- Chapter 18 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Secretly in Love with the Female Lead Omega (15)
“I won’t be someone else’s substitute.”
Professor Chen paused before persuading, “Don’t you want to know if she really is an Enigma?”
What he really wanted to say was that perhaps Chi Jingyan herself hadn’t realized it yet, but she was already beginning to develop a sense of possessiveness toward Jiang Mengyu.
This was a common reaction between Alphas and Omegas after their pheromones became entangled perhaps the same applied between Enigmas and Alphas.
Professor Chen tactfully added, “What if you really are being influenced by her pheromones…”
Hearing this, Chi Jingyan’s mind immediately conjured up more vivid images like the scene of her gripping Jiang Mengyu’s collar and pinning her against the wall.
Shaking her head, Chi Jingyan forcibly suppressed those chaotic thoughts and made a firm decision. “I’ll take her there now for a thorough physical examination.”
If there really was a problem, she had already spent the entire night with Jiang Mengyu, thoroughly drenched in the other’s pheromones. By now, she was probably already affected.
At this thought, Chi Jingyan couldn’t help but lower her head to sniff her wrist. Even though she had already showered, she still felt as if Jiang Mengyu’s scent lingered on her skin.
Realizing what she had just done, Chi Jingyan immediately dropped her hand. She hastily ended the conversation with Professor Chen and sat in the study, lost in thought for a long while before finally calling Secretary Zhao again.
Jiang Mengyu was cooking in the kitchen.
Earlier, she had checked the fridge and found only a few ingredients. She decided to make plain congee and fry two eggs.
As she stirred the pot of rice porridge with a spoon, faint footsteps sounded softly behind her. Without turning around, Jiang Mengyu casually turned off the heat and ladled a small bowl of porridge into a ceramic bowl.
Chi Jingyan didn’t make a sound to disturb her. For once, she observed Jiang Mengyu without much negativity in her gaze.
The woman stood with her back turned, her long brown hair loosely cascading down her back. Further down, her waist curved into a slender and graceful silhouette, while her legs beneath the silk nightgown were smooth and porcelain-white, exuding an inexplicable air of gentle harmlessness.
Yet Chi Jingyan knew this was all an illusion, Jiang Mengyu was anything but gentle or harmless.
But setting aside the obsessive side of Jiang Mengyu’s personality, her outward appearance was indeed flawless. If not for the countless conflicts between them, Chi Jingyan might have even admired her.
Thinking back to Professor Chen’s words, Chi Jingyan took a deep breath.
Soon, Jiang Mengyu turned around with the bowl in hand. Seeing Chi Jingyan standing at the kitchen doorway, she showed no surprise.
“I made some congee. Have some.”
Chi Jingyan wasn’t feeling well, so she could only eat light foods these days.
Studying Jiang Mengyu’s expression, Chi Jingyan suddenly spoke as the other woman passed by her. “I had Secretary Chen send over some clothes.”
“For me?” Jiang Mengyu glanced at her again.
Chi Jingyan pressed her lips together. “Who else?”
Jiang Mengyu turned to meet Chi Jingyan’s gaze for a few seconds. She noticed that traces of exhaustion still lingered in the depths of Chi Jingyan’s eyes. Chi Jingyan wasn’t wearing a suppressant patch though her pheromones were no longer leaking uncontrollably, a faint scent of alcohol still clung to her.
“Thank you,” Jiang Mengyu said calmly.
Chi Jingyan’s mood was growing irritable again. Whether it was due to the influence of her sensitive period or not, her emotions had become highly volatile. Yet, she restrained herself, pulling another bank card from her pocket and handing it to Jiang Mengyu.
“Didn’t you say you were broke?”
Chi Jingyan pressed the card onto the table and slid it toward Jiang Mengyu’s hand. “Don’t say I’m not generous enough.”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t take it. She simply watched Chi Jingyan quietly, letting out a soft hum from her nose after a long pause. “Hmm.”
Chi Jingyan frowned. “Jiang Mengyu.”
“Are you still angry about what happened earlier?”
Chi Jingyan turned her face away, her voice low, a hint of discomfort flickering across her expression. “I admit, I shouldn’t have said that to you.”
But she had already taken the initiative to make amends, what more did Jiang Mengyu want?
Jiang Mengyu could tell Chi Jingyan was trying to placate her. She observed Chi Jingyan discreetly, watching as the other woman’s expression grew increasingly strained. Just as Chi Jingyan was about to lose her temper again in frustration, Jiang Mengyu suddenly reached out and pressed her hand over Chi Jingyan’s, trapping the bank card beneath her palm.
Chi Jingyan startled. “What are you doing?!”
She immediately tried to pull away, but Jiang Mengyu easily suppressed all her struggles. Chi Jingyan took a step back, her lower back hitting the edge of the dining table, forcing her to lean slightly backward. She felt completely enveloped by Jiang Mengyu and her pheromones.
The faint, delicate scent of jasmine wasn’t overpowering, yet it made Chi Jingyan’s breathing quicken.
Jiang Mengyu’s long hair brushed against her collarbone, sending a shiver down Chi Jingyan’s spine. Before her eyes was Jiang Mengyu’s exposed neck and shoulders, the skin below so pale it was almost dazzling, the soft curves faintly visible.
Chi Jingyan couldn’t bear to look any further. With no other choice, she raised her gaze to meet Jiang Mengyu’s eyes, half-embarrassed, half-furious. “What’s gotten into you now?”
Her expression was stormy, but her tone sounded almost resigned.
Jiang Mengyu’s breath lingered at the tip of Chi Jingyan’s nose, making it hard for her to breathe.
Jiang Mengyu didn’t release her grip. Instead, she stared straight into Chi Jingyan’s eyes, refusing to let her evade even slightly. “A-Yan.”
“The reason I’m willing to submit to you is that I love you.”
“You can think of me as anything a dog, a toy for you to vent on, it doesn’t matter. But there’s one thing…”
She reached up to tuck a stray lock of hair behind Chi Jingyan’s ear, her touch unbearably gentle, yet her voice carried an edge of ruthlessness. “Don’t mistake me for someone else. It would hurt me, A-Yan.”
A warning bell rang sharply in Chi Jingyan’s mind. She felt Jiang Mengyu’s fingertips hovering near the side of her neck just a little further back, and they would graze that sensitive gland.
Chi Jingyan tensed, locking eyes with Jiang Mengyu. In that moment, she realized with absolute clarity that no matter how obedient Jiang Mengyu had been before, the madness in her bones had never truly changed.
All that docility had merely been a ruse to lull Chi Jingyan into complacency. At her core, Jiang Mengyu was still a mad dog, just one who had learned to disguise herself well.
Chi Jingyan should have been wary. Yet, alongside that caution, an unwillingness to concede surged within her. No matter how unhinged Jiang Mengyu was, didn’t she still have to obey her in the end?
Chi Jingyan was confident she could tame Jiang Mengyu.
She tilted her head, lowering herself for once to explain, “I didn’t mistake you for someone else.”
She wasn’t blind. Even though she couldn’t clearly remember last night’s events, Chi Jingyan was absolutely certain she hadn’t confused Jiang Mengyu with anyone else.
Besides, Chu Muyao was much more obedient than Jiang Mengyu.
How could this cold, aloof Alpha compare to a soft and adorable Omega?
Jiang Mengyu seemed to let out a faint chuckle, but Chi Jingyan didn’t quite catch it. When she turned her head again, she found Jiang Mengyu staring fixedly at her, her gaze lingering unmistakably on…
Chi Jingyan forcefully pulled her hand free, her expression icy though a faint blush colored her cheeks. “Whatever you’re thinking, keep those improper thoughts to yourself!”
“Understood.” Jiang Mengyu paused, then leisurely added, “Master.”
Chi Jingyan gritted her teeth. “And don’t call me that!”
Was she really not embarrassed at all?
The corner of Jiang Mengyu’s lips curled upward, and this time, Chi Jingyan saw it clearly. For some reason, as she noticed the charming little mole beneath Jiang Mengyu’s eye, her heart felt strangely unsettled.
“Have some warm porridge to soothe your stomach,” Jiang Mengyu said, pulling out a chair for her.
Chi Jingyan snorted but didn’t refuse. Though she remained silent, her expression softened noticeably.
The tension between them had eased somewhat.
After breakfast, Chi Jingyan prepared to take Jiang Mengyu to the research institute.
Just before leaving, as Chi Jingyan was about to apply a scent-blocking patch to her gland, a hand suddenly reached from behind and took it from her.
“Let me.”
Jiang Mengyu stood behind Chi Jingyan, half a head taller. Their reflections in the mirror both with striking looks and figures, somehow seemed oddly well-matched.
Chi Jingyan parted her lips to refuse, but Jiang Mengyu had already swept aside her long hair and pressed the white patch onto the back of her neck.
In the mirror, Jiang Mengyu’s expression was unusually focused, her slightly lowered eyes carrying a trace of tenderness.
Chi Jingyan suddenly realized that moments of such peace and quiet between her and Jiang Mengyu were rare.
Looking at Jiang Mengyu like this, Chi Jingyan decided to temporarily forgive her audacity. After all, Jiang Mengyu did all this only because she was infatuated with her. Moreover, Jiang Mengyu’s pheromones intrigued her greatly.
Chi Jingyan thought she could afford to be a little more patient with Jiang Mengyu.
As long as Jiang Mengyu would always obey her and never betray her.
