A Dog Should Obey Without Question
Upon hearing this address, Secretary Zhao’s eyes flickered with a subtle change.
Master?
Was the young lady playing some kind of, interesting game?
Chi Jingyan hadn’t expected Jiang Mengyu to actually dare call her that in front of outsiders. Her expression stiffened before she shot Jiang Mengyu a fierce glare, her voice low and threatening. “Shut up!”
There was a distinct hint of flustered anger in her tone.
Jiang Mengyu remained unfazed. “Alright, I’ll listen to you, Master!”
“Jiang Mengyu!” Chi Jingyan anticipated what she was about to say and cut her off sharply. “Do you have a death wish?”
Jiang Mengyu paused briefly. “You still haven’t answered me.”
Chi Jingyan sneered. “So you’re afraid of death after all.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt something was off. Jiang Mengyu shouldn’t know what Professor Chen was capable of, what was she so afraid of?
Chi Jingyan studied Jiang Mengyu suspiciously for several seconds before finally withdrawing her gaze and turning to Secretary Zhao. “Let’s go.”
Before everything was fully investigated, she had no intention of letting the news of her being drugged spread. So, she had only instructed Secretary Zhao to contact Professor Chen in advance, asking him to send a couple of people over to examine her and determine what kind of drug she had been given.
For him to come personally so late at night, it seemed Professor Chen was truly very interested in Jiang Mengyu.
Chi Jingyan’s expression was cold. Whatever their relationship had been before, at the very least now, Jiang Mengyu had declared she would be her dog. How could she possibly hand her own dog over to someone else for experiments?
That idiot Jiang Mengyu didn’t even stop to think was Chi Jingyan the kind of person who would do such a thing?
Her face was icy, her very silhouette exuding arrogance as she strode ahead into the house, her steps seemingly steady and reliable, if not for the faint trembling in her legs.
Jiang Mengyu followed silently behind Chi Jingyan. The moment she stepped inside, she felt an intense gaze fixed upon her. Without any visible reaction, she glanced over and locked eyes with an elderly man seated on the sofa.
The man was staring at her with fervent excitement. Before Chi Jingyan could even speak, he immediately stood and walked toward Jiang Mengyu.
Jiang Mengyu shifted slightly, moving closer behind Chi Jingyan.
Her submissive stance inexplicably pleased Chi Jingyan. Blocking Jiang Mengyu from view, she said coolly, “Professor Chen, thank you for coming all this way so late.”
Only then did Professor Chen reluctantly snap out of his daze. Taking in Chi Jingyan’s frosty expression, he chuckled. “No trouble at all. Hearing that something happened to you, how could I possibly sit still?”
He turned and gave his assistant a meaningful look. The assistant quickly stepped forward. “Miss Chi, we’ll need to draw some blood first.”
Chi Jingyan gave a faint hum of acknowledgment and sat down on the sofa. Jiang Mengyu and Secretary Zhao stood on either side of her, watching as the assistant prepared to draw blood.
Professor Chen couldn’t care less about Chi Jingyan, he was here for Jiang Mengyu. Unable to stay quiet for long, he eagerly spoke up again. “Miss Chi, is this the SS-rank Alpha with the unusual pheromones you mentioned before?”
There wasn’t a shred of tact in his words, leaving everyone present in awkward silence.
Chi Jingyan instinctively turned her gaze toward Jiang Mengyu, only to find Jiang Mengyu staring intently back at her. Jiang’s expression was calm and unreadable, as if Professor Chen’s words hadn’t affected her at all.
Chi Jingyan lowered her eyes and responded with a quiet, “Hmm.”
Professor Chen detected the displeasure in her tone. He knew Chi Jingyan was protective of Jiang Mengyu, but Jiang’s unique pheromones were too enticing for him to ignore. Even though he sensed Chi Jingyan’s irritation, he wasn’t ready to give up on his plans.
If Chi Jingyan wouldn’t let him take Jiang Mengyu to the lab for a thorough examination, surely she wouldn’t object to him drawing a couple of blood samples for testing, right?
Chi Jingyan agreed.
First, she was also curious about the nature of Jiang Mengyu’s uniqueness. Second, she understood Professor Chen well after all, she herself had once undergone his examinations.
If even she had complied, why shouldn’t Jiang Mengyu?
Without bothering to ask Jiang Mengyu’s opinion, she merely tilted her chin slightly, signaling for her to cooperate with the professor.
This time, Professor Chen didn’t delegate the task to an assistant. He picked up the syringe himself.
Jiang Mengyu cast a deep glance at Chi Jingyan, who was now reclining on the sofa with her eyes half-lidded, her expression cold and detached, not sparing Jiang Mengyu so much as a second glance.
Jiang Mengyu scoffed inwardly. She wasn’t disappointed, nor did she feel hurt, she had long known exactly what kind of person Chi Jingyan was.
Her earlier protection hadn’t stemmed from concern for Jiang Mengyu’s well-being. Chi Jingyan simply disliked having her authority challenged. Professor Chen had come without her permission, and that was why she was displeased.
Perhaps, in Chi Jingyan’s mind, Jiang Mengyu truly was no different from a dog.
A dog should obey its master without question, what right did it have to its own thoughts?
Jiang Mengyu knelt on one knee and rolled up her sleeve for Professor Chen, who carefully inserted the needle into her vein.
It didn’t hurt much.
Jiang Mengyu watched indifferently as her blood filled the first vial, then a second.
The room fell into silence.
Chi Jingyan lifted her gaze to Jiang Mengyu, her emotions unreadable.
She had expected Jiang Mengyu to refuse.
Hadn’t Jiang Mengyu been so wary just moments ago at the door?
Chi Jingyan had even prepared counterarguments in case Jiang Mengyu resisted. Yet, to her surprise, Jiang Mengyu hadn’t uttered a single word of protest.
Had she stopped being afraid?
Chi Jingyan should have been pleased after all, she had always wanted Jiang Mengyu’s obedience. But now that it was happening, she felt an odd sense of unease.
Frowning, she glanced at Jiang Mengyu for a few seconds before looking away again. Why should she care what Jiang Mengyu was thinking?
Once the blood was drawn, Professor Chen, observing the tense silence between the two, ventured cautiously, “Miss Chi, I’d also like to collect a sample of her pheromones while we’re at it.”
Before Chi Jingyan could respond, Jiang Mengyu had already tugged at her collar, exposing the scent gland at the nape of her neck.
“Go ahead,” she murmured softly.
Chi Jingyan’s brows furrowed. “You!”
She had only agreed to the blood draw, not the pheromone extraction. What was Jiang Mengyu doing?
Was she deliberately defying her?
Chi Jingyan let out a cold laugh. Noticing Professor Chen watching her with barely concealed excitement, she couldn’t help but part her thin lips slightly and say, “The person in question has already agreed. Why are you still looking at me?”
Professor Chen was overjoyed. He quickly switched to a new syringe setup and strode over to stand behind Jiang Mengyu.
Jiang Mengyu had never had her pheromones collected before. It wasn’t until the needle pierced her gland that she realized this was far more painful than drawing blood.
The back of her neck felt as if it had been stabbed by a sharp blade, the intense pain instantly shooting to her brain. Jiang Mengyu pressed her lips together tightly, but the sudden hitch in her breathing still reached Chi Jingyan’s ears with perfect clarity.
Watching Jiang Mengyu’s slightly pale face, Chi Jingyan didn’t feel the slightest satisfaction. Instead, an inexplicable restlessness churned inside her.
Idiot. Who told her to agree so quickly?
Regretting it now, aren’t you?
Once the pheromone collection was complete, Professor Chen was finally satisfied. Carefully storing the sample, he wasted no time on further chatter and quickly left with his two assistants in tow.
Jiang Mengyu stood up, the lingering sting of the needle still present at the back of her neck, but her expression had already returned to calm. She turned slightly toward Chi Jingyan and raised a hand to fasten her collar.
At that moment, Chi Jingyan, who had been silent for a long while, suddenly let out a cold snort and asked, “Did it hurt?”
The young mistress rarely showed any concern for Jiang Mengyu, but after all, the latter had just helped her out. Though some of Jiang Mengyu’s actions had indeed irritated her, given how obedient she was, Chi Jingyan wasn’t above offering a small kindness.
Jiang Mengyu’s voice was soft. “It didn’t hurt.”
Hearing this, Chi Jingyan’s mood soured again. She narrowed her eyes. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Before Jiang Mengyu could respond, Chi Jingyan sneered, “Are you mad at me?”
What right did Jiang Mengyu have to be angry?
Jiang Mengyu shook her head. “I’m not.”
After speaking, she fell silent once more.
Chi Jingyan had always thought Jiang Mengyu’s words were infuriating, but it turned out her silence could be just as aggravating. This woman was clearly here to torment her!
“Then what’s with this attitude?” Chi Jingyan’s expression tightened, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes. “You were the one who agreed just now.”
Jiang Mengyu listened quietly, then after a long pause, she lowered her gaze slightly and asked, “If I had said no, would you have stopped him?”
She never had the right to refuse in the first place.
So, what difference did it make whether she agreed or not?
Chi Jingyan was left speechless.
