mengyu’s shoulders, panic flashing across her face. “Jiang Mengyu!”
“Hmm, I’m here,” Jiang Mengyu replied casually.
Seeing Chi Jingyan’s resentful resistance, she added, “I’m taking you to the bed to sleep.”
The makeshift bed Jiang Mengyu had prepared wasn’t wide plenty of space for one, but cramped for two.
Chi Jingyan seemed to realize this too. She didn’t argue further, though her expression remained sour.
As Jiang Mengyu walked toward the bed, Chi Jingyan’s body slid downward with each step. Left with no choice, she wrapped her legs tightly around Jiang Mengyu’s waist.
Jiang Mengyu felt only a slight tightening around her waist, but the person clinging to her stayed silent. Glancing sideways, she saw Chi Jingyan glaring at her with burning hatred. The young mistress’s eyes were fierce, yet her face was flushed crimson, as if about to drip blood.
Jiang Mengyu didn’t comment. She bent down and placed Chi Jingyan on the bed, where the latter immediately cocooned herself in the blanket.
“Do you want some water?” Jiang Mengyu asked softly.
Chi Jingyan stared at her for a long moment before giving a tiny nod.
Jiang Mengyu guessed that during that silence, Chi Jingyan was probably plotting how to settle the score with her once she sobered up tomorrow.
Because even though the young mistress didn’t speak, her eyes revealed her thoughts all too clearly.
Jiang Mengyu remained expressionless. She went to the kitchen, fetched a new cup, and filled it halfway with warm water.
The room was still lit only by the dim nightlight. Closing the door behind her, Jiang Mengyu saw Chi Jingyan curled up under the covers, facing away. She called her name, but there was no response.
Approaching, Jiang Mengyu realized Chi Jingyan had already closed her eyes.
In just that short time, she had fallen asleep yet even in slumber, her brows remained tightly furrowed.
Jiang Mengyu set the cup down first, then reached out to touch Chi Jingyan’s forehead. It wasn’t as feverish as before.
She tucked Chi Jingyan in snugly under the covers before returning to her makeshift bed on the floor by the bedside. Unable to sleep either way, Jiang Mengyu simply released System No. 031 from its mute state.
Sure enough, the moment the mute was lifted, a familiar scream echoed through her mind.
Jiang Mengyu was already used to it. Even as the noise buzzed in her ears, her expression remained unfazed.
[Host!!]
No. 031’s voice nearly cracked, [You finally remembered to let me out! Thank you for not forgetting about me!!]
Even the system had learned sarcasm.
Jiang Mengyu hummed in acknowledgment. “You’re welcome.”
No. 031: […]
[Was that a compliment?!]
Two lines of tears appeared on No. 031’s electronic screen. [Host, can you please take the mission seriously?!]
Why was it that every time it thought the host was being somewhat obedient, she would always flip the script and prove it wrong?
Jiang Mengyu shot back, “Didn’t you say the bond between the main characters is unbreakable?”
“Besides, I only temporarily marked Chi Jingyan.”
So what was wrong with her actions?
No. 031: [But, but…]
But this was just too outrageous!
Since when did a cannon-fodder Alpha temporarily mark the female lead Alpha?!
If such a plot were written, readers would tear it to shreds in the comments!
No. 031 finally began to regret its choices. It shouldn’t have repeatedly emphasized the unshakable nature of the main couple’s relationship in an attempt to stop the host from messing around because instead of dissuading her, it had only fueled her madness!
Looking at Jiang Mengyu’s indifferent expression, No. 031 suddenly remembered that the host it had bound wasn’t some timid, obedient little flower, but a villain who charged headfirst into danger despite knowing the risks!
Telling a villain not to do something was practically the same as telling her to go ahead and do it!
No. 031 shed tears of regret.
It was terrified that the host’s reckless actions would lead to mission failure, resulting in punishment from the Main God. Fortunately, it hadn’t received any warnings yet.
No. 031 reminded Jiang Mengyu again: [Host, if this mission fails, you won’t get another chance to start over.]
“Mm.” Jiang Mengyu responded absentmindedly while opening the system’s mission panel.
The mission progress had already reached 10% the night she moved into this apartment. Jiang Mengyu glanced at it and noticed it had now risen to 15%.
She scrolled further down and saw a new line of data beneath the mission progress.
“Plot Corruption Value?”
She was certain this metric hadn’t been there before.
“System? What’s this?”
No. 031 explained: [When the current plot deviates from the original story to a certain extent, the Plot Corruption Value appears. The greater the deviation, the higher the value.]
Jiang Mengyu stared at the displayed 20%, a thoughtful glint in her eyes.
She had temporarily marked Chi Jingyan, and it only caused a 20% deviation?
Did that mean there was still an 80% chance Chi Jingyan would end up with Chu Muyao?
Seeing Jiang Mengyu fall silent, No. 031 thought she had finally taken its words to heart.
[Host, if the plot completely collapses, this world might cease to exist.]
Haven’t you experienced that before?
If she hadn’t acted swiftly at the last moment to detonate the bomb, the force of the plot might have killed her in the warehouse first, while Tang An and Xiao Chan would have been safely rescued.
Jiang Mengyu clearly recalled some unpleasant memories as well. The expression on her face faded. “I understand.”
System No. 031 found this scene oddly familiar. It seemed this wasn’t the first time the host had made such a promise, yet she had never truly taken it to heart.
This system was seriously worried to death.
…
Chi Jingyan slept deeply.
Even after waking up, she was still disoriented about the time.
The curtains in the room blocked out the light perfectly, and even the small bedside lamp had been turned off. Chi Jingyan reached out and fumbled around, finding a phone on the nightstand. When she turned it on, she realized it was already almost 10 a.m.
The wallpaper on the phone’s home screen was unfamiliar. It took Chi Jingyan a moment to realize this was Jiang Mengyu’s phone.
Right.
She had slept in Jiang Mengyu’s room last night.
Chi Jingyan exhaled softly. As her body gradually recovered, she suddenly felt a sharp pain at the back of her neck, as if something was pressed there, continuously stimulating her nerves.
Confused, she frowned and reached back to touch her neck then froze in place.
What was this…?
Jiang Mengyu was in the kitchen, cooking porridge. In her mind, System No. 031 was enthusiastically broadcasting Chi Jingyan’s real-time movements.
[Chi Jingyan is awake.]
[She checked the time.]
[She noticed something’s wrong.]
[…]
Jiang Mengyu’s expression remained unchanged as she stirred the porridge in the pot. Secretary Zhao had delivered groceries yesterday, so today’s porridge wasn’t plain, she had added minced meat and greens.
The aroma of food filled the kitchen.
Whether due to a lag or something else, System No. 031 fell silent for a while. It wasn’t until Jiang Mengyu ladled the porridge into a bowl that it suddenly spoke again:
[She’s coming.]
She didn’t need the system to tell her.
