- Chapter 12 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Who Secretly Loves the Female Lead Omega (9)
“Is this how you speak to your master?”
Though she addressed her as “master,” her tone carried no real respect. Instead, it held an indescribable nuance.
Chi Jingyan had intended to humiliate Jiang Mengyu, but the exchange ended up feeling more like playful flirtation. Pressing her lips together, she snapped, “Get away from me. Now.”
Having just vowed to obey, Jiang Mengyu naturally complied, stepping back to watch as Chi Jingyan straightened up and pulled out her phone from her coat pocket.
“Are you leaving?” Jiang Mengyu asked.
Chi Jingyan had lost all interest in lingering. Ignoring the question, she messaged her bodyguard before rubbing her temples wearily.
Her priority now was figuring out what drug had been slipped into her system. Chi Jingyan doubted Chi Jia would dare poison her, it was far more likely to be some low-grade aphrodisiac. Considering the Alpha Chi Jia had arranged, Chi Jingyan could guess her cousin’s plan.
She simply wanted to disgrace her, preferably by sparking a scandal involving an Alpha, enough to disappoint their grandfather.
The old man didn’t despise villains, he just had no patience for fools.
In a way, Jiang Mengyu had indeed helped her.
Yet Chi Jingyan narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “How did you know?”
The urgency of the situation had kept her from dwelling on it earlier, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t curious.
“I guessed,” Jiang Mengyu replied smoothly, her expression giving nothing away. “Your cousin kept glancing at me when she arrived clearly, she recognized me.”
“I checked with colleagues downstairs. She came with Third Young Master Zhou.”
This Zhou heir was something of a notorious figure in their circles.
Though only a B-grade Alpha, he was the spoiled only son of his family, raised to be reckless and overbearing.
The original story mentioned his unrequited crush on Chu Muyao. Unable to win her affection, he’d taken some dubious friend’s advice and tried drugging her, only for Chi Jia to redirect the plot, making Chi Jingyan the one who drank it.
Jiang Mengyu suspected that “friend” had been planted by Chi Jia all along.
Chi Jingyan’s skepticism remained.
Was that really enough for Jiang Mengyu to deduce she’d been drugged?
Jiang Mengyu’s gaze darkened. “Do you have any idea how strong your pheromones were when you left that private room?”
Thankfully, the leakage hadn’t been severe.
An Alpha’s pheromones could easily trigger an Omega’s heat, let alone those of a high-grade Alpha like Chi Jingyan. Had her scent fully escaped, every Omega in the bar would have been thrown into simultaneous frenzies. The consequences would have been unthinkable.
“As for how you fell for it.” Jiang Mengyu’s tone turned mocking.
“You’d only lower your guard for something handed to you by Chu Muyao, wouldn’t you?”
Chi Jingyan’s face darkened in silence.
“Where’s your scent suppressant patch?” Jiang Mengyu asked again.
Chi Jingyan irritably ran a hand through her hair. “Forgot.”
She’d been a bit tipsy at the time, how could she remember where the patch had fallen off?
Jiang Mengyu didn’t reply, just stared at her silently.
Chi Jingyan knew she was in the wrong, but she wasn’t about to back down. Besides, what right did Jiang Mengyu have to lecture her?
At that thought, Chi Jingyan lifted her gaze and swept a glance at Jiang Mengyu, countering, “Is this how you speak to your owner?”
Jiang Mengyu averted her eyes without a word.
Chi Jingyan scoffed. She studied Jiang Mengyu for a long moment, her gaze drifting over the other woman’s face before finally settling on the uniform she wore.
“You’re coming with me later,” she declared.
“I still have work,” Jiang Mengyu murmured.
“Quit.” Chi Jingyan’s tone was domineering, leaving no room for refusal.
Jiang Mengyu was blunt, making no attempt to hide the truth.
“I don’t have the money.”
Chi Jingyan’s brow furrowed again. She couldn’t stand Jiang Mengyu’s stingy attitude, did she really think Chi Jingyan would let her starve?
“You think I just let my dogs roam free?” Chi Jingyan sneered. “Anyone who belongs to Chi Jingyan doesn’t serve others.”
Jiang Mengyu seemed thoughtful. “You said, I belong to you?”
Chi Jingyan: “…”
Chi Jingyan’s expression remained blank. “You’re my dog.”
She must have been out of her mind to waste time arguing over such meaningless nonsense.
Chi Jingyan’s bodyguards arrived quickly.
When the private room door was knocked on, Chi Jingyan was resting with her eyes closed, while Jiang Mengyu sat on the opposite sofa.
She wasn’t on her phone instead, her gaze was fixed intently on Chi Jingyan.
Chi Jingyan could feel those eyes lingering on her for a long time. It made her uncomfortable, but she couldn’t bring herself to tell Jiang Mengyu to stop looking, so she tilted her head slightly, pretending not to notice.
At the sound of the knock, Chi Jingyan opened her eyes and jerked her chin at Jiang Mengyu. “Open the door.”
She realized there were benefits to making Jiang Mengyu hers at the very least, she could boss her around without hesitation, and Jiang Mengyu had no right to refuse.
Jiang Mengyu stood and went to pull open the door. Outside stood several suited Alphas. The leader glanced at Jiang Mengyu before his gaze quickly shifted past her to Chi Jingyan behind her.
“Young Mistress,” he greeted respectfully.
“Enough.” Chi Jingyan waved a hand. Her expression was grim, though she held back her temper. “Leave two to come with me. The rest keep a close eye on everyone in this room tonight!”
“Yes.”
Chi Jingyan stood up. Jiang Mengyu noticed her body sway slightly, but she quickly steadied herself.
She probably hadn’t fully recovered her strength yet.
Jiang Mengyu moved to support her but was met with a warning glare from Chi Jingyan.
With a silent click of her tongue, Jiang Mengyu gave up and simply watched as Chi Jingyan stubbornly forced her way out of the bar.
The bodyguards escorted Chi Jingyan into the car.
Once seated, Chi Jingyan glanced back at Jiang Mengyu, who was still standing dumbly by the door. Impatient, she snapped, “Get the hell in already!”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t expect the young mistress to still allow her to sit in the back seat. She bent down and got into the car, her collar slightly open, inadvertently releasing a faint trace of jasmine fragrance.
It must have accidentally gotten on her clothes earlier.
Chi Jingyan caught a whiff of the scent, and her barely calmed heartbeat began to race again.
She quickly rolled down the window, letting the cold wind blow against her cheeks to maintain her clarity.
Truly an ill-mannered, low-class Alpha doesn’t she know how to control her pheromones?
Chi Jingyan thought resentfully. Jiang Mengyu must be doing this on purpose!
This time, Jiang Mengyu really wasn’t doing it intentionally.
Seeing how Chi Jingyan avoided her like the plague, she had no intention of teasing her right now. Instead, she simply mimicked Chi Jingyan, closing her eyes to rest.
In her mind, System No. 031 was loudly condemning Jiang Mengyu’s actions.
[Host!]
No. 031 was angry, with a hint of grievance. [How could you mute me again!]
Jiang Mengyu remained like a silent husband, no matter how much No. 031 complained, she didn’t say a word.
In the end, No. 031 had no choice but to relent.
[Host.] No. 031 spoke earnestly, [I must remind you again, the fate between the protagonists cannot be easily severed. Even if you’ve altered the plot this time, Chi Jingyan will eventually fall in love with Chu Muyao.]
“So why are you panicking?” Jiang Mengyu replied indifferently. “Since the ending won’t change, does the process really matter?”
No. 031 was left speechless.
That was true, but why did it always have this ominous premonition?
Would the host really not mess up the mission?
Chi Jingyan was utterly unsettled by Jiang Mengyu’s pheromones.
The suppressants from the bar were clearly ineffective her throat was itching again, and that familiar, unbearable heat was creeping back, making her limbs weak.
She wanted so badly to…
